POWER CONVERTERS AND AIR CONDITIONERS

Abstract

The invention relates to a power converter that can reduce its size. The power converter (105) supplies power from an alternating current (AC) power source (102) to the compressor (21) of the air conditioner (1). Here, the air conditioner (1) includes several indoor units (4 and 5), and the outdoor unit (2) forms a cooling circuit with several indoor units (4 and 5). The air conditioner (1) can independently control the operation of several indoor units (4 and 5). This power converter (105) includes a rectifier circuit (110), a reverse converter circuit (130), and a capacitor (122). The rectifier circuit (110) rectifies the AC voltage of the AC power source (102). The reverse converter circuit (130) converts the rectified Vdc voltage (110) into a predetermined frequency AC voltage to supply the converted AU voltage to the motor (103) of the compressor (21). The capacitor (122) is placed between the rectifier circuit (110) and the reverse converter circuit (130). The capacitor (122) has a capacitance of 0.1 pF or greater.
