Abstract

Various aspects of the present disclosure relate to random access. In an aspect, a UE receives, from a base station, configuration information comprising a first synchronization signal block (SSB) index set and a second SSB index set. The UE performs measurements on an actual transmitted SSB index set, wherein the actual transmitted SSB index set is the first SSB index set or the second SSB index set and transmits, to the base station, a preamble in a random access channel (RACH) occasion (RO) in a random access procedure. At least one of the actual transmitted SSB index set, the RO or the preamble is determined based on the configuration information.

[0093] Split of functionality between a CU, a DU, and an RU may be flexible and may support different functionalities depending upon which functions (e.g., network layer functions, protocol layer functions, baseband functions, radio frequency functions, and any combinations thereof) are performed at a CU, a DU, or an RU. For example, a functional split of a protocol stack may be employed between a CU and a DU such that the CU may support one or more layers of the protocol stack and the DU may support one or more different layers of the protocol stack. In some implementations, the CU may host upper protocol layer (e.g., a layer 3 (L3) , a layer 2 (L2) ) functionality and signaling (e.g., radio resource control (RRC) , service data adaption protocol (SDAP) , packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) ) . The CU may be connected to one or more DUs or RUs, and the one or more DUs or RUs may host lower protocol layers, such as a layer 1 (L1) (e.g., physical (PHY) layer) or an L2 (e.g., radio link control (RLC) layer, medium access control (MAC) layer) functionality and signaling, and may each be at least partially controlled by the CU 160.

[0094] Additionally, or alternatively, a functional split of the protocol stack may be employed between a DU and an RU such that the DU may support one or more layers of the protocol stack and the RU may support one or more different layers of the protocol stack. The DU may support one or multiple different cells (e.g., via one or more RUs) . In some implementations, a functional split between a CU and a DU, or between a DU and an RU may be within a protocol layer (e.g., some functions for a protocol layer may be performed by one of a CU, a DU, or an RU, while other functions of the protocol layer are performed by a different one of the CU, the DU, or the RU) .

[0095] A CU may be functionally split further into CU control plane (CU-CP) and CU user plane (CU-UP) functions. A CU may be connected to one or more DUs via a midhaul communication link (e.g., F1, F1-c, F1-u) , and a DU may be connected to one or more RUs via a fronthaul communication link (e.g., open fronthaul (FH) interface) . In some implementations, a midhaul communication link or a fronthaul communication link may be implemented in accordance with an interface (e.g., a channel) between layers of a protocol stack supported by respective network entities 102 that are in communication via such communication links.

[0096] The core network 106 may support user authentication, access authorization, tracking, connectivity, and other access, routing, or mobility functions. The core network 106 may be an evolved packet core (EPC) , or a 5G core (5GC) , or a 6G core (6GC) , which may include a control plane entity that manages access and mobility (e.g., a mobility management entity (MME) , an access and mobility management functions (AMF) ) and a user plane entity that routes packets or interconnects to external networks (e.g., a serving gateway (S-GW) , a packet data network (PDN) gateway (P-GW) , or a user plane function (UPF) ) . In some implementations, the control plane entity may manage non-access stratum (NAS) functions, such as registration management, mobility management, connection management, access authentication / authorization, etc. ) for the one or more UEs 104 served by the one or more network entities 102 associated with the core network 106.

[0097] The core network 106 may communicate with the packet data network 108 over one or more backhaul links 116 (e.g., via an S1, N2, N3, or another network interface) . The packet data network 108 may include an application server 118. In some implementations, one or more UEs 104 may communicate with the application server 118. A UE 104 may establish a session (e.g., a protocol data unit (PDU) session, or the like) with the core network 106 via a network entity 102. The core network 106 may route traffic (e.g., control information, data, and the like) between the UE 104 and the application server 118 using the established session (e.g., the established PDU session) . The PDU session may be an example of a logical connection between the UE 104 and the core network 106 (e.g., one or more network functions of the core network 106) .

[0098] In the wireless communications system 100, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may use resources of the wireless communications system 100 (e.g., time resources (e.g., symbols, slots, subframes, frames, or the like) or frequency resources (e.g., subcarriers, carriers) ) to perform various operations (e.g., wireless communications) . In some implementations, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support different resource structures. For example, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support different frame structures. In some implementations, such as in 4G, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support a single frame structure. In some other implementations, such as in 5G and among other suitable radio access technologies, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures (i.e., multiple frame structures) . The network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures based on one or more numerologies.

[0099] One or more numerologies may be supported in the wireless communications system 100, and a numerology may include a subcarrier spacing and a cyclic prefix. A first numerology (e.g., μ=0) may be associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. In some implementations, the first numerology (e.g., μ=0) associated with the first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) may utilize one slot per subframe. A second numerology (e.g., μ=1) may be associated with a second subcarrier spacing (e.g., 30 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A third numerology (e.g., μ=2) may be associated with a third subcarrier spacing (e.g., 60 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix or an extended cyclic prefix. A fourth numerology (e.g., μ=3) may be associated with a fourth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 120 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A fifth numerology (e.g., μ=4) may be associated with a fifth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 240 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix.

[0100] A time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to frames (also referred to as radio frames) . Each frame may have a duration, for example, a 10 millisecond (ms) duration. In some implementations, each frame may include multiple subframes. For example, each frame may include 10 subframes, and each subframe may have a duration, for example, a 1 ms duration. In some implementations, each frame may have the same duration. In some implementations, each subframe of a frame may have the same duration.

[0101] Additionally or alternatively, a time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to slots. For example, a subframe may include a number (e.g., quantity) of slots. The number of slots in each subframe may also depend on the one or more numerologies supported in the wireless communications system 100. For instance, the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth numerologies (i.e., μ=0, μ=1, μ=2, μ=3, μ=4) associated with respective subcarrier spacings of 15 kHz, 30 kHz, 60 kHz, 120 kHz, and 240 kHz may utilize a single slot per subframe, two slots per subframe, four slots per subframe, eight slots per subframe, and 16 slots per subframe, respectively. Each slot may include a number (e.g., quantity) of symbols (e.g., OFDM symbols) . In some implementations, the number (e.g., quantity) of slots for a subframe may depend on a numerology. For a normal cyclic prefix, a slot may include 14 symbols. For an extended cyclic prefix (e.g., applicable for 60 kHz subcarrier spacing) , a slot may include 12 symbols. The relationship between the number of symbols per slot, the number of slots per subframe, and the number of slots per frame for a normal cyclic prefix and an extended cyclic prefix may depend on a numerology. It should be understood that reference to a first numerology (e.g., μ=0) associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) may be used interchangeably between subframes and slots.

[0102] Additionally or alternatively, a time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to symbols.

