Abstract
The invention relates to a process for synthesizing a mixed oxide catalyst material IrSnOx / TiN, used for oxygen generation reactions in an acidic environment. The process includes the following steps: creating an intermediate material containing an Ir-Sn complex or precursor dispersed on TiN in an anaerobic environment, where the solvent is degassed ethylene glycol, the precursors IrCl3.xH2O, SnCl2.2H2O, citric acid, and TiN are mixed and dispersed under a stream of Ar gas, then the reaction system is deoxygenated by freeze-vacuum-thaw technique and reheated under a stream of Ar gas. The resulting intermediate material is thermally decomposed in an Ar gas environment to create the IrSnOx / TiN material. The resulting material contains the elements Ir, Sn, Ti, N, and O, has a low Ir content, and is capable of catalyzing oxygen generation reactions in an acidic environment.
