Description

COMMUNICATION METHOD AND APPARATUSTECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] The present disclosure relates generally to the field of communication technologies, and in particular, to a communication method and related apparatus.BACKGROUND

[0002] Backscatter communication system is a new type of communication system, including a transmitter device, a backscatter device and a receiver device. The transmitter device is usually a specialized reader or a radio frequency identification (RFID) device that may transmit a carrier signal. The backscatter device may perform wake-up and synchronization with receiving the carrier signal, and start backscattering part or all of incident energy through some processing (e.g. by changing phase, amplitude or frequency of the received carrier signal) . The receiver device may receive the backscattered carrier signal, and decode the backscattered carrier signal to get information of the backscatter device.

[0003] Current backscatter communication systems may achieve a higher synchronization accuracy by using signals with higher bandwidth, which may lead to higher power consumption of backscatter devices.SUMMARY

[0004] Embodiments of the present disclosure provide communication methods and apparatuses, which may reduce power consumption of backscatter devices.

[0005] According to a first aspect, a communication method is described, which may be performed by a transmitter device or by a component in the transmitter device, such as a processor, a chip, or a chip system in the transmitter device.

[0006] The method includes: determining a first bandwidth for a first signal and a second bandwidth for a second signal, where the first signal is used to wake up the backscatter device, the second signal is used at the backscatter device to perform signal synchronization, and the first bandwidth is lower than the second bandwidth; transmitting the first signal with the first bandwidth; and transmitting the second signal with the second bandwidth.

[0007] For example, a first signal, e.g. a wake-up signal with lower bandwidth, is transmitted during a wake-up phase of the backscatter device, and a second signal, e.g. a synchronization signal with higher bandwidth, is transmitted during a synchronization phase of the backscatter device. In this way, two signals with different bandwidths are used for wake-up and synchronization. During the wake-up phase, there are no accuracy requirements, and the wave-up signal with lower bandwidth does not need to be gained, which means that an active amplifier does not need to be used, thereby reducing the power consumption of the backscatter device. During the synchronization phase, the synchronization signal with higher bandwidth is used to improve synchronization accuracy, but since the synchronization signal with higher bandwidth may result in lower sensitivity, a gain, i.e., an active amplifier, may be required to improve the sensitivity, which may achieve a better trade-off between the synchronization accuracy and the sensitivity.

[0008] In a possible implementation, the first signal is a single carrier signal or a multi-carrier signal.

[0009] In this way, the transmitter device may be more flexible in configuring types of the wake-up signal of a backscatter communication system.

[0010] In a possible implementation, the first signal is a single carrier signal, and the first bandwidth is obtained by reducing a bandwidth of an initial single carrier signal using a digital filter.

[0011] In a possible implementation, the first signal is a multi-carrier signal, and the first bandwidth is a total bandwidth of N subcarriers, where N is an integer greater than 1.

[0012] In this way, the bandwidth of the first signal may meet wake-up sensitivity requirement without using any gain.

[0013] In a possible implementation, the second signal is a single carrier signal or a multi-carrier signal.

[0014] In this way, the transmitter device may be more flexible in configuring types of the synchronization signal of a backscatter communication system.

[0015] In a possible implementation, the second signal is a single carrier signal, and the second bandwidth is obtained by reducing a bandwidth of an initial single carrier signal using a digital filter.

[0016] In a possible implementation, the second signal is a multi-carrier signal, and the second bandwidth is a total bandwidth of M subcarriers, where M is an integer greater than 1.

[0017] In a possible implementation, the first bandwidth is determined based on a correspondence between sensitivity and bandwidth, and the wake-up sensitivity requirement in a case where an active amplifier is not used in an envelope detector of the backscatter device.

[0018] In this way, during the wake-up phase, the bandwidth of the first signal may meet the wake-up sensitivity requirement without using any gain.

[0019] In a possible implementation, the second bandwidth is determined based on a correspondence between sensitivity and bandwidth, synchronization sensitivity requirement, and synchronization accuracy requirement in a case where an active amplifier is used in an envelope detector of the backscatter device.

[0020] In this way, during the synchronization phase, the bandwidth of the second signal may meet the synchronization sensitivity requirement and the synchronization accuracy requirement while using a gain in the backscatter device.

[0021] According to a second aspect, a communication method is described, which may be performed at a backscatter device or at a component in the backscatter device, such as a processor, a chip, or a chip system in the backscatter device.

