Abstract

Process is disclosed for the production of a metal matrix composite foam, which contains hollow aluminum oxide spheres in an AlSi12(Fe) alloy matrix. In the process for producing the metal matrix composite foam, the aluminum oxide sphere reinforcing material is embedded in a controlled structure provided by a wax -based positioning grid. The wax is heated and burned out, then an AlSi12(Fe) matrix material is pressed in under high pressure and in an inert atmosphere.
