Abstract
Description
[0001] STABLE SYNERGISTIC HERBICIDAL COMPOSITION
[0002] FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[0003] The present invention relates to a stable synergistic herbicidal composition comprising A) a compound of Formula I, i.e., 5-tert-butyl-3-(2,4-dichloro-5-isopropoxyphenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2(3H)-one or its agrochemically acceptable salts, esters and derivatives; B) a compound of Formula II, i.e., methyl 2-[[[[[(4,6-dimethoxy-2-pyrimidinyl)amino]carbonyl]amino]sulfonyl] methyl]benzoate or its agrochemically acceptable salts, esters and derivatives; and C) a compound of Formula III, i.e., N-[2-[(4,6-dimethoxy-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl)carbonyl]-6-fluorophenyl]-1,1-difluoro-N-methylmethanesulfonamide or its agrochemically acceptable salts, esters or its derivatives for effective control of various weeds. The present invention also relates to a process for preparation of such herbicidal composition for synergistic and efficacious control of various weeds.
[0004] BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0005] To achieve an effective safe and sustainable product by enhancing crop productivity and yield, the undesired vegetations mixed with the desired crops have been a persistent problem to overcome. Among various biotic factors affecting crop performance, weeds account for a substantial proportion of yield losses due to competition for nutrients, water, light, and space, thereby increasing production costs and reducing economic returns to farmers. Effective management of weeds is therefore an essential agronomic practice to ensure healthy crop growth and realization of yield potential.
[0006] Weed flora in cultivated fields often comprises a complex mixture of grassy weeds, broad-leaved weeds, and sedges, which are capable of adapting to diverse agroclimatic and agronomic conditions. In crops weeds such as grass and sedges have emerged as persistent problems under both flooded and dry cultivation practices. Repeated application of herbicides having the same mode of action has resulted in the development of resistant weed populations, thereby reducing the effectiveness of existing herbicidal management strategies. Consequently, there is an increasing need for herbicidal solutions that provide reliable weed control while mitigating the risk of resistance development. One approach to address these challenges involves the use of herbicidal compositions comprising multiple active ingredients with distinct and complementary modes ofaction. Such combinations can enhance the overall weed control spectrum, improve efficacy across different weed growth stages, and reduce the selection pressure responsible for resistance development. Additionally, combining herbicides with differing sites of action enables effective control of mixed weed populations commonly encountered in crop fields.
[0007] Various prior arts in herbicidal compositions are tailored based on the active ingredients are used along with their intended applications.
[0008] References can be made to CN 111226968A, which discloses a composition comprising triafamone and bensulfuron-methyl for preventing and killing weeds in transplanted paddy fields.
[0009] CN108887273 discloses a weeding composition comprising triafamone and pyriftalid in a weight ratio of 1:0.1-20.
[0010] However, existing herbicidal combinations shows adverse effect on plants and crops such as discoloration of plant leaves, resistance weeds complex and are ineffective against control of all stages of weeds and broader spectra of weeds. Thus, there is a need to overcome these challenges mentioned herein above. In view of the same, the present objectives to develop a stable synergistic herbicidal composition having an enhanced efficacy, reduce the likelihood of resistance development, reduce toxicity, increase residual activity, reduced dosages, offers broader crop protection, improved and healthy foliage, improved crop yield, saves labour, mitigate environmental impact and economical and is yet cost effective to the end user.
[0011] The stable synergistic herbicidal composition of the present invention will thereby target multiple biological pathways in weed, thereby increasing mortality rates and reduces the probability of resistance and where actives in the novel composition are mutually compatible and also resulting in stable composition also. Therefore, the aim of the present invention is to provide a stable synergistic herbicidal composition that addresses these needs by providing a novel stable synergistic herbicidal composition that combines active ingredients and that too in specific weight percentage ranges. Composition of present invention has demonstrated superior efficacy in controlling a broad spectrum of weeds while being environmentally sustainable.A compound of formula I, i.e., 5-tert-butyl-3-(2,4-dichloro-5-isopropoxyphenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2(3H)-one is a phenyloxadiazolone herbicide and used to control bindweed and some annual broad-leaved weeds. It acts as an protoporphyrinogen oxidase inhibitor leading to irreversible cell membrane damage. It is used for the control a broad spectrum of weeds such as crab grass; annual bluegrass; goosegrass; buttonweed; annual sedge on a range of farms including turf, sports greens & ornamental grass and shrubs, vines, trees, etc.