[0022] The method includes: receiving a first signal with a first bandwidth and a second signal with a second bandwidth, where the first bandwidth is lower than the second bandwidth; performing a wake-up operation based on the first signal; and performing signal synchronization based on the second signal.

[0023] In a possible implementation, the first signal is a single carrier signal or a multi-carrier signal.

[0024] In a possible implementation, the first signal is a single carrier signal, and the first bandwidth is obtained by reducing a bandwidth of an initial single carrier signal using a digital filter.

[0025] In a possible implementation, the first signal is a multi-carrier signal, and the first bandwidth is a total bandwidth of N subcarriers, where N is an integer greater than 1.

[0026] In a possible implementation, the second signal is a single carrier signal or a multi-carrier signal.

[0027] In a possible implementation, the second signal is a single carrier signal, and the second bandwidth is obtained by reducing a bandwidth of the initial single carrier signal using a digital filter.

[0028] In a possible implementation, the second signal is a multi-carrier signal, and the second bandwidth is a total bandwidth of M subcarriers, where M is an integer greater than 1.

[0029] In a possible implementation, the first bandwidth is determined based on a correspondence between sensitivity and bandwidth, and wake-up sensitivity requirement in a case where an active amplifier is not used in an envelope detector of the backscatter device.

[0030] In a possible implementation, the second bandwidth is determined based on a correspondence between sensitivity and bandwidth, synchronization sensitivity requirement, and synchronization accuracy requirement in a case where an active amplifier is used in an envelope detector of the backscatter device.

[0031] According to a third aspect, a communication apparatus is described. The communication apparatus has a function of implementing the first aspect or the second aspect. For example, the communication apparatus includes a corresponding module, unit, or means for performing operations in the first aspect or the second aspect. The module, unit, or means may be implemented by using software, may be implemented by using hardware, or may be implemented by using software in combination with hardware.

[0032] According to a fourth aspect, another communication apparatus is described. The communication apparatus includes a memory and one or more processors. The memory is configured to store a part or all of a necessary computer program or instructions for implementing a function in the first aspect or the second aspect. The one or more processors may execute the computer program or the instructions, and when the computer program or the instructions is / are executed, the communication apparatus is enabled to implement the method in any possible design or implementation of the first aspect or the second aspect.

[0033] In a possible implementation, the communication apparatus may further include an interface circuit, and the one or more processors are configured to communicate with another apparatus or component through the interface circuit.

[0034] The communication apparatus may be a terminal, a module in a terminal, or a chip responsible for a communication function in a terminal, for example, a modem chip (also referred to as a baseband chip) or a system on chip (SoC) chip or a system in package (SIP) chip that includes a modem module.

[0035] According to a fifth aspect, a computer-readable storage medium is described. The computer-readable storage medium stores computer-readable instructions, and when a computer reads and executes the computer-readable instructions, the computer is enabled to perform the method in any one of the possible designs of the first aspect or the second aspect.

[0036] According to a sixth aspect, a computer program product is described. When a computer reads and executes the computer program product, the computer is enabled to perform the method in any one of the possible designs of the first aspect or the second aspect.

[0037] As for the beneficial effects of any of implementations from the second to sixth aspects, reference may be made to the beneficial effects of different implementations in the first aspect, which will not be repeated here.BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0047] The process and use of embodiments will be introduced in detail below. It will be understood that many applicable invention concepts provided herein may be implemented in a variety of scenarios. The embodiments described only introduce the specific manners in which the present disclosure and the technology are implemented and used, and do not limit the scope of the present disclosure.

[0048] Embodiments of the present disclosure may adopt a series of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) protocols, such as IEEE 802.11be / Wi-Fi 7 / extremely-high throughput (EHT) protocol, IEEE 802.11bn / ultra-high reliability (UHR)  / Wi-Fi 8 protocol, IEEE Integrated Millimeter Wave (IMMW) protocol, IEEE 802.15 / UWB protocol, or IEEE 802.11bf / sensing protocol. The present disclosure may also adopt spark link / nearlink standard protocol, and the protocols are not limited thereto.

[0049] Backscatter communication is a communication technology that may allow devices to transmit information by reflecting existing signals without generating signals themselves. This technology is, for example, suitable for low-power devices and sensors in Internet of Things (IoT) field.

