Method and system for the determination of mental and physical effects of drugs and the like on a person

Abstract

A method and apparatus determining mental, physical and other neurological effects on a patient or person as a result of the taking of drugs, whether for medicinal or recreative purposes, and due to substance abuse. The preferred embodiments are intended to assist in the determination of short term and long term effects and in assisting in mitigating these. The method and apparatus provide for: generating a set of cognitive and motor tasks to be performed by a person and presenting the tasks to a person on a portable electronic device (12), which device comprises at least a display (16); sensing at least one of a three-dimensional reactive movement of the person in response to the set tasks; determining from the at least one sensed movement of the person a measure of cognitive function and a measure of motor function; comparing the measure of cognitive function to a cognitive function threshold; comparing the measure of motor function to a motor function threshold; determining from the measures of cognitive and motor function and the comparisons thereof to the cognitive and motor thresholds a state of a patient and therefrom effects on the patient from the administered drug or other substance.
