Abstract
Description
[0001] AIR CHAMBER, MATTRASS AND METHOD .
[0002] The present invention relates to an air chamber for use in a compactable support layer, such as in a compactable mattress , which may be used on a base or surface with a nonflat or irregular shape for the purpose of providing compensation for this non- flat or irregular shape , and wherein the air chamber has a state of use and a compacted state . Furthermore , the present invention relates to a compactable mattress comprising such an air chamber . Furthermore , the present invention relates to a method for manufacturing of such an air chamber .
[0003] An air chamber for use as a mattress is known in itsel f . This comprises a top and a bottom with inner ribs in between to provide the best possible uni form height . Such an air chamber exists in di f ferent variants with elongated inner ribs and with round inner ribs .
[0004] The inventor in question has set himsel f the goal of providing an air chamber for use on a base or surface that is not flat or that has an irregular shape and provides a substantially flat top .
[0005] A problem that the inventor in question experiences is that reali zing the shape of the air chamber so that it is suitable for following the non- flat or irregularly shaped base or surface is very labor-intensive because of irregular shapes that both the inner ribs and the underside must have for this purpose .
[0006] In order to overcome such problems , the present invention provides an air chamber for use in a compactable support layer, such as in a compactable mattress , which is usable on a base or surface of a non- flat or irregular shape for the purpose of providing compensation for this non- flat or irregular shape , and where the air chamber has a state of use and a compacted state , the air chamber comprising :
[0007] - a top wall for forming a top of the air chamber during use ,
[0008] - a bottom wall for forming a bottom of the air chamber during use comprising a base following shape for substantially matching the non- flat or irregular shape of the base or surface ,
[0009] - a predetermined number of inner ribs connecting the top wall to the bottom wall , wherein :
[0010] - in the state of use , the top wall with a substantially flat shape forms a substantially flat upper surface of the air chamber,
[0011] - the inner ribs , along the top thereof , are connected to the top wall by at least one connecting strip,
[0012] - in the state of use , the bottom wall comprises at least two attachment zones and at least one transition zone , and wherein
[0013] - the inner ribs along the underside thereof are connected to the bottom wall by means of at least one connecting strip, wherein each one of the at least one connecting strip is arranged at a respective attachment zone .
[0014] It is an advantage of such an air chamber according to the present invention that height di f ferences may be achieved by means of a design that may be manufactured while saving a considerable percentage of the required manual work . Such savings are achieved in particular with regard to manual work . This saves both labor time and quality of labor because the remaining labor is relatively simple compared to the manual labor at the time of the development of the invention . The work and the results are therefore easy to reproduce in a cost-ef fective way .
[0015] A further advantage is that the transition zones provide that during trans fer of the air chamber from the compacted state to the use state , the bottom wall becomes longer than the top wall , which contributes to the possibility of connecting the bottom of the air chamber to the shape of the base or surface .
[0016] A further advantage of such an air chamber according to the present invention is that the top wall has the greatest possible contact with the respective inner ribs and therefore has the best possible predictable shape . A further advantage of such an air chamber is that abrupt height di f ferences may be readily reali zed .
[0017] According to a first preferred embodiment according to the present invention, the inner ribs each determine a distance pattern between the top wall and the bottom wall over substantially the length thereof , preferably wherein the distance patterns of the inner ribs together form the flat shape and the base following form in the state of use . By means of this distance pattern, an intended distance between the top wall and the bottom wall may be achieved in an advantageous way along the length of the inner rib .
[0018] In a further preferred embodiment the at least one transition zone , preferably during the manufacture of the air chamber, comprises at least one fold or at least a zigzag fold and / or, for example , a substantially U-shaped fold . By folding the transition zone , it is advantageously possible to achieve that two attachment zones separated by this transition zone adj acent to each other may be arranged for the purpose of attaching a respective inner rib to them . In the case of the use of a production mould, this is of further advantage for further processability .
[0019] A further preferred embodiment provides in an advantageous way that the length of the top wall is substantially equal to the length of the bottom wall minus the length of the total of at least one transition zone and / or where the length of the top wall is substantially equal to the sum of the at least two attachment zones of the bottom wall . With this , it is understood how the bottom wall and the top wall may be advantageously attached to each other to form the air chamber and / or to connect the top wall and the bottom wall to the inner ribs . With such equal length, the edges are also round to form air chamber, such as the side edges and the end edges .
[0020] According to a further preferred embodiment , the inner ribs are attached to the top wall substantially over the length or entire length thereof , and the inner ribs are attached to the bottom wall substantially over the length or entire length of the respective attachment zones between the respective transition zones attached to the bottom wall . This makes it advantageous to reali ze the substan- tiallyflat upper surface of the air chamber and the unattached transition zones provide a variant of the possibility of extending the bottom side in relation to the top side during use of the air chamber .
