[0002] FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[0003] The present invention relates to the field of agrochemical compositions. In particular, the present invention relates to a stable synergistic herbicidal composition comprising A) a compound of Formula I, i.e., 5-tert-butyl-3-(2,4-dichloro-5-isopropoxyphenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2(3H)-one or its agrochemically acceptable salts, isomers, esters and derivatives; B) a compound of Formula II, i.e., methyl 2-[[[[[(4,6-dimethoxy-2-pyrimidinyl)amino]carbonyl] amino] sulfonyl] methyl ]benzoate or its agrochemically acceptable salts, isomers, esters and derivatives; and C) a compound of Formula III, i.e., 5-tert-butyl-3-[2,4-dichloro-5-(prop-2-ynyloxy)phenyl]-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2(3H)-one or its agrochemically acceptable salts, isomers, esters or its derivatives for effective weed management across a variety of agricultural and horticultural applications. The present invention also relates to a process for preparation of such herbicidal composition for synergistic and efficacious control of various weeds.
[0004] BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0005] In order to enhance crop productivity and yield, there are several challenges, among these highest cause for crop loss occurs in the form of weeds. The undesired vegetations mixed with the desired crops have been a persistent problem to overcome.
[0006] Therefore, there is an urgent requirement to eliminate undesired weeds and other vegetations from crops that grow alongside the crop and affect the growth of the crops, resulting in stunted or unsatisfactory growth of crops and other various forms of allelopathic effects exerted on desired plant or crop species due to presence of the weeds in their vicinity. At least for this reason, weed and undesirable plant management is crucial to crop productivity from an economic standpoint and to achieve the crop yield to its best potential. Recent advancement in the field of artificial chemistry have created a wide range of chemicals and chemical formulations that can be used alone or in conjunction with other active components to control weeds and undesired plants. Effective and broad-spectrum weed control over a comparatively longer length of time can be achieved by mixing various active chemicals with distinct modes of action, hence preventing the development of resistance.
[0007] In present times, barnyard grass, which is resistant to the majority of existing herbicidal management techniques, has been a severe problem for rice crops in India. Grassy weeds, broadleaf weeds, and sedges adapt well to flooded and dry conditions in rice paddies. Due to repeated use of same herbicide leads to resistant weed for example ALS inhibitors such as penoxsulam resistant weeds are observed. Therefore, mixtures of several active chemicals are now used to manage weeds and undesired plants in order to lower the risk of an increase in herbicide -resistant weeds.
[0008] Various prior arts in herbicidal compositions are tailored based on the active ingredients are used along with their intended applications. However, existing herbicidal combinations shows adverse effect on plants and crops such as discoloration of plant leaves, resistance weeds complex and are ineffective against control of all stages of weeds.
[0009] Reference can be made to CN120753272 A, which discloses oxadiazon-glyphosate wettable powder is characterized by comprising the following components of 5.3% -10.5% of oxadiazon, 46.0% -51.8% of glyphosate ammonium salt, 5% -10% of auxiliary agent and 100% of filler.
[0010] Further reference can be made to CN101485319 A, which discloses a weeding composition containing oxadiazon and butralin is characterized by comprising the effective components of 5-tert-butyl-3- (2, 4-dichloro-5 -isopropoxyphenyl) -1, 3, 4-oxadiazoline-2-one A and N-sec-butyl-4-tert-butyl-2, 6-dinitroaniline B according to the weight ratio of 1: 0.5 to 50 parts by weight of a mixture.
[0011] Further reference can be made to CN103283757 A, which discloses a weeding composition containing bensulfuron methyl and quinclorac is characterized in that the weeding composition takes the bensulfuron methyl and the quinclorac as main effective components, wherein the weight ratio of the bensulfuron methyl to the quinclorac is 1-5: 0.02-3.
[0012] Thus, there is a need to overcome these challenges mentioned herein above. In view of the same, the present objectives to develop a stable synergistic herbicidal composition having an enhanced efficacy, reduce the likelihood of resistance development, reduce toxicity, increase residual activity, reduced dosages, offers broader crop protection, improved and healthy foliage, improved crop yield, saves labour, mitigate environmental impact and economical and is yet cost effective to the end user.
