AI Technical Summary
Technical Problem
Current technologies face challenges in efficiently converting ethanol into medium distillates like diesel and kerosene, particularly in maximizing yield and valorizing undesirable compounds from the dehydration stage.
Method used
A process involving dehydration of an ethanol load to produce ethylene and C3+ compounds, followed by two stages of oligomerization, with the C3+ compounds being valorized through heterogeneous oligomerization, resulting in an increased yield of medium distillate olefins.
Benefits of technology
This process enhances the yield of medium distillate olefins by approximately 0.5 to 10% of the carbon yield, economically valorizing initially undesirable compounds, and improving the overall efficiency of ethanol conversion.

Abstract
The present invention relates to a method for producing middle distillate hydrocarbon bases from an alcohol feedstock, the method comprising the following steps: a) dehydrating the alcohol feedstock, and obtaining at least one dehydration effluent comprising: - at least 80% by weight ethylene, relative to the total weight of the dry effluent; - compounds having at least three carbon atoms, wherein the dehydration step is carried out in the presence of an amorphous acid or zeolite acid catalyst; b) separating the dehydration effluent obtained in step a) and obtaining at least: - one fraction essentially comprising ethylene; - a fraction essentially comprising compounds having at least three carbon atoms; c) oligomerising at least one portion of the fraction essentially comprising ethylene obtained from step b) and obtaining at least one olefin effluent comprising at least 80% by weight olefins having a number of carbon atoms greater than or equal to four, relative to the total weight of the olefins contained in the olefin effluent, wherein the oligomerisation step is carried out in the presence of a homogeneous catalyst; d) oligomerising at least: - one portion of the effluent from step c); - a portion of the fraction essentially comprising compounds having at least three carbon atoms obtained from step b); - and obtaining a middle distillate effluent, wherein the oligomerisation step is carried out in the presence of an amorphous or zeolite heterogeneous catalyst; e) fractionating the middle distillate effluent obtained from step d).