[0021] According to a further preferred embodiment , the inner ribs are provided over part of the length of the top wall , preferably wherein a zone without inner ribs is provided, in further preference wherein an area without inner ribs is provided at the head end, as extending from the top wall towards the bottom wall . It is an advantage that such an area without inner ribs provides space for arranging an air pump for pumping up and / or emptying the air chamber for use and storage . It is also provided that part of the ribs , such as at the location of the air pump, is shortened for the space that the air pump occupies and that in aside from the air pump, the ribs extend completely to the top wall . As such, this creates a space for the air pump . It is an advantage that such an air pump is arranged at the location of the head end because at the location of the head end a raised height is compensated by the use of a head cushion . Furthermore , in di f ferent versions it is provided, depending on the vehicle wherein the mattress is intended to be used, that the thickness of the mattress at the headboard is more than suf ficient to arrange the air pump therein . Alternatively, it is provided that an air pump may be arranged in the air chamber at the location of a part of it with a suf ficient thickness .
[0022] Furthermore , it is provided as preferred embodiment that the air chamber is equipped with an air pump with a pump shut-of f valve so that the amount of air in the air chamber remains substantially the same between filling the air chamber and emptying the air chamber . Furthermore , it is preferable that the air chamber is equipped with a pump housing that is preferably airtight sealed attached to a wall part of the air chamber such as the top wall of it or a side of it . Preferably, the pump shut-of f valve is part of this air chamber or a wall of it . Further preferably, the air pump is removable si zable in the pump housing . Preferably, the air pump is equipped with a mechanism to operate the pump shut-of f valve , such as is it designed for opening the pump shut-of f valve during filling of the air chamber and / or emptying of the air chamber .
[0023] Air chamber according to one of the foregoing claims comprising a secondary valve , such as a control valve , filler valve and / or air vent valve , for providing of an inlet and / or outlet for air, preferably providing a feature for fine regulation of the pressure in the air chamber by means of small quantity outlets of air, further preferably including a pressure relief valve function . Preferably, this secondary valve is arranged in a wall part of the air chamber . Alternatively, it is provided that the secondary valve is arranged in or attached to the air pump or to the air pump chamber . The secondary valve is preferably easy to operate by pressing by the user, allowing air to escape from the air chamber during such pressing, in order to achieve a comfortable sleep pressure , such as an air pressure that is comfortable while sleeping, from a situation with a higher pressure than the comfortable sleep pressure . Alternatively, it is provided that the secondary valve may be opened to a larger opening for pumping up the air chamber and / or pumping out the air chamber via the secondary valve . It is provided that this is done by means of a further air pump provided by the user . In addition, provision is made for the secondary valve to be equipped with a pressure relief valve function . This function makes it possible to prevent overpressure in an inflated mattress , as in particular in the case of an inflated mattress that is present in a vehicle when it is exposed to direct solar radiation .
[0024] According to a further preferred embodiment , at least one connecting strip between the inner ribs and the top wall or the bottom wall is embodied as an adhesion or weld, as formed by high- frequency welding, ultrasonic welding or heat welding, preferably forming the connecting strip . This makes it possible to achieve a solid connection between the respective parts in a cost-ef fective way, such as between the bottom wall and the underside of the inner ribs and the top wall and the upper side of the inner ribs . It is advantageous that the strips are relatively widened near the ends of the inner ribs and / or near a respective transition zone . Furthermore , for example , additional and / or transverse inner ribs may be used, such as preferably in the vicinity of a transition zone .
[0025] According to a further preferred embodiment , the inner ribs , top wall and / or bottom wall manufactured under applications of textile , TPU, PVC or combinations thereof , preferably suitable for providing mutual fastening by means of one or more operations as indicated above . This makes it possible to achieve cost-ef fective welding using such materials .
[0026] According to a further preferred embodiment , the inner ribs are arranged in the direction of the greater length of the bottom wall . With this , it is advantageously achieved that the inner ribs perpendicular to at least one transition zone provide stability to the top wall and / or the shape thereof . A further advantage of such an arrangement is that it promotes an air outlet during compacting of the air chamber in a cost-ef fective way .
[0027] Preferably, the inner ribs always have a height that substantially corresponds to a respective predetermined distance between the top wall and the bottom wall . With this , the shape of the bottom wall in relation to the top wall is determined in an advantageous way .
[0028] According to a further preferred embodiment , a respective inner rib comprises at least one segment , and in the case of at least two segments they are mutually bounded by a cutout or an interruption preferably arranged at the location of or adj acent to a respective folding location of the at least one folding location . An inner rib may extend over the entire length of the air chamber and it is advantageous that as many segments exist as attachment zones . It is advantageous that a discontinuity has been created between the segments so that the segments may each provide the direct connection between the top wall and a respective fastening zone of the bottom wall .
[0029] Alternatively, a respective inner rib extends from the transition zone to transition zone or from the edge of the air chamber to transition zone . In such a case , it is also possible for such short inner ribs to provide the same configuration as an inner rib extending from the end wall to the end edge of the air chamber in a series of successive sequences . Depending on the si ze of the air chamber, it is readily advantageous to provide separate pieces of inner rib or a larger inner rib with multiple segments .
[0030] According to a further preferred embodiment , a respective inner rib or segment thereof has substantiallya quadrangular shape , such as a trapezoidal shape , thus forming the pattern of distance between the top and bottom walls . A particular advantage here is that the connecting strips of the respective top and bottom walls are substantially built on top of each other . This makes a welding process or melting process advantageously performable , for example . This makes it possible to achieve the flat shape of the top wall in an advantageous way . It also makes it possible to achieve in an advantageous way that fastening zones may have a straight shape .
