Abstract
Provided are an alkaline battery containing zinc or a zinc alloy as a negative electrode active material and having excellent load characteristics, and a method for producing the alkaline battery. An alkaline battery according to the present invention is characterized by comprising a negative electrode provided with a negative electrode active material layer containing zinc or a zinc alloy as a negative electrode active material, a positive electrode containing silver(I) oxide as a positive electrode active material, and a separator, wherein a zinc oxide-containing layer is provided between the negative electrode active material layer and the separator, and the mass ratio of zinc oxide contained in the zinc oxide-containing layer to the total amount of Zn in the negative electrode active material is 1 to 10 mass%. A method for producing an alkaline battery according to the present invention is characterized by comprising a step for laminating a negative electrode active material layer, a zinc oxide-containing layer containing zinc oxide, and a separator, wherein the mass ratio of the zinc oxide contained in the zinc oxide-containing layer to the total amount of Zn in the negative electrode active material is 1 to 10 mass%.
