Abstract

The invention relates to an aquatic feed preparation for juvenile eel Monopterus albus intended to improve growth, feed utilization efficiency, survival rate, and resistance to pathogenic bacteria. The preparation is in pellet or granular form, consisting of a base feed for juvenile eel and an extracellular polymer derived from Lactobacillus plantarum. The extracellular polymer is distributed, coated, or adhered to the surface or near-surface of the base feed, with a content of 6.0 g to 10.0 g per kg of base feed, preferably 7.5 g to 8.5 g / kg, and especially 8.0 g / kg, calculated on the weight of the dry extracellular polymer. The preparation does not require the maintenance of live Lactobacillus plantarum cells in the feed at the time of use. When used consistently for juvenile eels, the preparation helps to increase specific growth rate, reduce feed conversion ratio, improve survival rate, and enhance the protection of juvenile eels when challenged with Edwardsiella tarda bacteria.
