AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing catheters with embedded reinforcing bodies face issues of stress concentration and potential breakage at the boundary between embedded and non-embedded regions due to tensile or compressive forces, leading to compatibility and operational challenges.

Method used

The catheter design incorporates a tip-side movable tube, a proximal-side movable tube, a wire fixing tube, and a reinforcing portion with a tapered end, ensuring the boundary between rigid and flexible parts is covered and reinforced, allowing for smooth diameter transitions and preventing adhesive accumulation at the boundary, thereby enhancing structural integrity.

Benefits of technology

This design effectively suppresses damage to the catheter due to tensile or compressive forces, maintains operational efficiency, and prevents breakage, ensuring reliable stent deployment and catheter functionality.

Abstract

Provided are: a catheter configured so that even if a tensile force or a compressive force acts on a tube in which a reinforcement body is embedded, it is possible to curb damage to the tube in the vicinity of an end the reinforcement body; and a method for manufacturing the catheter. A catheter (10) comprises: a tip-end-side movable tube (31); a base-end-side movable tube (32); a wire fixing tube (90) disposed on the radial outer side of the base end of the tip-end-side movable tube and the tip end of the base-end-side movable tube; a first joining part (91) that joins the outer peripheral surface of the tip-end-side movable tube (31) and the inner peripheral surface of the wire fixing tube (90); a second joining part (92) that joins the outer peripheral surface of the base-end-side movable tube (32) and the inner peripheral surface of the wire fixing tube (90); and a reinforcing part (93) that extends from the base-end surface of the wire fixing tube (90) in the base-end direction and that is fixed to the outer-peripheral surface of the base-end-side movable tube (32). The base-end-side movable tube (32) includes: a rigid section (37) in which a reinforcing body (35) is embedded; and a flexible section (38) that is disposed further toward the tip-end side than the tip end of the reinforcing body (35) and that has a smaller outer diameter than the rigid section (37). The base end of the reinforcing part (93) is located further toward the base-end side than the tip end of the rigid section (37).