[0031] It is advantageously provided that an inner rib is arranged between the lower and top walls while it is folded in hal f or folded in such a way that the non-parallel sides of the quadrangular shape or trapezoid are arranged on top of each other . When arranged in this position, the inner rib or its segment may be fixed by means of a fixation operation as indicated in this speci fication .
[0032] In an alternative way, it is provided that the side of the inner rib that may be arranged on the bottom wall has a curvature for the reali zation of a curved surface part of the bottom wall .
[0033] According to a further preferred embodiment , at least part of the predetermined number of inner ribs is embodied as a substantially columnar element connected to the top and bottom walls at the location of a columnar shape thereof . By means of such a design of the inner rib as a columnar element , an advantageous alternative is provided with which di f ferences in distance between the top and bottom walls may be reali zed through the transition zone . Preferably, such a columnar element in the state of use in side view is trapezoidal .
[0034] Preferably, each columnar element has a predetermined height . Furthermore , the columnar element has a substantially elongated shape that in the state of use extends between the top and bottom walls . This elongated shape provides an advantageous bridging of the distance between the top and bottom walls . A mutual relationship between a width and a height of such a columnar element may be determined by the skilled person in the field within the concept of the present invention or respective preferred versions thereof .
[0035] According to a further preferred embodiment , the columnar element in the use state has a cross-section shape with a substantially round or polygonal shape , such as a quadrilateral . Such a cross-section shape provides choice options of production advantages or usage preferences . In the description on the basis of the figures , a square variant is shown and described that may be manufactured in an advantageous way by means of a closed strip of inner rib material or that may be closed during manufacture and that may be used in an advantageous way for the purpose of arranging in an air chamber during its manufacture with a fastening process with preferably one fastening operation .
[0036] To provide advantages during the manufacture of the air chamber, the columnar element , preferably during manufacture of the air chamber, comprises at least one fold or at least one zigzag fold . This achieves similar advantages as described by elongated inner ribs and transition zones , since a columnar element arranged with such folds in the air chamber may have a relatively high height relative to a distance between them during manufacture .
[0037] According to a speci ficly advantageous preferred embodiment , a respective columnar element on one side of a transition zone has a di f ferent height than a respective adj acent or neighbouring columnar element on a second side of the transition zone . This makes it possible to determine the distance between the top wall and the bottom wall in the vicinity of a transition zone in an advantageous manner . A further shaping of this distance may be achieved by varying adj acent columnar elements that are directly adj acent without allowing the intermediate transition zone to vary . According to the present invention or preferred embodiments thereof , the di f ference in length caused by variations in this distance between the top wall and the bottom of the wall is compensated by at least one transition zone .
[0038] According to a further preferred embodiment , adj acent series of columnar elements are arranged staggered in relation to each other . This makes it advantageous to achieve that a relatively high height of the columnar elements may be arranged next to each other during the manufacture of the air chamber in a flat state , as is preferable during a welding operation for fixation in the air chamber . It also allows a relatively large number of columnar elements to be arranged in the air chamber, which contributes to a relatively flat top due to a relatively small number of respective bulges or curves between the relatively large number of columnar elements .
[0039] According to a further preferred embodiment according to the present invention, at the location of a folding location or at least one fold or the at least one zigzag fold and / or, for example , a substantially U-shaped fold thereof , the top wall and the bottom wall are connected along the edge by means of an extension formed from material of the respective top wall and bottom wall . This provides an advantageous way that the air chamber may expand at the location of the transition zone so that relief of stresses for the edge attachment strip may be achieved in an advantageous manner .
[0040] According to a further preferred embodiment , the substantially flat shape of the top wall in a direction perpendicular to the inner ribs by a distance between the inner ribs and / or where the substantially flat shape of the top wall in the longitudinal direction of the inner ribs is substantially determined by a shape of the connecting strip reali zing the attachment between the inner ribs and the top wall . Such a preferred embodiment provides in an advantageous manner that the shape of the top wall is adj ustable within the concept of the present invention by the ef ficient selection of such a distance between the inner ribs and / or such a distance between the inner ribs . This determines , for example , the width of a curve between adj acent inner ribs . It is also provided that the height of the curvature between adj acent inner ribs may be determined .
[0041] Furthermore , taking into account that the height of the inner ribs influence the distance between the top and bottom walls between the top and bottom walls , it may be determined, for example , that one or more curves along the side of the air chamber may be determined to be somewhat higher than one or more curves along the middle of the air chamber, so that a stable position of a person on the air chamber may be achieved .
[0042] According to a further preferred embodiment , the predetermined number of inner ribs is determined in such a way that a distance between at least part of the inner ribs is less than 15 cm, further preferably is less than 12 cm, further preferably less than 10 cm, further preferably less than 8 cm . By means of such a parameter, as indicated, a certain comfort of the air chamber or a mattress containing the air chamber may be achieved in an advantageous manner .
