Abstract

A shopping basket wrapper (100), configured to circumferentially envelop a shopping basket (1). The shopping basket wrapper (100) comprises: a sheet (110) having a first pair (111a, 111b) and a second pair (112a, 112b) of opposing ends; at least one adhesive strip (120) provided with an adhesive liner (121). The second pair of opposing ends (112a, 112b) of the sheet are joined to form the shopping basket wrapper (100) such that each adhesive strips (120) are comprised on an inward facing side of the shopping basket wrapper (100). There is further provided a method for attaching the shopping basket wrapper (100) to a shopping basket (1).

[0003] The present invention relates to the field of enabling advertisement surfaces such as advertisement screens or frames and the attaching thereof to a shopping basket.

[0004] BACKGROUND

[0005] Advertisement is today a core marketing tool utilized in promoting and influencing customer purchase behavior. In physical stores substantially any surface may be used for the display of advertisement. One example is digital displays which may be wall mounted to display advertisement in the form of eye-catching graphical animations. Other examples of surfaces which may be used to display advertisement is shopping carts or shopping baskets used by costumers which commonly are provided with screen or leaflets decorated with printed advertisement. ES 1079155U provides an example of a cover attached to the handle of a shopping basket. A problem with advertisement surfaces available on shopping baskets today is that a relatively small surface area of the shopping basket is utilized to display advertisement, hence these types of advertisement surfaces typically fail in delivering an eye-catching advertisement. A further problem with advertisement surfaces on shopping baskets is that it may be cumbersome to replace the displayed advertisement which in turn is associated with undesired costs. Accordingly, there is a need for a new technology which can enable advertisement surfaces on shopping baskets, which advertisement surfaces are both eye-catching and easily replaceable.

[0007] It is an object of the present invention to provide a solution to at least some of the deficiencies of the state of the art as described in the background section above.

[0008] According to a first aspect of the invention, there is provided a shopping basket wrapper configured to circumferentially envelop a shopping basket. The shopping basket wrapper comprises:

[0009] a pliable sheet having a first pair and a second pair of opposing ends;

[0010] at least one adhesive strip provided with an adhesive liner and extending along at least one of the opposing ends of the first pair of opposing ends of the sheet, or a plurality of adhesive strips provided with adhesive liners, wherein each adhesive strip of the pluralityof adhesive strips has an extension along a respective line, which lines each intersect the ends of the first pair of opposing ends; wherein

[0011] the second pair of opposing ends of the sheet are joined to form the shopping basket wrapper such that each adhesive strip is comprised on an inward facing side of the shopping basket wrapper.

[0012] Accordingly, there is provided a shopping basket wrapper which may be used to circumferentially envelop a shopping basket, i.e., an outside of the shopping basket. The circumferential enveloping of the shopping basket by the shopping basket wrapper provides a continuous advertisement surface extending around the shopping basket in at least one direction encompassing each of the four sides of a shopping basket. The continuous advertisement surface effectively merges the different sides of the shopping basket into one common advertisement surface onto which an advertising message may be displayed, i.e., printed. The merging of the different sides of the shopping basket into one continuous surface enables an eye-catching advertisement surface compared to the advertisement surfaces enabled by the prior art. Furthermore, the continuous surface enables an increased diversity to the design of the advertising message as it may be designed with the continuous advertising surface in mind. The adhesive strips of the shopping basket wrapper enable an easy attachment of the shopping basket wrapper to a shopping basket while further enabling an easy removal of the shopping basket wrapper.

[0013] Before the second pair of opposing ends of the sheet are joined to form the final shape of the shopping basket wrapper, the sheet may be regarded as a two dimensionally extending sheet. The sheet may be comprised of paper, or plastic, and the dimensions of the extensions of the sheet are determined based on the dimensions of the shopping basket which the shopping basket wrapper is to circumferentially envelop. By the meaning of circumferentially envelope, it is here meant that the shopping basket wrapper may be configured to envelope at least a portion of a shopping basket circumferentially, i.e., as a ribbon or a strip. Accordingly, the overall shape of the shopping basket wrapper, which shape is determined by the extension of the pliable sheet, may for example correspond to an outside surface of a shopping basket, such that a tight or snug fit is enabled between the shopping basket wrapper and the shopping basket when the shopping basket wrapper is arranged over, i.e., envelops, an outside of the shopping basket.

