[0002] The present invention relates to a stable synergistic herbicidal composition comprising bioactive amounts of herbicidal compounds. In particular, the present invention relates to a stable synergistic herbicidal composition comprising A) a compound of Formula I, i.e., 2-(2,4-dichlorobenzyl)-4,4-dimethylisoxazolidin-3-one or its agrochemically acceptable salts, esters and derivatives; B) a compound of Formula II, i.e., 2-({[(4,6-dimethoxypyrimidin-2-yl)carbamoyl]sulfamoyl}amino)-N,N-dimethylbenzamide or its agrochemically acceptable salts, esters and derivatives; and C) a compound of Formula III, i.e., 3-(2,2-difluoroethoxy)-N-(5,8-dimethoxy[1,2,4]triazolo[1,5-c]pyrimidin-2-yl)-α,α,α-trifluorotoluene-2-sulfonamide or its agrochemically acceptable salts, esters or its derivatives for synergistic and effective control of wide range of weeds or undesired vegetation in various crops. The present invention also relates to a process for preparation of such stable herbicidal composition for synergistic and efficacious control of wide range of weeds or undesired vegetation in various crops.

[0003] BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0004] In the field of agriculture science and the activities associated with its management, farmers have struggled with the presence of weeds in their fields since the beginning of agriculture. There have been many persisting problems that a person indulged in the field of agriculture faces but weeds can be considered one of the most problematic issues because they tend to decrease crop yields by increasing competition for water, sunlight and nutrients. Weeds have been a significant problem to counter in order to sustain agricultural production systems. Timely and systematic management of weeds is a crucial aspect and practice, as it enables farmers to effectively control the growth of unwanted vegetation and ensure that desired crop which is cultivated intentionally faces minimal competition for nutrients, water, light and space thereby resulting in improved crop growth and enhanced yield. Therefore, efficient weed control remains indispensable for achieving optimal crop performance and ensuring sustainable agricultural output.

[0005] Herbicides with different mode of actions and different spectra of activities have been widely adopted in modern agriculture due to their proven effectiveness, reliability, and economic advantages. The use of herbicides has significantly improved weed control efficiency, reduced dependence on manual labor, and enabled large-scale cultivation across diverse cropping systems. However, due to the diversity of weed flora, variations in cropping patterns, and differences in weed emergence stages, a single herbicidal active ingredient often fails to provide comprehensive and consistent control. Certain herbicides exhibit limited weed spectrum, reduced efficacy at specific growth stages, or variable performance across different environmental and agronomic conditions. Additionally, repeated use of herbicides having similar modes of action may result in reduced sensitivity of certain weed species, thereby necessitating improved herbicidal strategies. Furthermore, some herbicides are even found to causing harm to the desired crop and delay or retard their maturity and also affect their natural physiology. Further, herbicides are also found to inflict damages to the soil and its associated micro-environment as well as deplete the nutrients from the soil.

[0006] To address these challenges, herbicidal combinations have gained importance in modern weed management programs. Combining herbicides with different yet complementary modes of action can broaden the weed control spectrum, enhance overall efficacy, improve crop selectivity, and provide more reliable control across post-emergence stages. Moreover, well-formulated herbicidal combinations enable effective weed control at lower application rates, improved formulation performance, and better distribution within the target zone.

[0007] Although several herbicidal combinations are known in the art, many of the existing combinations still suffer from limitations such as incomplete weed spectrum coverage, inconsistent control of grasses, sedges, broad-leaved and aquatic weeds using a single formulation, sub-optimal performance across different application timings, and formulation challenges related to dispersibility, solubility, and uniform settlement in the target area.

[0008] Prior art CN103960258A, discloses a herbicidal composition comprising penoxsulam, oxadiargyl and clomazone.

[0009] Further references can be made to EP2685829B1, which discloses a binary composition comprising penoxsulam and (b) pyroxsulam in a ratio of 1: 15 to 20: 1.

[0010] Accordingly, there remains a need for improved herbicidal compositions that provide broadspectrum weed control, enhanced efficacy, crop compatibility, and formulation stability in a single composition. In view of the above, the stable synergistic herbicidal composition of thepresent invention comprises active ingredients having distinct and complementary mechanisms of action that collectively deliver superior weed control compared to their individual use.

[0011] Furthermore, the stable synergistic herbicidal composition of the present invention is environmental friendly, more selective towards the target plants and crops, cost-effective, have non-harming impact on environment and human health, minimal or no accumulation in soil, water bodies and unintended organisms, show high dispersibility, good solubility (that requires lesser water consumption), replenishing the nutrient in soil, easily setting into the target area (i.e., effectively reachable to the seed zone to be effective against weeds) and can be used to protect crops during critical growing seasons and can affect broad spectrum of weeds and does not enable resistance to the weeds and helps in achieving high crop efficiency.