[0050] FIG. 1 illustrates a backscatter communication system according to one or more embodiments of the present disclosure. The backscatter communication system 100 includes a transmitter device 101, a backscatter device 102, and a receiver device 103.

[0051] The transmitter device 101, also referred to as a carrier source, may transmit a carrier signal (also referred to as Wi-Fi frames) .

[0052] The backscatter device 102 may be a device that transmits information by reflecting existing signals without generating signals itself. The backscatter device 102 may be a simple circuit, e.g. a backscatter tag. The backscatter device 102 may perform a wake-up operation and signal synchronization with receiving the carrier signal, and start backscattering part or all of the incident energy through some processing (e.g. by changing the phase, amplitude, or frequency of the received carrier signal) . This operation of the backscatter device 102 may be referred to as codeword translation, which converts an original codeword (e.g. code0) into another codeword (code1) . It is understood that the backscatter device 102 may also not perform codeword translation, that is, backscatter the original codeword (e.g. code0) , which will not be limited in the present disclosure.

[0053] The wake-up phase and the synchronization phase of the backscatter device 102 are important phases to enable the backscatter device 102 to respond correctly to signals from the transmitter device 101 and communicate effectively.

[0054] Wake-Up Phase

[0055] During the wake-up phase, the backscatter device 102 is in a low-power state or completely power-off state to save energy. In a case where the transmitter device 101 intends to communicate with the backscatter device 102, the transmitter device 101 transmits a wake-up signal. The wake-up signal may be a specially designed signal that notifies the backscatter device 102 to enter an active state. The wake-up signal typically possesses a relatively high energy level so that it may be detected by a receiving circuit of the backscatter device 102. In a case where the backscatter device 102 receives the correct wake-up signal, it wakes up from the low-power state, activating its internal circuit to receive further instructions or data.

[0056] The low-power state and the active state are set for energy saving. In order to extend battery life (if there is a battery) or to utilize ambient energy, the backscatter device 102 is in the low-power state most of the time and enters an active state only after receiving the correct wake-up signal.

[0057] Synchronization Phase

[0058] In a case where the backscatter device 102 is awakened, the backscatter device 102 needs to establish synchronization with the transmitter device 101, so that the backscatter device 102 may accurately decode the information from the transmitter device 101 and reflected modulated data from the backscatter device may be correctly interpreted by the receiver device 103. The synchronization phase may include the following aspects.

[0059] Clock synchronization: the time across the backscatter device 102 and the transmitter device 101 needs to be coordinated so that the two parties may communicate properly. The clock synchronization is typically achieved by sharing the clock signal or according to a pre-set communication protocol.

[0060] Frame synchronization: which may ensure that the backscatter device 102 may know when to receive a new data frame. This may be achieved by marking the beginning of each data frame with a special start symbol or sequence.

[0061] Frequency synchronization: for some systems, it is also necessary to make the carrier frequency consistent between the backscatter device 102 and the transmitter device 101.

[0062] After the synchronization, the backscatter device 102 may communicate with the transmitter device 101 according to the pre-set communication protocol.

[0063] The receiver device 103, also referred to as a reader, may receive a signal reflected by the backscatter device 102 and decode the signal to obtain information from the backscatter device 102.

[0064] In the backscatter communication system, since the backscatter device 102 does not need to transmit signals actively, the backscatter device 102 may consume less energy. In this way, backscatter device 102 may be used for longer periods of time on battery power and may even operate without batteries by using RF energy in the environment. In addition, since the design of the backscatter device 102 is relatively simple, the cost may be low.

[0065] It is understood that the backscatter communication system in FIG. 1 is only an example, and the backscatter communication system may include other devices. In addition, although FIG. 1 illustrates that the backscatter communication system includes one transmitter device, one backscatter device and one receiver device, in other possible implementations, any number of these devices may be included in the backscatter communication system.

[0066] In other possible implementations, the transmitter device 101 and the receiver device 103 may be the same device, which is not limited in the present disclosure.

[0067] In the backscatter communication system, the backscatter device needs to maintain high synchronization accuracy with a Wi-Fi frame (e.g. 200 ns) , otherwise, the receiver device may not be able to decode the signal from the backscatter device. For example, to achieve 200 ns synchronization accuracy, the backscatter communication system needs a signal bandwidth of at least 5 MHz (1 / 200 ns) during the synchronization phase. However, in the backscatter device, an envelope detector, the sensitivity of which decreases as the signal bandwidth increases, may be used for wake-up and synchronization circuits since the low power characteristics. Since the higher bandwidth is required to improve the synchronization accuracy, there is a trade-off between the synchronization accuracy and the sensitivity of the envelope detector. In the present disclosure, the value of the sensitivity may be negative. It is understood that the larger the value of the sensitivity, the lower the sensitivity, and the smaller the value of the sensitivity, the higher the sensitivity.