[0014] Shopping baskets are commonly designed to be stackable one inside another, for this reason, a tight or snug fit according to the above is important as the shopping basketwrapper otherwise could interfere with the stacking of shopping baskets. To further limit any adverse effect on the stacking of shopping baskets, the shopping basket wrapper, i.e., the sheet, may have a surface coating on an outward facing surface thereof, enabling a slippery surface. The slippery surface may reduce any friction between the outward facing side of the shopping basket wrapper and a second shopping basket which the shopping basket wrapper may be brought into contact with during a stacking of shopping baskets.

[0015] While the exact dimensions, i.e., lengths, of the extensions of the sheet of the shopping basket wrapper may be dependent on the shape of the shopping basket which the shopping basket wrapper is to envelop, the extension of the sheet may generally be defined by a first pair of opposing ends and a second pair of opposing ends. The second pair of ends are configured to be joined end to end, or by the means of an overlap. Hence, the second pair of opposing have the same lengths, which lengths may determine a width of the circumferentially extending sheet, i.e., the width of the shopping basket wrapper. Meanwhile, the first pair of opposing ends of the sheet defines two opposing ends of the shopping basket wrapper, for example an upper end and a lower end of the shopping basket wrapper. Accordingly, the lengths of the first pair of opposing ends determine a respective perimeter of the shopping basket wrapper at the upper and lower ends of the shopping basket wrapper, and the length of the second pair of opposing ends determines the width of the shopping basket wrapper.

[0016] While the second pair of opposing ends of the sheet may have the same lengths, the two ends of the first pair of opposing ends may have either the same lengths or different lengths. If the two ends of the first pair of opposing ends have different lengths, the respective perimeters at the upper and lower ends of the shopping basket wrapper will be different. Most shopping baskets are defined by having an upper perimeter which is longer and separated a distance from a corresponding bottom perimeter. Such a relationship between the upper and bottom perimeters of a shopping basket enables shopping baskets to be stacked one inside of the other. The distance separating the upper and bottom perimeters of a shopping basket, and the difference between the upper and bottom perimeters may be used to express a shape defining ratio of a shopping basket. When determining the relative lengths of the ends of the first and second pairs of opposing ends of the sheet of the shopping basket wrapper, the respective lengths may be selected such that a shape defining ratio of the shopping basket wrapper, i.e., a ratio between the length of the second pair of opposing ends and the difference in length between the first pair ofopposing ends, corresponds to a shape defining ratio of a shopping basket which the shopping basket wrapper is to envelop. Ensuring that the shopping basket and the shopping basket wrapper have corresponding, i.e., matching, shape defining ratios ensures that the shopping basket wrapper achieves a tight or snug fit when enveloping the shopping basket.

[0017] Shopping baskets commonly have four sides and a bottom. Each side of a shopping basket may have an upper end and opposing bottom end wherein the upper end is longer than the bottom end. Accordingly, each side of a shopping basket may have a trapezoidal shape. Hence, the pliable sheet may be comprised of a plurality of trapezoidal portions. The trapezoidal portions of the sheet may be connected one after the other wherein each trapezoidal portion of the shopping basket wrapper correspond to a matching side of the shopping basket.

[0018] The shopping basket wrapper is configured to be secured to a shopping basket by the means of one or more adhesive strips arranged on an inward facing side of the shopping basket wrapper. To avoid an adhesion to the shopping basket before the shopping basket wrapper has been correctly arranged over the shopping basket, each of the one or more adhesive strips may be provided with an adhesive liner configured to cover the adhesive of the adhesive strip. Accordingly, any adhesion between the shopping basket wrapper and the shopping basket is enabled only after first removing the adhesive liner of the adhesive strips. The one or more adhesive strips may be arranged to extend along, i.e., parallel to, at least one of the ends of the first pair of opposing ends of the sheet, in other words, along the upper and / or lower ends of the shopping basket wrapper. The one or more adhesive strips may be a plurality of adhesive strips intermittently extending along at least one of the ends of the first pairs of opposing ends of the sheet, and each of the plurality of adhesive strips may be provided with an associated adhesive liner. Alternatively, the plurality of adhesive strips may be provided a common adhesive liner. For shopping basket wrappers wherein the pliable sheet is comprised of a plurality of trapezoidal portions, a respective extension of the plurality of intermittently extending adhesive strips may correspond to an extension of an associated trapezoidal portion along said at least one end of the first pair of opposing ends of the sheet.

[0019] Alternatively, or in combination with adhesive strips extending along the ends of the first pair of opposing ends, adhesive strips may also be arranged to extend along a respective line which intersects the first pair of opposing ends. For example, the adhesive strips may be arranged to have an extension along a line which is perpendicular to each ofthe two ends of the first pair of opposing ends. However, the adhesive strips may be arranged along any line forming an angle with the two ends of the first pair of opposing ends.