[0103] In the wireless communications system 100, an electromagnetic (EM) spectrum may be split, based on frequency or wavelength, into various classes, frequency bands, frequency channels, etc. By way of example, the wireless communications system 100 may support one or multiple operating frequency bands, such as frequency range designations FR1 (410 MHz –7.125 GHz) , FR2 (24.25 GHz –52.6 GHz) , FR3 (7.125 GHz –24.25 GHz) , FR4 (52.6 GHz –114.25 GHz) , FR4a or FR4-1 (52.6 GHz –71 GHz) , and FR5 (114.25 GHz –300 GHz) . In some implementations, the network entities 102 and the UEs 104 may perform wireless communications over one or more of the operating frequency bands. In some implementations, FR1 may be used by the network entities 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for cellular communications traffic (e.g., control information, data) . In some implementations, FR2 may be used by the network entities 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for short-range, high data rate capabilities.

[0104] FR1 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g., at least three numerologies) . For example, FR1 may be associated with a first numerology (e.g., μ=0) , which includes 15 kHz subcarrier spacing; a second numerology (e.g., μ=1) , which includes 30 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a third numerology (e.g., μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing. FR2 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g., at least 2 numerologies) . For example, FR2 may be associated with a third numerology (e.g., μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a fourth numerology (e.g., μ=3) , which includes 120 kHz subcarrier spacing.

[0105] In 3GPP Release 19 (Rel-19) , beam prediction in spatial domain and time domain is specified for RRC connected state. In artificial intelligence (AI) based beam management (BM) spatial / time domain prediction, for UE-sided model at least for BM Case-1, for inference results report, two resource sets can be configured for Set A and Set B separately in the CSI report configuration for the report. UE performs measurement on the resource set for Set B for inference, and UE is not expected to measure resource set for Set A for inference. The beam information in the inference report refers to the resource set for Set A.

[0106] For both BM-Case 1 and BM-Case 2, for UE-sided model for inference, when Set A and Set B are configured within CSI report configuration, two CSI-ResourceConfigId s are configured for Set A and Set B separately.

[0107] For UE-sided model inference, the following report format (i.e., CSI field mapping order) as shown in Table 1 is supported for BM-Case 1, for beam information on predicted Top K beam (s) among a set of beams and RSRP of predicted Top K beam (s) among a set of beams. Table 1

[0108] CRI or SSBRI #k is mapped to RSRP #k, where k = 1, 2, ..., K. RSRP #1 is absolute predicted RSRP. Differential RSRP #2~#K are differential predicted RSRP with reference to the largest predicted RSRP corresponding to CRI or SSBRI #1.

[0109] For UE-sided model, for BM-Case 1 and BM-Case 2, for content in the report of inference results, for Opt 1 (only beam information of predicted Top K beam (s) ) , the ranking information of the predicted Top K beams for K>1 is conveyed by the order of the beam information.

[0110] At least for the monitoring Type 1 Option 2 of UE-side model monitoring (when applicable) , it is supported to reuse CSI framework for the configuration for monitoring result report in L1 signaling. Dedicated resource set (s) for monitoring and report configuration for monitoring are configured in a dedicated CSI report configuration used for monitoring. The ID of an inference report configuration is configured in the configuration for monitoring to link the inference report configuration and monitoring report configuration. UE measures the dedicated resource set (s) for monitoring.

[0111] At least for the monitoring Type 1 Option 2 of UE-side model monitoring, for calculation of metric for monitoring, for BM-Case 1, the measurement result of n-th (n = 1. N) latest transmission occasion of the CSI-RS / SSB resources for monitoring is linked with an inference report, where the CSI reference resource of the corresponding inference report has the minimal slot offset to the n-th transmission occasion of the CSI-RS / SSB resources for monitoring. The corresponding inference report, and the transmission occasion of the CSI-RS / SSB resources for monitoring are no later than the CSI reference resource corresponding to the CSI report for monitoring. A threshold X= 64 is predefined for the minimal slot offset, which is configured by RRC, where the minimal slot offset k is no larger than X; otherwise, The transmission occasion for monitoring has no linked inference report.

[0112] It is proposed to apply beam prediction for initial access procedure. Designs on details related to inference and performance monitoring of beam spatial / time / inter-carrier prediction for initial access procedure are needed.

[0113] In view of the above, embodiments of the present disclosure provide schemes related to random access, in particular for beam prediction for initial access procedure. In an aspect of the present disclosure, the UE receives configuration information from a base station. The configuration information includes a first SSB index set and a second SSB index set. The UE perform measurements on an actual transmitted SSB index set, which is the first SSB index set or the second SSB index set. The UE transmits a preamble to the base station in a RO in a random access procedure. At least one of the actual transmitted SSB index set, the RO or the preamble is determined based on the configuration information. In this way, a solution for beam prediction for random access is designed. The resource overhead for random access may be reduced. It is to be understood that the terms used herein are terminologies in 5G NR systems, and may be interchangeably used with other terminologies (but with same or similar functions) that might be used in future wireless communication system such as 6G. A beam corresponds to a specific spatial domain transmission / reception filter configuration or a reference signal (RS) (such as CSI-RS or SSB) transmitted or received using such a spatial domain filter configuration. As used herein, the term "beam" may be interchangeably used with “aspatial domain transmission / reception filter” or “aRS that is transmitted or received using a spatial domain transmission / reception filter” .

[0114] FIG. 2 illustrates an example of a signalling procedure 200 of random access in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. For the purpose of discussion, the procedure 200 will be described with reference to FIG. 1, and the procedure 200 may involve a UE 104 and a network entity 102 as shown in FIG. 1. The network entity may be implemented as a base station. It is to be understood that the steps and the order of the steps in FIG. 2 are merely for illustration, and not for limitation. It is to be understood that procedure 200 may further include additional blocks not shown and / or omit some shown blocks, and the scope of the present disclosure is not limited in this regard.

[0115] As shown in FIG. 2, the base station 102 transmits (202) configuration information 204 to the UE 104. The configuration information 204 may include a first SSB index set and a second SSB index set. The UE 104 receives (206) the configuration information 204 from the base station 102. The base station 102 transmits (208) SSBs 210 on an actual transmitted SSB index set. The actual transmitted SSB index set is the first SSB index set or the second SSB index set. The UE 104 performs (212) measurements on the actual transmitted SSB index set. The UE 104 transmits, to the base station 102, a preamble 216 in a RO in a random access procedure. The base station 102 receives (218) the preamble 216 from the UE 104. At least one of the actual transmitted SSB index set, the RO or the preamble is determined based on the configuration information 204.

[0116] In some embodiments, the configuration information 204 may be carried in one of the following: system information, a radio resource control (RRC) signaling, or group common downlink control information (DCI) .

