AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing airbed systems fail to provide a customizable and efficient method for alternating pressure to effectively support and relieve pressure on users, particularly in terms of adjustable firmness levels and pressure cycles.

Method used

An alternate pressure mattress system featuring an air mattress with alternating air cells, a control housing that alternates the inflation and deflation of these cells based on selectable firmness levels, and a control unit that manages the pressure cycles, including equalization, inflation, deflation, and holding of specific pressures.

Benefits of technology

The system allows for precise control over pressure levels, providing customizable support and relief by alternating between high and low pressures, thereby enhancing user comfort and therapeutic effectiveness.

Abstract

An alternate pressure mattress system (100) comprising an air mattress (106) having a plurality of first air cells (118) and a plurality of second air cells (120). A control housing (202) is configured to exhaust air from within the air cells (108); deflate the plurality of first air cells (118) for a first predetermined period of time; inflate the plurality of second air cells (120) to a desire high pressure; deflate the plurality of first air cells (118) to a desired low pressure; hold the desired high pressure and the desired low pressure for a second predetermined period of time. The pressure within the air cells (108) may be alternated by swapping inflation and deflation of the plurality of first air cells (118) and the plurality of second air cells (120) and repeating the above steps. Methods of alternating the pressure within an air mattress (106) are described.
