[0081] The above drawings illustrate specific embodiments of the present application, which will be described in more detail below. These drawings and the textual description are not intended to limit the scope of the present application in any way, but rather to illustrate the concepts of the present application to those skilled in the art by reference to specific embodiments. DETAILED DESCRIPTION
[0082] In order to make the objectives, technical solutions and advantages of this application clearer, the implementation methods of this application will be further described in detail below with reference to the accompanying drawings.
[0083] FIG1 is a schematic diagram of a top view of a display panel, and FIG2 is a schematic diagram of a cross-sectional structure of the display panel shown in FIG1 (the cross-sectional position is AA). Referring to FIG1 and FIG2 , the display panel 10 includes a display area 11 and an edge area 12 located outside the display area 11. The display area 11 includes a plurality of light-emitting units 111. The light-emitting units 111 can be used to emit light of various colors to realize the image display function. The light-emitting units 111 can include an anode 111a, a light-emitting layer 111b, and a cathode 111c. The anode 111a and the cathode 111c can drive the light-emitting layer 111b to emit light.
[0084] An encapsulation layer 13 is provided on the light emitting unit 111 . The encapsulation layer 13 may cover the light emitting unit 111 to encapsulate the light emitting unit 111 , thereby protecting the light emitting unit 111 and preventing the light emitting unit 111 from being corroded and damaged by external moisture.
[0085] A barrier dam 14 is provided in edge region 12 near the edge of display panel 11. No light-emitting units 111 are provided in edge region 113. However, in some display panel manufacturing processes, a light-emitting layer 111b is formed in edge region 12 and covers barrier dam 14. Barrier dam 14 can be used to prevent some film layers in display region 11 from diffusing into edge region 12 during the formation process. Barrier dam 14 can also be used to prevent external moisture from entering display region 11, reducing the risk of damage to light-emitting units 111 in display region 11 from external moisture.
[0086] However, in the above display panel, moisture may still penetrate into the display area 11 through the light-emitting layer in the edge area 12 and corrode and damage the light-emitting units 111 in the display area 11, resulting in a shorter lifespan of the display panel.
[0087] The embodiments of the present application provide a display panel that can solve some of the problems existing in the above-mentioned related technologies.
[0088] FIG3 is a schematic diagram of a top view of a display panel provided in an embodiment of the present application, and FIG4 is a schematic diagram of a cross-sectional structure of the display panel shown in FIG3 ( FIG4 is a schematic diagram of a cross-sectional structure taken at line BB in FIG3 ). Referring to FIG3 and FIG4 , the display panel 30 includes:
[0089] The substrate 31 has a display area q1 and an edge area q2 outside the display area q1 .
[0090] The first protruding structure 32 is located in the edge region q2 on the substrate 31 . The first protruding structure 32 includes a plurality of stacked film layers, including at least one metal layer m1 .
[0091] The light-emitting layer 33 is located on the side of the first protrusion structure 32 away from the substrate 31. The light-emitting layer 33 is located in the display area q1 and the edge area q2 on the substrate 31. The light-emitting layer 33 is disconnected on the first protrusion structure 32. As shown in Figure 4, the light-emitting layer 33 is disconnected at s on the first protrusion structure 32, thereby preventing external moisture (water and various gases) from invading the display area q1 of the display panel through the light-emitting layer 33.
[0092] The first encapsulation layer 34 is located on the side of the light emitting layer 33 away from the substrate 31. The encapsulation layer 34 can be used to encapsulate some structures in the display area q1 (such as the light emitting layer 33 in the display area q1) to prevent these structures from being affected by the external environment.
[0093] It should be noted that the light-emitting layer 33 being disconnected on the first protruding structure 32 may mean that the light-emitting layer 33 is separated by the first protruding structure 32 into two portions located on either side of the first protruding structure 32, with a gap between the two portions on the first protruding structure 32. This gap may separate the light-emitting layer 33 into a portion close to the display area q1 and another portion away from the display area q1 (FIG. 4 shows this structure). Alternatively, the light-emitting layer 33 being disconnected on the first protruding structure 32 may mean that the light-emitting layer 33 is terminated on the first protruding structure 32, that is, the edge of the light-emitting layer 33 may overlap the first protruding structure 32 and no longer extend away from the display area q1.
[0094] It should be noted that in Figure 3, the portion of the light-emitting layer 33 located in the display area q1 and the portion located in the edge area q2 are not connected. This is a schematic structure for the convenience of illustration, but does not limit the actual structure. That is, the portion of the light-emitting layer 33 located in the display area q1 and the portion located in the edge area q2 can be connected to each other.
[0095] To sum up, the embodiment of the present application provides a display panel, including a substrate, a first protruding structure, a light-emitting layer and an encapsulation layer. The first protruding structure is located in an edge area outside the display area, the light-emitting layer is located on the first protruding structure, and the light-emitting layer is disconnected on the protruding structure. In this way, external water vapor can be prevented from invading the display area of the display panel through the light-emitting layer, thereby reducing the risk of the display panel being damaged by external water vapor, solving the problem in the related art that the display panel has weak blocking ability against external water vapor, resulting in poor stability of the display panel, and achieving the effect of improving the life of the display panel.
[0096] In addition, since a metal mask plate is not required in the manufacturing process of the light-emitting layer in the display panel with this structure, the number of metal masks used in the manufacturing process can be reduced, thereby achieving the effect of reducing the manufacturing cost of the display panel.
[0097] Figure 5 is a schematic diagram of a film structure of the light-emitting layer shown in Figure 4. Please refer to Figures 4 and 5, wherein the light-emitting layer 33 includes an electroluminescent material layer 331 and a functional layer 332, and the functional layer 332 includes at least one of a hole injection layer (HIL), a hole transporting layer (HTL), an electron transporting layer (ETL), an electron injection layer (EIL) and a cathode layer c1.
[0098] The portion of the electroluminescent material layer 331 and the functional layer 332 in the light-emitting layer 33 located in the display region q1 can cooperate to achieve the light-emitting function. However, the portion of the electroluminescent material layer 331 and the functional layer 332 in the light-emitting layer 33 located in the edge region q2 may be a film layer formed in the edge region q2 due to process reasons. This portion of the film layer located in the edge region q2 may not be used to achieve the light-emitting function. In addition, the light-emitting layer 33 may also include two stacked cathode protection layers (CPL).
[0099] In the display region q1 of the display panel, the light-emitting layer 33 located in the display region q1 can constitute a light-emitting unit together with other structures (such as an anode and a driving circuit). The light-emitting units in the display region q1 can include multiple types to emit light of different colors. For example, the display region can be provided with one or more light-emitting units selected from the group consisting of a red light-emitting unit for emitting red light, a green light-emitting unit for emitting green light, a blue light-emitting unit for emitting blue light, and a white light-emitting unit for emitting white light. Each light-emitting unit can have a different light-emitting layer. When multiple light-emitting units are provided in the display region, the edge region q2 can also have multiple light-emitting layers of the multiple light-emitting units. These multiple light-emitting layers can be stacked in the edge region q2. In the display panel provided in the embodiment of the present application, the multiple stacked light-emitting layers in the edge region q2 can be partially or completely disconnected on the first protruding structure.
