Description

AUTOMATIC NUTRIENT-PROVIDING CULTIVATION DEVICEFIELD

[0001] The disclosure relates to a device for hydroponics, and more particularly to an automatic nutrient-providing cultivation device for hydroponics.BACKGROUND

[0002] Global food shortage is caused by several factors, including warfare and natural disasters brought by severe climate changes that cause dwindling harvests. Moreover, soil contamination and plant diseases also contribute to insufficient crop yields. While large-scale hydroponic factories are able to steadily provide agricultural produce regardless of climate or soil conditions, the construction cost of the factories is significant, so they are not widespread.

[0003] Referring to Figure 1, a conventional cultivation device 1 includes a box body 11, a front cover 12 openably disposed on the box body 11, a tray 13 that is removably disposed in a bottom portion of the box body 11, and a planting board 14 disposed on the tray 13 and formed with a plurality of spaced-apart holes 141.

[0004] To utilize the conventional cultivation device 1, water and a nutrient are added to the tray 13 and are mixed together, and a plurality of potted vegetable  sprouts (not shown) are disposed in the holes 141 of the planting board 14. The plurality of potted vegetable sprouts may then absorb the water as well as the nutrient and grow smoothly.

[0005] While costs are low for the conventional cultivation device 1, the user has to control the concentration of the nutrient and the timing of adding the nutrient to the tray 13. If the concentration of the nutrient is too high, the plurality of potted vegetable sprouts may suffer from nutrient antagonism; if the concentration of the nutrient is too low, or if the user forgets to add the nutrient, the plurality of potted vegetable sprouts may suffer from malnutrition. Hence, the user’s lack of experience greatly affects crop yields.SUMMARY

[0006] Therefore, an object of the disclosure is to provide an automatic nutrient-providing cultivation device that can alleviate at least one of the drawbacks of the prior art.

[0020] Referring to Figures 3 to 5, each of the positive displacement pumps 52 has a feed inlet 521 adapted to be connected with the respective one of the nutrient tubes 91, and a feed outlet 522 connected to the feed pipeline 53. The  feed pipeline 53 has two branches 531 connected respectively to the feed outlets 522 of the positive displacement pumps 52. When one of the positive displacement pumps 52 is activated, the nutrient 911 inside the respective one of the nutrient tubes 91 is drawn into the feed pipeline 53 through the feed outlet 522 of the respective one of the positive displacement pump 52. In this embodiment, each of the positive displacement pumps 52 is a peristaltic pump, and each of the branches 531 is a flexible tube that is bendable.

[0021] In this embodiment, each of the sensors 54 is adapted to detect a change in a thickness of a respective one of the nutrient tubes 91. The thickness of each of the nutrient tubes 91 reduces when the nutrient 911 inside is depleted, and each of the sensors 54 determines if the respective one of the nutrient tubes 91 has sufficient nutrient 911, or if replacement is necessary. In a variation of this embodiment, the sensors 54 may be respectively disposed at bottom ends of the nutrient tubes 91, and each of the sensors 54 may detect a change of length in a height direction (H) in the respective one of the nutrient tubes 91 that reduces when the nutrient 911 is drawn from the respective one of the nutrient tubes 91, and determine whether the respective one of the nutrient tubes 91 has sufficient nutrient 911, or if replacement is necessary. The height direction (H) is  perpendicular to the lengthwise direction (L) and the widthwise direction (W) . Moreover, each of the positive displacement pumps 52 draws a fixed amount of nutrient 911 in each cycle. In another variation of the embodiment, the sensors 54 may be omitted; instead, the replacement timing of each of the nutrient tubes 91 is determined by the number of cycles of the respective one of the positive displacement pumps 52 has gone through.

[0022] The liquid circulation unit 6 is connected to the tank 43 and the nutrient-providing unit 5, and includes a liquid pump 61 that is mounted in the tank 43, and a liquid pipeline 62 that is connected to the liquid pump 61 and that is connected to the feed pipeline 53, such that the nutrients 911 drawn from the nutrient tubes 91 flow into the liquid pipeline 62 via the feed pipeline 53 and is mixed with the liquid 93 drawn from the tank 43, and that a mixture of the nutrients 911 and the liquid 93 is dispensed into the tank 43. The liquid pump 61 is adapted to draw the liquid 93 contained in the tank 43. The liquid pipeline 62 has a submerged portion 621 extending into the tank 43 and connected to the liquid pump 61, an intermediate portion 622 extending from the submerged portion 621 and outwardly of the tank 43, and a mixing portion 623 extending from the intermediate portion 622 and above the tank 43, and has a distal end that is configured as an  outlet 624. The branches 531 of the feed pipeline 53 are connected to the mixing portion 623 of the liquid pipeline 62. The outlet 624 is adapted for dispensing the mixture of the nutrients 911 and the liquid 93 therethrough into the tank 43. In this embodiment, the liquid pump 61 is a submersible pump.

