Abstract
The useful solution proposes a method for extracting benzophenanthridin alkaloid compounds with antifungal activity from the plant Argemone mexicana L. (Papaveraceae). The method according to the useful solution allows for the efficient isolation of pure benzophenanthridin alkaloid compounds including nitrotyrasanguinarinoside (1), dihydrosanguirarin (2), 6R-acetonyldihydrosanguirarin (3), dihydrochelerythrin (4) and 6Racetonyldihydrochelerythrin (5) from the dichloromethane fraction of the stem and leaves of Argemone mexicana. The isolated benzophenanthridin alkaloid compounds showed activity against plant pathogenic fungal strains Alternaria brassicicola, Cladosporium cucumerinum, Magaporthe oryzae and Phytophthora infestans. This useful solution contributes to creating a source of natural raw materials for research and development of plant disease control agents, while also guiding the effective exploitation and utilization of the medicinal plant *Gai cua* in Vietnam.
