AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing OLED display substrates face issues with black spot defects due to poor adhesion between the color filter, made of organic material, and the inorganic insulating layer, leading to peeling and moisture penetration, which compromises the integrity of the array substrate.

Method used

Incorporating an organic material layer between the color filter and the insulating layer to enhance adhesion, thereby reducing the risk of peeling and improving light extraction efficiency.

Benefits of technology

The organic material layer improves adhesion, reducing black spot defects and enhancing the reliability of the array substrate by minimizing peeling and delamination during reliability testing.

[0062] Optionally, the color filter CF includes a plurality of color filter blocks CFB.

[0063] Optionally, the light emitting layer EML includes a plurality of light emitting blocks EMB.

[0064] Optionally, the first coating layer OC1 is made of an organic insulating material. Optionally, the second coating layer OC2 is made of an organic insulating material.

[0067] The inventors of the present disclosure discover that the array substrate depicted in FIG. 1 has an improved light extraction efficiency at the normal viewing angle due to the total internal reflection between high-refractive-index color filter and low-refractive-index first coating layer. However, the inventors of the present disclosure discover that the array substrate is prone to black spot defects. FIG. 2 shows black spot defects observed in the array substrate depicted in FIG. 1. The inventors of the present disclosure discover that this is because, in the array substrate depicted in FIG. 1, the color filter CF is in direct contact with the insulating layer IN, wherein the color filter CF is made of an organic material, and the insulating layer IN is made of an inorganic material. The poor adhesion between the color filter CF and the insulating layer IN results in peeling of the color filter CF, and moisture penetration, which compromises the integrity of the array substrate, leading to visible defects such as black spots and eventual display failure.

[0068] Accordingly, the present disclosure provides, inter alia, an array substrate and a display apparatus that substantially obviate one or more of the problems due to limitations and disadvantages of the related art. In one aspect, the present disclosure provides an array substrate. In some embodiments, the array substrate includes a planarization layer; a pixel definition layer on the planarization layer; a light emitting layer on a side of the pixel definition layer away from the planarization layer; an insulation layer on a side of the light emitting layer away from the planarization layer; an organic material layer on a side of the insulation layer away from the planarization layer; and a color filter on a side of the organic material layer away from the planarization layer. Optionally, the organic material layer is in direct contact with the color filter.

[0069] FIG. 3 is a schematic diagram illustrating the structure of an array substrate in some embodiments according to the present disclosure. Referring to FIG. 3, the array substrate in some embodiments includes a planarization layer PLN, an anode layer ADL on the planarization layer PLN, a pixel definition layer PDL on a side of the anode layer ADL away from the planarization layer PLN, a light emitting layer EML on a side of the anode layer ADL away from the planarization layer PLN, an encapsulating layer EN on a side of the light emitting layer EML away from the planarization layer PLN, an insulating layer IN on a side of the encapsulating layer EN away from the planarization layer PLN, a touch electrode layer TEL on a side of the insulating layer IN away from the planarization layer PLN, a first coating layer OC1 on a side of the touch electrode layer TEL away from the planarization layer PLN, an organic material layer OML on a side of the insulating layer IN away from the planarization layer PLN, a color filter CF on a side of the organic material layer OML away from the planarization layer PLN, a black matrix BM on a side of the first coating layer OC1 away from the planarization layer PLN, and a second coating layer OC2 on a side of the color filter CF away from the planarization layer PLN.

[0070] Optionally, the encapsulating layer EN includes an inorganic encapsulating sublayer CTD on a side of the light emitting layer EML away from the planarization layer PLN, and an organic encapsulating sublayer TFE on a side of the inorganic encapsulating sublayer CTD away from the planarization layer PLN.

[0071] Optionally, the color filter CF includes a plurality of color filter blocks CFB.

[0074] In some embodiments, the array substrate includes a plurality of light transmissive regions LTR spaced apart from each other by a light non-transmissive region LNTR. In some embodiments, a respective light emitting block of the plurality of light emitting blocks is at least partially in a respective light transmissive region of the plurality of light transmissive regions LTR. In some embodiments, a respective color filter block of the plurality of color filter blocks CFB is at least partially in a respective light transmissive region of the plurality of light transmissive regions LTR.

[0075] In some embodiments, the black matrix BM is at least partially in the light non-transmissive region LNTR. In some embodiments, the pixel definition layer PDL is at least partially in the light non-transmissive region LNTR. In some embodiments, the first coating layer OC1 is at least partially in the light non-transmissive region LNTR.

[0076] In some embodiments, the organic material layer OML is in direct contact with the color filter CF, and is in direct contact with the insulating layer IN. In some embodiments, the organic material layer OML is at least partially in a respective light transmissive region of the plurality of light transmissive regions LTR.

[0077] In some embodiments, an orthographic projection of the organic material layer OML on a base substrate at least partially overlaps with an orthographic projection of the color filter CF on the base substrate.

[0078] The inventors of the present disclosure discover that the organic material layer OML functions as an intermediate layer to improve adhesion between the color filter CF and the insulating layer IN. Enhanced adhesion reduces risks of peeling or delamination during reliability testing. The placement of the organic material layer OML in close association with the color filter CF and its presence in the plurality of light transmissive regions LTR may aid in reducing unwanted reflections or improving the efficiency of light passing through the color filter CF.

[0079] In some embodiments, a difference between a refractive index of the organic material layer OML and a refractive index of the color filter CF is within 10% (e.g., 9%, 8%, 7%, 6%, 5%, 4%, 3%, 2%, 1%) of the refractive index of the color filter CF. In one example, the refractive index of the organic material layer OML is in a range of 1.65 to 1.70. In another example, the refractive index of the color filter CF is in a range of 1.65 to 1.75. In some embodiments, a refractive index of the first coating layer OC1 is less than the refractive index of the organic material layer OML, and less than the refractive index of the color filter CF. In one example, a refractive index of the first coating layer OC1 is in a range of 1.45 to 1.50. In another example, a refractive index of the second coating layer OC2 is in a range of 1.45 to 1.50.

[0080] In one particular example, the organic material layer OML includes an organic resin material.

[0081] In some embodiments, the organic material layer OML includes a plurality of organic material blocks OMB. In some embodiments, a respective organic material block of the plurality of organic material blocks OMB is at least partially in a respective light transmissive region of the plurality of light transmissive regions LTR, and is at least partially outside the light non-transmissive region LNTR.

[0082] In some embodiments, in the light non-transmissive region LNTR, the array substrate includes a stacked structure comprising the first coating layer OC1, the black matrix BM on the first coating layer OC1, a portion of the color filter CF on a side of the black matrix BM away from the first coating layer OC1, and the second coating layer OC2 on a side of the portion of the color filter CF away from the black matrix BM, sequentially arranged.
