Embodiments of the present disclosure provide a method and related apparatuses for managing network connections. A first node receives a first establishment request from a second node. In response to receiving the first establishment request, the first node configures a first control and management (C / M) serving gateway to establish a first forwarding rule. The first establishment request includes a request to establish the first forwarding rule for a first connection between a device and a third node. The first C / M serving gateway is connected to the third node on a C / M plane. Upon receiving the first establishment request, the first node configures the first C / M serving gateway to establish the first forwarding rule for the first connection, thereby ensuring that a pre-condition is met for activating the first connection between the device and the third node.