[0100] In addition, in the display panel provided in the embodiment of the present application, the light-emitting unit may include an organic light-emitting diode, and the structure of the light-emitting layer in the organic light-emitting diode may be as shown in Figure 5. In addition, in the display panel provided in the embodiment of the present application, the light-emitting unit may also include a tandem organic light-emitting diode (Tandem OLED), which is an OLED device formed by stacking multiple traditional OLED devices in series via a connecting layer. Correspondingly, the structure of the light-emitting layer will also be different.
[0101] Please refer to Figure 6, which is a schematic diagram of a top view of another display panel provided in an embodiment of the present application. The substrate in the display panel has multiple edges, such as the outer edge b1 of the substrate (the outer edge b1 is the outermost edge of the substrate, which defines the shape of the substrate). When the display panel includes an opening k, the substrate also has an edge b2 of the opening k. The edge area involved in the embodiment of the present application may include at least one of the opening edge area q21 and the substrate edge area q22. The opening edge area q21 is the area including the edge b2 of the opening k, and the substrate edge area q22 is the area including the outer edge b1 of the substrate. That is, the above-mentioned structure provided in the embodiment of the present application can be applied to at least one of the multiple edges in the display panel. Among them, the opening k can be a light-transmitting opening. When the display panel is used in a display device, some sensors (such as image sensors, infrared sensors, etc.) can be provided on the back of the display panel. These sensors can collect some information in the front direction of the display panel through the opening k.
[0102] Figure 7 is a schematic diagram of a cross-sectional structure of the display panel shown in Figure 6 (the cross-sectional position may be CC). Please refer to Figures 6 and 7. In an exemplary embodiment, the substrate edge area q22 of the substrate 31 of the display panel may have a first protruding structure 32, and the light-emitting layer 33 covering the first protruding structure 32 may be disconnected on the first protruding structure 32 to prevent moisture in the external environment from invading the interior of the display panel through the light-emitting layer 33 at the edge of the display panel, thereby achieving the effect of improving the life of the display panel.
[0103] In an exemplary embodiment, the display panel further includes a crack-blocking structure 35, which is located in the substrate edge region q22 and on the side of the first protruding structure 32 away from the display region q1. The crack-blocking structure 35 may include one or more crack-blocking blocks 351. These multiple crack-blocking blocks 351 can be used to block cracks in the various film layers in the substrate edge region q22 when the display panel is cut, thereby preventing the cracks from extending into the display region q1. This can improve the manufacturing yield of the display panel. In addition, the crack-blocking structure 35 can also have a certain moisture barrier capability to prevent external moisture from entering the display region q1 of the display panel. The crack-blocking structure 35 can be a co-layer structure with one or more planar layers in the display panel. It should be noted that the "A" and "B" involved in the embodiments of the present application are co-layer structures, which can mean that "A" and "B" are structures of the same material formed through a single patterning process. In addition, the patterning process involved in the embodiments of the present application may include processes such as forming photoresist, exposing, developing, etching, and stripping the photoresist.
[0104] In an exemplary embodiment, in the edge region q22 of the substrate, the light-emitting layer 33 may not be provided in the region q2a on the side of the first protruding structure 32 away from the display region q1. This can also prevent external moisture from invading the display region of the display panel through the light-emitting layer, thereby improving the display panel's ability to block external moisture. This portion of the light-emitting layer 33 can be removed by a patterning process or a laser process. When the light-emitting layer on the top of the first protruding structure 32 is removed by a patterning process, the light-emitting layer in the region on the side of the first protruding structure 32 away from the display region q1 can be removed at the same time. Figure 7 shows a structure in which the light-emitting layer 33 is not provided in the region q2a, but the light-emitting layer 33 may also be provided in the region q2a, and this embodiment of the present application is not limited to this.
[0105] FIG8 is another schematic diagram of a cross-sectional structure of the display panel shown in FIG6 (the cross-sectional position may be at DD). Please refer to FIG6 and FIG8. In another exemplary embodiment, the opening edge area q21 of the display panel may have a first protruding structure 32, and the light-emitting layer 33 covering the first protruding structure 32 may be disconnected on the first protruding structure 32 to prevent moisture in the external environment from invading the display area q1 of the display panel through the light-emitting layer 33 at the edge of the opening of the display panel substrate, thereby improving the life of the display panel. FIG8 shows a structure in which the light-emitting layer 33 is provided in the area q2a on the side of the first protruding structure 32 away from the display area q1, but the light-emitting layer 33 may not be provided in the area q2a. In addition, the structure shown in FIG8 may also include the crack blocking structure 35 shown in FIG7, which is not limited in the embodiment of the present application.
[0106] In an exemplary embodiment, please refer to FIG9 , which is another cross-sectional structural schematic diagram of the display panel shown in FIG6 (the cross-sectional position may be CC or DD) according to the embodiment of the present application. The display panel further includes an edge organic material layer 352, which covers the crack blocking structure 35. The edge organic material layer 352 can have a crack blocking capability and can cooperate with the crack blocking structure 35 to further enhance the crack blocking capability of the display panel, reduce the spread of edge cracks into the display area of the display panel, and thereby improve the manufacturing yield of the display panel. The edge organic material layer 352 can be a co-layer structure with the pixel definition layer composed of organic materials in the display panel.
[0107] In an exemplary embodiment, the multiple film layers stacked in the first protrusion structure may include other film layers in addition to the metal layer. For example, the first protrusion structure may include at least one of an organic layer and an inorganic layer. In addition, the number of first protrusion structures 32 may be one or more. When there are at least two first protrusion structures 32, the film layers included in the at least two first protrusion structures 32 may include at least one of the following three structures:
[0108] 1) Metal layer and inorganic layer;
[0109] 2) Metal layer and organic layer;
[0110] 3) Metal layer, organic layer and inorganic layer.
[0111] Figure 9 shows that there are two first protrusion structures 32, one of which includes a metal layer m1 and an organic layer m3, and the other includes a metal layer m1 and an inorganic layer m2. However, this embodiment of the present application is not limited to this structure. The metal layer m1, inorganic layer m2, and organic layer m3 included in the first protrusion structure 32 can each be one or more layers. These layers can be stacked to form the first protrusion structure 32 on the substrate.
[0112] Furthermore, the film layers included in the first protruding structure 32 may be formed independently through a single patterning process, or may be formed simultaneously with the formation of other film layers. For example, the metal layer m1 may be formed in a single patterning process when forming other metal layers of the display panel, the inorganic layer m2 may be formed in a single patterning process when forming other inorganic layers of the display panel, and the organic layer m3 may be formed in a single patterning process when forming other organic layers of the display panel.