[0117] In some embodiments, the UE 104 may determine the actual transmitted SSB index set from the first SSB index set and the second SSB index set based on a predefined rule. The actual transmitted SSB index set is the first SSB index set with a smaller size than the second SSB index. For example, the first SSB index set may correspond to Set B for BM prediction, and the second SSB index set may correspond to Set A for BM prediction. The first SSB index with the smaller size is for measurement, and the second SSB index set with the larger size is for prediction. In some examples, the first SSB index set may be a subset of the second SSB index set. In some alternative examples, the second SSB set may be larger than the first SSB set, but doesn’ t include the first SSB index set.

[0118] In some alternative embodiments, the UE 104 may determine the actual transmitted SSB index set from the first SSB index set and the second SSB index set based on the configuration information 204. In some examples, the configuration information 204 may further include an indication of whether the first SSB index set or the second SSB index set is actually transmitted. Alternatively or additionally, the configuration information 204 may further include an indication that the first SSB index set is for measurement and the second SSB index set is for prediction. Alternatively or additionally, the configuration information 204 may further include an indication of whether prediction is required or not. Alternatively or additionally, the configuration information 204 may further include an indication of whether measurement without prediction is supported. If the network supports both beam prediction UE and legacy UE, the actual transmitted SSB index set will be based on Set A. If the network supports beam prediction UE only, the actual transmitted SSB index set will be based on Set B.

[0119] In some embodiments, the UE 104 may determine an overlapping between an SSB in the actual transmitted SSB index set and a further channel or reference signal (RS) in time or frequency domain. The further channel or RS can be PDSCH, CSI-RS, PUCCH, PUSCH, PRACH, SRS, etc. In some examples, in case of overlapping between the SSB in the actual transmitted SSB index set and the further channel or RS, the UE 104 may omit transmission or reception of the further channel or RS. In some alternative examples, in case of overlapping between the SSB in the actual transmitted SSB index set and the further channel or RS, the UE 104 may omit reception of the SSB. For example, the actual transmitted SSB index set is used to determine overlapping or rate matching with other RS / channel.

[0120] In some embodiments, the configuration information 204 may further include a first threshold value for measurements on the first SSB index set. Alternatively or additionally, the configuration information 204 may further include a second threshold value for measurements on the second SSB index set. Alternatively or additionally, the configuration information 204 may further include a differential value between the first threshold and the second threshold. For example, if the actual transmitted SSB index set is Set B, since Set A is not actually transmitted, an additional RSRP threshold need to be configured by the network for UE selecting an SSB index in Set A based on beam prediction. The additional RSRP threshold for Set A may be different from the RSRP threshold for Set B. The additional RSRP threshold for Set A may be configured by an absolute value or by a differential value with respect to the RSRP threshold for Set B.

[0121] In some embodiments, the configuration information 204 may further include a third SSB index set. A periodicity of the third SSB index set may be larger than a periodicity than the actual transmitted SSB index set. First ROs may be configured for the first SSB index set or the second index set. Second ROs may be configured for the third SSB index set. For example, in addition to the actual transmitted SSB for beam prediction UE, there may also be additional SSB transmission for legacy UE. In this case, there may be additional ROs for the additional SSB transmission for legacy UE. There may be two sets of ROs. The first set of ROs is related to beam prediction, and the second set of ROs is for legacy UE as in legacy releases. The two sets of ROs may be separately configured / determined, and have different time domain resources or different frequency domain resources.

[0122] In some embodiments, the UE 104 may determine an SSB-to-RO association based on an SSB index set among the first SSB index set and the second SSB index set. At least one of the RO or the preamble may be determined based on the SSB-to-RO association. The SSB index set for SSB-to-RO association may be indicated in the configuration information 204 or may be determined based on a predefined rule. For example, when there is beam predication in initial access, which SSB index set is used for SSB-to-RO association should also be indicated / determined. When there is a first SSB index set corresponding to Set B and there is a second SSB index corresponding to Set A, the SSB-to-RO association may be based on the first SSB index set or the second SSB index. This may be configured in system information / dedicated RRC / group common DCI.

[0123] In some embodiments, the actual transmitted SSB index set is the first SSB index set, and the SSB index set for SSB-to-RO association is the first SSB index set. The UE 104 may determine an SSB index from the second SSB index set based on prediction, and the prediction is based on the measurements on the actual transmitted SSB index set. At least one of the RO or the preamble may be determined based on the SSB-to-RO association and the determined SSB index. For example, a first SSB index set corresponding to Set B is configured for measurement, and a second SSB index corresponding to Set A is configured for prediction. SSB transmission is based on the Set B, and the available RO is based on set B.However, UE can select a beam in set A based on prediction, and the RO for the selected beam in set A is among the available RO for set B. The selected / preferred beam at UE side may be determined based on Set A. The PRACH resource (e.g., RO and / or preamble index) may be determined based on the SSB-to-RO association and the selected / preferred beam.

[0124] In some example embodiments, a first SSB index among the first SSB index set is associated with at least one second SSB index among the second SSB index set. If the determined SSB index is included in the second SSB index set and not included in the first SSB index set, and the determined SSB index is included in the at least one second SSB index associated with the first SSB index, the RO for transmitting the preamble may be associated with the first SSB index based on the SSB-to-RO association. A spatial domain transmission filter or QCL information for transmitting the preamble in the RO may be determined based on the first SSB index. In some examples, the preamble may be included in a subset of preambles, among a set of preambles of the first SSB index, for the determined SSB index. In some alternative examples, the RO for transmitting the preamble may be included in a subset of ROs, among a set of ROs associated with the first SSB index, for the determined SSB index. In this case, different subsets of ROs or preambles of the same first SSB index may be adopted so that it can be differentiated that whether the UE selected SSB index is within the first SSB index set or within the second SSB index set. In some alternative examples, a MsgA may be transmitted on the RO, the MsgA may include the preamble and an indication of the determined SSB index. For example, each beam in Set B is configured to be associated with one or more beams in Set A. In this way, beams in Set A may be divided to different beams in Set B. If there are multiple associated beams of Set A to a beam in Set B, there may be further configured / pre-defined division. For example, different preamble subsets or different RO (if there are multiple associated ROs for a beam in Set B) may be configured to be associated with the beam in Set B or beam in Set A. When UE predicts a beam X in Set A based on measurement on Set B, i.e., the selected / preferred beam at UE side is in Set A while not in Set B, PRACH transmission may be at RO associated with a beam Y in Set B. Separate RACH resource  / preamble need to be configured for Set A beams to be associated with the preferred beam X in Set B. Alternatively, in case of two-step RACH, when UE predicts a beam X in Set A based on measurement on Set B, i.e., the selected / preferred beam at UE side is in Set A while not in Set B, PRACH transmission may be at RO associated with a beam Y in Set B, and the information of beam X in Set A may be carried by PUSCH of MsgA.

