AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) systems lack the capability to provide real-time visual confirmation of tagged articles and associate them with security events, requiring store personnel to manually review security footage at a dedicated office.

Method used

An EAS system integrated with a video camera and display screen on a pedestal, displaying real-time images of RFID-tagged articles and surrounding activity upon detection, along with a database linking RFID tags to product images, allowing instantaneous visual confirmation and identification of unsold items.

Benefits of technology

Enables store personnel to identify and retrieve stolen items directly at the point of detection, enhancing security response efficiency and reducing the need for manual review of security footage.

Abstract

An electronic article surveillance system (EAS) for use with a security tag and an inventory database in which the security tag is associated with an article, the system comprising: a detection system including a transceiver, an at least one antenna that is an emitter, an at least one antenna that is a receiver or an at least one antenna that is a combination emitter and receiver, the antennae in electronic communication with the transceiver; a system controller which includes a processor and a memory, the memory configured to instruct the processor, the system controller in electronic communication with the detection system; at least one video camera which is in electronic communication with the system controller; at least one media display screen which is in electronic communication with the system controller; and a frame, the frame retaining the detection system, the video camera and the media display screen, wherein the processor is configured to retrieve a digital image of the article from the inventory database upon the detector system detecting an unsold bit in the security tag and to display the digital image on the media display screen.