[0013] The stable synergistic herbicidal composition of the present invention will thereby target multiple biological pathways in weed, thereby increasing mortality rates and reduces the probability of resistance and where actives in the novel composition are mutually compatible and also resulting in stable composition also. Therefore, the aim of the present invention is to provide a stable synergistic herbicidal composition that addresses these needs by providing a novel composition that combines active ingredients and that too inspecific weight percentage ranges. [0016] Moreover, a compound of Formula III, i.e., 5-tert-butyl-3-[2,4-dichloro-5-(prop-2-ynyloxy)phenyl]-l,3,4-oxadiazol-2(3H)-one is a phenyloxadiazolone herbicide used to control for grass and broad-leaved weed. It pertains to cell membrane disruption due to inhibition of protoporphyrinogen oxidase (PPO). It is used for controlling annual grasses including crabgrass, Echinochloa, sedges, broad-leaved weeds including Phyllanthus, solanaceae weeds found in rice, sugarcane, sunflower, transplanted vegetables, potatoes, capsicums, etc.
[0017] In view of the drawbacks associated with the prior arts, there exists a need to provide a stable synergistic herbicidal composition for synergistic and effective control of weeds. The present invention satisfies the existing needs, as well as others, and generally overcomes the deficiencies found in the prior art. The present invention composition is synergistic, efficacious, environmentally friendly, simple to formulate, stable and is safe to use.
[0018] Thus, an herbicidal composition of the present invention aims to overcome the problems of the prior art and provides a stable synergistic herbicidal composition comprising bioactive amounts of A) Compound of Formula I, i.e., 5-tert-butyl-3-(2,4-dichloro-5-isopropoxyphenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2(3H)-one or itsagrochemically acceptable salts, esters and derivatives; B) Compound of Formula II, i.e., methyl 2-[[[[[(4, 6-dimethoxy-2-pyrimidinyl)amino]carbonyl]amino]sulfonyl] methyl]benzoate or its agrochemically acceptable salts, esters and derivatives; and C) Compound of Formula III, i.e., 5-tert-butyl-3-[2,4-dichloro-5-(prop-2-ynyloxy)phenyl]-l,3,4-oxadiazol-2(3H)-one or its agrochemically acceptable salts, esters or its derivatives.

[0114] The term rain fastness refers to the ability of a substance, such as a herbicide, to remain effective after being applied to a surface and then exposed to rainfall or irrigation. In other words, it measures how well the substance adheres to the target surface and resists being washed away by water. A low rain fastness indicates that it may be washed off or diluted by rainfall, reducing its efficacy.
[0115] The term " Increased uptake of active ingredient" refers to the enhanced absorption or penetration of the active component of a substance, such as herbicide, into the target organism or plant. This increased uptake can lead to greater effectiveness of the product in controlling weeds or undesired vegetation. It may occur through various mechanisms, such as improved formulation, additives that enhance penetration, or modifications to the active ingredient itself to facilitate absorption. Overall, increased uptake of the active ingredient results in improved performance of the product in achieving its intended purpose.
[0116] The term “benefit: cost” refers to a ratio used in a cost-benefit analysis to summarize the overall relationship between the relative costs and benefits of a proposed composition. If a treatment has a benefit-cost ratio greater than 1.0, the treatment is expected to deliver a positive and better outcome.

[0192] In one embodiment, additives such as siloxane polyalkyleneoxide copolymer or organosilicone based powder adjuvant that can enhance the water absorption efficiency of hard-to-wet soils by increasing their water infiltration, drainage, water retention and hydrophilicity; tallow amine ethoxylate increases the biocompatibility in environmental applications and help in the interactions of active ingredients; ammonium sulphate help is resistant to leaching and helps the crop to utilize nitrogen efficiently; urea clathrate provides superior wetting and spray retention properties and serves as an excellent nitrogen source for crops and epoxide soybean oil provides increased active ingredient uptake and improved rain fastness to the composition; and epoxide soybean oil provides increased active ingredient uptake and improved rain fastness to the composition. The said additives are stable and hygroscopic resulting in an efficient uptake and functioning.
[0193] In one embodiment, additives such as urea clathrate, siloxane polyalkyleneoxide copolymer or organosilicone based powder adjuvant, tallow amine ethoxylate, ammonium sulphate, and epoxide soybeanoil, Methylated soyabean oil, and silicone ethoxylated oil either alone or in combination thereof, present in the range of 0.001 - 20% by weight of the composition.
