AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Urea fertilizers suffer from significant nitrogen loss due to ammonia volatilization and leaching, which is catalyzed by the enzyme urease, leading to reduced effectiveness and potential plant poisoning, especially in hot environments or high pH soils.

Method used

The production of monocarbamide dihydrogen sulfate (MCDHS) is integrated in situ during the production of superphosphate urea fertilizer, forming calcium tetraurea sulfate to inhibit urease activity, ensuring nitrogen retention by controlling sulfuric acid addition based on phosphate rock calcium content.

Benefits of technology

This method stabilizes nitrogen content in urea superphosphate fertilizers, preventing ammonia loss and enhancing nitrogen availability for plants, thereby improving crop productivity.

Abstract

The invention provides a method for obtaining monocarbamide dihydrogen sulphate in situ during production of a urea superphosphate (USP) fertiliser in which the urea is protected by the urease inhibitor monocarbamide dihydrogen sulphate, such that the urea superphosphate fertiliser maintains the nitrogen input thereof, preventing nitrogen losses in the form of ammonia. Using this method, monocarbamide dihydrogen sulphate is produced in situ in the same reactor and simultaneously with the urea superphosphate fertiliser.