[0012] Stable synergistic herbicidal composition of the present invention comprises two structurally and functionally distinct ALS inhibitors creates a multi-site biochemical stress within weed plants. Compound of formula I induces metabolic disruption and pigment loss, weakening weed physiology and reducing the plant’s ability to detoxify or compensate for ALS inhibition. Simultaneously, Compound of Formula II and Compound of Formula III act on the essential amino acid biosynthesis pathway, preventing recovery and regrowth.

[0013] A compound of Formula I, belong to the class of isoxazolidinone and is chemically known as 2-(2,4-dichlorobenzyl)-4,4-dimethylisoxazolidin-3-one. It exhibits carotenoid biosynthesis inhibition activity with both systemic and contact activity. It is mainly used in cereals including but not limited to winter wheat, winter barley, maize; legumes; oilseed rape; rice, sugarcane, etc and shows high efficacy in controlling weeds like annual grass weeds, Ryegrass; Blackgrass; Broadleaved weeds; grass weeds, etc.

[0014] Furthermore, a compound of Formula II, belonging to the chemical group of pyrimidinylsulfonylurea. It has the chemical name as 2-({[(4,6-dimethoxypyrimidin-2-yl)carbamoyl]sulfamoyl}amino)-N,N-dimethylbenzamide, and shows to have better herbicidal activity, specifically used to control weeds including but not limited to Sedges including flatsedge; Grass weeds including Barnyard grass; Velvetleaf; among many others, and agricultural crops like Rice and other crops in comparison to other known herbicides.

[0015] In addition to the above, a class of herbicides i.e., triazolopyrimidine herbicides that not only works in broad spectrum, but is also shown as high effective as it exhibits knockdown and residual control and is absorbed mainly by leaves and, to lesser extent, roots and translocated.Furthermore, it is highly effective in inhibiting the plant amino acid synthesis i.e., acetohydroxy acid synthase (AHAS).

[0016] Furthermore, a compound of Formula III, belonging to the chemical group of triazolopyrimidine, is a highly effective post-emergence herbicide used on rice crops for the control of broad-leaved weeds, aquatic weeds and certain grasses. It has the chemical name as 3-(2,2-difluoroethoxy)-N-(5,8-dimethoxy[1,2,4]triazolo[1,5-c]pyrimidin-2-yl)-α,α,α-trifluorotoluene-2-sulfonamide. It is highly effective against Sedges; Broad-leaved weeds including loosestrife, chickweed and clover; Aquatic weeds including water plaintain and water hyacinth; Certain grasses including barnyardgrass, young watergrass, annual blackgrass and buckwheat, etc, and is not only applicable to rice crops but also to lawns; Cereals; Orchards; Olives; Chicory, etc. It performs its function by inhibiting plant amino acid synthesis -acetohydroxy acid synthase AHAS.

[0017] In order to mitigate the resistance-related issues, an effective composition with various active chemicals is created. As a result, research and developmental efforts have been focussed on creating an herbicidal composition that is broad-spectrum, ecologically safe, show good solubility, requires lesser water consumption, replenishes the nutrient in soil, settles easily into the target area and is effective even at low concentrations, less prone to weed-resistance, stable, synergistic, and more successful at controlling weeds in crops and is more economic.

[0018] Therefore, the present invention aims to develop a stable synergistic herbicidal composition, which results in broader weed spectrum of action. Thus, the present invention provides a stable synergistic herbicidal composition for protecting plants, crops against unwanted weeds.

[0019] The present invention not only satisfies but also exceeds the existing needs, and generally overcomes the deficiencies found in the prior art. The herbicidal composition of the present invention is synergistic, efficacious, environment friendly, simple to formulate, stable, safe to use and has longer shelf life.

[0020] Thus, the herbicidal composition of the present invention aims to overcome the problems of the prior art and provides a stable synergistic herbicidal composition comprising A) a compound of Formula I, i.e., 2-(2,4-dichlorobenzyl)-4,4-dimethylisoxazolidin-3-one or its agrochemically acceptable salts, esters and derivatives; B) a compound of Formula II, i.e., 2-({[(4,6-dimethoxypyrimidin-2-yl)carbamoyl]sulfamoyl}amino)-N, N-dimethylbenzamide orits agrochemically acceptable salts, esters and derivatives; and C) a compound of Formula III, i.e., 3-(2,2-difluoroethoxy)-N-(5,8-dimethoxy[l,2,4]triazolo[l,5-c]pyrimidin-2-yl)-a,a,a-trifluorotoluene-2-sulfonamide its agrochemically acceptable salts, esters or its derivatives for synergistic and effective control of wide range of weeds or undesired vegetation in various crops.