[0113] Since the metal layer has the characteristics of structural firmness and stability, the metal layer is provided in the first protruding structure 32 to increase the structural stability of the first protruding structure 32 .
[0114] In an exemplary embodiment, the display panel may include at least one of metal film layers such as a metal blocking layer located on a substrate 31, a first gate metal pattern (gate1), a second gate metal pattern (gate2), a third gate metal pattern (gate3), a first source-drain metal pattern (SD1), a second source-drain metal pattern (SD2), and a third source-drain metal pattern (SD3).
[0115] For example, a display panel provided in an embodiment of the present application includes a first gate metal pattern (gate1), a second gate metal pattern (gate2), a third gate metal pattern (gate3), a first source-drain metal pattern (SD1), a second source-drain metal pattern (SD2), and a third source-drain metal pattern (SD3).
[0116] Another display panel includes a first gate metal pattern (gate1), a second gate metal pattern (gate2), a third gate metal pattern (gate3), a first source-drain metal pattern (SD1), and a second source-drain metal pattern (SD2).
[0117] Another display panel includes a first gate metal pattern (gate1), a second gate metal pattern (gate2), a first source-drain metal pattern (SD1), and a second source-drain metal pattern (SD2).
[0118] Another display panel includes a first gate metal pattern (gate1), a second gate metal pattern (gate2), a first source-drain metal pattern (SD1), a second source-drain metal pattern (SD2), and a third source-drain metal pattern (SD3).
[0119] These metal film layers can be used to form various circuits and structures in the display panel. Exemplarily, the metal shielding layer can be used to shield some structures in the display panel (such as the active layer, etc.) to prevent these structures from being affected by factors such as light. In addition, a pixel array for display is provided in the display area q1, and the pixel array includes a plurality of pixel units arranged in an array, and each pixel unit includes a driving circuit and a light-emitting unit and other structures. The driving circuit may include structures such as a thin film transistor and a storage capacitor. The thin film transistor includes an active layer, a gate, a gate insulating layer, an interlayer insulating layer and a source-drain electrode (including a source and a drain) sequentially arranged on a substrate. The storage capacitor includes a first plate and a second plate. For example, the first plate is provided in the same layer as the gate, and the second plate is between the gate insulating layer and the interlayer insulating layer.
[0120] The first gate metal pattern may include a first electrode plate and a gate of a thin film transistor, the second gate metal pattern may include a second electrode plate, the third gate metal pattern may include a gate of a thin film transistor, at least one of the first source-drain metal pattern and the second source-drain metal pattern may include a source-drain electrode of a thin film transistor, and the third source-drain metal pattern may also include a source-drain electrode of a thin film transistor.
[0121] The metal layer m1 in the first protruding structure 32 may include at least one of a first metal layer m11, a second metal layer m12, a third metal layer m13, a fourth metal layer m14, a fifth metal layer m15, a sixth metal layer (not shown) and a seventh metal layer (not shown).
[0122] The first metal layer m11 is co-layered with the metal blocking layer, and thus the first metal layer m11 can be formed simultaneously with the metal blocking layer. The second metal layer m12 is co-layered with the first gate metal pattern, and thus the second metal layer m12 can be formed simultaneously with the first gate metal pattern. The third metal layer m13 is co-layered with the second gate metal pattern, and thus the third metal layer m13 can be formed simultaneously with the second gate metal pattern. The fourth metal layer m14 can be co-layered with the third gate metal pattern, and thus the fourth metal layer m14 can be formed simultaneously with the third gate metal pattern. The fifth metal layer m15 can be co-layered with the first source / drain metal pattern, and thus the fifth metal layer m15 can be formed simultaneously with the first source / drain metal pattern. The sixth metal layer is co-layered with the second source / drain metal pattern, and thus the sixth metal layer can be formed simultaneously with the second source / drain metal pattern. The seventh metal layer is co-layered with the third source / drain metal pattern, and thus the seventh metal layer can be formed simultaneously with the third source / drain metal pattern. In this way, the first protruding structure 32 can be formed without increasing the number of patterning processes.
[0123] In addition, the number of metal layers included in the first metal layer m11 and which metal layers it includes can be determined based on the height of the first protruding structure 32. For example, when the height of the first protruding structure 32 is relatively large, the first metal layer m11 can include a larger number of metal layers, such as four or five metal layers. When the height of the first protruding structure 32 is relatively small, the first metal layer m11 can include a smaller number of metal layers, such as one or two metal layers. In addition, the thicknesses of the metal film layers, such as the metal shielding layer, the first gate metal pattern (gate1), the second gate metal pattern (gate2), the first source / drain metal pattern (SD1), and the second source / drain metal pattern (SD2), may not be equal. Therefore, when the height of the first protruding structure 32 is to be reduced, the metal film layer with the smaller thickness among these metal film layers can be selected to form the first protruding structure 32. When the height of the first protruding structure 32 is to be increased, the metal film layer with the larger thickness among these metal film layers can be selected to form the first protruding structure 32. In short, the height of the first protruding structure 32 can be adjusted and controlled by selecting different metal layers and the number of metal layers.
[0124] In an exemplary embodiment, the first protrusion structure 32 is defined by a top surface s1, a bottom surface s2, and a side surface s3. The top surface s1 is located on the side of the bottom surface s2 away from the substrate 31. The light-emitting layer 33 includes a first opening p1 located on the top surface s1. The first opening p1 allows the light-emitting layer 33 to be disconnected from the first protrusion structure 32.
[0125] The first opening p1 can be formed in a variety of ways. In one embodiment, the light-emitting layer 33 located on the top surface s1 of the first protruding structure can be etched through a patterning process to form the first opening p1. Furthermore, when etching the light-emitting layer 33 through the patterning process, the film layer below the light-emitting layer 33 can be overetched to ensure that the light-emitting layer 33 on the top surface s1 of the first protruding structure is removed. The thickness of the overetched film layer below the light-emitting layer 33 can range from 3% to 8%.
[0126] In the embodiment of the present application, the patterning process for the light-emitting layer in the edge region may also be referred to as an edge etch mask (EEM) process. This edge patterning process can be used to remove part of the light-emitting layer in the edge region to enhance the display panel's ability to block external moisture.
[0127] In an exemplary embodiment, at least one metal layer includes a target metal layer mb, the edge of which protrudes from the first protruding structure 32 in a direction parallel to the substrate 31. The target metal layer mb may protrude from the first protruding structure 32 at one end in a direction f1 from the edge region q2 toward the display region q1, or at both ends in the direction f1. The target metal layer mb protruding from the first protruding structure 32 may form a barrier structure on the side of the first protruding structure 32 to further enhance the first protruding structure's ability to block moisture from the external environment.
[0128] The target metal layer mb can be manufactured using an undercut process. Furthermore, the target metal layer mb can be located within the first raised structure 32 of any display panel provided in the embodiments of the present application. In some exemplary embodiments, when the first raised structure 32 includes multiple metal layers, one or more of the metal layers can be the target metal layer mb that protrudes from the edge of the first raised structure. When a first raised structure 32 includes multiple target metal layers mb, the barrier effect of the first raised structure 32 against moisture in the external environment can be further enhanced.
