A communication method and apparatus, which enable monitoring over the delay condition of each segment on a transmission path. The method comprises: a first node generating a first message, which is used for bearing target data, wherein a transport layer header or a network layer header of the first message comprises time information of target data at one or more nodes from an initial node to a first node on a transmission path, and the one or more nodes comprise the first node; and sending the first message to a second node, wherein the second node is a node subsequent to the first node on the transmission path. In the embodiments of the present application, time information regarding a node generating a message may be carried by means of a transport layer header or a network layer header, thereby enabling monitoring over the delay condition of each segment on a transmission path, and thus better ensuring the QoS of a service.