[0068] In addition, during the synchronization phase, an active amplifier may need to be used in the envelope detector to improve the sensitivity. However, a same signal with a higher bandwidth may be used by the transmitter device during the wake-up phase of the backscatter device and the synchronization phase, which means that the wake-up phase and the synchronization phase are not separated. In this way, the active amplifier may operate during the wake-up phase, which may result in higher power consumption.

[0069] In light of this, some embodiments of the present disclosure provide a communication method. In the communication method, the transmitter transmits a wake-up signal with a lower bandwidth during a wake-up phase of the backscatter device and transmits a synchronization signal with a higher bandwidth during a synchronization phase of the backscatter device, so that an active amplifier may consume less energy during the wake-up phase while improving synchronization accuracy during the synchronization phase, thereby reducing the power consumption of the backscatter device.

[0070] The communication method according to some embodiments of the present disclosure will be described in detail below with reference to FIGS. 2 to 8.

[0071] It is noted that the name of information between the devices or the names of the parameters in the information in the following embodiments are merely examples, and other names may be possible in the practical implementations, which will not be limited in the present disclosure.

[0072] It is understood that in the embodiments of the present disclosure, some or all of the steps in the method embodiments of the present disclosure are only examples, and the embodiments of the present disclosure may also perform other operations or deformations of various operations. In addition, the steps may be performed in a different order as presented in the embodiments of the present disclosure, and it is may not be necessary to perform all the operations in the embodiments of the present disclosure.

[0073] The communication method may be applied to the communication between the transmitter device 101 and the backscatter device 102 shown in FIG. 1. The communication method may also be applied to other scenarios, for example, a communication system with more devices, which will not be limited in the present disclosure. It is noted that the exemplary scenarios do not constitute any limitation of the communication method.

[0074] FIG. 2 is a flow chart of a communication method according to one or more embodiments of the present disclosure. As shown in FIG. 2, the method 200 includes the following steps.

[0075] In step 201, a transmitter device determines a first bandwidth for a first signal and a second bandwidth for a second signal. The first signal is used to wake up the backscatter device, the second signal is used at the backscatter device to perform signal synchronization, and the first bandwidth is lower than the second bandwidth.

[0076] In the present disclosure, the first signal may also be called the wake-up signal, the second signal may also be called the synchronization signal.

[0077] In step 202, the transmitter device transmits the first signal with the first bandwidth, and transmits the second signal with the second bandwidth. Accordingly, the backscatter device receives the first signal and the second signal.

[0078] It is understood that, the first signal and the second signal may be transmitted together or separately, which will not be limited in the present disclosure. FIG. 3 illustrates a Wi-Fi frame according to one or more embodiments of the present disclosure, including the wake-up signal, the synchronization signal, and a control payload signal. The bandwidth of the wake-up signal is the first bandwidth, and the bandwidth of the synchronization signal is the second bandwidth. The control payload signal is a special signal used in the backscatter communication system, which may integrate control information (e.g. routing information) and payload data (e.g. user data) .

[0079] In step 203, the backscatter device performs a wake-up operation based on the first signal, and performs a signal synchronization based on the second signal.

[0080] In the communication method, the wake-up signal with the lower bandwidth is transmitted during the wake-up phase of the backscatter device, and the synchronization signal with the higher bandwidth is transmitted during the synchronization phase of the backscatter device. In this way, two signals with different bandwidths are used for wake-up and synchronization. During the wake-up phase, there are no accuracy requirements, and the wake-up signal with lower bandwidth does not need to be gained, which means that an active amplifier may not need to be used, thereby reducing the power consumption of the backscatter device. During the synchronization phase, the synchronization signal with higher bandwidth is used to improve the synchronization accuracy, but since the synchronization signal with higher bandwidth may result in lower sensitivity, a gain, i.e., an active amplifier, may be required to improve the sensitivity, which may achieve a better trade-off between the synchronization accuracy and the sensitivity.