[0012] Further, a compound of formula II, i.e., methyl 2-[[[[[(4,6-dimethoxy-2-pyrimidinyl) amino]carbonyl]amino]sulfonyl]methyl]benzoate is an pyrimidinyl sulfonylurea herbicide used to control annual and perennial weeds and sedges. It pertains to an inhibition of plant amino acid synthesis by inhibition of acetohydroxyacid synthase (AHAS). It is an herbicide used for the controlling a variety of annual and perennial weeds and sedges such as pigweed, chickweed, wild mustard, stink grass, barnyard grass, rice flat sedge, dwarf umbrella grass, nut-grass, creeping water primrose found in various crops such as cereals especially wheat, rice, etc.
[0013] Moreover, a compound of formula III, i.e., N-[2-[(4,6-dimethoxy-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl)carbonyl]-6-fluorophenyl]-1,1-difluoro-N-methylmethanesulfonamide is a dinitroaniline herbicide used to control most annual grasses and common weeds in cereals, fruit and vegetables. It pertains to inhibition of mitosis and cell division due to inhibition of microtubule assembly. It is used for annual grasses including barnyard grass, goose grass, crab grass, signal grass and common buffalo grass, annual broad-leaved weeds including pigweed, goosefoot and purslane found in wheat & other small grain cereals, corn, soybeans, maize, fruit, vegetables including beans & peas, carrots, turf & lawns, potatoes, vineyards, peanuts, etc. It is low acute oral toxic to mammals.
[0014] The stable synergistic herbicidal composition comprising Compound of Formula I, Compound of Formula II, and Compound of Formula III shows complementary herbicidal characteristics and distinct modes of action, which together enable effective management of mixed weed populations. Compound of Formula I act primarily through inhibition of protoporphyrinogen oxidase, leading to disruption of cell membrane integrity; Compound of Formula II inhibits acetohydroxy acid synthase, thereby interfering with amino acid biosynthesis in susceptible weeds and sedges; and Compound of Formula III inhibits cell division by disrupting microtubule formation. By integrating these active ingredients in a single composition, the present invention targets multiplebiological processes in weeds, thereby improving control across grassy weeds, broad-leaved weeds, and sedges at various growth stages. This multi-pathway approach enhances overall weed control performance and reduces the likelihood of resistance development associated with the repeated use of herbicides having a single mode of action.
[0015] The present invention satisfies the existing needs, as well as others, and generally overcomes the deficiencies found in the prior art. The present invention composition is synergistic, efficacious, environmentally friendly, simple to formulate, stable and is safe to use.
[0016] Thus, the herbicidal composition of the present invention aims to overcome the problems of the prior art and provides a stable synergistic herbicidal composition comprising bioactive amounts of A) Compound of Formula I, i.e., 5-tert-butyl-3-(2,4-dichloro-5-isopropoxyphenyl)- 1,3,4-oxadiazol-2(3H)-one or its agrochemically acceptable salts, esters and derivatives; B) Compound of Formula II, i.e., methyl 2-[[[[[(4,6-dimethoxy-2-pyrimidinyl)amino]carbonyl]amino]sulfonyl] methyl]benzoate or its agrochemically acceptable salts, esters and derivatives; and C) Compound of Formula III, i.e., N-[2-[(4,6-dimethoxy-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl)carbonyl]-6-fluorophenyl]-1,1-difluoro-N-methylmethanesulfonamide or its agrochemically acceptable salts, esters or its derivatives.

