[0007] Disclosure of the invention

[0008] Against this background, the approach presented here will

[0009] Coupling device for coupling to a cartridge for an analysis device for analyzing a sample contained in a cartridge, an analysis device and a method for operating an analysis device according to the main claims are presented. By means of the measures listed in the dependent claims, advantageous further developments and improvements of the device specified in the independent claim are possible.

[0010] The proposed approach can create a way to improve the contact between the manifold and the cartridge, and in particular, to achieve a plane-parallel contact between the sealing surface of the manifold and the cartridge surface. Furthermore, the proposed approach can additionally or alternatively enable the actuation of a clamping mechanism, for example, instead of previous electromechanical actuators or a pneumatic cylinder.

[0011] A coupling device for coupling to a cartridge for an analytical device is presented, which is designed to analyze a sample contained in the cartridge. For this purpose, the coupling device comprises a support element that can be arranged or is arranged in a fixed position relative to the analytical device, a coupling unit for coupling to the cartridge, wherein the coupling unit is arranged to be movable relative to the support element, and at least one pneumatically actuated pressure pad for moving the coupling unit relative to the support element. The pressure pad is arranged between the coupling unit and the support element, wherein the pressure pad is actuable to move the coupling unit toward the cartridge inserted into the analytical device.

[0012] The analysis device can be designed as a microfluidic analysis device, which can be used, for example, in the field of diagnostics. The coupling device can therefore be designed, for example, to couple components of the analysis device to the cartridge, but also, for example, to open at least one reagent bar contained in the cartridge. The cartridge can also be referred to, for example, as a microfluidic cartridge. The support element can, for example, be plate-shaped and optionally connected to the pressure pad. For example, the pressure pad can be inserted between the coupling unit and the support element or glued to at least one of them. Advantageously, the pressure pad can be bag-shaped. It can be designed, for example, to compensate for height differences or angle differences within the coupling device or to enable fine adjustment when coupling to the cartridge.Furthermore, the coupling unit can, for example, comprise a rod assembly or be connected to a rod assembly. For example, the coupling device can additionally have at least one further support element which can be arranged or is arranged in a stationary manner relative to the analysis device, wherein the coupling unit is arranged such that it can move relative to the further support element. In addition, the coupling device can have at least one further pneumatically actuated pressure pad for moving the coupling unit relative to the further support element, wherein the further pressure pad can be arranged between the coupling unit and the further support element. The further pressure pad can be actuated in order to move the coupling unit in the direction of the cartridge inserted into the analysis device. Optionally, the coupling device can additionally have a spring element for decoupling from the cartridge orMoving the coupling unit away from the cartridge and optionally additionally having at least one temperature control element. Alternatively, the spring element and additionally or alternatively the temperature control element can be designed as part of the analyzer.

[0013] According to one embodiment, the pressure pad can be polygonal, oval, toroidal, U-shaped, or adapted to a shape of the coupling device. This allows the pressure pad to be used in the analysis device according to the application, available installation space, and device model. This means that the coupling device can advantageously be used in a variety of ways.

[0014] Furthermore, the pressure pad can have a total volume of up to 130 ml, in particular 100 ml to 120 ml. The filling quantity of the pressure pad can improve its sealing function with respect to the cartridge. More specifically, leaks at an interface to the cartridge can be prevented by the pressure with which the pressure pad can contact the cartridge, which depends on the filling level of the pressure pad. Furthermore, the pressure pad can enable a compressed air storage function due to such a total volume.

[0015] The pressure cushion can also be designed as a compressed air reservoir that can be connected to a pressure supply unit of the analyzer. The storage function of the pressure cushion can advantageously shorten the operating time of the pressure supply unit, which can, for example, comprise at least one pump. This can advantageously reduce costs for a user, as the number of repair cases can be reduced. Furthermore, a shorter running time of the pumps during processing can reduce acoustic stress for the user, which is advantageous in terms of user-friendliness.

[0016] According to one embodiment, the support element can have at least one first guide feature. The coupling unit can have at least one second guide feature. The at least one first guide feature and the at least one second guide feature can be designed to cooperate to guide a movement of the coupling unit relative to the support element. The first or the second guide feature can be formed, for example, as a guide rod or as a rotary element. The respective other guide feature can accordingly be designed as a counterpart thereto, for example as a guide opening through which the guide rod or the rotary element can be guided. For example, the coupling device can have additional guide features or guide rods, which can advantageously be formed parallel to one another.Such an embodiment offers the advantage that a precise and reliable movement of the coupling unit can be made possible, whereby in particular canting of the same can be prevented.