[0081] In a possible implementation, the first bandwidth is determined by a correspondence between sensitivity and bandwidth and a wake-up sensitivity requirement in a case where an active amplifier is not used in an envelope detector of the backscatter device. The correspondence may be a curve, a table, one or more formulas, or other forms, which will not be limited in the present disclosure.

[0082] The wake-up sensitivity requirement may indicate wake-up sensitivity threshold required for the envelope detector to perform the wake-up operation. For example, the wake-up sensitivity requirement indicates that the wake-up sensitivity threshold of the envelope detector in the backscatter device is -25 dBm.

[0083] For example, the first bandwidth may be any bandwidth from 0.5 to 4 MHz. The range of 0.5 to 4 MHz may be obtained by the correspondence and the sensitivity requirement in a case where the active amplifier is not used in the envelope detector of the backscatter device.

[0084] In a possible implementation, the second bandwidth is determined by the correspondence between the sensitivity and the bandwidth and the synchronization sensitivity requirement and the synchronization accuracy requirement in a case where the active amplifier is used in the envelope detector of the backscatter device. The correspondence may be a curve, a table, one or more formulas, or other forms, which will not be limited in the present disclosure.

[0085] The synchronization sensitivity requirement may indicate synchronization sensitivity threshold required for the envelope detector to perform synchronization. For example, the synchronization sensitivity threshold of the envelope detector in the backscatter device is -25 dBm. The synchronization accuracy requirement may indicate the minimum synchronization accuracy required by the envelope detector for communication. For example, the minimum synchronization accuracy of the envelope detector in the backscatter device is 200 ns.

[0086] For example, the second bandwidth may be any bandwidth from 2 to 8 MHz. The range of 0.5 to 4 MHz may be obtained by the correspondence and the sensitivity requirement in a case where the active amplifier is used in the envelope detector of the backscatter device.

[0087] The wake-up sensitivity requirement and the synchronization sensitivity requirement may be the same or different which will not be limited in the present disclosure.

[0088] FIG. 4 illustrates a correspondence between a bandwidth and sensitivity of an envelope detector according to one or more embodiments of the present disclosure. The horizontal axis represents a bandwidth of a signal, the vertical axis represents sensitivity of an envelope detector, and the horizontal dashed line represents required sensitivity. Curve 401 represents a correspondence between the bandwidth of the signal and sensitivity of an envelope detector in a case where no active amplifier is used. Curve 402 represents a correspondence between the bandwidth of the signal and sensitivity of an envelope detector in a case where an active amplifier is used.

[0089] As shown in FIG. 4, assuming that the wake-up sensitivity threshold and the synchronization sensitivity threshold of the envelope detector in the backscatter device are both -25 dBm, which means that the sensitivity (i.e. the wake-up sensitivity during the wake-up phase and the synchronization sensitivity during the synchronization phase) of the envelope detector is less than or equal to -25 dBm. A bandwidth corresponding to an intersection of curve 401 and the horizontal dashed line of -25dBm is the highest bandwidth required for a normal operation of the backscatter device in a case where no active amplifier is used.

[0090] Therefore, the sensitivity threshold of the envelope detector in the backscatter device is -25 dBm, and the maximum bandwidth of the signal is 2 MHz in a case where the envelope detector uses 0 dB gain (without the active amplifier) . The signal with a bandwidth of lower than or equal to 2 MHz may be understood as the first signal and may be used during the wake-up phase in which no active amplifier may be used.

[0091] In a case where the envelope detector uses 2.5 dB gain, the active amplifier is used in the envelope detector. As shown in FIG. 4, a higher bandwidth of the signals (e.g. 5 MHz, 6 MHz) may meet the synchronization sensitivity requirement. The signal with the higher bandwidth may be understood as the second signal and may be used during the synchronization phase.

[0092] Therefore, during the wake-up phase, the signal with the bandwidth lower than or equal to 2 MHz may meet the wake-up sensitivity requirement without using the active amplifier. During the synchronization phase, to achieve the minimum synchronization accuracy (e.g. 200 ns) , the envelope detector needs the signal with the bandwidth higher than or equal to 5 MHz (1 / 200 ns) . In this way, the signal with the higher bandwidth may meet the synchronization accuracy requirement, and the active amplifier may be used to improve the sensitivity.

[0093] In some embodiments, the first signal is a single carrier signal or a multi-carrier signal.