[0043] According to a further preferred embodiment , a connection along respective end edges and side edges is a direct connection between the top and the bottom wall or a connection formed by means of wall ribs . By means of such a design choice within the concept of the present invention, a lateral height of the air chamber may be determined in an advantageous manner . Furthermore , the air chamber comprises wall ribs arranged along respective side and / or end edges of the air chamber . In an alternative manner to the versions described above , the inner ribs a are arranged perpendicular to the direction of the larger length of the bottom wall .
[0044] A further aspect according to the present invention relates to a compactable mattress comprising an air chamber according to the present invention, preferably comprising a top layer or comfort layer arranged or arrangeable on the air chamber, preferably including an enveloping mattress cover . Such a compactable mattress provides advantages as described using the above aspect . The advantage of providing such a compactable mattress is that , in addition to a buf fering ef fect provided by the air chamber, a buf fering ef fect of the top layer or comfort layer is optionally provided . It is here with provided that such a top layer is provided with any layer occurring in mattresses or combinations thereof , such as comprising foam rubber, latex, 3D fabric or the like separately and / or a combination thereof .
[0045] According to a preferred version, the compactable mattress comprises an enclosure , such as a bag, cover or casing, such as for outdoor use enveloping the compactable mattress , which may be brought into a substantially open or flat state during use of the mattress and which may be brought into a closed or enveloping state for the purpose of encasing the mattress when not in use . It is advantageously provided that the mattress may be compacted by rolling up and may be encased in the casing . It is advantageous i f the casing is permanently or semi-permanently attached to the mattress so that it is always available after using the mattress for encasing it .
[0046] According to a further preferred version, the mattress is fitted with coupling means , such as a hook-in hook and loop fastener element , for coupling with the casing and where the casing is provided with a corresponding coupling device , such as a hook-on hook and loop fastener element . With this , it has been advantageously achieved that the mattress may be attached to the casing, or provisionally attachable to the casing during actions leading to encasing the mattress with the casing . Encasing the mattress through the casing requires dexterity on the part of the user of the mattress because the mattress must be kept in a compacted state during the closing of the casing . Release the compacted mattress by means of an attachment or provisional attachment according to the user ' s preferred embodiment and use both hands advantageously to close the casing .
[0047] According to a further preferred embodiment , the coupling devices of the mattress have a coupling range or hook-on range in a first direction and wherein the coupling devices of the case have a coupling range or a hook-on range in a second direction where the first direction is at an angle , either intersecting at any angle or transverse , preferably substantially at an angle between 45 and 135 ° or any sub-segment thereof , in relation to the second direction, such as for the purpose of an overlapping hook-on range . With this , it has been advantageously achieved that a chance of hitting the strap of the casing and the associated hook and loop fastener of the mattress is substantially 100% . The user does not have to pay attention to whether this is going ' well ' .
[0048] According to a further preferred embodiment , the mattress comprises sealing devices , such as a zipper or a hook and loop fastener fastener for closing the casing when the compactable mattress is brought inside the casing . This makes it advantageous to trans form a substantially flat material , such as a textile material , into the casing, such as a bag or casing .
[0049] According to a further preferred embodiment , the mattress comprising handling holding means for keeping the mattress in a manageable state during roll-up and / or enveloping of the mattress , the handling holding means comprising :
[0050] - fasteners for a folding over part of the mattress during the roll-up and / or encasement of the mattress after the folding over part has been folded over . With this , it is advantageously achieved to ensure that the mattress remains in a folded state due to the handling holding means , so that further compacting of the mattress is easy to carry out without having to keep it in the folded state . This is a great advantage for the user because during further compaction, the folded parts shi ft in relation to the rest of the mattress without the use of the handling holding means .
[0051] According to a further preferred embodiment , the folding over part for folding thereof to the folded state in top view is a strip . It is provided in an advantageous way that the mattress 1 part may be folded, such as the turning of the outer l / 4th part on a hori zontal hal f of two quarters on either side of a centerline thereof .
[0052] Preferably, the mattress part before it is folded to the folded state is substantially against a diameter line , such as a longitudinal diameter, of the mattress . In an alternative way, for example , provision is made for the folding of 1 / 3 parts on a lying part of substantially 1 / 3 of the mattress , whereby the said centerline forms the middle of the lying part . In addition to these examples , other folding or holding over ratios are conceivable within the concept of the invention in question or preferred forms thereof .
[0053] According to a further preferred embodiment , the mattress comprises two cover parts arranged in the folded state against a centerline , such as the longitudinal centerline , of the mattress , such as leading to an arrangement of one hal f the mattress width, or wherein the mattress comprises two cover parts arranged overlapping when folded, as leading to an arrangement of 1 / 3 of the mattress width .
[0054] According to a further preferred embodiment , the fasteners are arranged for attaching the cover parts to each other at the location of the center line and / or for attaching the cover part to a part of the mattress at the location of the center line , such as by means of a buckle , zipper, hook and loop fastener, button connection .
[0055] According to a further preferred embodiment , the mattress comprises a permanent or semi-permanent attachment between the mattress or its cover and the covering, preferably designed as a coupling connection such as a hook and loop fastener or a zipper .