[0183] In one of the embodiments of the present invention, suitable carriers include liquid and solid carriers. Liquid carriers include e.g. non-aqueous solvents such as cyclic and aromatic hydrocarbons, e.g. paraffins, tetrahydronaphthalene, alkylated naphthalenes and their derivatives, alkylated benzenes and their derivatives, alcohols such as methanol, ethanol, propanol, butanol and cyclohexanol, ketones such as cyclohexanone, strongly polar solvents, e.g. amines such as N-methylpyrrolidone, and water as well as mixtures thereof. Solid carriers include e.g. mineral earths such as silicas, silica gels, silicates, talc, kaolin, limestone, lime, chalk, bole, loess, clay, dolomite, diatomaceous earth, calcium sulfate, magnesium sulfate, magnesium oxide, ground synthetic materials, fertilizers such as ammonium sulfate, ammonium phosphate, ammonium nitrate, ureas, and products of vegetable origin such as cereal meal, tree bark meal, wood meal and nutshell meal, cellulose powders, or other solid carriers.
[0184] In one embodiment additives such as Siloxane Poly alkyleneoxide Copolymer or an organosilicone based powder adjuvant that can enhance the water absorption efficiency of hard-to-wet soils by increasing their water infiltration, drainage, water retention and hydrophilicity; tallow amine ethoxylate increases the biocompatibility in environmental applications and help in the interactions of active ingredients; ammonium sulphate help is resistant to leaching and helps the crop to utilize nitrogen efficiently; urea clathrate provides superior wetting and spray retention properties and serves as an excellent nitrogen source for crops and epoxide soybean oil provides increased activeingredient uptake and improved rain fastness to the composition; and epoxide soybean oil provides increased active ingredient uptake and improved rain fastness to the composition. The said additives are stable and hygroscopic resulting in an efficient uptake and functioning.
[0185] In one embodiment of the present invention Siloxane Polyalkyleneoxide Copolymer has superspreading ability, it significantly lowers the surface tension of spray solutions, allowing them to spread uniformly across plant surfaces, including waxy or hard-to-wet leaves. This enhances the penetration and absorption of herbicides, leading to improved efficacy. Siloxane Polyalkyleneoxide Copolymer is especially effective in low-volume spray applications and helps increase rainfastness and reduce runoff. Its use supports more efficient herbicide delivery, often allowing for reduced application rates.
[0186] In one embodiment of the present invention, the inclusion of both an organosilicone-based powder and tallow amine ethoxylate in a formulation significantly enhances its surface activity and delivery efficiency. Siloxane Polyalkyleneoxide Copolymer, a trisiloxane -based super-spreader, significantly reduces surface tension, enabling rapid and uniform spreading of the solution across plant surfaces, even on waxy or water-repellent leaves. In synergy, tallow amine ethoxylate, a nonionic surfactant, acts as a powerful wetting and penetration agent, improving the absorption of active ingredients into plant tissues. This combination ensures maximum bioavailability and performance of herbicidal actives.
[0187] In one embodiment of the present invention, ammonium sulphate particularly as a water conditioner. It helps improve the efficacy of herbicides, by binding with hard water cations such as calcium and magnesium that would otherwise reduce herbicidal absorption and activity. By preventing these ions from interacting with the active ingredient, ammonium sulphate enhances uptake into plant tissues. It may also act as a nitrogen source, supporting plant growth.