[0129] In addition, the target metal layer mb can be any one of the first metal layer, second metal layer, third metal layer, fourth metal layer, fifth metal layer, sixth metal layer and seventh metal layer involved in the above embodiments. Correspondingly, the target metal layer mb can be the same layer structure as any one of the metal structures including the metal blocking layer, the first gate metal pattern, the second gate metal pattern, the third gate metal pattern, the first source and drain metal pattern and the second source and drain metal pattern. In this way, the target metal layer mb can be formed without increasing the number of composition processes.
[0130] In the display panel provided in the embodiment of the present application, the substrate 31 may include multiple stacked film layers. Exemplarily, a substrate 31 may include a first substrate layer b1, a second substrate layer b2, a third substrate layer b3 and a fourth substrate layer b4. The first substrate layer b1 and the third substrate layer b3 may be polyimide (PI) layers, and the second substrate layer b2 and the fourth substrate layer b4 may be inorganic buffer layers.
[0131] The substrate 31 and the second encapsulation layer 39 may also include a first buffer layer b5, a first gate insulation layer b6, a second gate insulation layer b7, an intermediate dielectric layer b8 and a passivation layer b9. Some of these film layers and some of the film layers in the substrate 31 can be used to jointly constitute a first protruding structure.
[0132] Referring to Figures 6 and 9 , the first protrusion structure 32 is defined by a top surface s1, a bottom surface s2, and a side surface s3. The top surface s1 is located on the side of the bottom surface s2 away from the substrate 31. The light-emitting layer 33 includes a first opening p1 located on the top surface s1. This first opening p1 allows the light-emitting layer 33 to be disconnected from the first protrusion structure 32.
[0133] In addition, the first opening p1 can be formed in a variety of ways. One way is to form the first opening p1 on the light-emitting layer 33 through a composition process, that is, the portion of the light-emitting layer 33 on the top surface s1 of the first protruding structure 32 can be removed through an etching process in the composition process to form the first opening p1 on the light-emitting layer 33 on the top surface s1 of the first protruding structure 32.
[0134] In addition, since the first opening p1 is located on the top surface s1 of the first protruding structure 32 and is higher than other locations in the edge region q2 of the display panel, the difficulty of forming the first opening p1 through a patterning process can be reduced.
[0135] The display panel may further include a second encapsulation layer 39, which is located on a side of the light-emitting layer 33 away from the substrate 31. The second encapsulation layer 39 has an encapsulation layer opening fk, and the orthographic projection of the encapsulation layer opening fk on the substrate 31 overlaps with the orthographic projection of the first opening p1 on the substrate 31. A first encapsulation layer 34 is located on a side of the second encapsulation layer 39 away from the substrate 31, and covers the encapsulation layer opening fk. The second encapsulation layer 39 may be an encapsulation layer for encapsulating the light-emitting units in the display panel, thereby protecting the light-emitting units from damage from the external environment.
[0136] Optionally, the light-emitting layer 33 includes multiple sub-light-emitting layers located in the display area; the display panel includes multiple light-emitting units, the light-emitting units include electrodes and sub-light-emitting layers, the electrodes are in contact with the sub-light-emitting layers to drive the sub-light-emitting layers to emit light; the second encapsulation layer 39 is located on the side of the multiple light-emitting units away from the substrate 31 to encapsulate the multiple light-emitting units.
[0137] It should be noted that the encapsulation layer opening fk on the second encapsulation layer 39 can be formed simultaneously with the formation of the first opening p1 on the light-emitting layer 33 through a patterning process. This is due to process reasons of the patterning process. After the second encapsulation layer 39 of the light-emitting unit in the display panel is formed, the second encapsulation layer 39 and the portion of the light-emitting layer 33 located on the first protruding structure 32 are etched through the patterning process to form the first opening p1 on the light-emitting layer 33. The encapsulation layer opening fk on the second encapsulation layer 39 can be covered by the first encapsulation layer 34 to prevent external moisture from entering the display panel through the encapsulation layer opening fk. In addition, because the portion of the second encapsulation layer 39 located in the edge area can be adjusted through the etching process, a metal mask is not required when forming the second encapsulation layer 39. This can reduce the number of metal masks used in the display panel manufacturing process, thereby reducing the manufacturing cost of the display panel.
[0138] Wherein, the second encapsulation layer 39 can be a composite film layer composed of multiple film layers. Exemplarily, the second encapsulation layer 39 can be a thin film encapsulation layer (The Film Encapsulation, TFE). Exemplarily, the second encapsulation layer 39 can include a first inorganic encapsulation layer 391, an organic encapsulation layer 393 and a second inorganic layer 392 stacked in sequence in a direction away from the substrate 31, wherein the first inorganic encapsulation layer 391 and the second inorganic encapsulation layer 392 can be formed by a chemical vapor deposition (Chemical Vapor Deposition, CVD) process, and the organic encapsulation layer 393 can be formed by inkjet printing (Ink Jet Printing, IJP) technology. The organic encapsulation layer 393 has fluidity, and one function of the first protruding structure 32 is to limit the organic encapsulation layer 393 to prevent the organic encapsulation layer 393 from flowing to the edge of the substrate 31. The first inorganic encapsulation layer 391 and the second inorganic layer 392 in the second encapsulation layer 39 can cover the first protruding structure 32, but the organic encapsulation layer 393 may not cover the first protruding structure 32. In addition, the thickness of one or more film layers in the second encapsulation layer 39 can be reduced so that an encapsulation layer opening fk can be formed in the second encapsulation layer 39 through a patterning process. The thickness of the second inorganic layer can be reduced by 40% to 80% based on the conventional thicknesses of the first and second inorganic layers.
[0139] The first encapsulation layer 34 may be another encapsulation layer in the display panel except the second encapsulation layer 39. A first encapsulation layer 34 may include an inorganic buffer layer 341 and an inorganic interlayer dielectric layer 342.
[0140] Exemplarily, the display panel further includes a touch structure (not shown in FIG. 9 ), which is located on the side of the second encapsulation layer 39 away from the substrate 31. A first encapsulation layer 34 is located on the side of the touch structure away from the substrate 31 to encapsulate the touch structure. Specifically, the first encapsulation layer 34 serves as the touch encapsulation layer for the touch structure. This first encapsulation layer 34 covers the encapsulation layer opening fk in the second encapsulation layer 39. This eliminates the impact of the encapsulation layer opening fk in the second encapsulation layer 39, which is created during the patterning process to form the first opening p1 in the light-emitting layer 33, without adding an additional encapsulation layer.
[0141] The display panel provided in the embodiment of the present application may also include some other film layers, such as a flat layer b10 and an organic layer b11. The flat layer b10 may be located on the side of the first encapsulation layer 34 away from the substrate 31, and the organic layer b11 may be located on the side of the flat layer b10 away from the substrate 31.
