Method for manufacturing a heat-sealable packaging material arranged with at least one latex barrier with high GEL content

A method using styrene butadiene or styrene acrylate latex with high gel content and low glass transition temperature is applied to form a dispersion barrier layer that reduces blocking and enhances barrier properties, while ensuring the product is recyclable and suitable for packaging applications.

Abstract

The invention relates to a method for of manufacturing a dispersion barrier coated heat-sealable packaging material. The method comprises applying a dispersion barrier composition comprising a latex on a paperboard web. The dispersion barrier composition comprises a latex having a glass transition temperature of less than 20 ºC and a gel content of at least 50%. The invention enables the manufacturing of a dispersion barrier coated paperboard with improved barrier properties and an increased blocking resistance.