[0017] Furthermore, the coupling unit can be designed as a movable plate that can be displaced relative to the support element. Advantageously, the coupling unit can be displaced smoothly as a movable plate. Displacement can be enabled by filling the pressure cushion with compressed air. For example, this can compensate for differences and tolerances during a coupling process and, additionally or alternatively, allow a plurality of components arranged on the coupling unit to be displaced smoothly.

[0018] The coupling unit can also be designed as a pivoting plate that can pivot relative to the support element. As a pivoting plate, the coupling unit can advantageously be rotated about a pivot point. Rotation can be enabled by filling the pressure cushion with compressed air. Advantageously, the coupling unit can also be moved smoothly as a pivoting plate.

[0019] According to one embodiment, the coupling unit can have at least one centering element for aligning a position of the coupling unit relative to the support element. The centering element can advantageously be designed in a pin-like manner and, for example, guided through an opening, so that lateral displacement of the coupling unit and thus an otherwise possible leak can be advantageously prevented.

[0020] Furthermore, the coupling unit can have at least one plunger for opening a reagent chamber of the cartridge. The plunger can advantageously be pin-shaped and thus shaped such that it can penetrate the reagent chamber, for example, to break through a protective film. The reagent chamber can be designed as part of a reagent bar inserted into the cartridge. This allows reagents for analyzing the sample to be released easily and reliably.

[0021] A distribution unit for establishing a fluidic connection between the analyzer and the cartridge can be arranged on the coupling unit. The distribution unit can, for example, have a plurality of connections through which compressed air can be transported to the cartridge for processing the sample contained in the cartridge. The distribution unit can, for example, be referred to as a manifold. Such an embodiment offers the advantage that the movement of the coupling unit also couples the distribution unit to the cartridge. This eliminates the need for separate movement of the distribution unit.

[0022] Furthermore, the coupling unit can have a through-opening for a distribution unit to establish a fluidic connection between the analyzer and the cartridge. The through-opening can, for example, be polygonal, so that the distribution unit can be guided through the through-opening. The through-opening can have a floor plan adapted to the floor plan of the distribution unit.

[0023] For example, this makes it easy to allow the distribution unit to pass through the coupling unit in order to couple the distribution unit to the cartridge.

[0024] According to one embodiment, the support element can be formed as at least one continuous plate or as at least one projection. The projection can also be formed, for example, as a geometric shoulder, which can advantageously function as a stop. This means that when the pressure pad is filled with compressed air, a counterpressure can be exerted on the pressure pad by the stop against the projection, thus enabling uniform docking with the cartridge.

[0025] An analysis device for analyzing a sample contained in a cartridge is also presented, wherein the analysis device has a coupling device in a previously mentioned variant, a distribution unit which has a plurality of pressure supply connections for coupling to a pressure supply unit on the device side and a plurality of cartridge connections for coupling to the cartridge on the cartridge side, wherein the pressure supply connections and the cartridge connections are fluidically connected to one another, and the pressure supply unit for applying compressed air to the at least one pressure cushion of the coupling device and the pressure supply connections of the distribution unit.

[0026] The analyzer can advantageously be used for microfluidic diagnostics, enabling timely sample results to be obtained. The coupling device can therefore be used for a so-called clamping process and, in addition to or as an alternative to attaching the distribution unit. The cartridge can advantageously be pressurized with compressed air through the connections of the distribution unit.

[0027] Furthermore, a method for operating an analysis device in a previously mentioned variant is presented, wherein the method comprises a step of applying compressed air to the at least one pressure cushion of the coupling device in order to move the coupling unit in the direction of the cartridge inserted into the analysis device, and a step of applying compressed air to the pressure supply connections of the distribution unit.

[0028] Advantageously, the method allows the analyzer to be coupled to the cartridge. This method can be implemented, for example, in software or hardware, or in a hybrid form of software and hardware, for example, in a control unit.