[0125] In some embodiments, the actual transmitted SSB index set is the first SSB index set, and the SSB index set for SSB-to-RO association is the second SSB index set. The UE 104 may determine an SSB index from the second SSB index set based on prediction. The prediction is based on the measurements on the actual transmitted SSB index set. At least one of the RO or the preamble may be determined based on the SSB-to-RO association and the determined SSB index. For example, a first SSB index set corresponding to Set B is configured for measurement, and a second SSB index corresponding to Set A is configured for prediction. SSB transmission is based on the Set B, and SSB-to-RO association is based on the Set A. The selected / preferred beam at UE side may be determined based on Set A. The PRACH resource (e.g., RO and / or preamble index) may be determined based on the SSB-to-RO association and the selected / preferred beam. In this case, there will be available RO for each SSB index in set A.

[0126] In some example embodiments, if the determined SSB index is included in the second SSB index set and not included in the first SSB index set, the RO for transmitting the preamble may be associated with the determined SSB index based on the SSB-to-RO association. In some examples, a spatial domain transmission filter or quasi-co-location (QCL) information for transmitting the preamble in the RO may be determined based on historical measurements on the determined SSB index. For example, Set A is transmitted with large periodicity and Set B is transmitted with smaller periodicity. When UE predicts a beam X in Set A based on measurement on Set B, i.e., the selected / preferred beam at UE side is in Set A while not in Set B, UE may determine the spatial domain transmission / reception filter of beam X based on the large periodicity transmission of Set A. In this case, as SSB-to-RO association is based on Set A, so beam X may have a specific RO for PRACH transmission. The corresponding PRACH may be transmitted at the RO associated with beam X.

[0127] In some alternative example embodiments, a first SSB index among the first SSB index set is associated with at least one second SSB index among the second SSB index set.

[0128] In some alternative example embodiments, a first SSB index among the first SSB index set is associated with at least one second SSB index among the second SSB index set. If the determined SSB index is included in the second SSB index set and not included in the first SSB index set, and the determined SSB index is included in the at least one second SSB index, the RO for transmitting the preamble may be associated with the determined SSB index based on the SSB-to-RO association. A spatial domain transmission filter or QCL information for transmitting the preamble in the RO may be determined based on the first SSB index. For example, each beam in Set B is configured to be associated with one or more beams in Set A. In this way, beams in Set A may be divided to different beams in Set B. When UE predicts a beam X in Set A based on measurement on Set B, i.e., the selected / preferred beam at UE side is in Set A while not in Set B, PRACH transmission may be at RO associated with beam X in Set A. Transmission beam of the PRACH may be based on a beam Y in Set B.

[0129] In some embodiments, the UE 104 may perform subsequent transmissions and receptions of the random access procedure based on the determined SSB index. For example, RAR monitoring is based on beam X in Set A. Following DL reception / UL transmission, e.g., msg 3, msg4 and PUCCH for msg4 is also based on beam X in Set A.

[0130] In some embodiments, the UE 104 may monitor a random access response (RAR) from the base station 102. A duration between transmission of the preamble and monitoring of the RAR may be based on an SSB periodicity. For example, after PRACH transmission in RO for beam X or beam Y, and before RAR reception based on beam X in Set A, there should be at least one SSB Set A periodicity, so that beam X may be actually transmitted at least once, and then UE may determine the proper spatial domain reception filter for beam X.

[0131] In some embodiments, the configuration information 204 may be applied at an occasion after receiving the configuration information 204. For example, the configuration information 204 may be applied from a next SSB periodicity after receiving the configuration information 204. Alternatively, the configuration information 204 may be applied from a next SSB-to-RO mapping cycle after receiving the configuration information 204. Alternatively, the configuration information 204 may be applied from a next physical RACH (PRACH) periodicity after receiving the configuration information 204. Alternatively, the configuration information 204 may be applied from a next SSB-to-RO association period after receiving the configuration information 204. Alternatively, the configuration information 204 may be applied from a next SSB-to-RO association pattern period after receiving the configuration information 204. The application occasion of the configuration information 204 may be associated with the specific content in the configuration information 204. In a more specific example, an indication of the actual transmitted SSB index set may be carried in system information / dedicated RRC / group common DCI, and may be applied from the next SSB periodicity. In another specific example, an indication of the SSB index set for SSB-to-RO association may be carried in system information / dedicated RRC / group common DCI, and may be applied from the next SSB-to-RO mapping cycle or next PRACH periodicity, or the next SSB-to-RO association period.

[0132] In some embodiments, the configuration information 204 may further include at least one of the following: a first component carrier (CC) index associated with the first SSB index set, or a second CC index associated with the second SSB index. For example, Set A may be configured with a CC index, so that Set A is for the corresponding CC index. Alternatively or additionally, Set B may be configured with a CC index, so that Set B is for the corresponding CC index. For example, if Set B is configured with a carrier index#1, and Set A is configured with a carrier index#2, then Set B transmitted in carrier#1 used is to predict Set A beams in carrier#2.

[0133] In some embodiments, if no CC index is configured for the first SSB index set, the first SSB index set is associated with a cell in which the configuration information 204 is received. Alternatively or additionally, if no CC index is configured for the second SSB index set, the second SSB index set is associated with a cell in which the configuration information 204 is received. For example, if there is no configured carrier index for Set B, it may be considered as that it is for the cell transmitting the configuration information. If there is no configured carrier index for Set A, it may be considered as that it is for the cell transmitting the configuration information.

[0134] In some embodiments, the configuration information 204 may further include at least one CC index pair. The UE 104 may perform measurements on the first SSB index set in a first CC index in each CC index pair, and perform prediction on the second SSB index set in a second CC index in the CC index pair based on the measurements on the first SSB index set in a first CC index in the CC index pair. For example, for a combination of Set B and Set A, a pair of Set B carrier index and Set A carrier index may be configured. In a more specific example, the beam combination may be (beam#1 / #2, beam#1 / #2 / #3 / #4) and the associated carrier combination may be (1 / 2, 1 / 1, 3 / 4) , then it means that beam#1 / #2 in carrier#1 may be used to predict beam#1 / #2 / #3 / #4 in carrier #1 and carrier #2, and beam #1 / #2 in carrier #3 may be used to predict beam#1 / #2 / #3 / #4 in carrier #4.

[0135] In some embodiments, the UE 104 may transmit an indication of supporting prediction in a random access procedure to the base station 102. Alternatively or additionally, the UE 104 may transmit an indication of a preferred SSB index set to the base station 102. The preferred SSB index set is the first SSB index set or the second SSB index set. For example, there may be UE capability reporting indicating whether it supports beam prediction in initial access procedure or not. The capability reporting may also include a preferred SSB index set. In some example embodiments, the UE 104 may transmit a CC index associated with the preferred SSB index set to the base station 102. For example, in case of inter-carrier beam prediction, the capability reporting may also include a carrier index for the preferred SSB index set (e.g., Set B or Set A) or a carrier index combination for both Set B and Set A. In some example embodiments, if no CC index is indicated for the preferred SSB index set, the preferred SSB index set may be associated with a cell in which the indication of the preferred SSB index set is transmitted.