[0094] In some embodiments, the second signal is a single carrier signal or a multi-carrier signal.

[0095] It is understood that, the types of the first signal and the second signal may be combined in a number of possible implementations. In some examples, both the first signal and the second signal are single carrier signals. In some other examples, the first signal is a single carrier signal, and the second signal is a multi-carrier signal. In some other examples, the first signal is a multi-carrier signal, and the second signal is a single carrier signal. In some other examples, both the first signal and the second signal are multi-carrier signals. In this way, more choices may be made for the types of the signals in the backscatter communication system, and the transmitter device may be more flexible in configuring types of the signals in the backscatter communication system.

[0096] In the following, the bandwidth of the first signal and the bandwidth of the second signal are described in detail.

[0097] In a possible implementation, the first signal is a single carrier signal, and the first bandwidth is obtained by reducing a bandwidth of the first signal using a digital filter at the transmitter device, so as to meet the wake-up sensitivity requirement without using any gain.

[0098] It is understood that, different filtering methods or parameters may be used for the envelope detector. In addition to the digital filter, other methods may be used to reduce the bandwidth of the first signal, which is not limited in the present disclosure.

[0099] In another possible implementation, the first signal is a multi-carrier signal, and the first bandwidth is a total bandwidth of N subcarriers, where N is an integer greater than 1.

[0100] For example, the transmitter device may select N subcarriers from all available subcarriers, and the total bandwidth of the N subcarriers may meet the synchronization sensitivity requirement.

[0101] In a possible implementation, the second signal is a single carrier signal, and the second bandwidth is obtained by reducing the bandwidth of the second signal using the digital filter at the transmitter device, so as to meet the wake-up sensitivity requirement and the accuracy requirement under the condition of using gain.

[0102] As mentioned above, different filtering methods or parameters may be used for the envelope detector. In addition to the digital filter, other methods may be used to reduce the bandwidth of the second signal, which is not limited in the present disclosure.

[0103] In another possible implementation, the second signal is a multi-carrier signal, and the second bandwidth is a total bandwidth of M subcarriers, where M is an integer greater than 1.

[0104] For example, the transmitter device may select M subcarriers from all available subcarriers, and the total bandwidth of the M subcarriers may meet the wake-up sensitivity requirement and the accuracy requirement.

[0105] FIGS. 5 and 6 may be obtained by using the method provided in the embodiments of the present disclosure.

[0106] FIG. 5 illustrates a relationship between signal bandwidth and time according to one or more embodiments of the present disclosure. In FIG. 5, the horizontal axis represents time, the vertical axis represents signal bandwidth. The transmitter device transmits a wake-up signal 501 and then transmits a synchronization signal 502. A bandwidth of the wake-up signal 501 is lower than that of the synchronization signal 502. After that, the transmitter device may transmit a control payload signal, and a bandwidth of the control payload signal shown in FIG. 5 is higher than the bandwidth of the wake-up signal 501 and lower than the bandwidth of the synchronization signal 502. It is understood that, the bandwidth of the control payload signal is not limited in the present disclosure.

[0107] FIG. 6 illustrates a relationship between power consumption of the backscatter device and time according to one or more embodiments of the present disclosure. In FIG. 6, the horizontal axis represents time, and the vertical axis represents the power consumption of the backscatter device. Since the active amplifier is not used in the envelope detector during the wake-up phase, and the active amplifier is used in the envelope detector during the synchronization phase, the power consumption of the wake-up phase 601 is lower than that of the synchronization phase 602. In the control payload phase, the power consumption depends on a size of a payload, and the size of the payload depends on decoding ability of the receiver device. The power consumption of the control payload phase is higher than that of the wake-up phase 601 and lower than that of the synchronization phase 602, which is not limited in the present disclosure.

[0108] The communication method in the embodiments of the present disclosure is described above with reference to FIGS. 1 to 6. Apparatuses for communication in the embodiments of the present disclosure will be described in detail below with reference to FIGS. 7 and 8.

[0109] FIG. 7 is a structural schematic diagram of an apparatus for communication according to one or more embodiments of the present disclosure. FIG. 8 is a structural schematic diagram of another apparatus for communication according to one or more embodiments of the present disclosure. The apparatuses are each used to realize the functions of the transmitter device or the backscatter device in the above method embodiments, so FIGS. 7 and 8 may achieve the beneficial effects of the above method embodiments.

