AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing ECG acquisition devices often produce noisy ECG images or voltage-time series due to powerline interference, baseline wandering, muscle noise, and electrode issues, which can lead to ineffective treatment decisions based on inaccurate analysis.

Method used

An ECG refinement system that utilizes a library of unrefined ECGs mapped to refined ECG voltage-time series, employing computational modeling and machine learning to identify and reduce noise, generating a more accurate representation of the patient's heart activity.

Benefits of technology

The system produces a refined ECG voltage-time series that enhances the accuracy of arrhythmia assessment and treatment planning, leading to more effective healthcare interventions.

Abstract

A system is provided for refining a patient electrocardiogram (ECG) collected from a patient. The system searches an ECG library of unrefined ECGs for a unrefined ECG that is similar to the patient ECG. The unrefined ECGs may be derived from refined ECG voltage-time series generated based on simulations of cardiac electrical activity. The refined ECG voltage-time series may be considered to have no noise. An unrefined ECG may be generated by adding noise to a refined ECG voltage-time series. The system outputs the refined ECG voltage-time series from which the identified unrefined ECG was generated as representing a refined patient ECG.