[0136] In some example embodiments, the preferred SSB index set may be indicated via at least one of the RO or the preamble. Alternatively, the indication of the preferred SSB index set may be carried in a MsgA or a RRC signaling. For example, different combination of Set B / Set A and corresponding combination / pair of carrier index may be pre-configured by gNB via system information, and these different combinations may be associated with a separate RACH resource (e.g., RO or preamble) , so that the UE’s preferred combination may be reflected by corresponding PRACH transmission. In other cell or other carrier, the capability reporting of UE may be indicated in a dedicated RRC carried in PUSCH. Alternatively, the capability reporting of UE may be indicated in MsgA PUSCH in case of 2-step RACH.

[0137] In some embodiments, the UE 104 may perform measurements on the preferred SSB index set from a next SSB periodicity after transmitting the indication of the preferred SSB index set.

[0138] In some embodiments, the UE 104 may transmit, to the base station 102, a request of transmission of the second SSB index set. For example, actual transmission of Set A may be triggered based on UE request. The network needs to actual transmit Set A beams, so that UE may compare the prediction beams of Set A and the measured beams of Set A, determine whether current combination of Set B and Set A may work properly, or fallback is necessary. In some example embodiments, the UE 104 may transmit, to the base station 102, an indication of a CC index associated with the transmission of the second SSB index set. In some examples, the CC index is indicated via at least one of the RO or the preamble. In some alternative examples, the indication of the CC index is carried in a MsgA. For example, for inter-carrier beam prediction case, UE may also request actual transmission of Set A for other carrier index. Different carrier index may also be associated with different RACH resource or indicated in PUSCH of MsgA.

[0139] In some embodiments, the UE 104 may receive, from the base station 102, an indication of transmission of the second SSB index set, and perform measurements on the second SSB index set. In some example embodiments, measurement on the second SSB index set may be within a duration. A periodicity of the second SSB index set is larger than a periodicity than the first SSB index set. For example, for monitoring phase, the configuration related to Set A may be configured to be actually transmitted. Thus, from UE perspective, both Set B and Set A are actually transmitted in the monitoring phase. The actual transmission of Set A may be associated with a duration. Actual transmission of Set A may have a different periodicity from that of Set B. For example, the periodicity of Set A is multiple times of the periodicity of Set B. The gNB may transmit, to UE, an indication that Set A is actually transmitted. The starting of the duration for Set A monitoring may be based on reception of the indication that Set A is actually transmitted.

[0140] Hereinbefore, some embodiments of random access are described in general terms. Hereinafter, some implementations of the random access may be further detailed with respect to various aspects.

[0141] The first aspect of the present disclosure relates to SSB index configuration for inference. A cell may serve both legacy UEs (including network energy saving (NES) UEs and non-NES UE) and also new UEs supporting beam prediction in time / spatial domain in initial access procedure.

[0142] In some examples, gNB may broadcast its capability indicating supporting beam predication UEs only or both beam prediction UEs and legacy UEs.

[0143] For a network supporting beam prediction UEs, there may be a first SSB index set which is actually transmitted by the network, and there may be a second SSB index set which is different from the first SSB index set. The first SSB index set may correspond to Set B for BM prediction. The second SSB index set may correspond to Set A for BM prediction. The first SSB index is for measurement, and the second SSB index set is for prediction. The first SSB index set may be a subset of the second SSB index set; or the second SSB set is larger than the first SSB Set But doesn’ t include the first SSB index set.

[0144] When the network supports both beam prediction UEs and legacy UEs, the actual transmitted SSB index set may be based on Set A. When the network supports beam prediction UEs only, the actual transmitted SSB index set may be based on Set B. Anyway, there may be two SSB index sets configured in system information, and the network needs to further indicate whether the actual transmitted SSB index set is based on the first set or the second set. For example, there may be a further indication that the first SSB set is for measurement and the second is for prediction. Alternatively, there may be a predefined rule that the SSB index set with a smaller size is for measurement and the SSB index set with a larger size is for prediction.

[0145] The above information of SSB index configuration may be indicated in system information.

[0146] Alternatively, if there is carrier aggregation (CA) or dual connection (DC) , the above information of SSB index configuration may be indicated in dedicated RRC signaling or in group common DCI. In some examples, each SSB index set may be configured with a CC index, so that the SSB index set is for the corresponding CC index.

[0147] In some examples, the actual transmitted SSB index set is used to determine overlapping or rate matching with other RS / channel.

[0148] In some examples, the SSB index set is also used for SSB-to-RO association. When there is beam predication in initial access, which SSB index set is used for SSB-to-RO association should also be indicated. When there is a first SSB index set corresponding to Set B and there is a second SSB index corresponding to Set A, the SSB-to-RO association may be based on the first SSB index set or the second SSB index set. This may also be configured in system information / dedicated RRC / group common DCI. If it is configured in dedicated RRC / group common DCI in another carrier, there may also be a CC index for the configuration.

[0149] There may be several combinations of SSB index set for actual SSB transmission and SSB index set for SSB-to-RO association. For example, in the combination #1, Set B is for actual transmission, and Set B is for SSB-to-RO association. In the combination #2, Set B is for actual transmission, and Set A is for SSB-to-RO association. In the combination #3, Set A is for actual transmission and Set A is for SSB-to-RO association.

[0150] Regarding selection of SSB index in Set A, as Set A is not actually transmitted, which is different from legacy SSB or from Set B, a new RSRP threshold needs to be configured by network for UE selection of SSB index in Set A. The new RSRP threshold may be configured by an absolute value or by a differential value with respect to the legacy RSRP threshold for actual transmitted SSBs.

[0151] In addition to the SSB transmission of the actual transmitted SSB index set, there may also be additional SSB transmissions for legacy UE. For example, there may be SSB transmission with a larger periodicity with an SSB index configured as in legacy release. In this case, there may be additional RO for the additional SSB transmission as in legacy release. Thus, there may be two sets of ROs. The first set of ROs is related to beam prediction, and the second set of ROs is as in legacy releases. The two sets of ROs may be separately configured / determined, and have different time domain resources or different frequency domain resources.

[0152] In some examples, application of the SSB index set indication may be configured in system information / dedicated RRC / group common DCI. If the SSB index set indication is to indicate the actual transmitted SSB index set, it may be applied from the next SSB periodicity. If the SSB index set indication is to indicate the SSB index set for SSB-to-RO association, it may be applied from the next SSB-to-RO mapping cycle or next PRACH periodicity, or the next SSB-to-RO association period.

