[0010] Washing clothes is a usual step for retaining colour and textile status of clothes and especially for removing laundry malodour. Although the washing machine is an excellent means to remove microbial cells from the textile surface, it also provides good conditions for a variety of microorganisms. Thus, microbial biofilms can be found on different surfaces 0 with water contact inside the washing machine.

[0011] Microorganisms are an important factor in the wash-and-use cycle of textiles since they can cause unwanted aesthetic effects, such as malodour formation, and even pose health risks. Even after washing of the textiles, the bacteria can persist and lead to the described defects. Common malodour-causing bacteria include Klebsiella oxytoca, Staphylococcus 5 epidermidis, and Corynebacterium xerosis, which thrive on organic residues, body oils, and detergent residues left on fabrics. Several studies have determined further species of microorganisms that are causing malodour in laundry (Zinn et al., “A Comprehensive View of Microbial Communities in the Laundering Cycle Suggests a Preventive Effect of Soil Bacteria on Malodour Formation”, Microorganisms 2022, 10, 1465).Common techniques for combatting microorganisms involve the use of laundry perfumes including odourous substances, which overlay and thereby neutralize the malodour. This is described for example in WO 2018 / 202311 A1. The international application discloses compositions for odour improvement. The overall objective problem is described to provide mixtures that are highly olfactory active.

[0012] The international application WO 2008 / 026140 A2 also describes compositions with fragrance materials that are capable of masking or neutralize malodours. An application in laundry is also described.

[0013] As all of the mixtures described in the state of the art are only masking the malodour in laundry, it is needed to obtain novel, highly efficient mixtures that are active against the malodour causing microorganisms and thus inhibit the malodour causing bacteria.

[0014] It was thus the objective of the present invention to provide novel and effective compositions for combatting microorganisms in textiles and thus combat textile malodour.

[0019] It was surprisingly found in terms of the present invention that by adding a booster b) substance to the fragrance substance a), a synergism could be observed between both substances, which increases the antimicrobial activity of a fragrance substances synergistically. Textile treatment mixtures according to the invention enable reduction and removal of fabric malodour as well as exhibit antimicrobial activity. Thus, the obtained textiles after treatment have a diminished amount or complete absence of malodour causing microorganism as well as a pleasant odour.

Method for decreasing or eliminating the malodour of fabric, comprising or consisting of the steps:i. providing at least one active substance having an odour and anti-microbial activity or a composition comprising such active substance, wherein the at least one active component is selected from the group consisting of at least one fragrance substance of the group consisting of (2E)-2- benzylideneheptanal, (2E,6E)-3,7,11-trimethyldodeca-2,6,10-trien-1-ol, (2E,6Z)-nona-2,6-dienal, (E)-3-phenylprop-2-enal, (E)-4-(2,6,6- trimethylcyclohex-2-en-1-yl)but-3-en-2-one, 1-(2,3,8,8-tetramethyl-1 ,3,4,5,6,7-hexahydronaphthalen-2-yl)ethanone and isomeric mixtures thereof, 2-benzylheptan-1-ol, 2-bicyclo[2.2.1]hept-5-enyl acetate, 3-methyl-5- phenylpentan-1-ol, 4,6,6,7,8,8-hexamethyl-1 ,3,4,7- tetrahydrocyclopenta[g]isochromene, dodecanal, hex-5-enyl 2- methylbutanoate, 2-methyl-5-propan-2-ylphenol, prop-2-enyl heptanoate, ethyl 2-methylpentanoate, 2-phenoxyethyl 2-methylpropanoate, 2- phenylethanol, 2-methyl-5-propylcyclohex-2-en-1-one, 2,3,6- trimethylcyclohexan-1-ol, patchouli oil, orange oil, 4-Ethyloct-3-enenitrile, mixture of Diethyl (E / Z)-2-methylbut-2-enedioate and Diethyl 2- methylenebutanedioate, or mixtures thereof;ii. providing at least one booster substance selected from the group consisting of 1 ,2-pentanediol, 1 ,2-hexanediol, 1 ,2-heptanediol, 1 ,2-octanediol, 1,2- decanediol, 1 ,2-dodecanediol, tropolone and 4-hydroxyacetophenone;Hi. contacting a fabric having a malodour with the provided active substance or composition comprising the active substance and the provided booster substance, preferably washing the fabric with the active substance and the booster substance under the presence of water;iv. optionally incubating the fabric with the active substance or composition comprising this substance and the booster substance;v. obtaining a fabric without or with a decreased malodour.

13. Method according to claim 12, wherein the at least one active substance is comprised in a textile treatment mixture in an amount of 0.0001 to 10 wt.-%, moreover preferably 0.001 to 5 wt.-% and especially preferably 0.01 to 0.5 wt.-% based on the total weight of the textile treatment mixture.

Method according to any one of claims 12 or 13, wherein the at least one active substance has anti-microbial activity against one or more of the malodour causing microorganisms M. luteus, S. hominis, C.jeikeium, M. osloensis, and P. aeruginosaand / orthe fabric is selected from boucle, brocade, canvas, cashmere, chenille, chiffon, cotton, crepe, damask, faux fur, faux leather, flannel, fleece, georgette, gingham, Gore-Tex, jersey, lace, leather, linen, lyocell, wool, modal, muslin, nylon, organza, plisse, polyester, poplin, satin, silk, spandex, suede, taffeta, toile, tweed, twill, velour, velvet, viscose as well as any fabric compositions comprising natural and artificial fibers.
