AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Conventional battery packs face challenges in effectively managing temperature rise and suppressing fires in battery cells, particularly due to the concentration of battery cells in a narrow space leading to excessive heat generation.

Method used

The battery system incorporates a sensing unit to collect state information, a cooling device with a heat exchange unit that operates based on temperature thresholds, and a Battery Management System (BMS) to control the cooling device and manage potential fires by circulating cooling liquid and stopping the heat exchange unit if a fire is detected.

Benefits of technology

This solution minimizes temperature rise in battery cells and quickly suppresses fires by effective cooling and notification to external control centers, thereby preventing additional damage.

Abstract

A battery system according to one embodiment of the present invention comprises: a battery cell for storing and supplying energy through charging and discharging; a sensing unit for collecting state information of the battery cell; a cooling device for heat dissipation of the battery cell; and a BMS for controlling an operation of the cooling device on the basis of the state information collected from the sensing unit, wherein the cooling device includes a cooling liquid for cooling the battery cell, and a heat exchange unit for cooling the cooling liquid, and, if it is determined that a fire has occurred in the battery cell, the heat exchange unit operates under a first condition or a second condition on the basis of the state information.