[0194] In one embodiment, in agrochemical compositions, additives such as urea clathrate, Siloxane Polyalkyleneoxide copolymer or organosilicone based powder adjuvant, tallow amine ethoxylate, ammonium sulphate, and epoxide soybean oil (ESO) serve distinct yet complementary functions, both individually and synergistically. Urea clathrate stabilizes volatile active ingredients by encapsulating them, thereby improving shelf life and enabling controlled release. Siloxane Poly alkyleneoxide copolymer or organosilicone based powder adjuvant, which are trisiloxane-based superspreaders, reduce surface tension significantly and enhance the spreading, wetting, and penetration of the formulation on plant surfaces, improving bioavailability. Tallow amine ethoxylate, a non-ionic surfactant, aids in emulsification and acts as a strong adjuvant, enhancing the uptake of systemic active ingredients. Ammonium sulphate is commonly used as a water conditioner to prevent antagonism from hard water ions like calcium and magnesium; it also enhances the absorption of pesticides. Epoxide soybean oil (ESO) contributes as a stabilizer and plasticizer, protecting active ingredients from UV and oxidative degradation while improving formulation compatibility.
[0195] In another embodiment, when used in combination in agrochemical composition, these additives enhance the overall efficacy, stability, and environmental safety of the agrochemical composition. For instance, the combined use of Siloxane Polyalkyleneoxide copolymer and ammonium sulphate can significantly boost pesticide performance, while ESO and urea clathrate together offer enhanced protection and sustained release of active ingredients. Thus, their synergistic interaction leads to improved performance and consistency under varying environmental and application conditions.
[0196] In one embodiment, additives such as urea clathrate, Siloxane Polyalkyleneoxide Copolymer or organosilicone-based powder adjuvant, tallow amine ethoxylate, ammonium sulphate, and epoxide soybean oil either alone or in combination thereof, present in the range of 0.01 - 20% by weight of the composition.
[0197] In one preferred embodiment of the present invention, the herbicidal composition comprises a combination of Compound of formula I, Compound of formula II, and Compound of formula III, along with at least one adjuvant selected from methylated soybean oil (MSO) and / or silicone-based ethoxylated oil.
[0198] In this embodiment, the inclusion of methylated soybean oil acts as a penetration enhancer and deposition aid, improving the spreading and wetting of the spray solution on the foliage and soil surface. MSO enhances the solubilization of the lipophilic herbicides compound of formula I and Compound of formulaIll, thereby facilitating improved absorption into target weed tissues. This results in faster uptake, improved translocation, and enhanced herbicidal efficacy, particularly against grassy and broad-leaf weeds under flooded and semi-flooded paddy conditions.
[0199] In another embodiment, the composition comprises silicone ethoxylated oil as a super-spreader and surface-tension-reducing agent. The silicone ethoxylated oil significantly lowers the surface tension of the spray droplets, enabling uniform coverage of waxy leaf surfaces and improved contact with weed foliage and soil. This leads to superior rainfastness, reduced spray drift, and consistent herbicidal performance even at reduced application volumes.
[0200] In a further embodiment, the composition comprises a combination of methylated soybean oil and silicone ethoxylated oil, wherein the MSO provides enhanced penetration and retention of the active ingredients, while the silicone ethoxylated oil ensures rapid spreading and uniform distribution of the herbicides. The synergistic action of these adjuvants improves the biological efficacy of Compound of formula I, Compound of formula II, and Compound of formula III at lower doses, thereby reducing phytotoxicity to the crop, minimizing environmental load, and improving cost-effectiveness.
[0201] In yet another embodiment, the use of the said adjuvants and additives enhances the stability of the formulation and improves performance under variable agro-climatic conditions, including high humidity and water-logged soils, without adversely affecting crop safety. The composition thus provides broadspectrum weed control with improved consistency, reduced re-application frequency, and enhanced overall weed management efficiency.
[0202] In yet another embodiment of the present invention, the present stable synergistic herbicidal composition can be applied to various crops and plants including but not limited to sunflower, transplanted rice, cumin, mustard, transplanted rice pre-emergence (3 DAT), transplanted rice (post-emergence 20 DAT), sugarcane, transplanted vegetables, potatoes, capsicums, cereals especially wheat, turf, sports greens & ornamental grass & shrubs, vines, trees, etc.
