AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing motor vehicle command systems, including those with Brake-By-Wire technology, suffer from ergonomic and intuitive issues in controlling speed and braking, often requiring simultaneous use of multiple controls and lacking intuitive differentiation between acceleration and braking functions.

Method used

A command system with a rotatable command knob integrated into the handlebar, where angular positions determine braking or propulsion forces through a processing unit, allowing distinct and intuitive control without additional actuators.

🎯Benefits of technology

Provides a more ergonomic and intuitive control method by associating braking or propulsion forces with angular positions, enhancing user convenience and reducing the need for multiple control inputs.

Abstract

A method of controlling a command system (1 ) of a vehicle, in particular a motor vehicle, the command system (1) being of the type comprising at least a braking assembly, configured to exert a braking force on the vehicle; a driving handlebar (2); a command knob (3), rotatably connected to the driving handlebar (2) relative to a rotation axis (4), so as to take a plurality of angular positions, wherein the command knob (3) is actuatable in rotation by a driver of the vehicle; a rotation sensor (5), configured to detect the angular position assumed by the command knob (3) relative to the driving handlebar (2); an electronic processing unit (6), operatively connected to the braking assembly and to the rotation sensor (5), and configured to perform the control method of the command system (1 ), wherein the command knob (3) is configured to take, in the absence of external stresses, a fixed and predetermined angular rest position (θR) relative to the driving handlebar (2), wherein the command knob (3) is rotatable relative to the angular rest position (θR), and relative to the driving handlebar (2) and about the rotation axis (4) at least in a negative rotation direction (B), so as to take a negative angular position (θB), the control method comprising the step of exerting a braking force on the vehicle, by means of the braking assembly, upon the detection, by means of the at least one rotation sensor (5), of the positioning of the command knob (3) in a negative angular position (θB).
