Abstract
An article for insertion into a non-combustible aerosol provision device to generate an aerosol includes an aerosol-generating material section comprising aerosol-generating material. An upstream body of material upstream of the aerosol-generating material section can have a resistance to draw which is greater than the resistance to draw through the length of the aerosol-generating material section. The hardness of the article measured at the upstream body of material can be less than 85%. A first cylindrical element can be arranged upstream of the aerosol-generating material section and a second cylindrical element downstream of the aerosol-generating material section, where the first and second cylindrical elements each have a diameter which is equal to or greater than the diameter of the aerosol-generating material section. A first section of the article can include the aerosol-generating material section and a cylindrical element downstream of the aerosol-generating material section and a second section can include a downstream body of material downstream of the first section. The first and second sections can be connected by an outer wrapper which surrounds at least a portion of each of the first and second sections and which does not surround the aerosol-generating material. There is also provided a corresponding system and method. A non-combustible aerosol provision device of the system can include a heating element for insertion into the aerosol-generating material section of the article. The average force required to insert the heating element into each millimetre of length of the body of material can be higher than the average force required to insert the heating element into each millimetre of length of the aerosol-generating material section. The force required to insert the article into the device for the first time for each millimetre of the last 10 mm of the insertion depth can change by less than 300 grams force.