[0142] 6 and 9 , the multiple film layers stacked in a first protrusion structure 32 may include a metal layer m1 and an inorganic layer m2, wherein the inorganic layer m2 may include at least one of a first inorganic layer m21, a second inorganic layer m22, a third inorganic layer m23, a fourth inorganic layer m24, and a fifth inorganic layer m25. FIG. 9 illustrates a structure including the first inorganic layer m21, the second inorganic layer m22, the third inorganic layer m23, the fourth inorganic layer m24, and the fifth inorganic layer m25, but is not intended to be limiting.
[0143] The display panel may also include a first buffer layer (buffer) b5, a first gate insulating layer (GI1) b6, a second gate insulating layer (GI2) b7, an interlayer dielectric layer (ILD) b8 and a passivation layer (PVX) b9, which are arranged in sequence on the substrate 31. Some or all of these film layers may be inorganic layers.
[0144] In an exemplary embodiment, the first inorganic layer m21 and the first buffer layer b5 are of the same layer structure, and thus the first inorganic layer m21 can be formed simultaneously when the first buffer layer b5 is formed; the second inorganic layer m22 and the first gate insulating layer are of the same layer structure, and thus the second inorganic layer m22 can be formed simultaneously when the first gate insulating layer is formed; the third inorganic layer m23 and the second gate insulating layer are of the same layer structure, and thus the third inorganic layer m23 can be formed simultaneously when the second gate insulating layer is formed; the fourth inorganic layer m24 and the interlayer dielectric layer are of the same layer structure, and thus the third inorganic layer m24 can be formed simultaneously when the interlayer dielectric layer is formed; the fifth inorganic layer m25 and the passivation layer are of the same layer structure, and thus the fifth inorganic layer m25 can be formed simultaneously when the passivation layer is formed. Of course, in another structure, the first inorganic layer m21 can be a buffer layer; the second inorganic layer m22 can be the same layer structure as the first gate insulation layer; the third inorganic layer m23 can be the second gate insulation layer; the fourth inorganic layer m24 can be an interlayer dielectric layer; and the fifth inorganic layer m25 can be a passivation layer.
[0145] In addition, please refer to Figure 10, which is another cross-sectional schematic diagram of Figure 6 provided in an embodiment of the present application (the cross-sectional position may be CC or DD), wherein the edge area may include two first protruding structures, one of which may include a metal layer, an inorganic layer and an organic layer m3, and the other may include a metal layer and an inorganic layer.
[0146] Similar to the above embodiment, the metal layer may include at least one of a first metal layer m11, a second metal layer m12, a third metal layer m13, a fourth metal layer m14, a fifth metal layer m15, a sixth metal layer and a seventh metal layer, and the first metal layer m11 may be a co-layer structure with the metal blocking layer, and further, when the metal blocking layer is formed, the first metal layer m11 may be formed simultaneously; the second metal layer m12 may be a co-layer structure with the first gate metal pattern, and further, when the first gate metal pattern is formed, the second metal layer m12 may be formed simultaneously; the third metal layer m13 may be a co-layer structure with the second metal layer m14, and further, when the first gate metal pattern is formed, the second metal layer m13 may be formed simultaneously; The gate metal pattern is a co-layer structure, and thus, when forming the second gate metal pattern, the third metal layer m13 can be formed simultaneously. The fourth metal layer m14 can be a co-layer structure with the third gate metal pattern, and thus, when forming the third source / drain metal pattern, the fourth metal layer m14 can be formed simultaneously. The fifth metal layer m15 can be a co-layer structure with the first source / drain metal pattern, and thus, when forming the first source / drain metal pattern, the fifth metal layer m15 can be formed simultaneously. The sixth metal layer can be a co-layer structure with the second source / drain metal pattern, and thus, when forming the second source / drain metal pattern, the sixth metal layer can be formed simultaneously. The seventh metal layer is a co-layer structure with the third source / drain metal pattern, and thus, when forming the third source / drain metal pattern, the seventh metal layer can be formed simultaneously. In this way, the first protruding structure 32 can be formed without increasing the number of patterning processes.
[0147] Among them, the inorganic layer may include at least one of a first inorganic layer m21, a second inorganic layer m22, a third inorganic layer m23, a fourth inorganic layer m24 and a fifth inorganic layer m25. Figure 10 shows a structure including a first inorganic layer m21, a second inorganic layer m22, a third inorganic layer m23, a fourth inorganic layer m24 and a fifth inorganic layer m25, but is not limited to this. The display panel may also include a first buffer layer (buffer) b5, a first gate insulating layer (GI1) b6, a second gate insulating layer (GI2) b7, an interlayer dielectric layer (ILD) b8 and a passivation layer (PVX) b9 sequentially arranged on the substrate 31, and some or all of these film layers may be inorganic layers. For details, please refer to the display panel shown in Figure 9 above, and the embodiments of the present application will not be repeated here.
[0148] FIG11 is another schematic cross-sectional structure diagram of the display panel shown in FIG6 (the cross-sectional position may be CC or DD). Please refer to FIG6 and FIG11 , wherein the number of the first protruding structures 32 is at least two, and the at least two first protruding structures 32 include two adjacent first protruding structures 32. The two adjacent first protruding structures 32 may be arranged in a direction close to the display area, and the light-emitting layer 33 is disconnected on the two first protruding structures 32, and the first openings p1 on the two first protruding structures 32 may be connected to form a larger first opening p1. In this way, the size of the first opening p1 formed by the disconnection of the light-emitting layer 33 can be expanded by multiple adjacent first protruding structures 32, thereby increasing the display panel's ability to block external moisture, thereby further improving the service life of the display panel.
[0149] The display panel also includes a filling structure 36, which is located between and in contact with two adjacent first protrusion structures 32. The filling structure 36 includes an organic material layer. The organic material layer is flexible and bendable. Therefore, the placement of the filling structure 36 between two adjacent first protrusion structures 32 improves the bendability of the edge region and reduces the possibility of fracture in the edge region.
[0150] In an exemplary embodiment, the filling structure 36 may include one or more organic material layers. These one or more organic material layers may be co-layered with some organic material layers in the display panel. For example, the display panel may include a first planar layer (PLN1), a second planar layer (PLN2), and a pixel definition layer (PDL). Furthermore, the filling structure 36 may include at least one of a first organic material layer 361, a second organic material layer 362, and a third organic material layer 363. The first organic material layer 361 may be co-layered with the first planar layer, thereby allowing the first organic material layer 361 to be formed simultaneously with the first planar layer; the second organic material layer 362 may be co-layered with the second planar layer, thereby allowing the second organic material layer 362 to be formed simultaneously with the second planar layer; and the third organic material layer 363 may be co-layered with the pixel definition layer, thereby allowing the third organic material layer 363 to be formed simultaneously with the pixel definition layer. This allows the first protruding structure 32 to be formed without increasing the number of patterning processes.
