Description

[0001] A HERBICIDAL COMBINATION

[0002] FIELD OF THE DISCLOSURE:

[0003] The present disclosure relates to a herbicidal combination comprising a carbamate herbicide and a diphenyl ether herbicide. Furthermore, the present disclosure relates to a method for controlling weeds by applying an effective amount of the herbicidal combination thereof.

[0004] BACKGROUND OF THE DISCLOSURE:

[0005] Herbicides are chemical substances, which are used to control unwanted plants / weeds. The mode of action for herbicides is a biochemical or a physical mechanism, which disrupts or alters one or more of the metabolic processes of the unwanted plants / weed, thereby controlling their growth. Therefore, when and how any herbicide should be applied may be determined by the mode of action of the herbicide.

[0006] Furthermore, there are certain species or groups of unwanted plants / weeds, which are susceptible to certain herbicides and not susceptible to certain herbicides. This may be because either the herbicides use different biochemical pathways, or the herbicides have slightly different enzymes. In situations, when one herbicide is ineffective, additional herbicide(s) with different modes of action may provide better results.

[0007] Herbicidal combinations usually have some disadvantages. They have none or insufficient herbicidal activity against specific unwanted plants / weeds, the spectrum of unwanted plants / weeds which can be controlled with the herbicides is not broad enough, the selectivity and compatibility of the herbicides with crops is too low, thereby causing unwanted damage and / or reduced yield of the crops, the initial herbicidal activity is not acceptable or not strong enough, and / or the herbicidal activity does not last long enough. For these reasons, there is a constantneed to develop herbicidal combinations which overcome the aforementioned disadvantages. There also exists a need for an environmentally safe herbicidal combination that can selectively control unwanted plants / weeds, while leaving other plants and crops unharmed.

[0008] OBJECTIVES OF THE DISCLOSURE:

[0009] It is a primary objective of the present disclosure to provide a herbicidal combination for controlling or preventing unwanted plants / weeds in crops.

[0010] It is another objective of the present disclosure to provide a herbicidal combination for efficient weed control, weed suppression and weed eradication.

[0011] It is another objective of the present disclosure to provide a herbicidal combination possessing enhanced efficacy over the individual herbicides.

[0012] It is yet another objective of the present disclosure to provide a herbicidal combination comprising highly effective herbicidal actives for selective and non-selective weed control.

[0013] It is another objective of the present disclosure to provide a herbicidal combination comprising highly effective herbicidal actives for an efficient bum-down program.

[0014] It is yet another objective of the present disclosure to provide a herbicidal combination to control, suppress or prevent a wide spectrum of weeds comprising both dicotyledonous and monocotyledonous, broad-leaved, and grassy weeds.

[0015] It is yet another objective of the present disclosure to provide a herbicidal combination which is safe to use, effective and can be applied pre-emergence, postemergence or at the time of sowing.It is another objective of the present disclosure to provide a herbicidal combination achieving increased yield in the crops to which they are applied, by reducing the number of weeds in the crops.

[0016] It is an objective of the present disclosure to provide a method of controlling or killing weeds with a herbicidal combination or a composition comprising such a combination.

In other embodiments, two or more components of a kit may be packaged separate from one another, i.e., they are not pre-formulated. As such, a kit may include one or more separate containers such as vials, cans, bottles, pouches, bags and / or canisters, each container containing a separate component of the herbicidal combination.

[0116] According to an embodiment, the kit of parts comprises:

[0117] at least one carbamate herbicide;

[0118] at least one diphenyl ether herbicide;

[0119] and optionally further comprises:

[0120] instructions for use.

[0121] In an embodiment, the herbicidal combination comprising a carbamate herbicide and a diphenyl ether herbicide may provide enhanced control for weeds at pre-emergent and / or at post-emergent stage. In another embodiment, the herbicidal combination is effective in improving yield of desired crop by controlling weeds. The herbicidal combination also provides increase in crop yield and crop quality.In view of the above, it will be seen that the several advantages of the disclosure are achieved, and other advantageous results attained. Although the present disclosure has been disclosed in full, it will be understood that numerous additional modifications and variations could be made thereto without departing from the scope of the disclosure.

[0122] EXAMPLES:

[0123] Example 1 : Control of Asulam + Fomesafen on Euphorbia hirta

[0124] The herbicidal combination comprising asulam and fomesafen was evaluated to assess the efficacy of the combination for percentage control of Euphorbia hirta at 7, 14, 21, 28 and 35 days after application (DAA). No phytotoxicity was observed on the crops. The results have been tabulated in Table 1.

[0128] O* - Observed

[0129] It was observed that the herbicidal combination comprising asulam and fomesafen showed enhanced efficacy in control of Euphorbia hirta.

[0130] Example 2: Control of Asulam + Fomesafen on Bidens subalternans

[0131] The herbicidal combination comprising asulam and fomesafen was evaluated to assess the efficacy of the combination for percentage control of Bidens subalternans at 21 (DAA). No phytotoxicity was observed on the crops. The results have been tabulated in Table 2.Table 2

[0135] Example 3: Control of Asulam + Fomesafen on Digitaria insularis

[0136] The herbicidal combination comprising asulam and fomesafen was evaluated to assess the efficacy of the combination for percentage control of Digitaria insularis at 7, 28 and 35 days after application (DAA). No phytotoxicity was observed on the 10 crops. The results have been tabulated in Table 3.
