Electrically insulated fixation element

Abstract

An apparatus includes an electrically conductive housing configured to be implanted beneath a skin portion of a recipient's body. The housing includes at least one orifice configured to receive at least one fixation element. The apparatus further includes at least one electrically insulative and biocompatible layer on the housing. The at least one layer is configured to electrically insulate the housing from tissue and / or fluid of the recipient's body. The apparatus further includes at least one sleeve extending at least partially within the at least one orifice and over the at least one layer. The at least one sleeve is electrically conductive, electrically insulated from the housing by the at least one layer, and configured to receive the at least one fixation element.
