[0068] A display panel (10) that uses a color filter (182) and a light-blocking layer (183) as an optical functional layer (OFL) instead of a polarizing plate or polarizing film can improve the luminous efficiency of display elements, thereby improving power consumption and increasing luminance, and thus extending the lifespan of the display panel. In addition, the same or higher luminance / lifespan can be secured even with a smaller area than a conventional luminous area. In addition, since a polarizing plate or polarizing film itself is not used, the thickness of the display panel can be reduced.

[0069] The color filter (182) may include a first color filter (182a) that selectively transmits only light of a first color, a second color filter (182b) that selectively transmits only light of a second color, and a third color filter (182c) that selectively transmits only light of a third color. [0072] The second thin film transistor (T2) is a switching thin film transistor, and is connected to the scan line (SL) and the data line (DL), and can transmit the data voltage input from the data line (DL) to the first thin film transistor (T1) according to the switching voltage input from the scan line (SL). The storage capacitor (Cst) is connected to the second thin film transistor (T2) and the driving voltage line (PL), and can store a voltage corresponding to the difference between the voltage received from the second thin film transistor (T2) and the first power voltage (ELVDD) supplied to the driving voltage line (PL).

[0073] The first thin film transistor (T1) is a driving thin film transistor, and is connected to a driving voltage line (PL) and a storage capacitor (Cst), and can control a driving current flowing through an organic light emitting diode (OLED) from the driving voltage line (PL) in response to a voltage value stored in the storage capacitor (Cst). The organic light emitting diode (OLED) can emit light having a predetermined brightness according to the driving current. A first electrode (e.g., an anode) of the organic light emitting diode (OLED) is connected to a pixel circuit (PC), and a second electrode (e.g., a cathode) of the organic light emitting diode (OLED) can be supplied with a second power voltage (ELVSS).

[0074] Although FIG. 2 illustrates that the pixel circuit (PC) includes two thin film transistors and one storage capacitor, it is to be understood that in other embodiments, the number of thin film transistors or the number of storage capacitors may be changed depending on the design of the pixel circuit (PC).

[0075] FIG. 6 is a cross-sectional view of a display device according to one embodiment of the present invention. For example, it is an enlarged view of a part of FIG. 3.

[0076] Referring to FIG. 6, as described above in FIG. 3, a pixel circuit (PC) may be disposed on a substrate (100), and a first organic light-emitting diode (OLED1) electrically connected thereto may be disposed on the pixel circuit (PC). The first organic light-emitting diode (OLED1) may include a pixel electrode (121), a light-emitting layer (122b), and a counter electrode (123) disposed within a first opening (OP1) of a pixel definition film (119). A thin film encapsulation layer (TFEL) may be disposed on the first organic light-emitting diode (OLED1), and a touch screen layer (TSL) may be disposed on the thin film encapsulation layer (TFEL). The touch screen layer (TSL) may include an insulating layer (174) and a first touch electrode (171).

[0077] In one embodiment, a first light-blocking layer (183a) may be disposed on the first touch electrode (171). The first light-blocking layer (183a) may cover the first touch electrode (171). For example, the first touch electrode (171) may be disposed within the first light-blocking layer (183a) and may be in direct contact with the first light-blocking layer (183a).

[0078] The first touch electrode (171) may include at least one of titanium (Ti), aluminum (Al), molybdenum (Mo), or copper (Cu). For example, the first touch electrode (171) may be provided in a structure in which titanium (Ti) and aluminum (Al) are laminated, a structure in which aluminum (Al) and molybdenum (Mo) are laminated, or a structure in which titanium (Ti) or copper (Cu) is laminated. The size of the second opening (OP2) defined in the first light-blocking layer (183a) may be larger than the size of the first opening (OP1) defined in the pixel definition film (119). Due to the difference in size between the first opening (OP1) of the pixel defining film (119) and the second opening (OP2) of the first light-blocking layer (183a), a region (s1 or s2) where the first light-blocking layer (183a) is not disposed may exist on the pixel defining film (119) adjacent to the first organic light-emitting diode (OLED1). When external light is incident on the S1 region or the S2 region, the external light may not be absorbed by the first light-blocking layer (183a) and may be reflected by the counter electrode (123) of the first organic light-emitting diode (OLED1). If the reflectivity of the external light incident on the S1 region or the S2 region increases, the visibility of the display device may be adversely affected.

[0080] A first color filter (182a) may be arranged to overlap with the second opening (OP2) of the first light-shielding layer (183a). A first high-refractive-index layer (200a) may be arranged on the first color filter (182a). The first high-refractive-index layer (200a) may be arranged to overlap with the first light-shielding layer (183a). A length (b1) of the first high-refractive-index layer (200a) in a first direction (e.g., the y direction or the -y direction) may be longer than a length (a1) of the first light-shielding layer (183a) in the first direction (e.g., the y direction or the -y direction). The first high-refractive-index layer (200a) may be provided in the shape of a convex lens. In cross-section, the first high-refractive-index layer (200a) may have a convex upper surface.

[0081] An overcoat layer (184) may be disposed on the first high-refractive-index layer (200a). The overcoat layer (184) may be disposed continuously on the substrate (100). The refractive index of the first high-refractive-index layer (200a) may be greater than the refractive index of the overcoat layer (184).