[0110] As shown in FIG. 7, the apparatus 700 includes a processing unit 710 and a transceiver unit 720.

[0111] In a possible implementation, the apparatus 700 is used to perform the steps / processes of the transmitter device in the method 200.

[0112] The processing unit 710 is configured to determine the first bandwidth for the first signal and the second bandwidth for the second signal. The first signal is used to wake up the backscatter device, the second signal is used at the backscatter device to perform signal synchronization, and the first bandwidth is lower than the second bandwidth. The transceiver unit 720 is configured to transmit the first signal with the first bandwidth, and transmit the second signal with the second bandwidth.

[0113] In some embodiments, the first signal is a single carrier signal or a multi-carrier signal.

[0114] In some embodiments, the first signal is a single carrier signal, and the first bandwidth is obtained by reducing a bandwidth of an initial single carrier signal using a digital filter.

[0115] In some embodiments, the first signal is a multi-carrier signal, and the first bandwidth is a total bandwidth of N subcarriers, where N is an integer greater than 1.

[0116] In some embodiments, the second signal is a single carrier signal or a multi-carrier signal.

[0117] In some embodiments, the second signal is a single carrier signal, and the second bandwidth is obtained by reducing a bandwidth of an initial single carrier signal using a digital filter.

[0118] In some embodiments, the second signal is a multi-carrier signal, and the second bandwidth is a total bandwidth of M subcarriers, where M is an integer greater than 1.

[0119] In some embodiments, the first bandwidth is determined based on a correspondence between sensitivity the bandwidth, and wake-up sensitivity requirement in a case where an active amplifier is not used in the envelope detector of the backscatter device.

[0120] In some embodiments, the second bandwidth is determined based on a correspondence between sensitivity and bandwidth, synchronization sensitivity requirement, and synchronization accuracy requirement in a case where an active amplifier is used in an envelope detector of the backscatter device.

[0121] In another possible implementation, the apparatus 700 is used to perform the steps / processes of the backscatter device in the method 200.

[0122] The transceiver unit 720 is configured to receive the first signal with the first bandwidth and the second signal with the second bandwidth. The first bandwidth is lower than the second bandwidth. The processing unit 710 is configured to perform the wake-up operation based on the first signal, and perform the signal synchronization based on the second signal.

[0123] In some embodiments, the first signal is a single carrier signal or a multi-carrier signal.

[0124] In some embodiments, the first signal is a single carrier signal, and the first bandwidth is obtained by reducing a bandwidth of an initial single carrier signal using a digital filter.

[0125] In some embodiments, the first signal is a multi-carrier signal, and the first bandwidth is a total bandwidth of N subcarriers, where N is an integer greater than 1.

[0126] In some embodiments, the second signal is a single carrier signal or a multi-carrier signal.

[0127] In some embodiments, the second signal is a single carrier signal, and the second bandwidth is obtained by reducing a bandwidth of an initial single carrier signal using a digital filter.

[0128] In some embodiments, the second signal is a multi-carrier signal, and the second bandwidth is a total bandwidth of M subcarriers, where M is an integer greater than 1.

[0129] In some embodiments, the first bandwidth is determined based on a correspondence between sensitivity and bandwidth, and wake-up sensitivity requirement in a case where an active amplifier is not used in an envelope detector of the backscatter device.

[0130] In some embodiments, the second bandwidth is determined based on a correspondence between sensitivity and bandwidth, synchronization sensitivity requirement, and synchronization accuracy requirement in a case where an active amplifier is used in an envelope detector of the backscatter device.

[0131] It is understood that the apparatus 700 here is embodied in the form of a functional unit. The term “unit” here may refer to an application specific integrated circuit (ASIC) , electronic circuits, processors used to execute one or more software or firmware programs (e.g. shared processors, proprietary processors, or group processors, etc. ) and memory, merged logic circuits, and / or other suitable components that support the functions described. For example, it may be understood by the person skilled in the art that apparatus 700 may be the transmitter device or the backscatter device in the above embodiments. The apparatus 700 may be used to perform the various processes and / or steps corresponding to the transmitter device or the backscatter device in the above embodiments of the method, which are not described here to avoid clutter in the illustration.

[0132] In some embodiments, for example, the apparatus 700 in FIG. 7 may also be a chip or a system on chip (SoC) . Correspondingly, the transceiver unit 720 may be the transceiver circuit of the chip which is not limited here.
