[0010] The vehicle structure according to this embodiment is applied to the side of a vehicle body equipped with a seat belt. The type of automobile to which the vehicle structure is applied is not limited and may include an internal combustion engine vehicle (ICEV), a hybrid electric vehicle (HEV), a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), or a battery electric vehicle (BEV). In this embodiment, the case in which the vehicle structure is applied to the right side of the vehicle body of the rear seat will be described as an example.
[0011] Figure 1 is a schematic longitudinal cross-sectional view of the rear of the vehicle along the longitudinal direction of the vehicle illustrating the vehicle structure according to this embodiment. Figure 2 is a cross-sectional view taken along line II-II in Figure 1. Figure 3 is a side view of the side portion 23 of the vehicle body with the quarter trim 35 removed. Figure 4 is a plan view of the bracket 51 to which the retractor 43 is fixed. Figure 5 is a view taken along arrow A in Figure 4. Figure 6 is a perspective view of the bracket 51 from the side where it is fixed to the pillar 33 and the retractor 43.
[0012] As shown in Figure 1, the seat 10 of the vehicle 100 to which the vehicle structure of this example is applied is installed on the upper part of the floor panel 13 and is arranged along the width direction of the vehicle. The seat 10 has a seat portion 15 and a backrest portion 17, and the backrest portion 17 is erected from the rear end of the seat portion 15 in an inclined position upward toward the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle 100 has a back door 19 at the rear, and the space between the backrest portion 17 of the seat 10 and the back door 19 is a luggage space 21.
[0013] As shown in Figures 1 to 3, the vehicle 100 has a side section 23. This side section 23 has an outer panel 25, which is the outer surface of the vehicle 100. A rear side window 27 is provided on the upper side of this side section 23.
[0014] The vehicle body side portion 23 also includes an inner panel 31, a pillar 33, and a quarter trim 35. The inner panel 31 is positioned inward in the vehicle width direction along the outer panel 25. The pillar 33 is provided at the rear of the vehicle body side portion 23. The pillar 33 is positioned inward in the vehicle width direction on the inner panel 31 and extends vertically, forming part of the vehicle body side portion 23. The quarter trim 35 is molded from, for example, resin, and is assembled to the vehicle body side portion 23 from the inside so as to cover the inside of the vehicle body side portion 23. The vehicle body side portion 23 configured in this way houses in-vehicle equipment 37, such as an air conditioning unit and an audio unit (see Figure 3).
[0015] Vehicle 100 is equipped with a seat belt device 40. The seat belt device 40 comprises a seat belt 41, a retractor 43, a shoulder anchor 45, a tongue plate 47, and a buckle 49. The seat belt device 40, including the seat belt 41, the retractor 43, and the shoulder anchor 45, is installed on the side of the vehicle body 23, and in particular, the retractor 43 is located inside the side of the vehicle body 23.
[0016] The seat belt 41 is a long belt, and one end of it, which is fastened, is fixed to the vehicle body, for example, the lower end of the pillar 33 or the floor panel 13, by an anchor (not shown).
[0017] The retractor 43 is equipped with a winding mechanism that can wind up the seat belt 41, and the winding end of the seat belt 41, which is the other end, is wound onto the retractor 43. The retractor 43 is supported by a bracket 51 on the pillar 33 of the side of the vehicle body 23.
[0018] The shoulder anchor 45 is fixed near the upper end of the pillar 33. The shoulder anchor 45 has a slip guide 45a. This slip guide 45a has a slit 45b through which the seat belt 41 is passed.
[0019] The tongue plate 47 is attached to the seat belt 41 between the anchor and the shoulder anchor 45. The tongue plate 47 is formed in a plate shape with a locking hole 47a. The tongue plate 47 also has a slit 47b through which the seat belt 41 is passed.
[0020] The buckle 49 is provided at the connection point between the seat portion 15 and the backrest portion 17 of the seat 10 and is fixed to the floor panel 13 or the like. This buckle 49 is positioned on the side opposite to the vehicle body side portion 23 at the right seating position of the seat 10. The buckle 49 has an insertion hole (not shown) into which the tongue plate 47 can be inserted. The buckle 49 is equipped with a locking mechanism (not shown) that engages and locks the lock hole 47a of the tongue plate 47 inserted into the insertion hole. The buckle 49 also has a lock release button (not shown) that releases the lock of the tongue plate 47, and by pressing the lock release button, the tongue plate 47 is removed from the buckle 49.
[0021] The seat belt 41, whose fastening end is secured to the vehicle body by an anchor, is passed through the slit 45b of the slip guide 45a of the shoulder anchor 45, and then through an insertion hole (not shown) formed in the quarter trim 35 and pulled into the interior of the vehicle body side 23. The winding end of this seat belt 41 is then wound onto a retractor 43 provided inside the vehicle body side 23.
[0022] When a passenger seated in seat 10 of vehicle 100 fastens the seat belt 41, they first grasp and pull the tongue plate 47 attached to the seat belt 41. Then, they pass the tongue plate 47 to the front of their body and lock it into the buckle 49. In this way, the seat belt 41 is extended as it is pulled out from the retractor 43, and is passed around the passenger's waist and fitted in a way that it is routed diagonally to the upper body.