[0043] Before advantageous embodiments of the present invention are described below, the background and principles of embodiments will first be briefly explained.

[0044] Common analytical systems typically utilize a distribution unit, also known as a manifold. Its task is to provide two pressure levels to twenty parallel 3 / 2-way valves, after connecting two pressure supply lines. These valves, depending on their connection to geometrically defined output ports, individually supply the system with the desired pressure. The common valve bank is therefore designed as a compact component that is pressed against the cartridge in a defined manner during operation by spring force via axial guide elements, particularly recirculating ball bushings. The functions of the system's manifold can therefore be summarized as follows:

[0045] - Twenty individual port outlets are individually pressurized.

[0046] - It includes a receptacle for two pressure connections that are provided to the manifold by the system or pump unit.

[0047] - It enables a defined positional tolerance to be guaranteed during the clamping process relative to the cartridge.

[0048] Against this backdrop, the approach described below creates a compact solution within the analyzer, both in terms of the required installation space and in terms of additional seals that generate friction and power loss. This avoids jamming or stiff movement and simplifies guidance, allowing, for example, the distribution unit to be aligned with the sealing surface flush with the cartridge, thus preventing leaks. Leaks caused by tilting or bending can also be prevented with the approach presented here, as a resulting moment, such as a torsional moment and / or bending moment, is compensated.

[0049] In the following description of advantageous embodiments of the present invention, the same or similar reference numerals are used for the elements shown in the various figures and having a similar effect, whereby a repeated description of these elements is omitted.

[0050] Fig. 1 shows a schematic representation of an embodiment of an analysis device 100. The analysis device 100 is designed to analyze input samples, which allows, for example, PCR tests to be performed. For this purpose, a cartridge 105, for example, with a plastic housing and a microfluidic network for processing the sample, can be inserted into a receiving area 110 of the analysis device 100. According to one embodiment, the analysis device 100 optionally further comprises a display 115 with a touch function, by means of which settings for the desired analysis process can be manually entered, merely by way of example. Furthermore, the display 115 is designed merely by way of example to display analysis results.

[0051] The analysis device 100 further comprises a coupling device 120 for coupling to the cartridge 105 and a pressure supply unit 125 for supplying compressed air to at least one pressure pad of the coupling device 120 and a plurality of pressure supply connections of a distribution unit 130 when the cartridge 105 is inserted into the analysis device 100. The distribution unit 130 has the plurality of pressure supply connections for coupling to the pressure supply unit 125 on the device side and a plurality of cartridge connections for coupling to the cartridge 105 on the cartridge side, wherein the pressure supply connections and the cartridge connections are fluidically connected to one another. According to one embodiment, the distribution unit 130, which is designed to establish a fluidic connection between the analysis device and the cartridge 105, is arranged on a coupling unit of the coupling device 120.

[0052] Fig. 2 shows a schematic representation of an embodiment of a coupling device 120, as described, for example, in Fig. 1. The coupling device 120 is shown in Fig. 2 as an example in a rear view. The coupling device 120 has a support element 200, which can be arranged or is arranged in a fixed position relative to the analysis device. The support element 200 is implemented, for example, as a projection, also referred to as a geometric shoulder.

[0053] Furthermore, the coupling device 120 comprises a coupling unit 202 for coupling to the cartridge 105, wherein the coupling unit 202 is arranged to be movable relative to the support element 200, as well as at least one pneumatically actuated pressure pad 204 for moving the coupling unit 202 relative to the support element 200. The pressure pad 204 is arranged between the coupling unit and the support element 200 and can therefore be actuated to move the coupling unit 202 in the direction of the cartridge 105 inserted into the analysis device. The corresponding travel directions are illustrated in this embodiment by a double arrow 205. The projection or the support element 200 extends parallel to the coupling unit 202 and offset from the coupling unit 202 along a travel direction illustrated by the double arrow 205.

