Abstract
A lightweight closure includes a top wall having an internal surface and an external surface having an elevated portion and a lower portion; an annular side wall having internal and external surfaces; interrupted thread segments extending radially inward from and concentric with the internal surface of the side wall, each of the interrupted thread segments having an upper surface and a lower surface, wherein each of the interrupted thread segments includes a cavity in the lower surface; intermittent rib segments around the external surface of the side wall, each rib segment having a first portion extending from the external surface of the side wall, a second portion extending from the external surface of the top wall, and a transition portion joining the first and second portions; and wherein the second portion of each rib segment extends across the lower portion of the top wall toward the elevated portion.