[0183] In one embodiment, additives such as Siloxane Polyalkyleneoxide Copolymer or an organosilicone based powder adjuvant that can enhance the water absorption efficiency of hard-to-wet soils by increasing their water infiltration, drainage, water retention and hydrophilicity; tallow amine ethoxylate increases the biocompatibility in environmental applications and help in the interactions of active ingredients; ammonium sulphate help is resistant to leaching and helps the crop to utilize nitrogen efficiently; urea clathrate provides superior wetting and spray retention properties and serves as an excellent nitrogen source for crops and epoxide soybean oil provides increased active ingredient uptake and improved rain fastness to the composition; and epoxide soybean oil provides increased active ingredient uptake and improved rain fastness to the composition. The said additives are stable and hygroscopic resulting in an efficient uptake and functioning.

[0184] In one embodiment of the present invention, Siloxane Polyalkyleneoxide Copolymer has superspreading ability, it significantly lowers the surface tension of spray solutions, allowing them to spread uniformly across plant surfaces, including waxy or hard-to-wet leaves. This enhances the penetration and absorption of herbicides, leading to improved efficacy. Siloxane Polyalkyleneoxide Copolymer is especially effective in low-volume spray applications and helps increase rainfastness and reduce runoff. Its use supports more efficient herbicide delivery, often allowing for reduced application rates.

[0185] In one embodiment of the present invention, the inclusion of both an organosilicone-based powder and tallow amine ethoxylate in a formulation significantly enhances its surface activity and delivery efficiency. Siloxane Polyalkyleneoxide Copolymer, a trisiloxane-based super- spreader, dramatically reduces surface tension, enabling rapid and uniform spreading ofthe solution across plant surfaces, even on waxy or water-repellent leaves. In synergy, tallow amine ethoxylate, a non-ionic surfactant, acts as a powerful wetting and penetration agent, improving the absorption of active ingredients into plant tissues. This combination ensures maximum bioavailability and performance of herbicidal actives.

[0186] In one embodiment of the present invention, ammonium sulphate particularly as a water conditioner and adjuvant. It helps improve the efficacy of herbicides, by binding with hard water cations such as calcium and magnesium that would otherwise reduce herbicidal absorption and activity. By preventing these ions from interacting with the active ingredient, ammonium sulphate enhances uptake into plant tissues. It may also act as a nitrogen source, supporting plant growth.

[0187] In one embodiment of the present invention, Epoxide soybean oil, a bio -based plasticizer and solvent, improves formulation compatibility, reduces phyto toxicity, and enhances the dispersion of active compounds. Derived from renewable sources, both additives support sustainable agriculture by offering low toxicity, biodegradability, and improved formulation efficiency without compromising efficacy.

[0188] In one embodiment of the present invention, Siloxane Polyalkyleneoxide Copolymer, tallow amine ethoxylate, ammonium sulphate, and epoxide soybean oil are additives used individually or in combination to enhance the performance of herbicidal formulations. Siloxane Polyalkyleneoxide Copolymer, a superspreading organosilicone surfactant, reduces surface tension and improves leaf coverage and penetration of active ingredients. Tallow amine ethoxylates, as non-ionic surfactants, aid in emulsification and enhance herbicide uptake.

[0189] Ammonium sulphate serves as a water conditioner, preventing hard water ions from reducing herbicide efficacy, while also acting as a nitrogen source. Epoxide soybean oil, a biodegradable solvent and plasticizer, improves formulation stability, compatibility, and reduces phyto toxicity. Used alone or synergistically, these additives optimize spray performance, improve bioavailability of actives, and support sustainable and effective crop protection.