[0151] In addition, the number of organic material layers included in the filling structure 36 can be determined by the thickness of the filling structure 36. In an exemplary embodiment, the top of the filling structure 36 can be flush with the tops of the two first protruding structures 32 on both sides. The thickness of the filling structure 36 and the number of organic material layers included in the filling structure 36 can be determined based on this.
[0152] The above embodiment shows a schematic diagram of the structure of a display panel including a first protruding structure in the edge region. However, in the display panel provided in the embodiment of the present application, other protruding structures may also be included in the edge region. For example, FIG12 is another schematic diagram of the cross-sectional structure of the display panel shown in FIG6 (the cross-sectional position may be CC or DD). Please refer to FIG6 and FIG12, wherein the display panel further includes at least one second protruding structure 37. The second protruding structure 37 is located in the edge region q2 and is composed of at least one organic layer. The light-emitting layer 33 is located on the substrate 31 formed with the second protruding structure 37, and the light-emitting layer 33 is disconnected on the second protruding structure 37. A second protruding structure 37 may include at least one of a first layer 371, a second layer 372, and a third layer 373. The first layer 371 may be co-layered with the first planar layer, allowing the first layer 371 to be formed simultaneously with the first planar layer. The second layer 372 may be co-layered with the second planar layer, allowing the second layer 372 to be formed simultaneously with the second planar layer. The third layer 373 may be co-layered with the pixel definition layer, allowing the third layer 373 to be formed simultaneously with the pixel definition layer. This allows the second protruding structure 37 to be formed without increasing the number of patterning processes.
[0153] Similar to the first raised structure 37, the light-emitting layer 33 can also be disconnected on the second raised structure 37. This disconnection can mean that the light-emitting layer 33 is divided by the second raised structure 37 into two portions located on either side of the second raised structure 37. These two portions are separated by a gap on the second raised structure 37. This gap can separate the light-emitting layer 33 into a portion close to the display area q1 and another portion further away from the display area q1. This increases the display panel's ability to block external moisture, further extending the display panel's service life.
[0154] The display panel provided in the embodiments of the present application may include a first protruding structure 32 and a second protruding structure 37. As disclosed in some of the above embodiments, the first protruding structure 32 may have a variety of structures, and first protruding structures of different structures may include different materials, but the second protruding structure 37 may be a protruding structure including only organic materials. Since organic materials have flexibility and bendability, a second protruding structure 37 including only organic materials is provided in the edge area q2 of the display panel. This can improve the flexibility of the edge area q2 and reduce the possibility of breakage in the edge area q2, thereby improving the service life of the display panel.
[0155] A display panel provided in an embodiment of the present application may include at least one first protruding structure 32 and at least one second protruding structure 37. These first protruding structures 32 and second protruding structures 37 may be arranged in various forms in the edge region of the display panel. For example, when the number of the first protruding structure 32 and the second protruding structure 37 is 1, the second protruding structure 37 may be located on the side of the first protruding structure 32 close to the display region q1. In this structure, the organic encapsulation layer 393 may be adjacent to the second protruding structure 37, and the orthographic projection of the organic encapsulation layer 393 on the substrate 31 may at least partially overlap with the orthographic projection of the second protruding structure 37 on the substrate 31. In this structure, the second protruding structure 37 may prevent the fluid organic encapsulation layer 393 from overflowing during the manufacturing process of the display panel.
[0156] Alternatively, the second protrusion structure 37 may be located on a side of the first protrusion structure 32 away from the display area q1, with the first protrusion structure 32 functioning as a barrier to the overflow of the fluid organic encapsulation layer 393. When the number of both the first protrusion structure 32 and the second protrusion structure 37 is two, the two first protrusion structures 32 and the two second protrusion structures 37 may be alternately arranged in the edge region of the display panel. When the number of both the first protrusion structure 32 and the second protrusion structure 37 is one and two, the two second protrusion structures 37 may be located on either side of the first protrusion structure 32.
[0157] For other film layer structures in FIG. 12 , reference can be made to other embodiments of the present application and will not be described in detail here.
[0158] Figure 13 is another schematic diagram of the cross-sectional structure of the display panel shown in Figure 6 (the cross-sectional position may be at CC or DD). Please refer to Figure 6 and Figure 13. In the display panel shown in Figure 13, the edge area q2 includes at least two first protruding structures 32, one of which may be adjacent to the organic encapsulation layer 393, and the orthographic projection of the organic encapsulation layer 393 on the substrate 31 may at least partially overlap with the orthographic projection of the first protruding structure 32 on the substrate 31. Under such a structure, the first protruding structure 32 may prevent the fluid organic encapsulation layer 393 from overflowing during the manufacturing process of the display panel.
[0159] For other film layer structures in FIG. 13 , reference can be made to other embodiments of the present application and will not be described in detail here.
[0160] The above embodiments show some structural schematic diagrams of the edge region of the display panel including the first convex structure and the second convex structure, but the display panel provided by the embodiment of the present application may also include other convex structures. For example, FIG14 is another cross-sectional structural schematic diagram of the display panel shown in FIG6 (the cross-sectional position may be CC or DD). Please refer to FIG6 and FIG14. The display panel also includes at least one third convex structure 38. The third convex structure 38 is located in the edge region q2 on the substrate 31. The third convex structure 38 is composed of a metal layer (such as one metal layer or multiple metal layers). At least one side of the third convex structure 38, the first side j1 close to the display region q1 and the second side j2 away from the display region q1, has a concave structure. FIG14 shows that both sides have a concave structure, forming a structure similar to an I-shaped structure (the third convex structure 38 of this structure can be formed by stacking three metal layers), but the embodiment of the present application is not limited to this. The light-emitting layer 33 is located on the substrate 31 formed with the third convex structure 38, and the light-emitting layer 33 is disconnected at the concave structure of the third convex structure 38. In this way, moisture in the external environment can be prevented from invading the interior of the display panel through the light-emitting layer 33 , thereby improving the display panel's ability to block moisture from the outside, thereby further increasing the service life of the display panel.
[0161] That is, the display panel can also include a raised structure composed solely of a metal layer. This third raised structure 38 can serve as a spacer. Compared to the first raised structure 32, which includes a metal layer and other inorganic and organic layers, the third raised structure 38 is composed solely of a metal layer. Furthermore, due to the structural strength and stability of the metal layer, the third raised structure 38 can further enhance the strength and stability of the raised structure compared to the first raised structure 32.
[0162] The number of the third protrusion structures 38 can be one or more. When the number of the third protrusion structures is multiple, the multiple third protrusion structures 38 can be respectively located on both sides of the first protrusion structure 32 (the two sides can refer to the side close to the display area q1 and the other side away from the display area q1).