[0054] In particular, the pressure pad 204 is shaped, for example, to compensate for angular errors and thus to enable the coupling unit 202 to securely dock onto the cartridge 105 or to come into contact with it. For example, the pressure pad 204 is arranged on the support element 200 or on the coupling unit 202, for example, inserted or glued. Furthermore, the pressure pad 204 is shaped, for example, polygonal, oval, toroidal, U-shaped, or adapted to a shape of the coupling device 120. Furthermore, the pressure pad 204 optionally has a total volume of up to 130 ml, and in particular between 100 ml and 120 ml.The pressure cushion 204 can comprise, in particular, fiber-reinforced plastic, for example, nitrile rubber and / or other elastomers, and can, for example, comprise a body made of synthetic fiber coated on both sides with elastomer and a chamber made of unreinforced elastomer, which is also commercially available as a compressed air cushion or compressed air lifting cushion. In an alternative embodiment, as described below with reference to Fig. 11, the pressure cushion 204 is designed as a compressed air reservoir that is or can be connected to the pressure supply unit of the analysis device. Sealing nubs, for example, are arranged at a coupling point 207, at which the coupling device 120 can be coupled to the cartridge 105.

[0055] According to this exemplary embodiment, the coupling device 120 has at least one further support element 206 and a further pressure pad 208 for moving the coupling unit 202 in the direction of the cartridge 105. Here, too, the further pressure pad 208 is arranged between the coupling unit 202 and the further support element 206. Furthermore, the coupling device 120 according to the exemplary embodiment shown in Fig. 2 has additional support elements 210, 212 and additional pressure pads 214, 216. Furthermore, the coupling device 120 according to this exemplary embodiment has an additional coupling unit 218, which is arranged on a side of the distribution unit 130 facing away from the cartridge 105. Here, the additional pressure pad 214 is arranged between the additional support element 210 and the additional coupling unit 218. The additional pressure cushion 216 is arranged between the additional support element 212 and the additional coupling unit 218.According to this embodiment, the coupling unit 202 and the additional coupling unit 218 are plate-like and aligned parallel to each other.

[0056] Furthermore, the coupling device 120 according to this exemplary embodiment has at least two and in particular four guide sections 220. The guide sections 220 are designed to cooperate with the support elements 200, 206, 210, 212 to guide the movement of the coupling unit 202 and the additional coupling unit 218.

[0057] In other words, the coupling device 120 enables a lifting movement of the distribution unit 130 through the pressure pads 204, 208, 214, 216. In the same way, the guided distribution unit 130 is pressed sealingly against the cartridge 105. A major advantage is the uniform pressure distribution in the at least one pressure pad 204, which leads to the distribution unit 130 being in full contact with the cartridge 105. This can be achieved by a single pad or several, for example two or four pneumatically connected pressure pads 204, 208, 214, 216. Such pressure pads 204, 208, 214, 216 can be used, for example, wherever play needs to be compensated, angular errors compensated, or a uniform, flat and / or tight contact or pressure is to be achieved.

[0058] Fig. 3 shows a schematic top view of an embodiment of a coupling device 120, as described, for example, in at least one of Figures 1 to 2. Here, the coupling device 120 is illustrated such that the pressure pad 204 and the further pressure pad 208 are arranged on opposite sides of the distribution unit 130. Here, too, the coupling device 120 has a plurality of guide sections 220, two of which are arranged opposite one another. Furthermore, two of the guide sections 220 are arranged in the region of the pressure pads 204, 208, which in turn are each arranged on a support element 200, 206.

[0059] According to this exemplary embodiment, the cartridge connections 300 of the distribution unit 130, for example 20, are arranged between the support element 200 and the further support element 206. The distribution unit 130 is coupled or can be coupled to the cartridge on the cartridge side via the cartridge connections 300. Furthermore, the distribution unit 130 has a plurality of pressure supply connections 302 for coupling to a pressure supply unit on the device side. The pressure supply connections 302 and the cartridge connections 300 are fluidically connected to one another.

[0060] Fig. 4 shows a schematic representation of an embodiment of a coupling device 120, which is similar to the coupling device described in at least one of Figures 1 to 3. According to this embodiment, the coupling device 120 has two support elements 200, 206 and two pressure pads 204, 208 arranged thereon. Furthermore, the cartridge 105 is mounted at an angle in Fig. 4, so that in a rest position of the pressure pads 204, 208, an air gap 402 is formed between the contact device 120 and the cartridge. However, by applying compressed air to the pressure pads 204, 208, the air gap 402 can be bridged, as described, for example, with reference to Fig. 5. According to the same principle, a gap can be set by reducing the pressure in the pressure pad, or the connection between the cartridge and the distributor unit 130 or the cartridge connections 300 can thus be severed.