[0190] In one embodiment, additives such as urea clathrate, Siloxane Polyalkyleneoxide Copolymer or Siloxane Polyalkyleneoxide Copolymer super-wetter, tallow amine ethoxylate, ammonium sulphate, and epoxide soybean oil either alone or in combination thereof, present in the range of 0.001 - 20% by weight of the composition. The composition of the present invention can also comprise or may be applied together and / or sequentially with further active compounds. These further compounds can be selected from fertilizers or micronutrient donors or microorganisms or other preparations that influence plant growth, such as inoculants (e.g., a strain of nitrogen-fixing bacteria), and plant inducers. In an embodiment of the present invention, the stable synergistic herbicidal composition further optionally comprises additives and / or adjuvants, for providing the following attributes to the composition of present invention:

[0191] a) enhanced stability and permeability, enhanced efficacy and enhanced applicability, b) improved penetration capacity, better flowability, and reduced foaming,

[0391] MANUFACTURING PROCESS:

[0392] China clay was taken in the ribbon blender for mixing. To this, Silica ppt, Sodium Isopropyl Naphthalene Sulfonate, Sodium Lignosulphonate, Sodium salt of naphthalene sulfonate formaldehyde condensate, Sodium Polycarboxylate, Lactose monohydrate, Safener, Compound of Formula I technical, Compound of Formula II technical, Compound of Formula III technical were added and mixed well.

[0393] Mixing was continued until the material became completely homogenized. The premix was then passed through the Airjet mill at 6 to 7 kg / cm2of grinding pressure and a feeding rate of 100 to 150 kg / hr so as to obtain a particle size of D90 less than 10 microns. The ground material was collected in the post blender.

[0394] Extrusion process

[0395] Into the post blender, the solution of water and Polydimethylsiloxane emulsion was added by means of spraying, and a dough was prepared. This dough was mixed well to obtain a well-hydrated mass for extrusion. The dough was then allowed to pass through the screw valve fitted with the post blender and subsequently passed through the basket extruder.

[0396] Drying Process

[0397] The wet extruded granules were passed through the VFBG (vibro fluid bed drier), which had been brought to a consistent temperature of 50 °C prior to drying. The granules were then checked for moisture content, which was required to be not more than 3%. Once the parameter was set, the process was continued.

[0398] The dried granules were passed through a vibro sieve machine to separate any lumps or dust, and the desired size granules were collected and packed.

[0479] Experiment for Bio-efficacy evaluation of Stable Synergistic Herbicidal Composition of present invention:

[0480] A synergistic effect of two or more components exists whenever the action of an active ingredient combination is greater than the sum of the actions of the individual components. Synergism was calculated by using Colby’s method (Weeds, vol. 15 No. 1 (Jan 1967), pp. 20-2.The synergistic action expected for a given combination of two active components can be calculated as follows:

[0481] XY

[0482] E = (X + Y) - - 100

[0483] The synergistic action expected for a given combination of three active components can be calculated as follows:

[0484] (XY+YZ+XZ) (XYZ)

[0485] E = (X + Y + Z) - - + - 100 10000

[0486] Where:

[0487] E represents expected percentage of herbicidal control for the combination of the two or three active ingredients at defined doses (for example equal to x, y and z, respectively).

[0488] X is the percentage of herbicidal control observed by the compound (Compound of Formula I) at a defined dose (equal to x).

[0489] Y is the percentage of herbicidal control observed by the compound (Compound of Formula II) at a defined dose (equal to y).

[0490] Z is the percentage of herbicidal control observed by the compound (Compound of Formula III) at a defined dose (equal to z).

[0491] When the percentage of herbicidal control observed for the combination is greater than the expected percentage, there is a synergism effect.

[0492] Observed control (%)

[0493] Ratio = - Expected control (%)

[0494] Ratio of O / E > 1, synergism observed

[0495] The present invention is illustrated by way of examples, the examples are meant for illustrative purposes and should not be construed as limiting.

[0507] Treatments T1 to T28 were applied as foliar sprays, while T29 served as the untreated control.

[0508] Observations were recorded for Echinochloa colona under narrow-leaf weeds and Eclipta alba

[0509] under broad-leaf weeds, as these were the dominant and uniformly distributed weed species in

[0510] the experimental field. Although the test herbicide is effective against a wider spectrum of

[0511] grassy and broad-leaf weeds, observations and statistical analyses were confined to these two representative species for standardization and clarity of results. Weed population was assessed

[0512] at 30 days after application (DAA) using a 0.5 x 0.5 m (0.25 m2) quadrat placed at four random locations per plot and replicated thrice. The percent weed control efficiency (WCE) was calculated based on weed population (No. m-2). On the basis of percent WCE,

[0557] It is clearly evident from the data shown in above Table 1A for per cent weed control efficacy in rice crop that the stable synergistic herbicidal composition of the present invention comprising Compound of Formula I + Compound of Formula II + Compound of Formula III (T1 to T3) are synergistic for weed control with > 1 Colby’s Ratio. The binary combinations of two herbicides T5 to T16 are inefficacious and show no synergistic effect for the control ofweeds. The synergy data presented herein represents the cumulative efficacy against both weeds Echinochloa colona and Eclipta alba.