[0020] The ends of the adhesive liners may be provided with a tab for easy removal of the liner, wherein said tab for easy removal of the liner is arranged to extend past a border of the wrapper, wherein the border of the wrapper is defined by the first pair of opposing ends of the sheet. By arranging the tab to extend past an extension of the sheet of the shopping basket wrapper, the removal of the adhesive liner when the shopping basket wrapper is correctly arranged over, i.e., when it envelopes the shopping basket, is greatly improved as the adhesive liner otherwise would be obscured in between the shopping basket wrapper and the shopping basket. Accordingly, providing each adhesive liner with a tab which extend past the extension of the sheet of the shopping basket wrapper facilitates an easy removal of the adhesive liner when attaching the shopping basket wrapper to a shopping basket.

[0021] The removal of the adhesive liner may be improved further by having the tab for easy removal being connected to the adhesive liner via a kink in the adhesive liner. By the meaning of kink in this regard, it is here meant that the adhesive liner is double backed on itself, in so forming a kink in the liner connecting the tab with the rest of the adhesive liner. The kink formed in the liner by this doubling back of the adhesive liner constitutes a premade rolling edge of the adhesive liner, which rolling edge may progresses along the adhesive strip when pulling on the tab for easy removal. Accordingly, the premade rolling edge, i.e., the kink, reduces the strain put on the adhesive liner when pulling on the tab for easy removal, thereby reducing the risk of rupturing either the adhesive liner, or the shopping basket wrapper, during the removal of the adhesive liner. The kink in the liner is typically associated with an extreme end of the extension of an adhesive strip, and the tab is always arranged to extend past an extension of the sheet. The tab for easy removal of the liner may be arranged in a vicinity of the kink. Alternatively, the tab may be arranged at a distance from the kink and its associated extreme end of the adhesive strip. For example, a shopping basket wrapper comprising an adhesive strip arranged to extend perpendicularly to the first pair of opposing ends may have a kink in the adhesive liner at a first extreme end of an adhesive strip, for example in the vicinity of a lower end of the shopping basket wrapper, meanwhile, the tab for easy removal may be arranged at an opposing second extreme end of the adhesive strip, for example at the upper end of the shopping basket wrapper. Regardless whether the tab is arranged in a vicinity of, or at a distance from, thekink in the liner, it is to be understood that the tab is connected to the kink in the liner via a portion of doubled back liner.

[0022] According to a second aspect of the invention, there is provided a method for attaching a shopping basket wrapper to a shopping basket. The features and functionalities of the shopping basket wrapper has thoroughly been described above. As the features and functionality of the shopping basket wrapper are equally applicable to the method of attaching the shopping basket wrapper to a shopping basket, reference is given to the section above to avoid unduly repetition.

[0038] For an improved understanding of the technology, the main elements of the shopping basket wrapper will be discussed below with reference to the figures, beginning with Fig. 1 showing an embodiment of a shopping basket wrapper 100 which may be used to circumferentially envelop a shopping basket 1, i.e., an outside of the shopping basket 1. By the meaning of circumferentially envelope, it is here meant that the shopping basket wrapper 100 is configured to envelope at least a portion of the shopping basket 1 circumferentially, i.e., as a ribbon or a strip. The circumferential enveloping of the shopping basket 1 by the shopping basket wrapper 100 provides a continuous advertisement surface 101 extending around the shopping basket 1 in at least one direction encompassing each of the four sides of a shopping basket 1. The continuous advertisement surface 101 effectively merges the different sides of the shopping basket 1 into one common advertisement surface 101 onto which an advertising message may be displayed, i.e., printed. The merging of the different sides of the shopping basket 1 into one continuous surface enables an eyecatching advertisement surface 101.

