Abstract

The invention relates to a novel lactic acid bacteria strain, Lactobacillus crispatus AL3.1, isolated from the vaginal fluid of pregnant Vietnamese women. Strain AL3.1 has a 16S rRNA gene sequence of 1,000 bp in size, as shown in SEQ ID NO. 1, and is registered at GenBank under registration number PZ24997. Strain AL3.1 has a genome size of approximately 2.06 Mb, a GC ratio of 36.5%, and is registered at GenBank under registration number GCF 056682395.1. Strain AL3.1. It has the ability to survive at pH 3.0 and 3.5 with survival rates of 98.14% and 101.07% or higher, respectively; it has the ability to survive in simulated gastrointestinal environments including simulated gastric and pancreatic fluids with survival rates of 91.5% and 66.88% or higher, respectively; it has the ability to adhere to the HT-29 intestinal epithelial cell line and the HeLa cervical epithelial cell line with survival rates of 4.21% and 6.76% or higher, respectively; it has the ability to resist pathogenic microorganisms including Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecalis, Streptococcus agalactiae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Candida albicans and produces H2O2. With these characteristics, strain AL3.1 can be used to create next-generation probiotic preparations or live biological preparations to prevent and support the treatment of vaginitis in women.