[0558] Experiment for Bio-efficacy evaluation of stable synergistic herbicidal composition of present invention:

[0559] For the ternary and binary herbicidal compositions based on Compound of Formula I + Compound of Formula II + Compound of Formula III evaluation under field conditions, the basic test composition as Compound of Formula I 26.67% + Compound of Formula II 3.2% + Compound of Formula III 1.5% was manufactured. For ternary herbicidal composition, Compound of Formula 126.67% + Compound of Formula II 3.2% + Compound of Formula III 1.5% SC was used and for binary composition Compound of Formula I 26.67% + Compound of Formula II 3.2% SC, Compound of Formula I 26.67% + Compound of Formula III 1.5% SC, Compound of Formula II 3.2% + Compound of Formula III 1.5% SC were used. The solo formulation of Compound of Formula I 26.67% SC, Compound of Formula II 3.2% SC and Compound of Formula III 1.5% SC and other formulations Compound of Formula I 4% GR, Compound of Formula II 50% WG, Compound of Formula III 21.7 % SC available in the market were used for comparison. Furthermore, these herbicide treatments were compared with untreated control treatments.

[0560] Example 2- Details of experiment on rice crop:

[0561] Field experiment for synergistic activity of Compound of Formula I, Compound of Formula II and Compound of Formula III for the control of weeds in rice crop was conducted.

[0601] Methodology:

[0602] Treatments T1 to T18 were applied as foliar sprays, while T19 served as weeds free treatments, T20 as untreated control and T21 served as sample only for Phytotoxicity analysis. A hand-operated knapsack sprayer fitted with a flat-fan nozzle was used for spray application, with a spray volume of 500 L ha-1.

[0603] Observations were recorded for Echinochloa colona under narrow-leaf weeds and Eclipta alba under broad-leaf weeds, as these were the dominant and uniformly distributed weed species in the experimental field. Although the test herbicide is effective against a wider spectrum of grassy and broad-leaf weeds, observations and statistical analyses were confined to these two representative species for standardization and clarity of results. Weed population was assessed at 30 days after application (DAA) using a 0.5 x 0.5 m (0.25 m2) quadrat placed at four random locations per plot and replicated thrice. All recorded data were subjected to analysis of variance (ANOVA), and the results are presented in Tables 2A, 2B and 2C.

[0815] From the examples, it can be clearly seen that the stable synergistic herbicidal composition of the present invention is superior for controlling the weeds at 30 days after application (Table 2A, 2B and 2C) in rice crop as compared to the solo and binary compositions. Other registered formulated products available in the market, Compound of Formula I 4% GR, Compound of Formula II 50% WG, Compound of Formula III 21.7% SC evaluated were less effective than stable synergistic herbicidal composition of the present invention. The yield of rice crop also improved in the stable synergistic herbicidal composition comprising Compound of Formula I + Compound of Formula II + Compound of Formula III SC as compared to binary, solo and other registered products in the market (Table 2B).

[0816] The disclosed stable synergistic herbicidal composition of present invention comprising Compound of Formula I + Compound of Formula II + Compound of Formula III SC @ 1125, 1875, 1500 & 3000 g / ha showed no phytotoxicity in the rice crop even after 30 days of crop sowing (Table 2C).

[0817] It is evident from the above tables of examples that the stable synergistic herbicidal composition of the present invention comprising Compound of Formula I + Compound of Formula II + Compound of Formula III SC resulted in good control of overall weed flora in rice with higher respective yields as compared to the reference standard products (binary compositions and solo products). Further, the composition of present invention is resulted synergistic.

[0818] In particular, it has now been found, surprisingly that, for example, the herbicidal activity of the composition of present invention, compared with the herbicidal activity of individual components, is synergistic. In fact, various advantageous properties associated with the compositions according to the invention, include but are not limited to: a broadening of the spectrum of herbicidal activity to other weeds, for example to resistant strains; a reduction in the rate of application of the active ingredients; adequate control of the weeds at a rate of application at which the individual compounds are not very effective, advantageous behaviour during formulating and / or upon application, improved stability, improved crop characteristicsincluding crop yields, more developed root system, increase in plant health including height, improved plant vigor, less plant verse (lodging), and other advantages familiar to a person skilled in the art.

[0819] From the above investigations, it will be observed that numerous modifications and variations can be effectuated without departing from the true spirit and scope of the novel concepts of the present invention. It is to be understood that no limitations with respect to the specific embodiments illustrated is intended or should be inferred. It should be understood that all such modifications and improvements have been deleted herein for the sake of conciseness and readability but are properly within the scope of the following claims.
