A method for reducing oscillations and / or noise during operation of an elevator motor (202). A motor controller (204) and an elevator system (200) are also disclosed. The method comprising determining (1010) a speed (141) of the elevator motor (202), controlling (1020) the speed (141) by a motor controller (204) based on a speed reference (102) of the elevator motor (202), and adjusting (1030) a proportional gain (101) of the motor controller (204), for example of a frequency converter or of an inverter, based on the speed (141) during running of the elevator motor (202).