[0023] When the liquid pump 61 is activated, the liquid pump 61 draws the liquid 93 contained in the tank 43 into the liquid pipeline 62, and the positive displacement pumps 52 draw the nutrients 911 from the nutrient tubes 91 and into the liquid pipeline 62. Then, the nutrients 911 are mixed with the liquid 93 in the mixing portion 623 of the liquid pipeline 62, and the mixture of the liquid 93 and the nutrients 911 is dispensed in the tank 43 via the outlet 624, thereby creating a liquid circulation similar to that occurring in a natural environment. Specifically, the divider 431 is disposed between the outlet 624 of the liquid pipeline 62 and the liquid pump 61, and has a first end and a second end. The first end of the divider 431 is connected to an inner surface of the tank 43, and the second end is opposite to the first end. The mixture of the liquid 93 and the nutrients 911 dispensed through the outlet 624 flows in a direction from the first end to the second end of the divider 431, around the second end of the divider 431, and towards the liquid pump 61 (see Figure 4) . The divider 431 extends a flow path of the mixture of the liquid 93 and  the nutrients 911 by blocking the liquid 93 that is dispensed into the tank 43 from directly flowing to the liquid pump 61, reduces still water zones, and uniformly distributes flowing zones along the flow path, thereby allowing the nutrients 911 to quickly mix with the liquid 93 to form a more uniform mixture, instead of relying on diffusion, which is slow. It should be noted that the number, position, and orientation of the divider 431 may affect the distribution of flowing zones along the flow path, and may be adjusted in accordance to the positions of the outlet 624 and the liquid pump 61.

[0024] The control module 300 is mounted on the top seat 412 of the box unit 4, and is signally connected to and controls operation of the positive displacement pumps 52 and the liquid pump 61. The control module 300 includes a storage unit 31 for storing a plurality of cultivation parameters of different plant types, a control unit 32 signally connected to the storage unit 31, and a human-machine interface 33 signally connected to the control unit 32 and configured to receive an input signal of plant data of a type of plant. The human-machine interface 33 receives the input signal of plant data and outputs a control signal of the plant data. After the control unit 32 receives the control signal, the control unit 32 retrieves the cultivation parameters of the type of plant from the storage unit 31,  and controls runtime and running frequency of the positive placement pumps 52 and the liquid pump 61 to adjust concentration of the nutrients 911 in the tank 43 according to the cultivation parameters, thereby achieving the objective of automatically adding the nutrients 911 by the automatic nutrient-providing cultivation device, and preventing erroneous concentration of the nutrients 911 from being added. In this embodiment, the human-machine interface 33 is a control panel with a display that is mounted on an outside surface of the box unit 4, and is operable for inputting text, numbers, options, parameter settings, and reminders for example and is also operable for displaying temperature, humidity, date, time, inventory, energy consumption, itineraries, and light signals for example.

[0025] It should be noted that each of the positive displacement pumps 52 may be individually controlled by the control unit 32; therefore, under the circumstance where each of the nutrient tubes 91 contains a different nutrient 911, each of the positive displacement pumps 52 may be controlled to draw a different amount of the nutrient 911 from its respective nutrient tube 91, and each of the positive displacement pumps 52 may have a different drawing frequency.

[0026] Each of the sensors 54 is signally connected to the control module 300, and is adapted to sense a change in a shape of the respective one of the  nutrient tubes 91 and send a change value to the control module 300. The control module 300 is operable for sending out an alert. In this embodiment, since each of the nutrient tubes 91 is a flexible tube and is configured to be compressed, when the thickness of the nutrient tube 91 is reduced to a minimum level as the nutrient 911 is discharged the control module 300 sends an alert to remind the user to replace the nutrient tube 91.

[0027] In conclusion, the automatic nutrient-providing cultivation device operates the positive displacement pumps 52, draws the nutrients 911 from the respective nutrient tubes 91 into the liquid pipeline 62 through the feed pipeline 53, mixes the nutrients 911 with the liquid 93 that is drawn into the liquid pipeline 62 by the liquid pump 61, and dispenses the mixture of the nutrients 911 and the liquid 93 into the tank 43. The automatic nutrient-providing cultivation device automatically adds the nutrients 911 into the tank 43 and adjusts the concentration in a timely and regular manner, and prevents bad crop yield from erroneous dosages of the nutrients 911 or forgetting to add the nutrients 911, allowing the user to use the automatic nutrient-providing cultivation device with ease and collect good harvests, even if the user has no prior experience in growing crops. Hence, the objective of the disclosure is achieved.