[0056] A further aspect according to the present invention concerns a process for the production of an air chamber semi- finished product of an air chamber according to the first aspect described, the process comprising steps for :
[0057] - providing of a top wall for forming a top of the air chamber during use ,
[0058] - providing of a bottom wall for forming a bottom of the air chamber during use ,
[0059] - Providing a predetermined number of inner ribs for connecting the top wall to the bottom wall ,
[0060] - determining of at least two attachment zones and at least one transition zone
[0061] - adj acently arranging of the at least two attachment zones ,
[0062] - arranging of the predetermined number of inner ribs in relation to an inside of the at least two attachment zones ,
[0063] - arranging of the top wall in relation to the bottom wall , and
[0064] - forming of connecting strips for the interconnection of at least the inner ribs with the top wall and the at least two fastening zones .
[0065] The execution of this method and the resulting products provide advantages as described on the basis of other aspects according to the present invention .
[0066] According to a first preferred implementation of this aspect , the steps for adj acently arranging of the at least two attachment zones together comprises steps for arranging of a respective transition zone between these attachment zones at an outer side of the bottom wall . With this , it has been advantageously achieved that the whole of a respective inner rib may be attached to at least one respective fastening zone . Furthermore , it is practical to arrange the transition zone on the outside , preferably on the underside of the bottom wall .
[0067] According to a further preferred embodiment , the steps for arranging the transition zone on the outside of the bottom wall comprise steps for folding or diverting the respective transition zone , further preferably wherein the folding or diverting comprises steps for guiding of the transition zone by means of a guide or implement , such as primarily U-shaped, such as a rod, as substantially U- shaped, guiding a respective part of the bottom wall in the transition zone during forming of the connecting strips . Depending on the mould used, a choice may be made cost-ef fectively between, for example , folding or rerouting . For example , folding has the advantage that the fastening zones may be accurately arranged against each other . The advantage of applying the conductor or implement is that an advantageous guidance of the material forming the transition zone is reali zed .
[0068] According to a further preferred embodiment , comprising steps for folding the inner ribs , such as during or prior to arranging of the inner ribs in relation to the attachment zones , preferably in such a way that the connecting strips to be formed are arranged on top of each other during forming thereof . With this , it has been advantageously achieved that the forming of the connecting strips may be carried out in a single operation . For example , an ultrasonic welding element with a pattern in the form of all the connecting strips to be reali zed is applied cost- ef fectively to the whole of the air chamber in this single operation .
[0069] According to a further preferred embodiment , the method comprises steps to provide at least a zigzag fold in the inner rib . With this , it is advantageously achieved that a relatively high height of the inner rib may be combined with a relatively small distance between adj acent inner ribs . According to a further preferred version, the steps for forming the connecting strips comprise steps for forming an adhesive or a weld, as formed by high- frequency welding, ultrasonic welding or heat welding, preferably forming the connecting strip . With this , it is advantageously reali zed that prior to forming of the connecting strips , correctly arranged inner ribs within the top wall and bottom wall arranged on top of each other may be efficiently provided with the connecting strips in an economical manner .
[0070] In addition, the method comprises steps for providing a template or support for the purpose of forming the connecting strips , preferably the template or the support comprising a recess for arranging therein a respective transition zone of at least one transition zone . By means of such a mould, the forming of the connecting strips may be carried out ef ficiently . Furthermore , it is advantageously achieved that the transition zone outside the air chamber is arranged during this operation . For example , there is provision for smooth or flat moulds on which the transition zone may be arranged under the respective term one attachment zone . In addition, a mould with a recess is provided for arranging the transition zone in it .
[0071] According to a further preferred version, the method does not comprise steps for forming of connecting strips for connecting of respective side edges and end edges of the top and bottom wall for sealing the air chamber along these edges , or including steps for arranging at least one respective outer rib at the location of the side edges and end edges for similar fastening by means of connecting strips as the inner ribs . This makes it possible to determine and manufacture dimensions and shapes of the air chamber in an advantageous way within the concept of the present invention .
[0072] According to a further preferred embodiment , the method comprises steps for providing an extension formed of material from the respective top and bottom walls at the location of a transition zone . By means of such an extension, it is advantageously possible in the concept of the present invention to facilitate forming of the air chamber in the state of use .
[0073] According to a further preferred embodiment , the method comprises steps prior to the step of forming connecting strips , applying of an insulator or insulator layer between the top wall , the bottom wall and / or an inner rib at locations where forming of the connecting strips is to be omitted . With this , it has been advantageously achieved that folded parts of material from the bottom wall and / or the ribs are attached to each other by means of a connecting strip during the execution of steps for forming the connecting strips . This enables connecting strips that may be formed with advantageous process steps , such as welding or ultrasonic welding and / or melting or gluing, which greatly increases the speed of producing air chambers .
[0074] According to a further preferred embodiment , the present invention has the advantage that all the connecting strips are formed in a single instance of the step for forming connecting strips for the entire air chamber .
[0075] Further features described in the present claims and description, such as on the basis of the figures , are further provided for in order to be comprised in a method according to a preferred embodiment according to this invention .

