Steering column device

Abstract

The invention relates to a steering column device capable of avoiding collision between the operating lever and the instrument panel during rudder storage. The steering column is movable forward and backward between the extended and stored positions relative to the instrument panel. A lever unit is formed on the steering column containing the operating lever, and changes its position relative to the steering column between the active and inactive positions. The distance of the distal end position of the operating lever from the center of rotation of the rudder is shorter when the lever unit is in the inactive position than when the lever unit is in the active position. When the steering column moves from the extended to the stored position, the lever unit changes from the active to the inactive position to avoid collision between the operating lever and the instrument panel.