[0082] Due to the first high refractive index layer (200a) having a convex lens shape on the first light-shielding layer (183a) and having a higher refractive index than the overcoat layer (184), external light incident on the S1 region or the S2 region can be refracted on the convex upper surface of the first high refractive index layer (200a) and absorbed into the first light-shielding layer (183a). Since the external light is refracted on the convex upper surface of the first high refractive index layer (200a) and absorbed into the first light-shielding layer (183a), the reflectivity of external light incident on the display device can be reduced, and the visibility of the display device can be improved.

[0083] Additionally, a first high-refractive-index layer (200a) may be formed on the upper portion of the second touch electrode (172).

[0084] Figures 7 to 9 are cross-sectional views of a display device according to another embodiment of the present invention. For example, Figures 7 to 9 schematically illustrate the path of incident external light and the path of light emitted from a first organic light-emitting diode in a display device according to an embodiment of the present invention.

[0085] Referring to FIGS. 7 to 9, a second light-blocking layer (183b) may be disposed on the first organic light-emitting diode (OLED1) so as to overlap at least a portion of the first organic light-emitting diode (OLED1), as well as the first touch electrode (171), the first light-blocking layer (183a), and the first high-refractive-index layer (200a). Specifically, a length (c1) of the second light-blocking layer (183b) in the first direction (e.g., the y direction or the -y direction) may be smaller than a length of the first opening (OP1) of the pixel defining film (119) in the first direction (e.g., the y direction or the -y direction). A metal light-blocking member (173) may be disposed within the second light-blocking layer (183b). For example, the second light-blocking layer (183b) may cover the metal light-blocking member (173). The metal shielding portion (173) may be a part of the first touch electrode (171) and the second touch electrode (172), but unlike the first touch electrode (171) or the second touch electrode (172), it may be grounded or used as a signal wire. The metal shielding portion (173) may be in direct contact with the second shielding layer (183b).

[0086] The metal shielding member (173) may include at least one of titanium (Ti), aluminum (Al), molybdenum (Mo), or copper (Cu). Specifically, the metal shielding member (173) may be provided in a structure in which titanium (Ti) and aluminum (Al) are laminated, a structure in which aluminum (Al) and molybdenum (Mo) are laminated, or a structure in which titanium (Ti) or copper (Cu) is laminated. However, the present invention is not limited thereto.

[0087] A second high refractive index layer (200b) may be disposed on the second light-blocking layer (183b) to overlap with the second light-blocking layer (183b). A length (d1) of the second high refractive index layer (200b) in a first direction (e.g., the y direction or the -y direction) may be longer than a length (c1) of the second light-blocking layer (183b) in the first direction (e.g., the y direction or the -y direction). The second high refractive index layer (200b) may be provided in the shape of a convex lens. In cross-section, the second high refractive index layer (200b) may have a convex upper surface. An overcoat layer (184) may be continuously disposed on the substrate (100) on the second high refractive index layer (200b). A refractive index of the second high refractive index layer (200b) may be greater than a refractive index of the overcoat layer (184).

[0088] When a second light-blocking layer (183b) and a second high-refractive-index layer (200b) having a convex lens shape and a higher refractive index than the overcoat layer (184) are disposed on a first organic light-emitting diode (OLED1), external light incident on the first organic light-emitting diode (OLED1) can be refracted at the convex upper surface of the second high-refractive-index layer (200b) and absorbed by the second light-blocking layer (183b). Since the second high-refractive-index layer (200b) is provided in the shape of a convex lens, the proportion of external light absorbed by the second light-blocking layer (183b) among the external light incident on the first organic light-emitting diode (OLED1) can be increased. In addition, as described above, external light incident on the S1 region or the S2 region can be refracted by the convex upper surface of the first high refractive index layer (200a) on the first light-blocking layer (183b) and absorbed by the first light-blocking layer (183a). Accordingly, external light incident on the display device is refracted by the first high refractive index layer (200a) and the second high refractive index layer (200b) and absorbed by the first light-blocking layer (183a) and the second light-blocking layer (183b), so that the reflectivity of external light incident on the display device is reduced and the visibility of the display device can be improved.

[0089] Even if the second light-blocking layer (183b) and the second high-refractive-index layer (200b) are disposed on the first organic light-emitting diode (OLED1), the light extraction efficiency of light emitted from the first organic light-emitting diode (OLED1) may not be affected. Specifically, under the second light-blocking layer (183b), the light emitted from the first organic light-emitting diode (OLED1) may be reflected by the metal light-blocking portion (173) within the second light-blocking layer (183b), reflected by the counter electrode (123) of the first organic light-emitting diode (OLED1), and emitted to the outside.

[0090] Among the light emitted from the first organic light-emitting diode (OLED1), light emitted in the S1 region or the S2 region may be refracted at the convex upper surface of the first high-refractive-index layer (200a) and emitted in the outward direction of the first organic light-emitting diode (OLED1). In other words, light emitted from the edge portion of the pixel electrode (121) of the first organic light-emitting diode (OLED1) may be refracted at the convex upper surface of the first high-refractive-index layer (200a), so that light may be emitted over a wide range, and the visibility of the display device may be improved.

[0091] While the present invention has been described with reference to the embodiments illustrated in the drawings, these are merely exemplary, and those skilled in the art will understand that various modifications and equivalent alternative embodiments are possible. Therefore, the true technical protection scope of the present invention should be determined by the technical spirit of the appended claims.