As a result , with this preferred embodiment it has been achieved to ensure that a person may lie comfortably on this cargo floor on a substantially flat surface , whereas without this mattress the person would have a negative influence of the shape of this cargo floor .
[0089] The top of the mattress is substantially flat . The upper side of the air chamber has elongated curves , similar to those shown in Fig . 7 . These curves are absorbed by the thickness of the comfort layer 3 arranged on the curves . Experiments have shown that with a distance of ribs of less than 10 cm between them, such curves are in practice so subordinate that they have a negligible influence on the comfort of the mattress .
[0090] The bottom two views of Fig . 1 are exploded side views of the air chamber 2 . The exploded view provides a view of an inner rib 25 that is present in the air chamber . This inner rib 25 comprises three segments , segment 23 , segment 24 and segment 25 . The underside of segment 23 is arranged against attachment zone 13 of the bottom wall 11 . The underside of segment 24 is arranged against attachment zone 14 of the bottom wall 11 . The underside of segment 25 is arranged against attachment zone 15 of the bottom wall 11 .
[0091] The tops of the three segments 23 , 24 , 25 are arranged against the top wall 12 . This has resulted in an advantageous way of creating a substantially flat top wall or shape thereof.
[0092] In this representation it is clearly visible that the length of the top wall in the condition of use is shorter than the length of the bottom wall. Within the concept of the present invention in this preferred version, this has been done by applying both three attachment zones 13, 14, 15 and two transition zones 17, 18. Because of the relative size of transition zone 17, it is emphasized in this description and in the figures. It may also be seen that transition zone 17 comprises a plane 17' for an elevation transition .
[0093] Within the understanding of the present invention, relatively large or relatively steep height transitions may be realized by means of a transition zone and relatively small or relatively lazy height transitions may be realized by means of a slope of the attachment zone. It is also provided that there are curved transitions that may be realised in a similar way by means of a transition zone or attachment zone in the event that the base or surface has a curvature with a non-flat or irregular shape.
[0094] In the lower view of Fig. 1 there are three separate inner ribs which correspond substantially to the three segments 23,24,25 of the single inner rib 25 of the middle view of Fig. 1. In this lower view of Fig. 1, the respective folding lines of the inner ribs are shown. Inner rib 23 has a folding line 23' . Inner rib 24 has a folding line 24' . Inner rib 25 has a folding line 25' .
[0095] Fig. 2 shows a piano representation of an top wall 12 and a bottom wall 11 of a further preferred embodiment. The bottom wall 11 has a transition zone 17 and a transition zone 18 that resembles to some extent the equally numbered transition zone 17 and transition zone 18 of Fig. 1. This air chamber has end walls 31.32 and side walls 33.34. The bottom wall 11 is longer than the top wall 12 .
[0096] The di f ference concerns the total length of transition zone
[0097] 17 and transition zone 18 added together . The transition zone has a central folding line 53 , a left folding line 52 and a right folding line 51 . The transition zone 17 also has an insulation strip 36 that is arranged over area 54 of the transition zone 17 . This serves to ensure that when plane 54 is folded against plane 55 of transition zone 17 , so that the entire transition zone is below the bottom wall 11 , they remain isolated from each other during a welding operation for forming the air chamber so that they do not become attached to each other by this welding operation . This works in a similar way for transition zone 18 , which is so small that the description of transition zone 17 is used to be analogous for the operation of transition zone
[0098] 18 .
[0099] A detail of such a preferred embodiment is shown in Fig . 5 where an extension 27 is shown at the location of transition zone 17 . This means that the top wall and the bottom wall may be attached to each other with suf ficient material clearance by means of a suitable connecting strip or combination of connecting strips and thus close of f the air chamber on site .
[0100] Fig . 3 shows how the transition zones of the bottom wall are folded in such a way that the respective attachment zones 13 , 14 , 15 are arranged adj acent to each other . As a result , the top wall as shown in this figure is the same length as the bottom wall . Insulation strips 35 , 36 are also shown, which are arranged within the folded part of the transition zone in order to prevent this transition zone with the inner ribs that may be arranged on it from being fixed by forming connecting strips to it during forming of connecting strips to the ribs . In Fig . 4 a number of inner ribs are arranged on the bottom wall . These inner ribs are folded in such a way that each segment is substantially folded in the middle so that the lower and upper sides of the inner ribs are arranged on top of each other . The respective locations 12 are shown for the connecting strips to be formed . Furthermore , the location 13 ' of the connecting strips to be formed on the bottom wall 11 is shown . The inner ribs are therefore provided with the necessary connecting strips at locations 12 and 13 ' .
[0101] When all inner ribs are arranged on the bottom wall 11 and the top wall is arranged on top of that , the whole of the connecting strips is formed by ultrasonic welding or HF welding .
[0102] Fig . 6 shows a piano representation of inner ribs as used in the preferred embodiment according to Fig . 2 . Such inner ribs are defined in advance in order to achieve a desired base following shape by means of a combination of the distance pattern determined for each inner rib . The upper inner rib extends substantially over the entire length of the air chamber . The shorter inner ribs are suitable for side wings of the air chamber .