[0188] In one embodiment of the present invention, Epoxide soybean oil, a bio-based plasticizer and solvent, improves formulation compatibility, reduces phytotoxicity, and enhances the dispersion of active compounds. Derived from renewable sources, both additives support sustainable agriculture by offering low toxicity, biodegradability, and improved formulation efficiency without compromising efficacy. In one embodiment of the present invention, Siloxane Polyalkyleneoxide Copolymer, tallow amine ethoxylate, ammonium sulphate, and epoxide soybean oil are additives used individually or in combination to enhance the performance of herbicidal formulations. Siloxane Polyalkyleneoxide Copolymer, a superspreading organosilicone surfactant, reduces surface tension and improves leaf coverage and penetration of active ingredients. Tallow amine ethoxylates, as non-ionic surfactants, aid in emulsification and enhance herbicide uptake. Ammonium sulphate serves as a water conditioner, preventing hard water ions from reducing herbicide efficacy, while also acting as a nitrogen source. Epoxide soybean oil, a biodegradable solvent and plasticizer, improves formulation stability, compatibility, and reduces phytotoxicity. Used alone or synergistically, these additives optimize spray performance, improve bioavailability of actives, and support sustainable and effective crop protection.
[0189] In an embodiment, additives such as urea clathrate, Siloxane Polyalkyleneoxide Copolymer or organosilicone -based powder adjuvant, tallow amine ethoxylate, ammonium sulphate, and epoxide soybean oil either alone or in combination thereof, present in the range of 0.001 - 20% by weight of the composition.
[0190] According to embodiments of the present invention, the present stable synergistic herbicidal composition can be applied to various crops and plants including but not limited to wheat, rice, directed seeded and transplanted paddy rice, transplanted rice, transplanted rice pre-emergence (3 DAT), transplanted rice (post-emergence 20 DAT), vines, non-cropped areas including playgrounds, roadsides, cemeteries, trees, turf, sports greens & ornamental grass, ornamental shrubs, etc.
[0191] According to embodiments of the present invention, the present herbicidal composition provides synergistic and effective control against weeds including grasses such as Paspalum globsola, pigweed, rice flatsedge, Eclipta alba, Echinochloa colonum, Alternanthera sessillis, Echinochloa crusgalli, chickweed, crabgrass, Cyperus iria, creeping water primrose, Cyperus differmis, Scirpus royeli, sedges, Sphenoclea zeylenica, Stinkgrass, barnyard grass, button weed, dwarf umbrella grass, Fimbristylis miliacca, goose grass, Ludwigia parviflora, Ludwigia sp., Marsilea quadrifoliate, Ammania baccifera, wild mustard, annual sedge, annual bluegrass, Monochoria vaginalis, nut grass, etc.The weeds may be controlled by contacting the target weeds or its locus with a bioactive amount of the stable synergistic herbicidal composition of the present invention.
[0192] In yet another embodiment, the present stable synergistic herbicidal composition of the present invention can be applied to a plant / crop / soil by spraying, rubbing, atomizing, irrigating, evaporating, dusting, fogging, broadcasting, pouring, mist blowing, soil mixing, foaming, painting, spreading-on, drenching, dipping or drip irrigation, etc.
[0193] In yet another embodiment, the composition of the present invention can also comprise or may be applied together and / or sequentially with further active compounds. These further compounds can be selected from fertilizers or micronutrient donors or microorganisms or other preparations that influence plant growth, such as inoculants (e.g., a strain of nitrogen-fixing bacteria), and plant inducers.
[0194] Through the herbicidal composition of present invention, the number of applications to control wide range of weeds appearing at the same time is minimised. The composition of present invention is highly safe to the user and to the environment. The composition offers the user a single homogenous application eliminating the need for tank mix. The composition also is cost-effective as it provides much greater simultaneous control and can be used in a variety of crops with a broader spectrum of protection.

[0454] TOTAL 100.0 MANUFACTURING PROCESS:
[0455] China clay was taken in the ribbon blender for mixing. To this, Silica ppt, Sodium Isopropyl Naphthalene Sulfonate, Sodium Lignosulphonate, Sodium salt of naphthalene sulfonate formaldehyde condensate, Sodium Polycarboxylate, Lactose monohydrate, Compound of Formula I technical, Compound of Formula II technical, Compound of Formula III technical were added and mixed well.