[0023] Next, the fixing structure of the retractor 43 that winds up the seat belt 41 will be described in detail. As mentioned above, the retractor 43 that winds up the seat belt 41 is supported on the pillar 33 by a bracket 51. The bracket 51 is made of a steel plate, is flat, and extends from the pillar 33 toward the front of the vehicle. The bracket 51 is fixed to the pillar 33 and the retractor 43 respectively, thereby connecting the circumferential surface of the pillar 33 and the retractor 43. The retractor 43, supported on the pillar 33 by this bracket 51, is positioned on the inside of the inner panel 31 in the vehicle width direction, at a position away from the inner panel 31.
[0024] Here, for example, when the vehicle 100 is subjected to an impact due to a side collision, the inner panel 31 deforms to absorb the impact. In this example, the retractor 43, which can retract the seat belt 41, is connected to the circumferential surface of the pillar 33 by a bracket 51 and is positioned away from the inner panel 31, so that a space is provided between it and the inner panel 31. Therefore, the impact of the impact applied to the inner panel 31 being transmitted to the retractor 43 is suppressed, and the retractor 43 can be protected.
[0025] The bracket 51 is fixed to the inner surface 33a of the pillar 33, which is the inner circumferential surface in the vehicle width direction, and extends forward from this inner surface 33a of the pillar 33. In this way, because the bracket 51 is fixed to the inner surface 33a of the pillar 33 and extends forward, the retractor 43 can be positioned further away from the inner panel 31, and the retractor 43 can be protected more effectively.
[0026] As shown in Figures 3 and 4, the bracket 51 has first fixing parts 53 and 55 that are fixed to the pillar 33, and a second fixing part 57 to which the retractor 43 is fixed.
[0027] The bracket 51 is fastened and fixed to the pillar 33 by bolts 53a and 55a at the first fixing parts 53 and 55, respectively. The bracket 51 is also fastened and fixed to the retractor 43 by bolt 57a at the second fixing part 57. The retractor 43 has a main body 43a having a winding mechanism for winding up the seat belt 41, and a fixing plate 43b extending from the main body 43a to the side opposite to the seat belt 41's pull-out side. The retractor 43 is positioned above the bracket 51, and the downward-facing fixing plate 43b of the retractor 43 is fixed to the upper part of the bracket 51. In this way, the side of the retractor 43 opposite to the seat belt 41's pull-out side is fixed to the bracket 51. Therefore, the retractor 43 can be fixed and supported to the bracket 51 without affecting the pull-out of the seat belt 41.
[0028] The first fixing parts 53 and 55, which are the fixing points of the bracket 51 to the pillar 33, are positioned above and below the second fixing part 57, which is the fixing point of the bracket 51 to the retractor 43. In this way, by fixing the bracket 51 and the pillar 33 with the upper and lower first fixing parts 53 and 55, the bracket 51, which supports the retractor 43 to which tensile force is applied when the seat belt 41 is pulled out, can be firmly fixed to the pillar 33. Moreover, since the first fixing parts 53 and 55 are positioned above and below the second fixing part 57, which is the fixing point of the bracket 51 to the retractor 43, the force applied to the fixing point between the pillar 33 and the bracket 51 can be distributed by these upper and lower first fixing parts 53 and 55.
[0029] Furthermore, the first fixing portions 53 and 55 of the bracket 51 are positioned offset in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle. By positioning the first fixing portions 53 and 55 of the bracket 51 offset in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle in this way, when the seat belt 41 is pulled out, the rotational moment acting on the bracket 51 with the upper first fixing portion 53 on the side closer to the second fixing portion 57 as the pivot point can be reduced by the lower first fixing portion 53 on the side further from the second fixing portion 57.
[0030] The bracket 51 is made wider by having a first region (area) 51A on the side fixed to the pillar 33 have a vertical width dimension Wa greater than the width dimension Wb of the second region (area) 51B on the side fixed to the retractor 43. The second region 51B on the side fixed to the retractor 43 of the bracket 51 extends substantially horizontally from the pillar 33 toward the front of the vehicle. By making the first region 51A on the side fixed to the pillar 33 of the bracket 51 wider in this way, the bracket 51 that supports the retractor 43, to which tensile force is applied when the seat belt 41 is pulled out, can be firmly fixed to the pillar 33, and the force applied to the fixing point between the pillar 33 and the bracket 51 can be distributed more effectively.
[0031] Furthermore, the bracket 51 has a stepped portion 52 in the middle of the vehicle's longitudinal direction (see Figure 2). The bracket 51 is bent by the stepped portion 52, and with the stepped portion 52 as the boundary, the second region 51B, which is fixed to the retractor 43, is positioned closer to the center of the pillar 33's width than the first region 51A, which is fixed to the pillar 33.
