Abstract
A water filter comprises a filter cartridge and a water filter unit. The water filter unit comprises a receptacle, housing the filter cartridge, and a head assembly removably attached to the receptacle. The head assembly comprises a water inlet, a water outlet, a working mode fluid path connecting the water inlet to the water outlet via the filter cartridge, a service mode fluid path connecting the water inlet to the water outlet such that all or substantially all water flowing into the water inlet bypasses the filter cartridge and instead flows directly to the water outlet. A switch mechanism allows the head assembly to be switched between a working mode, in which water flows along the working mode fluid path and through the filter cartridge, and a service mode in which water flows along the service mode fluid path to bypass the filter cartridge thereby allowing the head assembly to be removed from the receptacle without any or substantially any water spilling from the head assembly.