[0153] The second aspect of the present disclosure relates to SSB-to-RO association for inference.

[0154] In legacy release, SSB-to-RO association is based on actual transmitted SSB indices. UE selects a RO for PRACH transmission, so that gNB may know the UE selected spatial domain transmission filter. The spatial domain filter is further used for RAR monitoring, msg3 transmission and following DL reception / UL transmission.

[0155] In the combination#2 of SSB index set for actual SSB transmission and SSB index set for SSB-to-RO association, Set B is for actual transmission, and Set A is for SSB-to-RO association. FIG. 3 illustrates an example implementation of the combination #2 in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. In the example shown in FIG. 3, Set A includes beams #1 / #2 / #3 / #4, and Set B includes beams #1 / #2. SSBs in Set B are transmitted for prediction in Set A. ROs for Set A are configured. In other words, SSB-to-RO association is based on Set A including beams #1 / #2 / #3 / #4.

[0156] As Set A is predicted rather than actually transmitted by gNB, if the UE’s preferred beam is in Set A while not in Set B, the UE needs to determine the UE Tx beam for PRACH transmission, inform gNB the selected / preferred beam at UE side and determine the RO for PRACH transmission.

[0157] In a first alternative, the UE may determine the UE Tx beam for PRACH transmission based on historical measurement on Set A. Set A is transmitted with a larger periodicity and Set B is transmitted with a smaller periodicity. When UE predicts a beam X in Set A based on measurement on Set B, it may determine the spatial domain transmission / reception filter of beam X based on large periodicity transmission of Set A. In this case, as SSB-to-RO association is based on Set A, so beam X may have a specific RO for PRACH transmission. The corresponding PRACH may be transmitted at the RO associated with beam X.

[0158] After PRACH transmission in RO for beam Y, and before RAR reception based on beam X in Set A, there may be at least an SSB Set A periodicity, so that beam X may be actually transmitted at least once, and then UE may determine the proper spatial domain reception filter for beam X. Time duration between PRACH transmission and RAR monitoring may be added by one SSB periodicity in addition to legacy 1 symbol.

[0159] In case of two-step RACH, there is no necessity to carry information of beam X in PUSCH of msgA.

[0160] FIG. 4A illustrates an example implementation of PRACH transmission for a preferred beam in Set A in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. The example shown in FIG. 4A is based on the SSB index set configuration and the SSB-to-RO association shown in FIG. 3. As shown in FIG. 4A, if beam #3 is selected by UE as a preferred beam based on the measurements on Set B, the UE transmits a preamble in RO #3 associated with beam #3, and the spatial domain transmission filter for PRACH transmission is based on historical measurement on beam #3. Subsequent DL receptions and UL transmissions of the random access procedure are also based on beam #3.

[0161] In a second alternative, when UE predicts a beam X in Set A based on measurement on Set B, PRACH transmission may be at RO associated with a beam Y in Set B.Separate RACH resources (e.g., RO or preamble) of a Set B beam need to be configured to be associated with the preferred beam X in Set A.

[0162] In this case, each beam in Set B is configured to be associated with one or more beams in Set A. The intension is to divide beams in Set A to different beams in Set B. If there are multiple associated beams of Set A to a beam in Set B. There may be further configured / pre-defined division. For example, different preamble subsets or different ROs (if there are multiple associated ROs for a beam in Set B) may be configured to be associated with the beam in Set B or beam in Set A.

[0163] In a first specific example, Set B contains beam #1, beam#2, Set A contains beam #3, #4, #5, #6. The mapping between beams in Set B and beams in Set A may be that: beam #1 is related to beam#3 and beam #4, beam#2 is related to beam#5 and beam#6. If there is only one RO for beam #1 and beam#2, then preambles #1-19 are associated with beam#1 and beam#2 for the corresponding RO, preambles #20-39 are associated with beam#3 and beam#5 for the corresponding RO, preambles #40-59 are associated with beam#4 and beam #6 for the corresponding RO. In this case, separate preambles are associated with beams in Set B and Set A.

[0164] In a second specific example, Set B contains beam#1, #2, Set A contains beam#1, beam#2, beam#3, beam #4, beam#5, beam#6. Similar mapping as the first specific example may be adopted.

[0165] PRACH transmission beam may be based on beam Y in Set B. RAR reception beam may be based on beam X in Set A. After PRACH transmission in RO for beam Y, and before RAR reception based on beam X in Set A, there should be at least an SSB Set A periodicity, so that beam X may be actually transmitted at least once, and then UE may determine the proper spatial domain reception filter for beam X. Time duration between PRACH transmission and RAR monitoring may be added by one SSB periodicity in addition to legacy 1 symbol. Following UL / DL spatial domain transmission / reception beam may be based on beam X in Set A.

[0166] In case of two-step RACH, there is no necessity of RACH resource / RO division, and the information of beam X in Set A may be carried by PUSCH of msgA.

[0167] FIG. 4B illustrates another example implementation of PRACH transmission for a preferred beam in Set A in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. The example shown in FIG. 4B is based on the SSB index set configuration and the SSB-to-RO association shown in FIG. 3. As shown in FIG. 4B, beam #1 in Set B is associated with beam #3 in Set A, and beam #2 in Set B is associated with beam #4 in Set A. If beam #3 is selected by UE as a preferred beam based on the measurements on Set B, the UE transmits a preamble in a RO#1 associated with beam #1, and the spatial domain transmission filter for PRACH transmission is based on beam #1. A first subset of PRACH resources (e.g., ROs or preambles) of beam #1 is for beam #1, and a second subset of PRACH resources (e.g., ROs or preambles) of beam #1 is for beam #3. The UE transmits a preamble in RO#1 using the second subset of PRACH resources. Subsequent DL receptions and UL transmissions of the random access procedure are based on beam #3.

[0168] In a third alternative, when UE predicts a beam X in Set A based on measurement on Set B, PRACH transmission may be at RO associated with beam X in Set A. Transmission beam of the PRACH may be based on a beam Y in Set B. Similar to the second alternative, there may also be mapping between beams in Set B and beams in Set A. The mapping is to determine the PRACH transmission beam in RO associated beam X. The difference from the second alternative is that there is no further division of PRACH resources (e.g., preambles or ROs) for beams of Set B, since different RO may already reflect beam X in Set A.

[0169] Similarly as in the second alternative, RAR reception beam may be based on beam X in Set A.

[0170] In case of two-step RACH, there is no necessity to carry information of beam X in PUSCH of msgA.