[0061] Since the same pressure is present in the pressure cushions 204, 208, each of these cushions 204, 208 will inflate largely independently of the stroke of the manifold, i.e. the distribution unit 130, until the same counterforce is built up by contact with the cartridge 105. In this way, angular errors can also be corrected.

[0062] By varying the pressure in the pressure pads 204, 208, the force with which the distribution unit 130 is pressed against the cartridge 105 also varies. During such a "docking process" of the distribution unit 130 to the cartridge 105, pressure is applied, for example, to individual or all ports previously described as cartridge connections 300. It is then possible to measure, with the valves closed, whether a pressure drop is occurring. If this is the case, the seal can be improved by increasing the contact pressure. In the manifold or the distribution unit 130, the center of force application of the pressure pad(s) 204, 208 should also be located as centrally as possible under the support surface, i.e., the sealing surface, for example, via a guide pin 404.

[0063] Fig. 5 shows a schematic representation of an embodiment of a coupling device 120, which corresponds in structure to the coupling device described in Fig. 4, for example. Here, too, the cartridge 105 is mounted at an angle, wherein the use of the pressure pads 204, 208 moves the coupling device 120 in such a way as to effect a fluidic connection between the cartridge 105 and the cartridge connections 300. According to this embodiment, the coupling device 120 and thus the distributor unit 130 rest completely against the cartridge 105, so that the air gap described in Fig. 4 is closed. According to this embodiment, to compensate for such an inclined position, the additional pressure pad 208 is filled with more compressed air than the pressure pad 204, so that the coupling unit 202 is moved flatly in the direction of the cartridge 105.

[0064] In other words, a clamping mechanism and thus the docking of the cartridge connectors 300 to the cartridge 105 is realized by means of the at least one pressure pad 204, 208. This at least one pressure pad 204, 208 replaces an electromechanical actuator or a pneumatic cylinder and generates both the travel path—i.e., either the full stroke for the complete penetration of the plunger into the cartridge 105 or a partial stroke to only break through the sealing foil, so that reagents within the cartridge 105 are released and can "leak out" driven by gravity—as well as the force required to break the sealing foil.

[0065] According to this exemplary embodiment, the support unit 200 is designed in the form of a surface on which the pressure cushion 204 can rest. The cushion 204 can be inflated by a simple inflation process, thereby pushing the coupling unit 202, also referred to as the plunger plate, upwards in a guide toward the cartridge 105. The plunger speed is only optionally controlled by controlling the valve, which is designed, for example, as a proportional valve or switching valve and can be controlled in a cyclical manner, for example, and thus influences the volume flow. Generally, for a given pressure, the required force can be achieved by adjusting the size of the cushion(s) 204, 208.

[0066] When the pressure is released, the coupling unit 202 can be moved back to its original position, for example, by a spring. Since the plunger is to be guided, a multi-part pressure pad or an annular or U-shaped pressure pad can also be used as the at least one pressure pad 204, 208.

[0067] It is advantageous to place the center of the force vector of the pressure pad(s) 204, 208 in the center or near the plungers.

[0068] Fig. 6 shows a schematic partial representation of an embodiment of a coupling device 120, which is similar, for example, to the coupling device described in at least one of Figures 1 to 5. According to this embodiment, the support element 200 has at least one first guide feature 602, and the coupling unit 202 has at least one second guide feature 604. The guide features 602, 604 are designed to cooperate to guide a movement of the coupling unit 202 relative to the support element 200. This means that, according to this embodiment, the second guide feature 604 is formed as a guide rod that is at least partially arranged in the first guide feature 602, which is formed, for example, as a guide channel. This means that the coupling unit 202 is movable together with the second guide feature 604. The second guide feature 604 extends orthogonally to a main extension plane of the coupling unit 202.

[0069] The second guide feature 604 optionally extends through the pressure pad 204, which is, for example, ring-shaped. The coupling unit 202 is, for example, shaped as a displacement plate that is displaceable relative to the support element 200. According to this exemplary embodiment, the coupling unit 202 comprises at least one centering element 606 for aligning a position of the coupling unit 202 relative to the support element 200, as well as at least one plunger 608 for opening a reagent chamber of the cartridge. The centering element 606 is, for example, pin-shaped and can also be coupled to the cartridge, for example. The centering element 606 is shaped to maintain a position when coupled to the cartridge.

