Abstract
Description
Thermoplastic resin composition and molded article manufactured therefrom
[0001] The present invention relates to a thermoplastic resin composition and a molded article manufactured therefrom, and more particularly, to a thermoplastic resin composition used in molding using a long fiber injection molding (LFI) method and a molded article manufactured by molding the composition using the LFI method.
[0002] Styrenic resins, represented by acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer (ABS) resin, are widely used in various applications due to their excellent formability, mechanical properties, appearance, and secondary processability.
[0003] Molded products manufactured using styrene resins can be widely applied to various products requiring painting / unpainting, such as interior / exterior materials for automobiles and electronic devices.
[0004] In particular, in line with the trend of lightweighting automobiles, a technology is being noted that manufactures extruded sheets using ABS resin and molds them using the LFI method to increase the rigidity of the molded product, thereby replacing the steel plates used in automobile exterior parts such as hoods.
[0005] However, when applying the above technology, in most cases, the remaining amount or some pieces of the extruded sheet left over after manufacturing the molded product are recycled and used as raw materials for manufacturing the extruded sheet again. However, during this process, during the repetitive high-temperature extrusion sheet molding process, some of the double bonds of the butadiene rubber in the ABS resin are broken and cross-linked with each other, so that they do not melt and disperse properly during the extruded sheet molding process and remain as foreign substances on the surface of the extruded sheet, which can cause appearance defects. In the past, in order to prevent the cross-linking of the butadiene rubber, inorganic substances such as magnesium oxide (MgO) were added. However, in this case, pinholes due to inorganic substances such as magnesium oxide were formed on the surface of the molded product, making it difficult to achieve a high appearance.
[0006] Accordingly, there is a need for a thermoplastic resin composition that maintains excellent physical properties, appearance characteristics, and moldability even after going through multiple molding processes without using inorganic substances such as magnesium oxide.
[0007] The present invention provides a thermoplastic resin composition useful for molding using the LFI method, which has excellent heat resistance, fluidity and impact resistance, and shows little change in appearance and physical properties even after multiple molding processes, and a molded article manufactured therefrom.

[0078] The thermoplastic resin composition according to the present invention can be manufactured by a known method for manufacturing a thermoplastic resin composition.
[0079] For example, the thermoplastic resin composition according to the present invention can be manufactured in the form of pellets by mixing the components of the present invention and other additives and then melt-kneading them in an extruder.
[0080] A molded article according to one embodiment of the present invention can be manufactured through a molding method using a long fiber injection molding (LFI) method from the thermoplastic resin composition described above.
[0081] In one embodiment, a molded product is provided by extruding a thermoplastic resin composition in pellet form as a raw material through a sheet extruder, or by vacuum-forming a co-extruded sheet co-extruded with another resin composition through a sheet extruder, and then manufacturing the same using an LFI method.
[0082] The LFI method is a method of forming a molded product having the shape of a desired part by vacuum forming an extruded sheet or a co-extruded sheet, and then spraying a mixture of polyurethane resin and glass fiber on the opposite side (or inside) of the molded product where the exterior is not exposed to provide rigidity. Since the thermoplastic resin composition, which is the raw material for manufacturing the extruded sheet or co-extruded sheet, is repeatedly reused, the thermoplastic resin composition must have little change in appearance and physical properties even after going through multiple molding processes to be able to be formed using the LFI method. As described above, the thermoplastic resin composition of the present invention has little change in appearance and physical properties even after going through multiple molding processes, and thus is able to be formed using the LFI method.
[0083] Hereinafter, the present invention will be described in more detail through examples and comparative examples. However, the following examples and comparative examples are for the purpose of explanation and are not intended to limit the present invention.
[0084] Examples 1 to 3 and Comparative Examples 1 and 2

[0087] The components listed in Table 1 were dry mixed and quantitatively and continuously fed into the feed section of a twin-screw extruder (L / D=44, Φ=45 mm) to melt / knead. Subsequently, the thermoplastic resin composition pellets manufactured through the extruder were dried at about 80°C for about 4 hours, and then a 6 oz. injection molding machine was used to manufacture specimens for measuring impact resistance and heat resistance by setting the cylinder temperature to about 230°C and the mold temperature to about 60°C.
[0088] Meanwhile, for evaluation of extrusion appearance and vacuum formability, dried thermoplastic resin composition pellets were manufactured into sheets having a width of about 300 mm and a thickness of about 2 mm using a single-screw extruder equipped with a T-die at a barrel temperature of about 230°C.

[0109] (5) Vacuum formability after re-extrusion
[0110] The thermoplastic resin composition pellets manufactured through a twin-screw extruder were fed back into the twin-screw extruder and re-extruded to produce an extruded sheet using a single-screw extruder equipped with a T-die, and these were cut into a size of 300 mm x 300 mm x 2 mm to manufacture a specimen for evaluating vacuum formability. The specimen for evaluating vacuum formability was heated with a non-contact 400℃ hot plate for 30 seconds, placed in a vacuum forming mold, and vacuumed at a pressure of 2 kPa for 12 seconds, and then cooled to room temperature for 6 seconds to evaluate vacuum formability. The evaluation criteria for vacuum formability are shown in Fig. 2. If the blown size from the bottom was 15 cm or more and vacuum forming was performed well, vacuum formability was marked as ○. If the blown size was less than 15 cm or ruptured during vacuum forming, vacuum formability was marked as ×.

On the other hand, the thermoplastic resin composition of Comparative Example 1, which did not use an oil containing a triglyceride structure, showed deterioration in physical properties after re-extrusion, and both the appearance of the extruded sheet and the vacuum formability after re-extrusion were poor. In addition, the thermoplastic resin composition of Comparative Example 2, which used magnesium oxide, showed good physical properties and vacuum formability after re-extrusion, but the appearance of the extruded sheet after re-extrusion was poor.