[0171] FIG. 4C illustrates another example implementation of PRACH transmission for a preferred beam in Set A in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. The example shown in FIG. 4C is based on the SSB index set configuration and the SSB-to-RO association shown in FIG. 3. As shown in FIG. 4C, beam #1 in Set B is associated with beam #3 in Set A, and beam #2 in Set B is associated with beam #4 in Set A. If beam #3 is selected by UE as a preferred beam based on the measurements on Set B, the UE transmits a preamble in a RO#3 associated with beam #3, and the spatial domain transmission filter for PRACH transmission is based on beam #1. The UE transmits a preamble in RO#3 using beam #1. Subsequent DL receptions and UL transmissions of the random access procedure are based on beam #3.

[0172] In the combination#1 of SSB index set for actual SSB transmission and SSB index set for SSB-to-RO association, Set B is for actual transmission, and Set B is for SSB-to-RO association. FIG. 5 illustrates an example implementation of the combination #1 in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. In the example shown in FIG. 5, Set A includes beams #1 / #2 / #3 / #4, and Set B includes beams #1 / #2. SSBs in Set B are transmitted for prediction in Set A. ROs for Set B are configured. In other words, SSB-to-RO association is based on Set B including beams #1 / #2.

[0173] In this case, when UE predicts a beam X in Set A based on measurement on Set B, there is no separate RO for beams in Set A. Similar as the second alternative for combination #1, PRACH transmission is based on related beam Y in Set B for beam X in Set A. Separate RACH resources (e.g., RO or preamble) a Set B beam need to be configured to be associated with the preferred beam X in Set A. Each beam in Set B is configured to be associated with one or more beams in Set A. If there are multiple associated beams of Set A to a beam in Set B. There may be further configured / pre-defined division. For example, different preamble subsets or different ROs (if there are multiple associated ROs for a beam in Set B) may be configured to be associated with the beam in Set B or beam in Set A.

[0174] RAR monitoring may be based on beam X in Set A. After PRACH transmission in RO for beam Y, and before RAR reception based on beam X in Set A, there should be at least an SSB Set A periodicity, so that beam X may be actually transmitted at least once, and then UE may determine the proper spatial domain reception filter for beam X. Following DL reception / UL transmission, e.g., msg 3, msg4 and PUCCH for msg4, is also based on beam X in Set A.

[0175] FIG. 6 illustrates another example implementation of PRACH transmission for a preferred beam in Set A in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. The example shown in FIG. 6 is based on the SSB index set configuration and the SSB-to-RO association shown in FIG. 5. As shown in FIG. 6, beam #1 in Set B is associated with beam #3 in Set A, and beam #2 in Set B is associated with beam #4 in Set A.

[0176] The third aspect of the present disclosure relates to inter-carrier beam prediction for initial access. In some examples, the SSB index configuration of Set B and Set A may include carrier index information for Set B and / or Set A.

[0177] In some examples, Set B and Set A may be separately configured with a respective carrier index. FIG. 7A illustrates an example implementation of inter-carrier SSB index set configuration in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. As shown in FIG. 7A, Set B may be configured with a carrier index#1, and Set A may be configured with a carrier index#2, and Set B transmitted in carrier#1 is to predict Set A beams in carrier#2.

[0178] In some examples, if there is no configured carrier index for Set B or Set A, the SSB index set may be for the cell transmitting the SSB index set configuration. FIG. 7B illustrates another example implementation of inter-carrier SSB index set configuration in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. As shown in FIG. 7B, no carrier index is configured for Set B. If the SSB index set configuration is transmitted in carrier#1, then Set B is transmitted in carrier#1 for predicting Set A beams in the configured carrier (set) of Set A.

[0179] In some examples, at least one pair of Set B carrier index and Set A carrier index may be configured. FIG. 7C illustrates another example implementation of inter-carrier SSB index set configuration in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. As shown in FIG. 7C, two pairs of Set B carrier index and Set A carrier index may be configured as {(CC#1, CC#2) , (CC#3, CC#4) } . Then, Set B transmitted in carrier#1 is to predict Set A beams in carrier#2, and Set B transmitted in carrier#3 is to predict Set A beams in carrier#4. In a more specific example, if the beam combination is (beam#1 / 2, beam#1 / 2 / 3 / 4) and the associated carrier combination is {1 / 2, 1 / 1, 3 / 4} , then it means that beams #1 / 2 in carrier#1 may be used to predict beams #1 / 2 / 3 / 4 in carrier #1 / 2, beams #1 / 2 in carrier 3 may be used to predict beams #1 / 2 / 3 / 4 in carrier #4.

[0180] For SSB-to-RO association, in case of inter-carrier beam prediction, RO may share same carrier index with Set A. That is, the carrier of beam prediction is also the carrier for PRACH transmission. The alternatives in the second aspect are all applicable. PRACH transmission may be at the corresponding carrier rather than same carrier.

[0181] There may also be UE capability reporting indicating whether it supports beam prediction in initial access procedure or not. The capability reporting may also be UE’s preferred SSB index set. In case of inter-carrier beam prediction, the capability reporting may also include a carrier index for one of Set B or Set A or a carrier index combination for both Set B and Set A.

[0182] In some examples, for initial access procedure, the capability reporting may be carried in PRACH transmission. For example, different combinations of Set B  / Set A and corresponding pair of carrier index may be pre-configured by gNB via system information, and these different combinations may be associated with separate RACH resources (e.g., separate preambles or ROs) , so that the UE’s preferred combination may be reflected by corresponding PRACH transmission.

[0183] In some examples, for initial access procedure, the capability reporting may be carried in other cell or other carrier, using a dedicated RRC carried in PUSCH.

[0184] In some examples, for initial access procedure, the capability reporting may be carried in MsgA PUSCH in case of 2-step RACH.

[0185] The fourth aspect of the present disclosure relates to monitoring. For monitoring, the network needs to actually transmit Set A beams, so that UE can compare the prediction beams of Set A and the measured beams of Set A, and thus determine whether current combination of Set B and Set A may work properly, or whether fallback is necessary. In comparison, during the inference phase, Set B is actually transmitted, while Set A is configured but not actually transmitted.

[0186] FIG. 8 illustrates an example of a monitoring procedure for beam prediction in initial access in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. As shown in FIG. 8, at step 801, the gNB transmits Set A to UE, and UE performs measurements on beam A and compare the prediction beams of Set A based on measurements of Set B and the measured beams of Set A. For monitoring, the configuration related to Set A may be configured to be actually transmitted. Thus, from UE perspective, both Set B and Set A are actually transmitted. The actual transmission of Set A may be associated with a duration. Actual transmission of Set A may also have a different periodicity from that of Set B. For example, the periodicity of Set A is multiple times of the periodicity of Set B. The starting of the duration may be based on reception of indication that Set A is actually transmitted.