[0163] In addition, in an exemplary embodiment, the light-emitting layer 33 may be disconnected on the third protrusion structure 38. This disconnection may mean that the light-emitting layer 33 is divided by the third protrusion structure 38 into two portions located on either side of the third protrusion structure 38. A gap exists between the two portions on the third protrusion structure 38. This gap can separate the light-emitting layer 33 into a portion close to the display area q1 and another portion away from the display area q1. This increases the display panel's ability to block external moisture, further extending the display panel's service life.
[0164] In FIG14 , a first protruding structure 32 and a second protruding structure may also be included. Other structures such as the first protruding structure 32 and the second protruding structure may refer to the above embodiments, and the embodiments of the present application will not be described in detail here.
[0165] It should be noted that in the display panel provided by the embodiment of the present application, the first opening p1 of the light-emitting layer located at the top of the first raised structure can be an opening surrounding the edge region. Depending on the edge region, the shape of the first opening p1 will also vary. For example, when the edge region is the substrate edge region, the first opening p1 can be an opening surrounding the display region. When the edge region is the aperture edge region, the first opening p1 can be an opening surrounding the aperture on the substrate. For example, Figure 15 is an enlarged structural schematic diagram of a portion of the display panel shown in Figure 6. To clearly illustrate the first opening p1, some film layers above the light-emitting layer 33 are not shown in Figure 15. In Figure 15, u represents the area occupied by the light-emitting unit. As can be seen from Figure 15, the first opening p1 surrounds the aperture k on the substrate 31, forming an annular opening. This can completely surround the aperture k on the substrate, preventing moisture from the external environment from entering the display region q1 through the light-emitting layer 33 at the aperture k, further improving the display panel's ability to block moisture from the external environment and increasing the life of the display panel.
[0166] In the display panel provided in the embodiment of the present application, the disconnected structure on the light-emitting layer can also be formed by other methods. For example, a portion of the light-emitting layer located on the first protruding structure can be removed by laser so that the light-emitting layer can be disconnected on the first protruding structure.
[0167] FIG16 is a schematic diagram of another cross-sectional structure of the display panel shown in FIG6 (the cross-sectional position may be CC or DD). Please refer to FIG6 and FIG16 , wherein the display panel further includes a second encapsulation layer. Second encapsulation layer 39 is located between first encapsulation layer 34 and light-emitting layer 33. Second encapsulation layer 39 covers first opening p1 in the light-emitting layer. Because laser light can pass through second encapsulation layer 39, after forming second encapsulation layer 39, without forming an encapsulation layer opening in second encapsulation layer 39, the portion of the light-emitting layer located on the first protrusion structure 32 can be removed by laser light passing through the second encapsulation layer.
[0168] The second encapsulation layer 39 may be an encapsulation layer for encapsulating the light-emitting units in the display panel. The second encapsulation layer 39 may be used to protect the light-emitting units in the display panel and prevent the light-emitting units in the display panel from being damaged by the external environment.
[0169] The light-emitting layer 33 includes multiple sub-light-emitting layers located in the display area. The display panel includes multiple light-emitting units, each of which includes electrodes and sub-light-emitting layers. The electrodes contact the sub-light-emitting layers to drive the sub-light-emitting layers to emit light. The second encapsulation layer 39 is located on the side of the multiple light-emitting units away from the substrate 31 to encapsulate the multiple light-emitting units. In other words, the second encapsulation layer is an encapsulation layer for the light-emitting units.
[0170] In addition, the first encapsulation layer 34 is located on the side of the second encapsulation layer 39 away from the substrate 31. This first encapsulation layer 34 can be another encapsulation layer in the display panel in addition to the second encapsulation layer 39. For example, the display panel also includes a touch structure, which is located on the side of the second encapsulation layer 39 away from the substrate 31. The first encapsulation layer 34 is located on the side of the touch structure away from the substrate 31 to encapsulate the touch structure. In other words, the first encapsulation layer 34 is the touch encapsulation layer of the touch structure.
[0171] The display panel in FIG16 may include a first protruding structure 32. The structure of the first protruding structure 32 may be described with reference to other figures and embodiments of the present application and will not be described in detail here. Furthermore, the display panel may also include a second protruding structure and a third protruding structure. The structures of the second protruding structure and the third protruding structure may be described with reference to other figures and embodiments of the present application and will not be described in detail here.
[0172] FIG17 is a schematic diagram of another cross-sectional structure of the display panel shown in FIG6 (the cross-sectional position may be CC or DD). Please refer to FIG6 and FIG17 , in which the light-emitting layer 33 further includes a second opening p2, and the orthographic projection of the second opening p2 on the substrate 31 is located between the orthographic projections of two adjacent first protrusion structures 32 among the at least two first protrusion structures 32 on the substrate 31. In other words, a disconnected structure can also be formed on the light-emitting layer 33 in the area between the first protrusion structures 32 to further enhance the display panel's ability to block moisture from the external environment, thereby extending the life of the display panel.
[0173] The second opening p2 can be formed in various ways. In one embodiment, the second opening p2 can be formed by etching the light emitting layer 33 located between the first protruding structures 32 through a patterning process. Alternatively, the second opening p2 can be formed through a laser process.
[0174] The contents of other film layers in FIG17 can be referred to other figures and embodiments provided in the embodiments of the present application, and will not be repeated here.
[0175] FIG18 is another schematic diagram of the cross-sectional structure of the display panel shown in FIG6 (the cross-sectional position may be CC or DD), please refer to FIG6 and FIG18, wherein the first protruding structure 32 is surrounded by a top surface s1, a bottom surface s2, and a side surface, wherein the top surface s1 is located on the side of the bottom surface away from the substrate, and the side surface includes a first side surface s31 close to the display area q1 and a second side surface s32 away from the display area q1, and the light-emitting layer 33 is located on the first side surface s31 and is not located on the top surface s1 and the second side surface s32. Under this structure, the distance between the edge of the light-emitting layer located in various edge areas of the substrate (such as the edge area of the opening and the edge area of the substrate) and the various edges of the substrate (such as the edge of the opening of the substrate and the outer edge of the substrate) can be increased to further enhance the display panel's ability to block moisture in the external environment, thereby enhancing the life of the display panel.
[0176] The display panel in FIG18 may include a first protruding structure 32. The structure of the first protruding structure 32 may be described in detail in other figures and embodiments of the present application and will not be described in detail here. Furthermore, the display panel may also include a second protruding structure and a third protruding structure. The structures of the second protruding structure and the third protruding structure may be described in detail in other figures and embodiments of the present application and will not be described in detail here.
[0177] To sum up, the embodiment of the present application provides a display panel, including a substrate, a first protruding structure, a light-emitting layer and an encapsulation layer.
[0178] FIG19 is a flow chart of a method for manufacturing a display panel provided in an embodiment of the present application. The method can be used to manufacture the display panel provided in the above embodiment. The method may include the following steps:
[0179] Step 1801: Obtain a substrate, wherein the substrate has a display area and an edge area outside the display area.
[0180] Step 1802: forming a first protruding structure, a light-emitting layer, and a first encapsulation layer on the substrate.