[0456] Mixing was continued until the material became completely homogenized. The premix was then passed through the Airjet mill at 6 to 7 kg / cm2of grinding pressure and a feeding rate of 100 to 150 kg / hr so as to obtain a particle size of D90 less than 10 microns. The ground material was collected in the post blender.
[0457] Extrusion process
[0458] Into the post blender, the solution of water and Polydimethylsiloxane emulsion was added by means of spraying, and a dough was prepared. This dough was mixed well to obtain a well-hydrated mass for extrusion. The dough was then allowed to pass through the screw valve fitted with the post blender and subsequently passed through the basket extruder.Drying Process
[0459] The wet extruded granules were passed through the VFBG (vibro fluid bed drier), which had been brought to a consistent temperature of 50 °C prior to drying. The granules were then checked for moisture content, which was required to be not more than 3%. Once the parameter was set, the process was continued.
[0460] The dried granules were passed through a vibro sieve machine to separate any lumps or dust, and the desired size granules were collected and packed.

[0532] Evaluation of synergistic effect of stable synergistic herbicidal composition of the present invention
[0533] A synergistic effect of two or more products exists whenever the action of an active ingredient combination is greater than the sum of the actions of the individual components. Synergism was calculated by using Colby’s method (Weeds, vol. 15 No. 1 (Jan 1967), pp. 20-2.The synergistic action expected for a given combination of two active components can be calculated as follows:
[0534] XY
[0535] E = (X + Y) - - 100
[0536] The synergistic action expected for a given combination of three active components can be calculated as follows:
[0537] (XY+YZ+XZ) (XYZ)
[0538] E = (X + Y + Z) - + - 100 10000
[0539] Where:
[0540] E represents expected percentage of herbicidal control for the combination of the two or three active ingredients at defined doses (for example equal to x, y and z, respectively).
[0541] X is the percentage of herbicidal control observed by the compound (Compound of Formula I) at a defined dose (equal to x).
[0542] Y is the percentage of herbicidal control observed by the compound (Compound of Formula II) at a defined dose (equal to y).
[0543] Z is the percentage of herbicidal control observed by the compound (Compound of Formula III) at a defined dose (equal to z).
[0544] When the percentage of herbicidal control observed for the combination is greater than the expected percentage, there is a synergism effect.
[0545] Observed control (%)
[0546] Ratio = - Expected control (%)
[0547] Ratio of O / E > 1, synergism observed
[0548] The present invention is illustrated by way of examples, the examples are meant for illustrative purposes and should not be construed as limiting.

[0601] Treatments T1 to T28 were applied as foliar sprays, while T29 served as the untreated control. Observations were recorded for Echinochloa colona under narrow-leaf weeds and Ludwigia parviflora under broad-leaf weeds, as these were the dominant and uniformly distributed weed species in the experimental field. Although the test herbicide is effective against a wider spectrum of grassy and broad-leaf weeds, observations and statistical analyses were confined to these two representative species for standardization and clarity of results. Weed population was assessed at 30 days after application (DAA) using a 0.5 × 0.5 m (0.25 m2) quadrat placed at four random locations per plot and replicated thrice. The percent weed control efficiency (WCE) was calculated based on weed population (No. m“2). On the basis of percent WCE, the expectedcontrol was computed and compared with the observed control. The results of the trial are presented in Table 1A.

[0649] It is clearly evident from the data shown in above Table 1A for per cent weed control efficacy in rice crop that the stable synergistic herbicidal composition of the present invention comprisingCompound of Formula I + Compound of Formula II + Compound of Formula III (T1 to T3) are synergistic for weed control with > 1 Colby’s Ratio. The binary compositions of two herbicides T5 to T16 are ineffective and no synergistic effect is shown for the control of weeds. The synergy data presented herein represent the cumulative efficacy against both type of weeds such as Echinochloa colona under narrow-leaf weeds; and Ludwigia parviflora under broad-leaf weeds.
