Abstract

The invention relates to a process for fabricating TiO2 nanoparticles of controllable size using a Ti(SO4)2 - H2O2 - NH3 reaction system comprising the following steps: preparation of Ti(SO4)2 from TiO2 by reaction with concentrated H2SO4, subsequent dissolution in water, addition of H2O2, controlled addition of NH3, centrifugation, washing, drying, and calcination at 400°C for 2 hours to obtain TiO2 particles. Particle size is primarily controlled through the concentration of the reaction solution: at medium concentrations, the TiO2 particles obtained are approximately 6-8 nm; at high concentrations, they are approximately 50-60 nm; and at very low concentrations, particle formation is more difficult to control. SEM, TEM, XRD, Raman, and absorption spectral results demonstrate the relationship between reaction conditions and particle size, and confirm that the material obtained is nano-sized TiO2, mainly anatase phase under preferred conditions.