[0181] Among them, the first raised structure is located in the edge area of the substrate, the first raised structure includes multiple stacked film layers, and the multiple film layers include at least one metal layer; the light-emitting layer is located on the side of the first raised structure away from the substrate, and the light-emitting layer is located in the display area and the edge area, and the light-emitting layer is disconnected on the first raised structure; the first encapsulation layer is located on the side of the light-emitting layer away from the substrate.
[0182] In summary, an embodiment of the present application provides a method for manufacturing a display panel, wherein the display panel manufactured by this method includes a substrate, a first protruding structure, a light-emitting layer and an encapsulation layer, wherein the first protruding structure is located in an edge area outside the display area, the light-emitting layer is located on the first protruding structure, and the light-emitting layer is disconnected on the protruding structure, thereby preventing external water vapor from invading the display area of the display panel through the light-emitting layer, reducing the risk of the display panel being damaged by external water vapor, and solving the problem in related technologies that the display panel has weak blocking ability against external water vapor, resulting in poor stability of the display panel, thereby achieving the effect of improving the life of the display panel.
[0183] The method for manufacturing a display panel provided in an embodiment of the present application can disconnect the light-emitting layer on the first protrusion structure in a variety of ways. In one way, step 1802 may include:
[0184] 1) A first protrusion structure is formed on a substrate.
[0185] The structure of the first protrusion structure can be various, and the details can be referred to some of the above embodiments, which will not be described here.
[0186] 2) forming a light-emitting layer on the substrate having the first protrusion structure formed thereon.
[0187] The light-emitting layer can be formed by a process such as evaporation, and the light-emitting layer can be located in the display area and the edge area on the substrate. The light-emitting layer located in the display area can cooperate with other structures to form a light-emitting unit to realize the display function of the display panel.
[0188] The specific structure of the light-emitting layer can be referred to FIG5 and the corresponding embodiment, which will not be described in detail here.
[0189] 3) forming a light-emitting layer opening on the light-emitting layer by a laser process, so that the light-emitting layer is disconnected on the first protruding structure.
[0190] The orthographic projection of the light emitting layer opening on the substrate overlaps with the orthographic projection of the first protruding structure on the substrate. A portion of the light emitting layer on the first protruding structure can be removed by laser processing to disconnect the light emitting layer on the first protruding structure.
[0191] 4) Forming a second encapsulation layer on the light-emitting layer.
[0192] The second encapsulation layer can be an encapsulation layer for the light-emitting unit in the display panel, and a touch structure and an encapsulation layer for the touch structure can be formed on the second encapsulation layer. In this way, the light-emitting layer can be processed before forming the second encapsulation layer so that the light-emitting layer is disconnected on the first protrusion structure.
[0193] FIG20 is a flow chart of another method for manufacturing a display panel provided in an embodiment of the present application. The method can be used to manufacture the display panel provided in the above embodiment. The method may include the following steps:
[0194] Step 1901: Obtain a substrate having a display area and an edge area outside the display area.
[0195] The substrate can be manufactured through a backplane manufacturing process. For example, as shown in Figure 9, a substrate 31 may include a first substrate layer b1, a second substrate layer b2, a third substrate layer b3 and a fourth substrate layer b4. The first substrate layer b1 and the third substrate layer b3 may be polyimide layers, and the second substrate layer b2 and the fourth substrate layer b4 may be inorganic buffer layers.
[0196] Step 1902: forming a first protruding structure on the substrate.
[0197] The specific structure of the first protrusion structure can refer to some of the above embodiments. For example, as shown in FIG9 , when there are at least two first protrusion structures 32 , the film layer included in the at least two first protrusion structures 32 includes at least one of the three structures. The three structures include:
[0198] 1) Metal layer and inorganic layer;
[0199] 2) Metal layer and organic layer;
[0200] 3) Metal layer, organic layer and inorganic layer.
[0201] In addition, in step 1902 , a second protrusion structure and a third protrusion structure may be formed. The specific structures of the second protrusion structure and the third protrusion structure may refer to the above embodiments and will not be described in detail here.
[0202] Step 1903: forming a light-emitting layer on the substrate having the first protrusion structure formed thereon.
[0203] The light-emitting layer can be formed by a process such as evaporation, and the light-emitting layer can be located in the display area and the edge area on the substrate. The light-emitting layer located in the display area can cooperate with other structures to form a light-emitting unit to realize the display function of the display panel.
[0204] The specific structure of the light-emitting layer can be referred to FIG5 and the corresponding embodiment, which will not be described in detail here.
[0205] Furthermore, when forming the light-emitting layer, an open mask is not required, and the light-emitting layer can be formed in the display area and edge areas (such as the substrate edge area and the opening edge area). This can reduce one mask in the display panel manufacturing process, thereby reducing the manufacturing cost of the display panel.
[0206] Step 1904: forming a second encapsulation layer on the substrate having the light-emitting layer formed thereon.
[0207] The second encapsulation layer can be an encapsulation layer of the light-emitting unit in the display panel. In addition, the edge of the second encapsulation layer can cover the edge of the light-emitting layer in the edge area to prevent moisture in the external environment from invading the interior of the display panel through the light-emitting layer.
[0208] The specific structure of the second encapsulation layer can be referred to the above embodiment and will not be described again here.
[0209] Step 1905: forming a target opening on the second packaging layer and the light-emitting layer by an etching process, so that the light-emitting layer is disconnected on the first protruding structure.
[0210] The orthographic projection of the target opening on the substrate overlaps with the orthographic projection of the first protruding structure on the substrate. In this approach, to prevent the etching process from affecting certain structures in the display panel, the second encapsulation layer and the portion of the light-emitting layer located on top of the first protruding structure can be etched away after the second encapsulation layer is formed, thereby disconnecting the light-emitting layer from the first protruding structure.
[0211] Step 1906 : forming a first packaging layer on a side of the second packaging layer away from the substrate, wherein the first packaging layer covers the target opening.
[0212] The first encapsulation layer can cover the opening formed by the etching process in the second encapsulation layer to prevent moisture from entering the display panel through the opening. The first encapsulation layer can be the encapsulation layer of the touch structure in the display panel. This allows the opening in the second encapsulation layer to be sealed without increasing the size of the encapsulation layer.
[0213] In summary, an embodiment of the present application provides a method for manufacturing a display panel, wherein the display panel manufactured by this method includes a substrate, a first protruding structure, a light-emitting layer and an encapsulation layer, wherein the first protruding structure is located in an edge area outside the display area, the light-emitting layer is located on the first protruding structure, and the light-emitting layer is disconnected on the protruding structure, thereby preventing external water vapor from invading the display area of the display panel through the light-emitting layer, reducing the risk of the display panel being damaged by external water vapor, and solving the problem in related technologies that the display panel has weak blocking ability against external water vapor, resulting in poor stability of the display panel, thereby achieving the effect of improving the life of the display panel.