[0203] In yet another embodiment of the present invention, the present herbicidal composition provides synergistic and effective control against weeds including grasses such as crabgrass, annual bluegrass, goosegrass, buttonweed, annual sedge, pigweed, chickweed, wild mustard, stinkgrass, barnyardgrass, rice flatsedge, dwarf umbrella grass, nut-grass, creeping water primrose, sedges, broad-leaved weeds including phyllanthus, solanaceae weeds, Alternanthera sessillis, Ammania baccifera, Asphodelus tenuifolius,Chenopodium album, Cyperus difformis, Cyperus iria, Dactyloctenium aegyptium, Echinochloa colonum, Echinochloa crusgalli, Eclipta alba, Fimbristylis miliacca, Ludwigia parviflora, Ludwigia quadrifoliate, Ludwigia sp., Marsilea quadrifoliata, Melilotus indica, Melilotus sp., Monochoria vaginalis, Remex sp., Scirpus royeli, Sphenoclea zeylenica, etc.
[0204] In yet another embodiment, the composition according to the invention can be applied to any and all developmental stages of weeds. The weeds may be controlled by contacting the target weeds or its locus with a bioactive amount of synergistic herbicidal composition of the present invention.
[0205] In yet another embodiment, the present stable synergistic herbicidal composition of the present invention can be applied to a plant / crop / soil by spraying, rubbing, atomizing, irrigating, evaporating, dusting, fogging, broadcasting, pouring, mist blowing, soil mixing, foaming, painting, spreading-on, drenching, dipping or drip irrigation, etc.
[0206] In yet another embodiment, the composition of the present invention can also comprise or may be applied together and / or sequentially with further compounds. These further compounds can be selected from fertilizers or micronutrient donors or microorganisms or other preparations that influence plant growth, such as inoculants (e.g., a strain of nitrogen-fixing bacteria), and plant inducers.

[0444] Evaluation of synergistic effect of herbicidal composition of the present invention
[0445] A synergistic effect of two or more products exists whenever the action of an active ingredient combination is greater than the sum of the actions of the individual components. Synergism was calculated by using Colby’s method (Weeds, vol. 15 No. 1 (Jan 1967), pp. 20-2.
[0446] The synergistic action expected for a given combination of two active components can be calculated as follows:
[0447] XY
[0448] E = (X + Y) - 100
[0449] The synergistic action expected for a given combination of three active components can be calculated as follows:
[0450] (XY+YZ+XZ) (XYZ)
[0451] E = (X + Y + Z) - + -100 10000
[0452] Where:
[0453] E represents expected percentage of herbicidal control for the combination of the two or three actives ingredients at defined doses (for example equal to x, y and z, respectively).
[0454] X is the percentage of herbicidal control observed by the compound (Compound of formula I ) at a defined dose (equal to x).
[0455] Y is the percentage of herbicidal control observed by the compound (Compound of formula II ) at a defined dose (equal to y).
[0456] Z is the percentage of herbicidal control observed by the compound (Compound of formula III ) at a defined dose (equal to z).
[0457] When the percentage of herbicidal control observed for the combination is greater than the expected percentage, there is a synergism effect.
[0458] Observed control (%)
[0459] Ratio = - Expected control (%)
[0460] Ratio of O / E > 1, synergism observed
[0461] The present invention is illustrated by way of examples, the examples are meant for illustrative purposes and should not be construed as limiting.

[0487] Treatments T1 to T28 were applied as foliar sprays, while T29 served as the untreated control. Observations were recorded for Echinochloa sp. under narrow-leaf weeds and Ludwigia parviflora under broad-leaf weeds, as these were the dominant and uniformly distributed weed species in the experimental field. Although the test herbicide is effective against a wider spectrum of grassy and broad-leaf weeds, observations and statistical analyses were confined to these two representative species for standardization and clarity of results. Weed population was assessed at 30 days after application (DAA) using a 0.5 x 0.5 m (0.25 m2) quadrat placed at four random locations per plot and replicated thrice. The percent weed control efficiency (WCE) was calculated based on weed population (No. m-2). On the basis of percent WCE, the expected control was computed and compared with the observed control. The results of the trial are presented in Table 1.Table 1: Synergistic effect of composition of the present invention (Compound of formula I + Compound of formula II + Compound of formula in ) against weeds in rice crop

[0524] It is clearly evident from the data shown in above Table 1 for per cent weed control efficacy in rice crop that the ternary composition of the present invention comprising Compound of formula I + Compound of formula II + Compound of formula III (T1 to T4) are synergistic for weed control with > 1 Colby’s Ratio. The binary compositions of two herbicides T5 to T16 are compatible but no synergistic effect was observed for the control of weeds.
