The method comprises: selecting multiple portions of phase liquid crystals having different or identical phase states, adding an additive and a photosensitizer, and mixing same to form a liquid crystal mixture; applying the liquid crystal mixture onto a substrate having an alignment layer to form an initial liquid crystal film; volatilizing the additive contained in the initial liquid crystal film, and the additive affecting molecular movement of the multiple portions of the phase liquid crystals during the volatilization, to form a cholesteric liquid crystal film having a gradually varying pitch; and performing ultraviolet curing treatment on the cholesteric liquid crystal film under the action of the photosensitizer to obtain a polarization volume holographic grating.