Here, the sheet 110 may be regarded as extending in two dimensions, wherein the dimensions of the extensions of the sheet 110 are determined based on the dimensions of the shopping basket which the shopping basket wrapper is to circumferentially envelop. The second pair of opposing ends 112a ,112b of the sheet 110 are configured to be joined end to end, or by the means of an overlap. Typically, an adhesive, or a welding, may be used for the joining of the second pair of opposing ends 112a, 112b. The second pair of opposing ends 112a, 112b have the same lengths, which lengths determines a width x of the sheet 110, and hence the width W of the shopping basket wrapper 100 as shown in Fig. 1. Meanwhile, the first pair of opposing ends Illa, 111b of the sheet 110 defines two opposing ends of the shopping basket wrapper 100, for example an upper end 102 and a lower end 103 of the shopping basket wrapper 100. Accordingly, the lengths of the first pair of opposing ends Illa, 111b determine a respective perimeter of the shopping basket wrapper 100 at the upper end 102 and the lower end 103 of the shopping basket wrapper 100, while the lengths of the second pair of opposing ends 112a, 112b determine the distance between the upper and lower ends 103, 102 of the shopping basket wrapper 100 i.e., the width W of the shopping basket wrapper 100. In the embodiment pertaining to Figs. 1 and 2, one of the ends of the first pair of opposing ends Illa, 111b, in the present example Illa, is longer than the other, resulting in that the perimeter of the upper end 102 of the shopping basket wrapper 100 in Fig. 1 has a larger perimeter compared to the lower end 103 of the shopping basket wrapper 100.

[0041] The shopping basket 1 shown in Fig. 1 has four sides and a bottom wherein each side of the shopping basket 1 has a respective upper end which is longer than an associated opposing bottom end. Accordingly, each side of the shopping basket 10 has a trapezoidal shape. The pliable sheet 110 shown in Fig. 2 can be seen to be comprised of a plurality of trapezoidal portions A, B, C, D, wherein the trapezoidal portions A, B, C, D of the sheet 110 are connected one after the other, and wherein the shape of each trapezoidal portion A, B, C, D is associated with a matching side of the shopping basket 10.

[0042] The shopping basket wrapper 100 is configured to be secured to the shopping basket 1 by the means of one or more adhesive strips 120 arranged on an inward facing sideof the shopping basket wrapper 100. Referring to the embodiment shown in Fig 1, the shopping basket wrapper 100 comprises adhesive strips 120 provided with adhesive liners 121, which adhesive liners are each provided with a tab 122 for easy removal of the liner 121. The adhesive strips 120 extend along each of the first pair of opposing ends of the sheet, i.e., along the upper and lower ends 102, 103 of the shopping basket wrapper 100. Fig.3 shows the extension of the adhesive strips 120 along the sheet 110 before the second pair of opposing ends 112a, 112b of the sheet 110 have been joined to form the final shape of the shopping basket wrapper lOO.The tabs 122 of the adhesive liner 120 are arranged to extend past the extension of the sheet 110. Consequently, the tabs 122 for easy removal of the liner 121 are configured to extend past a border of the shopping basket wrapper 100, as shown in Fig. 3, e.g., past the upper or lower ends 102, 103 of the wrapper 100 as shown in Fig. 4a.

[0043] The adhesive liners 121 of the adhesive strips 120 are configured to prevent any adhesion between the shopping basket 1 and the shopping basket wrapper 100 before the shopping basket wrapper 100 has been correctly arranged over the shopping basket 1. Accordingly, any adhesion between the shopping basket wrapper 100 and the shopping basket 1 is enabled only after first removing the adhesive liners 121 from the adhesive strips 120. Fig. 4a illustrates the situation where the shopping basket wrapper 100 is correctly arranged over, i.e., when the shopping basket wrapper 100 envelopes, a shopping basket 1. The tabs 122 which extend past the extension of the sheet 110 of the shopping basket wrapper 100, i.e., past the upper and lower ends 102, 103 of the shopping basket wrapper 100, greatly facilitates the removal of the adhesive liner 121 which otherwise would be obscured in between the shopping basket wrapper 100 and the shopping basket 1. Fig. 4b illustrates an example, when the adhesive liners 121 are being removed by a pulling on their associated tabs 122, as indicated by the arrows.

[0044] In some embodiments, as shown in Fig. 5, the one or more adhesive strips 120 may be a plurality of adhesive strips 120 arranged to intermittently extend along at least one of the ends of the first pair of opposing ends Illa, 111b of the sheet 110, wherein each of the plurality of adhesive strips 120 is provided with an associated adhesive liner 121. In the present example, wherein the sheet 110 is comprised of a plurality of trapezoidal portions A, B, C, D, the respective extensions of the plurality of intermittently extending adhesive strips 120 correspond to an extension of an associated trapezoidal portion A, B, C, D along said at least one end Illa of the first pair of opposing ends of the sheet 110.Fig. 6 shows a further embodiment wherein the one or more adhesive strips 120 are arranged to extend along a respective line 130 which intersects the ends of the first pair of opposing ends Illa, 111b. In the present example, the adhesive strips 120 are arranged to have an extension along a line 130 which is perpendicular to the extensions of two ends of the first pair of opposing ends Illa, 111b. In the present example, the adhesive strips 120 in Fig. 6 are arranged in the vicinity of portions of the sheet 110 which are configured to receive a respective corner portion of a shopping basket when attached thereto.