[0070] Fig. 7 shows a schematic plan view of an embodiment of a coupling device, as described, for example, in at least one of Figures 1 to 5. For example, Fig. 7 shows a plan view of a partial region of the coupling device 120 from Fig. 6. According to this embodiment, two pressure pads 204, 208 are shown, between which a plunger 608 is arranged, which corresponds to or is similar to the plunger described in Fig. 6. Here, too, the plunger 608 is shaped to open a reagent chamber of the cartridge. Likewise, according to this embodiment, a centering element 606 is arranged on the coupling unit 202, which, for example, corresponds to or is similar to the centering element described in Fig. 6. According to this embodiment, the centering element 606 is arranged in an edge region of the coupling unit 202.Furthermore, two further plungers 608 are arranged on the coupling unit 202, wherein each of the further plungers 608 is arranged in the region of one of the pressure pads 204, 208, which are indicated in the illustration for illustrative purposes, since they are arranged on a side of the coupling unit 202 facing away from the plungers 608 and the centering element 606. According to the exemplary embodiment shown here, the pressure pads 204, 208 are shaped with a rectangular outline with rounded corners. Fig. 8 shows a schematic top view of an exemplary embodiment of a coupling device 120, as described, for example, in at least one of Figures 1 to 5. For example, Fig. 8 shows a top view of a partial region of the coupling device 120 from Fig. 6, similar to Fig. 7. The pressure pad 204 shown in Fig. 8 is further similar to one of the pressure pads described in Fig. 7, wherein in Fig.8 shows a single pressure pad 204 that is U-shaped and / or arranged on the coupling unit 202. As in Fig. 7, here too, only by way of example, three plungers 608 are arranged in a row on the coupling unit 202, with the pressure pad 204 at least partially surrounding the middle plunger 608. Furthermore, the centering element 606 is also shown here, which is arranged in an edge region of the coupling unit 202. Alternatively, three pressure pads 204 are connected to form a U-shaped arrangement.

[0071] Fig. 9 shows a schematic plan view of an embodiment of a coupling device 120, which was described, for example, in at least one of Figures 1 to 5. For example, Fig. 9 shows a plan view of a partial region of the coupling device 120 from Fig. 6, similar to Fig. 7 and / or Fig. 8. The pressure pad 204 shown in Fig. 9 is shaped as an annular pressure pad 204. Here, too, the centering element 606 is in an edge region of the coupling unit 202, and the three plungers 608 are arranged in a row, merely by way of example, the middle of the plungers 608 being arranged completely surrounded by a plan view of the pressure pad 204.

[0072] Fig. 10 shows a schematic partial representation of an embodiment of a coupling device, as described or mentioned, for example, in at least one of Figures 1 to 9. More precisely, in Fig. 10, the coupling unit 202 is designed as a pivot plate that can be pivoted about a pivot point 1000 relative to the support element 200. The pressure pad 204, which according to this embodiment has an oval sectional profile, is arranged between the support element 200 and the coupling unit 202. According to this embodiment, a plurality of temperature control elements 1002 or Peltier elements are shown, which are designed to temperature control the cartridge 105 or, for example, a fluid within the cartridge 105 for an analysis process. The number of temperature control elements 1002 is, for example, variable.

[0073] For example, the actuation and movement of the temperature control elements 1002 can be performed independently of the plungers. The temperature control elements 1002 are, for example, spring-loaded and supported at specific points by the pressure pad 204. This means that, according to this exemplary embodiment, the pressure pad 204 acts as the drive for the pivoting movement.

[0074] Fig. 11 shows a schematic representation of an embodiment of a coupling device 120, which was described or at least mentioned, for example, in at least one of Figures 1 to 10. According to this embodiment, the support element 200 is designed as at least one continuous plate. In an alternative embodiment, the support element is formed, for example, as at least one projection, which is also referred to as a geometric shoulder and as described, for example, in at least one of Figures 2 to 5.

