AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing vehicle lighting devices irradiate unnecessary light (glare) onto the road surface, which reduces visibility and risks misrecognition of the drawing pattern.

Method used

A vehicle lighting device with a reflector, inner lens, and projection lens configuration that includes control protrusions to direct unnecessary light away from the projection area, using internal reflections and extensions to shield unwanted light, ensuring only the desired light forms the drawing pattern.

Benefits of technology

Suppresses unnecessary light irradiation, enhancing the visibility and clarity of the drawing pattern by controlling light direction and ensuring high luminance and uniform brightness.

Abstract

This vehicle lamp comprises: a light source for emitting light; a reflector for reflecting, in a light-converging direction, light emitted from the light source; a projection lens having a projecting part that projects, as a rendering pattern, light emitted from the light source; and an inner lens having a pattern formation incident surface on which a portion of the light reflected by the reflector is incident, a pattern formation emission surface from which the light incident on the pattern formation incident surface is emitted toward the projecting part, and an inclined surface that is capable of internally reflecting light reflected by the reflector and that is inclined with respect to the pattern formation emission surface. The inner lens is provided with a pair of control protrusions that are positioned so as to be continuous across both sides of the pattern formation incident surface and that control the incident light so to be directed further outward than the outer periphery of the projecting part.