[0650] Experiment for Bio-efficacy evaluation of stable synergistic herbicidal composition of present invention:
[0651] For the ternary and binary composition based on Compound of Formula I + Compound of Formula II + Compound of Formula III evaluation under field conditions, the basic test composition as Compound of Formula I 36% + Compound of Formula II 4.4% + Compound of Formula III 3.4% was manufactured. For ternary stable synergistic herbicidal composition, Compound of Formula I 36% + Compound of Formula II 4.4% + Compound of Formula III 3.4% SC was used and for binary combination Compound of Formula I 36% + Compound of Formula II 4.4% SC, Compound of Formula I 36% + Compound of Formula III 3.4% SC, Compound of Formula II 4.4% + Compound of Formula III 3.4% SC were used. The solo formulation of Compound of Formula I 36% SC, Compound of Formula II 4.4% SC and Compound of Formula III 3.4% SC and other formulations Compound of Formula I 25% EC, Compound of Formula II 60% DF, Compound of Formula III 18.52 % w / w SC available in the market were used for comparison. Furthermore, these herbicidal treatments were compared with untreated control treatments.
[0652] Example 2- Details of experiment on rice crop:

[0700] In view of the weed flora present in the experimental field, Observations were recorded for Echinochloa colona under narrow-leaf weeds and Ludwigia parviflora under broad-leaf weeds, as these were the dominant and uniformly distributed weed species in the experimental field. Although the test herbicide is effective against a wider spectrum of grassy and broad-leaf weeds, observations and statistical analyses were confined to these two representative species forstandardization and clarity of results. Weed population was assessed at 30 days after application (DAA) using a 0.5 × 0.5 m (0.25 m2) quadrat placed at four random locations per plot and replicated thrice. All recorded data were subjected to analysis of variance (ANOVA), and the results are presented in Tables 2A, 2B and 2C.

[0906] From the example, it is clearly seen that the stable synergistic herbicidal composition of the present invention is superior for controlling the weeds at 30 days after application (Table 2 A, 2B and 2C) in rice crop as compared to the solo and binary compositions. Other registered formulated products available in the market, Compound of Formula I 25% EC, Compound of Formula II 60% DF, Compound of Formula III 18.52% SC evaluated were next in order of effectiveness after stable synergistic herbicidal composition of the present invention.
[0907] The yield of rice crop also improved in the stable synergistic herbicidal composition of present invention comprising Compound of Formula I + Compound of Formula 11+ Compound of Formula III as compared to binary, solo and other registered products in the market (Table 2B).
[0908] The disclosed stable synergistic herbicidal composition of present invention comprising Compound of Formula I + Compound of Formula 11+ Compound of Formula III @ 937.5, 1562.5, 1250 & 2500 g / ha showed no phytotoxicity in the rice crop even after 30 days of crop sowing (Table 2C).
[0909] It is evident from the above tables of examples that the synergistic herbicidal composition of the present invention Compound of Formula 1+ Compound of Formula 11+ Compound of Formula III SC resulted in good control of overall weed flora in rice with higher respective yields as compared to the reference standard products (binary compositions and solo products). Further, the composition of present invention is resulted synergistic.
[0910] In particular, it has now been found, surprisingly that, for example, the herbicidal activity of the composition of present invention, compared with the herbicidal activity of individual components, is synergistic. In fact, various advantageous properties associated with the compositions according to the invention, include but are not limited to: knock down effect on weeds at all developmental stages of weeds, preventing discoloration of leaves of plants and crops, enhanced tenderness to plants and crops, preventing ageing of plants and crops and other advantages familiar to a person skilled in the art.
[0911] From the above investigations, it will be observed that numerous modifications and variations can be effectuated without departing from the true spirit and scope of the novel concepts of the present invention. It is to be understood that no limitations with respect to the specific embodiments illustrated is intended or should be inferred. It should be understood that all suchmodifications and improvements have been deleted herein for the sake of conciseness and readability but are properly within the scope of the following claims.