[0045] The removal of the adhesive liner 121 may be further facilitated by having the tab 122 for easy removal connected to the adhesive liner 121 via a kink in the adhesive liner 121. Fig. 7a and b illustrate the shopping basket 1, and the shopping basket wrapper 100 in cross section, and shows the concept of utilizing a kink 123 in the liner 121 to further facilitate the removal of the adhesive liner 121. The kink 123 in the liner 121 is defined as a doubling-back of the liner 121 on itself. The kink 123 formed by this doubling-back of the adhesive liner 121 constitutes a premade rolling edge 124 of the adhesive liner 121, which rolling edge 124 progresses along the adhesive strip 120 when pulling on the tab 122 for easy removal of the adhesive liner 121 as indicated by the arrows in Fig. 7b. In the present example, the adhesive liner 120 is arranged according to the embodiment of Fig. 6 wherein the adhesive liner 121 extends between the lower end 103 and an upper end 102 of the shopping basket wrapper 100. The kink 123 in the adhesive liner 121 is arranged at the extreme end of the adhesive strip 120, i.e., at the lower end 103 of the shopping basket wrapper 100, and the tab 122 is arranged to extend past the boarder of the shopping basket wrapper, i.e., past the upper end 102 of the shopping basket wrapper 100.

[0046] Now moving on to Fig. 8 which shows a flow diagram of steps according to a method of attaching a shopping basket wrapper to a shopping basket. The method comprises:

Claims

CLAIMS1. A shopping basket wrapper (100) configured to circumferentially envelop a shopping basket (1), the shopping basket wrapper (100) comprising:- a pliable sheet (110) having a first pair (Illa, 111b) and a second pair (112a, 112b) of opposing ends;- at least one adhesive strip (120) provided with an adhesive liner (121) and extending along at least one of the ends of the first pair of opposing ends (Illa, 111b) of the sheet (110), or a plurality of adhesive strips (120) provided with adhesive liners (121) wherein each adhesive strip (120) have an extension along a respective line (130), which lines (130) each intersect the first pair of opposing ends (Illa, 111b); and whereinthe second pair of opposing ends (112a, 112b) of the sheet are joined to form the shopping basket wrapper (100) such that each adhesive strip (120) is comprised on an inward facing side of the shopping basket wrapper (100).2 The shopping basket wrapper (100) according to claim 1, wherein an end of the adhesive liner (121) is provided with a tab (122) for easy removal of the liner (121), wherein said tab (122) for easy removal of the liner (121) is configured to extend past a border of the wrapper (100), wherein the border of the wrapper (100) is defined by the first pair of opposing ends (Illa, 111b) of the sheet (110).

3. The shopping basket wrapper (100) according to claim 2, wherein the tab (122) for easy removal of the liner (120) is connected to the adhesive liner (120) via a kink (123) in the liner (120).

The shopping basket wrapper (100) according to anyone of claims 1 to 3 wherein the shopping basket wrapper (100) comprises a plurality of adhesive strips (120) intermittently extending along at least one of the ends of the first pairs of opposing ends (Illa, 111b) of the sheet (110), and wherein each of the plurality of adhesive strips (100) are provided with an associated adhesive liner (121).

5. The shopping basket wrapper (100) according to any one of claims 1 to 4, wherein the pliable sheet (110) is comprised of a plurality of trapezoidal portions (A, B, C, D).

The shopping basket wrapper (100) according to claim 4, wherein the pliable sheet (110) is comprised of a plurality of trapezoidal portions (A, B, C, D), and wherein a respective extension of the plurality of intermittently extending adhesive strips (120) corresponds to an extension of an associated trapezoidal portion (A, B, C, D) along said at least one of the ends of the first pair of opposing ends (Illa, 111b) of the sheet (110).

7. A method of attaching a shopping basket wrapper (100) to circumferentially envelop a basket of a shopping basket (1), the method comprising:- arranging (SI) the shopping basket wrapper (100) to circumferentially envelop the basket of the shopping basket (1);- removing (S2) an adhesive liner (121) from an adhesive strip (120) arranged on an inward facing side of the shopping basket wrapper (100), facing the shopping basket (1).

8. The method according to claim 7 , wherein the removing (S2) of the adhesive liner (121) from the adhesive strip (120) comprises pulling (S21) an exposed tab (122) of the adhesive liner (121) for easy removal of the adhesive liner (121).