[0187] The Actual transmission of Set A may be determined by gNB. Actual transmission of Set A may also be triggered based on UE request. As shown in FIG. 8, at step 800, the UE requests actual Set A transmission. For example, UE transmits PRACH in a specific RACH resource (including RO and preamble) , so that the gNB knows that UE needs actual transmission of Set A. Then Set A may be transmitted accordingly. UE may assume that Set A is to be transmitted from the next Set A periodicity after the PRACH transmission.

[0188] The periodicity of Set A, the duration of actual Set A transmission may be configured in system information or may be pre-defined.

[0189] For inter-carrier beam prediction case, UE may also request Set A actual transmission for other carrier index. Different carrier index may also be associated with different RACH resource or indicated in PUSCH of msgA.

[0190] At step 802, the UE may respond whether to Set A or Set B transmission is preferred, or response whether to use AI-based prediction or not, based on the monitoring result. The beam prediction model may be at the UE side. Whether the UE adopts beam prediction is UE side implementation. However, it may impact SSB transmission at gNB side. Thus, UE may inform gNB the preferred actual SSB transmission index.

[0191] If the preferred SSB index is Set B, then it may be considered that the model may work properly. If the preferred SSB index is Set A, then it may be considered that fallback is to be performed. All SSB index need to be transmitted without prediction.

[0192] UE reporting of monitoring result may share similar way as UE capability reporting in the third aspect, i.e., based on RACH resource or PUSCH transmission in Msg A to inform gNB the preferred beam set for actual SSB transmission.

[0193] The preferred SSB index set for actual transmission may also be transmitted with a carrier index. The preferred SSB index set for actual transmission may also be transmitted to different carrier index, e.g. by dedicated RRC signaling or transmitted in PUSCH other than RACH.

[0194] At step 803, the gNB configures Set B or Set A for actual SSB transmission based on the UE response.

[0195] FIG. 9 illustrates an example of a device 900 that supports random access in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. The device 900 may be an example of a UE 104 or a base station 102 as described herein. The device 900 may support wireless communication with one or more network entities 102, UEs 104, or any combination thereof. The device 900 may include components for bi-directional communications including components for transmitting and receiving communications, such as a processor 902, a memory 904, a transceiver 906, and, optionally, an I / O controller 908. These components may be in electronic communication or otherwise coupled (e.g., operatively, communicatively, functionally, electronically, electrically) via one or more interfaces (e.g., buses) .

[0196] The processor 902, the memory 904, the transceiver 906, or various combinations thereof or various components thereof may be examples of means for performing various aspects of the present disclosure as described herein. For example, the processor 902, the memory 904, the transceiver 906, or various combinations or components thereof may support a method for performing one or more of the operations described herein.

[0197] In some implementations, the processor 902, the memory 904, the transceiver 906, or various combinations or components thereof may be implemented in hardware (e.g., in communications management circuitry) . The hardware may include a processor, a digital signal processor (DSP) , an application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) , a field-programmable gate array (FPGA) or other programmable logic device, a discrete gate or transistor logic, discrete hardware components, or any combination thereof configured as or otherwise supporting a means for performing the functions described in the present disclosure. In some implementations, the processor 902 and the memory 904 coupled with the processor 902 may be configured to perform one or more of the functions described herein (e.g., executing, by the processor 902, instructions stored in the memory 904) .

[0198] For example, the processor 902 may support wireless communication at the device 900 in accordance with examples as disclosed herein. The processor 902 may be configured to operable to support a means for receiving, from a base station, configuration information comprising a first synchronization signal block (SSB) index set and a second SSB index set; a means for performing measurements on an actual transmitted SSB index set, wherein the actual transmitted SSB index set is the first SSB index set or the second SSB index set; and a means for transmitting, to the base station, a preamble in a random access channel (RACH) occasion (RO) in a random access procedure, wherein at least one of the actual transmitted SSB index set, the RO or the preamble is determined based on the configuration information.

[0199] In another example, the processor 902 may support wireless communication at the device 900 in accordance with examples as disclosed herein. The processor 902 may be configured to operable to support a means transmitting, to a user equipment (UE) , configuration information comprising a first synchronization signal block (SSB) index set and a second SSB index set; a means for transmitting, to the UE, SSBs on an actual transmitted SSB index set, wherein the actual transmitted SSB index set is the first SSB index set or the second SSB index set; and a means for receiving, from the UE, a preamble in a random access channel (RACH) occasion (RO) in a random access procedure, wherein at least one of the actual transmitted SSB index set, the RO or the preamble is determined based on the configuration information.

[0200] The processor 902 may include an intelligent hardware device (e.g., a general-purpose processor, a DSP, a CPU, a microcontroller, an ASIC, an FPGA, a programmable logic device, a discrete gate or transistor logic component, a discrete hardware component, or any combination thereof) . In some implementations, the processor 902 may be configured to operate a memory array using a memory controller. In some other implementations, a memory controller may be integrated into the processor 902. The processor 902 may be configured to execute computer-readable instructions stored in a memory (e.g., the memory 904) to cause the device 900 to perform various functions of the present disclosure.

[0201] The memory 904 may include random access memory (RAM) and read-only memory (ROM) . The memory 904 may store computer-readable, computer-executable code including instructions that, when executed by the processor 902 cause the device 900 to perform various functions described herein. The code may be stored in a non-transitory computer-readable medium such as system memory or another type of memory. In some implementations, the code may not be directly executable by the processor 902 but may cause a computer (e.g., when compiled and executed) to perform functions described herein. In some implementations, the memory 904 may include, among other things, a basic I / O system (BIOS) which may control basic hardware or software operation such as the interaction with peripheral components or devices.

[0203] In some implementations, the device 900 may include a single antenna 910. However, in some other implementations, the device 900 may have more than one antenna 910 (i.e., multiple antennas) , including multiple antenna panels or antenna arrays, which may be capable of concurrently transmitting or receiving multiple wireless transmissions. The transceiver 906 may communicate bi-directionally, via the one or more antennas 910, wired, or wireless links as described herein. For example, the transceiver 906 may represent a wireless transceiver and may communicate bi-directionally with another wireless transceiver. The transceiver 906 may also include a modem to modulate the packets, to provide the modulated packets to one or more antennas 910 for transmission, and to demodulate packets received from the one or more antennas 910. The transceiver 906 may include one or more transmit chains, one or more receive chains, or a combination thereof.

[0204] A transmit chain may be configured to generate and transmit signals (e.g., control information, data, packets) . The transmit chain may include at least one modulator for modulating data onto a carrier signal, preparing the signal for transmission over a wireless medium. The at least one modulator may be configured to support one or more techniques such as amplitude modulation (AM) , frequency modulation (FM) , or digital modulation schemes like phase-shift keying (PSK) or quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) . The transmit chain may also include at least one power amplifier configured to amplify the modulated signal to an appropriate power level suitable for transmission over the wireless medium. The transmit chain may also include one or more antennas 910 for transmitting the amplified signal into the air or wireless medium.