[0525] Experiment for Bio-efficacy evaluation of composition of present invention:
[0526] For the ternary and binary composition based Compound of formula I + Compound of formula II + Compound of formula III evaluation under field conditions, the basic test composition as Compound of formula I 26.67% + Compound of formula II 4% + Compound of formula III 6.6% was manufactured. For ternary composition, Compound of formula I 26.67% + Compound of formula II 4% + Compound of formula III 6.6% EC was used and for binary composition Compound of formula I 26.67% + Compound of formula II 4% EC, Compound of formula I 26.67% + Compound of formula III 6.6% EC, Compound of formula II 4% + Compound of formula III 6.6% EC were used. The solo formulation of Compound of formula I 26.67%, Compound of formula II 4% EC and Compound of formula III 6.6% EC and other formulations Compound of formula I 25% EC, Compound of formula II 60% DF, Compound of formula III 80% WP available in the market were used for comparison. Furthermore, these herbicide treatments were compared with untreated control treatments.
[0527] Example 2- Details of experiment on rice crop:
[0528] Field experiment for synergistic activity of Compound of formula I + Compound of formula II + Compound of formula III for the control of weeds in rice crop was conducted at our own farm located in farmers field. To evaluate the synergistic effect, rice (Variety: HKR 120) crop was sown in 22.5 cm with three replications and in Randomized Block Design (RBD). The treatments were sprayed pre -emergence herbicide as EC formulation @ 1500 ml or g / ha with the help of Knapsack sprayer fitted with flat fan nozzle. Each activecomponent was applied at three concentrations in different ternary and binary composition. Solo components were also taken for comparison.

[0783] From the example, it is clearly seen that the stable synergistic herbicidal composition of the present invention is superior for controlling the weeds at 30 days after application (Table 2,3 and 4) in rice crop as compared to the solo and binary compositions applied at the same dosage. Other registered formulated products available in the market, Compound of formula I 25% EC, Compound of formula II 60% DF and Compound of formula III 80% WP evaluated were also less effective in comparison to the ternary composition of the present invention. The yield of rice crop also improved in the ternary composition of the present invention Compound of formula I 26.67% + Compound of formula II 4% + Compound of formula III 6.6% EC as compared to binary, solo and other registered products in the market (Table 4). The disclosed ternary composition of the present invention comprising Compound of formula I 26.67% +Compound of formula II 4% + Compound of formula III 6.6% EC @ 1125, 1500, 1875 & 3,000 ml or g / ha showed no phytotoxicity in the rice crop even after 30 days of crop sowing (Table 4).
[0784] It is evident from the above tables of examples that the composition of the present invention Compound of formula I 26.67% + Compound of formula II 4% + Compound of formula III 6.6% EC resulted in good control of overall weed flora in rice with higher respective yields as compared to the reference standard products (binary compositions and solo products). Further, the composition of present invention is resulted synergistic.
[0785] Through the herbicidal composition of present invention, the number of applications to control wide range of weeds appearing at the same time is minimised. The composition of present invention is highly safe to the user and to the environment. The composition offers the user a single homogenous application eliminating the need for tank mix. The composition also is cost-effective as it provides much greater simultaneous control and can be used in a variety of crops with a broader spectrum of protection.
[0786] In particular, it has now been found various advantageous properties associated with the compositions according to the invention, include but are not limited to: a broadening of the spectrum of herbicidal activity, for example to resistant strains; a reduction in the rate of application of the active ingredients; adequate control of wide range of weeds or undesired vegetation in various crop at a rate of application at which the individual compounds are not very effective, advantageous behaviour during formulating and / or upon application, improved stability, improved crop characteristics including crop yields, more developed root system, increase in plant health including height, improved plant vigor, and other advantages familiar to a person skilled in the art.
[0787] From the above investigations, it will be observed that numerous modifications and variations can be effectuated without departing from the true spirit and scope of the novel concepts of the present invention. It is to be understood that no limitations with respect to the specific embodiments illustrated is intended or should be inferred. It should be understood that all such modifications and improvements have been deleted herein for the sake of conciseness and readability but are properly within the scope of the following claims.