[0032] Furthermore, the bracket 51 has a bead portion 59 on its lower edge (see Figure 4). This bead portion 59 is provided by causing the bracket 51 to protrude to one side, either front or back. This bead portion 59 is formed from the lower edge of the bracket 51 to the side edge of the second region 51B on the fixing side with respect to the retractor 43. By forming the bead portion 59 on the bracket 51 in this way, the rigidity of the bracket 51 itself can be increased, and the fixing strength of the retractor 43 can be further increased.
[0033] As shown in Figures 5 and 6, an auxiliary bracket 61 is fixed to the bracket 51. The auxiliary bracket 61 is made of steel plate and is bent into an L-shape. The auxiliary bracket 61 has a fastening portion 63 at one end and a joining portion 65 at the other end, with the bend as the boundary. The fastening portion 63 of the auxiliary bracket 61 is fastened and fixed by bolts 67 between the first region 51A and the second region 51B of the bracket 51, and the joining portion 65 is welded and joined to the front surface 33b, which is the circumferential surface of the pillar 33 on the vehicle front side. This makes it possible to more firmly fix the bracket 51, which supports the retractor 43 to which tensile force is applied when the seat belt 41 is pulled out, to the pillar 33. In particular, the auxiliary bracket 61 can increase the fixing strength of the bracket 51 in the vehicle width direction.
[0034] As described above, the retractor 43, supported by the bracket 51 on the pillar 33, is positioned between the inner panel 31 and the bracket 51, and within the width range of the pillar 33 in the vehicle width direction (see Figure 2). This arrangement allows the retractor 43 to be separated from the inner panel 31 while suppressing its inward protrusion into the vehicle. This further reduces interference between the retractor 43 and the inner panel 31, which deforms to absorb impact in the event of a side collision with the vehicle 100, thereby protecting the retractor 43, while also minimizing the retractor 43's presence inside the vehicle and ensuring a spacious interior.
[0035] The vehicle body side 23, to which the retractor 43 is supported by the bracket 51 on the pillar 33, has a storage space S below the bracket 51 (see Figure 3). This storage space S can accommodate items T, such as tools used when working on the vehicle 100. The quarter trim 35 is provided with a door (not shown), and by opening this door from the luggage space 21 side, items T can be loaded into and out of the storage space S. The bracket 51 supporting the retractor 43 has a second region 51B on the side fixed to the retractor 43 that is smaller in width than the first region 51A on the side fixed to the pillar 33, and this second region extends approximately horizontally from the pillar 33 towards the front of the vehicle. Therefore, items T can be loaded into and out of the storage space S without the bracket 51 getting in the way.
[0036] Furthermore, on the side of the vehicle body 23, the bracket 51 is positioned on the quarter trim 35 side of the pillar 33 (see Figure 2). This allows the bracket 51 to support the retractor 43 on the pillar 33 while ensuring sufficient space between the inner panel 31 and the quarter trim 35 to accommodate in-vehicle equipment 37 such as audio and air conditioning units.
[0037] As described above, according to the vehicle structure of this embodiment, the retractor 43, which can retract the seat belt 41, is connected to the inner surface 33a, which is the circumferential surface of the pillar 33, by a bracket 51, and is positioned away from the inner panel 31, creating a space between it and the inner panel 31. Therefore, the impact of the shock applied to the inner panel 31 during a side collision is suppressed, and the retractor 43 is protected.
[0038] Here, for example, if an L-shaped bracket is attached to the front side surface 33b, which is the circumferential surface of the pillar 33 on the front side of the vehicle, and extends toward the front of the vehicle, at least the thickness of the bracket will extend toward the front of the vehicle, and the retractor 43 will be positioned toward the front of the vehicle. As a result, the quarter trim 35 will also expand toward the front of the vehicle, and the rear side window 27 will become smaller. Also, in a configuration in which an L-shaped bracket is attached to the pillar 33 and the inner panel 31, the part of the bracket where the bend ends, that is, the flat part, will be attached to the pillar 33, and the bracket will protrude from the pillar 33 in the vehicle width direction. As a result, the quarter trim 35 will also protrude toward the interior of the vehicle, and the interior space will become narrower.
[0039] In contrast, in this embodiment, a flat bracket 51 is positioned on the quarter trim 35 side of the pillar 33 and extends toward the front of the vehicle. This allows the retractor 43 to be supported by the pillar 33 with the bracket 51, while ensuring sufficient space for accommodating the onboard equipment 37 on the side of the vehicle body 23. Furthermore, the expansion of the quarter trim 35 toward the front and interior of the vehicle is suppressed, allowing for a larger rear side window 27 and securing a spacious interior.
[0040] Thus, the present invention is not limited to the embodiments described above. It is also intended and within the scope of protection to be provided for the combination of each configuration of the embodiments, as well as for modifications and applications by those skilled in the art based on the description in the specification and well-known technology.

With this vehicle structure, for example, when the vehicle is subjected to an impact by a side collision, the inner panel deforms to absorb the impact. At this time, since the retractor capable of winding up a seat belt is connected to the circumferential surface of the pillar by a bracket and positioned away from the inner panel, the impact of the impact applied to the inner panel being transmitted to the retractor can be suppressed and the retractor can be protected.