[0103] Fig . 7 shows a preferred embodiment according to the present invention in the state of use in three views . The top view is a perspective view from the top . This shows the curves 12 ' that are present in the top wall 12 . Furthermore , this view shows a top-down view of transition zones 17 and 18 as well as the extension 27 . Furthermore , this view shows the end edges 31 , 32 and the side edges 33 , 34 .
[0104] The middle view shows a more sideways view with a slightly top-down view . This also shows how transition zones 17 , 18 and extension 27 are arranged .
[0105] The bottom view shows a perspective view with substantially the bottom . This also shows how transition zones 17 , 18 and extension 27 are arranged . This view clearly shows how between the attachment zone 13 , only the Apple 14 the transition zone creates a steep wall section 17 ' from the transition zone 17 .
[0106] Fig . 8 shows schematically three examples of a mould with a detail of the bottom wall for each respective mould . The mould 41 is , as used in the manufacture of the preferred version according to figures 2 - 7 , a flat mould with a folded bottom wall in a zigzag fold 17" . In this view, the insulator or insulator layer for preventing forming of a connecting strip is not shown .
[0107] The second example of Fig . 8 concerns a substantially V-shaped recess 48 that is formed in the mould 42 . By means of this recess , it is provided that the transition zone 45 . 46 is arranged in the recess 48 , formed by walls 43 . 44 , of the mould during the application of the connecting strips . This has created an alternative way of preventing the installation of connecting strips at the respective transition zone of the bottom wall 11 .
[0108] In the third example of Fig . 8 , a mould 42 was used in combination with a conductor or implement 47 for the purpose of forming such a transition zone . The conductor or implement serves to push material downward from the bottom wall 11 to form the transition zone . According to the preferred embodiment shown, it is preferably substantially U- shaped, like a rod, for the purpose of guiding a respective part of the bottom wall in transition zone 45 , 46 , which preferably is substantially a U-shape . The conductor or implement 47 is inserted into a space 48 of the mold formed by wall members 43 , 44 . This has resulted in an advantageous method of manufacturing the transition zone . A further preferred embodiment including a further variant of the inner rib is shown in Figure 9 . This inner rib is substantially formed with a columnar shape . Such a columnar shape means that several inner ribs may be seen as a top-down discrete shape , as in contrast to the elongated inner ribs described above . These columnar inner ribs extend from the bottom wall to the top wall . The columnar inner ribs are attached to the bottom wall and to the top wall .
[0109] The columnar shape of the columnar inner ribs 61 is visible in the side view as a series of elongated trapezoids . In the top view, these are visible as respective squares . A transition zone 67 of the air chamber is arranged at the location of a distance transition of the distance between the top and bottom walls . Within the concept of the present invention, such a distance transition is similar to that of other preferred forms of implementation .
[0110] Successive series of columnar inner ribs are arranged staggered so that a relatively high height may be achieved, while the material from which the columnar inner ribs are formed do not overlap each other in a flat state during a welding operation . This will achieve the advantages mentioned above in a practical way .
[0111] The columnar inner rib 61 is preferably formed from a strip of material 68 , such as the same material of the upper or bottom wall or a further material . The strip material is formed into a substantially loop shape when the columnar inner rib is part of the air chamber . The loop shape may be manufactured prior to assembly of the air chamber by gluing or welding the web material to the loop . Alternatively, it is provided that the sheet of material is arranged between the top and bottom walls during the manufacture of the air chamber and is glued or welded during the respective machining of the air chamber . In a further alternative way, it is provided that only the walls of the T1 column shape are glued or welded to the respective bottom wall and top wall without ' closing ' the loop at the top or bottom . This creates a column shape with one or two single walls , which may be interconnected on one side for advantageous handling, such as during arrangement of the strip in the air chamber prior to processing for bonding or welding .
[0112] The variant of the columnar inner rib as shown comprises an upper side 62 , lower side 63 , front 64 and rear 65 . The front may be arranged in an alternative way as , for example , the left side and the back may be arranged as the right side , for example . The columnar inner rib preferably comprises at least two connecting strips 70 per top or bottom . In that case , they are preferably arranged oppositely . In a further alternative way, the columnar inner rib 61 comprises a substantially square connecting strip 69 along all sides of a top or bottom, such as for four-sided stability provision to the air chamber . It is provided that the connecting strip closest to a transition zone is subj ect to the greatest forces during use of the air chamber in the state of use . To this end, it is provided to make these heavier or thicker . Alternatively, it is provided that the entire top or bottom of the column shape is substantially designed as a connecting strip, which therewith acquires a respective quadrangular shape .
[0113] Fig . 10 relates to five representations showing a preferred version of a compactable mattress according to the present invention with a casing . This representation also shows how a mattress is preferably brought into the casing after use and pumping empty . To this end, the mattress comprises fasteners such as here embodied as buckles 73 . In an alternative way, fasteners are already mentioned, such as a connection with a hook and loop fastener, zipper or button . As shown in views B, C, two respective side strips 76 , 77 are folded or folded over a respective adj acent middle section on either side of a central centerline of the mattress . This creates a partially folded mattress with substantially hal f a width of that of the unfolded mattress . After rolling it up, the mattress is substantially hal f as narrow as the unfolded mattress . In an alternative way, provision is made for the folding of strips with a width of substantially 1 / 3 of the mattress over each other . Such a variant leads to a roll-up width of substantially 1 / 3 of the width of the unfolded mattress . In such a variant , the hook and loop fastener version of the fasteners is also speci fically provided .