[0075] According to this exemplary embodiment, the coupling device 120 has a plate element 1100 arranged parallel to the support element 200. The coupling unit 202 is also arranged parallel to the support element 200 and between the support element 200 and the plate element 1100. According to this exemplary embodiment, the plate element 1100 has a through-opening 1102 designed into which the centering element 606 can be inserted. Furthermore, according to this exemplary embodiment, the size of the pressure pad 204 is adapted to a length of the coupling unit 202. Optionally, the pressure pad 204 can function as a compressed air reservoir.

[0076] According to this exemplary embodiment, the support element 200 also has at least one first guide feature 602, and the coupling unit 202 has at least one second guide feature 604. The at least one first guide feature 602 is designed, for example, as a guide rod that extends through the second guide feature 604, for example, an opening. Due to the interaction of the guide rod and the opening, the coupling unit 202 according to this exemplary embodiment is movable in a precisely guided manner in two opposite directions. In particular, the coupling device 120 has a further first guide feature 1104 and a further second guide feature 1106, which also interact to enable the precisely guided movement of the coupling unit 202 relative to the support element 200.The second guide features 602, 1106 are each formed, for example, as a rod element which functions as a framework.

[0077] In other words, the pressure pad 204 can also be used as a compressed air reservoir, which, for example, allows a tank to be eliminated or minimized in the analyzer. This means that the pressure pad 204 is connected or connectable, for example, to the pressure supply system, described as pressure supply unit 125, in the analyzer. Compressed air reservoirs are provided, for example, in the analyzer to minimize the running time of the pumps for reasons of durability as well as acoustics. For this application, the total volume of the pressure pad 204 is approximately 100 to 120 ml.

[0078] According to this exemplary embodiment, the coupling unit 202 is designed as a continuous travel plate that can be moved via the pressure pad(s) 204 against (optional) geometrically defined stops, which are shown in Fig. 11 in the form of the plate element 1100, and thus also triggers, for example, a clamping of the temperature control elements 1002 against the cartridge. By stopping against geometric shoulders, fluctuations in the clamping force that exist due to the control pressure limits in the pneumatic system can optionally be compensated. In order to decouple the contact of the distributor unit with the cartridge from the damping and the feeding, it is possible, for example, to leave the distributor unit out of the travel mechanism of the coupling device 120. Additionally or alternatively, the coupling device 120 can, however, comprise a two-point spring guide. Fig.12 shows a schematic top view of an embodiment of a coupling device 120, as described, for example, in FIG. 11. According to this embodiment, the coupling unit 202 has a through-opening 1200 for a distributor unit for establishing a fluidic connection between the analysis device and the cartridge. Also shown in this embodiment is a pressure pad 204 having an adapted shape. This means that the pressure pad 204, according to this embodiment, is arranged on the coupling unit 202 in such a way that it covers the positions of the temperature control elements 1002 as well as the at least one plunger 608 and the centering element 606, so that a uniform coupling to the cartridge, as described, for example, in at least one of FIGS. 2 to 5, is possible.

[0079] Fig. 13 shows a schematic representation of an embodiment of a pressure pad 204 of a coupling device, as described, for example, in Fig. 11. The pressure pad 204 corresponds, for example, to the pressure pad shown in Fig. 12. The pressure pad has recesses 1304 at the corners, which, in the installed state, face the first guide features of the coupling unit. As in Fig. 12, the pressure pad 204 has a through-opening 1300 into which the distribution unit can be inserted or introduced and which can be brought into alignment with the through-opening of the coupling unit.

[0080] Fig. 14 shows a flow diagram of an embodiment of a method 1400 for operating a coupling device, as described and / or mentioned in at least one of Figures 1 to 13. The method 1400 for operating comprises a step 1402 of applying compressed air to the at least one pressure pad of the coupling device in order to move the coupling unit towards the cartridge inserted into the analysis device, for example in order to couple it to the cartridge. Furthermore, the method 1400 for operating comprises a step 1404 of applying compressed air to the pressure supply connections of the distribution unit. According to one embodiment, the method 1400 comprises a step 1406 of releasing the compressed air from the pressure supply connections of the distribution unit in order to decouple the analysis device from the cartridge. This can also be referred to as so-called unclamping.

[0081] If an embodiment comprises an “and / or” link between a first feature and a second feature, this is to be read as meaning that the embodiment according to one embodiment has both the first feature and the second feature and according to another embodiment has either only the first feature or only the second feature.
