Flat knitting machines and knitting methods

Abstract

The invention relates to a flat knitting machine and a method for knitting fabrics such that it is possible to make precise decisions about stitch density and such that the platinum ring is less likely to be pinched between the fixed platinum and the movable platinum. The flat knitting machine of the invention comprises a movable platinum and a ring-holding device. The movable platinum comprises a knitting yarn catching part and a first protrusion. The flat knitting machine comprises a rotating mechanism configured to rotate the movable platinum between the retraction and pressing positions. The leading end of the first protrusion in the retraction position overlaps with the knitting yarn extending from the hook to the fixed platinum when viewed longitudinally along the needle bed. When rotating the movable platinum from the retraction position to the pressing position, the rotating mechanism performs such rotation of the movable platinum that the leading end moves along the outer shape of the ring-holding device, and then rotates the movable platinum toward the pressing position.While the leading end moves along the outer shape, the first protrusion overlaps with the knitting yarn extending from the fixed platinum to the hook when viewed along the longitudinal direction of the needle bed.