[0114] After the folding or folding of strips of the mattress , provision is made for rolling, repeated turning or folding, of the resulting mattress into a compacted package or a roll . This is shown in the D view .
[0115] In addition, Figure 10 shows a case 71 with a handle 83 . The mattress is shown in flat and is formed into the shape of a bag or case for the purpose of forming the casing and is closed in that form by means of a zipper 84 after the mattress has been arranged on it as shown in view E as a compacted package or the roll .
[0116] To make this method simple for the user, a number of features have been provided . The casing 71 is attached to the underside of the mattress by means of an attachment such as a preferred zipper connection . This makes it advantageous to leave the casing basically permanently attached to the mattress . During use of the mattress , it is therefore advantageously located exactly where it is needed when cleaning up or enveloping the mattress .
[0117] Furthermore , the case comprises a number of strips of hook and loop fast dome ener as preferred fastening material on the inside of it . These strips of hook and loop fastener are intended for cooperation with a strip of hook and loop fastener 74 attached to the underside of the mattress . With this , it has been advantageously achieved that a mattress roll is created with these strips of hook and loop fastener on the outside during the roll-up of the mattress . When it is rolled from the representation in figure E over the strips of hook and loop fastener 75 of the casing, a fixation is created between the strips of hook and loop fastener 74 and the strips of hook and loop fastener 75 . This keeps the mattress in the compacted state or the rolled up state when the user releases it and allows the user to easily zip up the zipper connection 84 of the casing so that the casing closes . The user does not have to hold the roll of the mattress so that it remains in the compacted state while carrying out the closing of the mattress .
[0118] In order for the hook and loop fastener 74 to ' touch ' with the hook and loop fastener 75 , they are at an angle to each other . This angle is preferably substantially perpendicular, but any other angle functions j ust as well . Other preferred angles are , for example , between 45 and 135 ° or between 75 and 105 ° .
[0119] Fig . 11 shows the application of a pump arranged in the air chamber . This is preferably attached to the top wall , such as in an opening in it . The pump is arranged in a pump housing 12 that is preferably fixed airtight in an opening of the top wall . The pump may be arranged in the housing . Furthermore , in this assembly of pump and pump housing, a valve is provided for closing off the air chamber in relation to the environment . Preferably, for example , a wall of the pump housing has the valve and the pump is equipped with actuating agents for activating the valve during pumping and / or emptying the air chamber . Preferably, the air chamber comprises a further valve 81 . This further valve 81 is preferably designed to release air from the air chamber so that the user of the mattress may adj ust the air pressure in the air chamber to a personal preference after being called up . A further variant of such a valve is that it may be used to create a large opening for pumping up and / or emptying the air chamber by means of an externally available pump . This is practical in many operating conditions , such as in the absence of electric power or the availability of an external pump .
[0120] A substantially flat top of the air chamber is defined as an encompassing a shape formed by air pressure on the inside of the air chamber with associated curves , while inner ribs present in the air chamber provide structure in such a way that the curves through these inner ribs are limited, where preferably at the location of the inner ribs these are also functional for determining the distance between the bottom of the air chamber at the top of the air chamber .
[0121] A transition zone within the definition of this speci fication is a zone of a bottom wall of an air chamber to which no inner ribs are attached . Within this concept , another word for transition zone could be used as rib- free zone because in this part of the bottom wall there is free of a part of a rib or inner rib attached to it .
[0122] For the purposes of this description, a connecting strip may be defined as an area with at least one or a series of fastening instances , such as dots , lines , or the like . For example , an elongated strip is particularly applicable to elongated ribs . A reinforcement of such an elongated strip is preferably carried out as a widening of it or at least as a dot , such as near the end of such an elongated strip . For other variants of a rib as described or further within the concept of the present invention directly applicable to the skilled person concerns any form of a part wherein the rib is connected to , for example , an top wall or a bottom wall with some surface shape . Example of an elongated strip is suitable . In the above , the present invention has been described on the basis of a number of preferred versions .
[0123] A further aspect according to the present invention relates to a mattress according to one or more of claims 28 - 35 which instead of the air chamber according to an aspect of the present invention comprises any other mattress filling, speci fically including any air chamber with a fixed air chamber height or with a flat and regular shape , or any foam filling, which is also provided with any features as described in this document . A further aspect according to the present invention relates to a sleeping bag instead of a mattress with handling holding means according to a preferred embodiment according to the present invention .
[0124] Di f ferent aspects of di f ferent designs are considered to have been described in combination with each other, whereby all combinations that fall within the scope of the invention when read by a skilled person of the field on the basis of this document are considered by a skilled person to have been read along . These preferred embodiments do not limit the scope of protection of this document . The rights requested are set out in the attached claims .
