METHODS FOR DETECTING VIOLENCE IN SECURITY SURVEILLANCE VIDEOS

Abstract

The invention proposes a method for detecting violent behavior in security surveillance video comprising the following steps: (i) receiving and pre-processing video data, (ii) identifying candidate regions likely to experience violent behavior, (iii) refining candidate regions based on motion characteristics, (iv) identifying violent behavior based on spatio-temporal characteristics, and (v) alerting and recording the event. The method described in the invention focuses identification on candidate regions likely to experience violent behavior, reduces false alarms, reduces computational load, and improves identification accuracy in real-time processing.
