Abstract
Description
Geographic Information Providing Device, Geographic Information Providing Method, and Computer Program
[0001] The present disclosure relates to a geographic information providing device, a geographic information providing method, and a computer program for providing geographic information.
[0002] GIS (Geographic Information System) is utilized in various fields. GIS is a technology that processes and manages various data related to geographic information, visualizes it on a computer map (digital map), and enables advanced analysis and rapid judgment. Geographic information refers to information (location information) indicating the position of a specific point or area in space and information (data) related to various events associated with it, or information consisting only of location information. There are various types of geographic information. For example, as geographic information, there are various types of information such as land use maps, geological maps, hazard maps, etc. (theme maps) that represent the situation regarding specific themes such as nature, disasters, and socioeconomic activities in a region, urban planning maps, topographic maps, place name information, ledger information, statistical information, aerial photographs, and satellite images. Note that geographic information may be referred to as geospatial information, spatial data, etc.
[0003] There is a service that provides (sells) such geographic information as visual information (data) by GIS.
[0004] Note that Patent Document 1 discloses a technique in which a sample image related to image data to be sold is presented, and the image data to be sold is provided by paying a consideration.
[0005] Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2004-96405
[0006] As shown in Patent Document 1, in the field of selling image data, it is sometimes the case that low-resolution sample image data is distributed, and the high-resolution image data that is actually sold is provided in exchange for payment. On the other hand, geographic information includes multiple data associated with location information, and the types of data vary, so the data structure of geographic information is more complex than that of image data. For this reason, when it comes to the sale of geographic information, customized geographic information has been provided according to specific customers and uses. For this reason, the content of the geographic information that can be provided (sold) is mainly introduced in text, and customers have judged whether or not they need the geographic information after looking at the introduction. However, the inventors have noticed that there is a problem in that it is difficult for customers to judge whether or not the content of the geographic information to be provided will meet their requirements just by looking at the introduction of the geographic information that can be provided. Due to this problem, customers may not be able to judge whether or not the geographic information to be provided is useful to them, and as a result their desire to acquire geographic information may decrease, and they may refrain from purchasing it.
[0007] The main purpose of this disclosure is to provide a technology that helps to suppress the decline in users' motivation to acquire geographic information by making it easier to understand the content of geographic information.
[0008] To achieve the above objective, the geographic information providing device relating to this disclosure, in one embodiment, comprises: an acquisition unit that acquires geographic information for provision, including a plurality of data associated with location information; a generation unit that generates geographic information for viewing, with a reduced data volume compared to the geographic information for provision, using the acquired geographic information for provision; a presentation unit that presents the geographic information for viewing superimposed on a map in response to a viewing request; and an output unit that outputs the geographic information for provision superimposed on a map in response to a provision request.
[0009] Furthermore, the geographic information provision method relating to this disclosure, in one aspect, involves: acquiring geographic information for provision, including multiple data associated with location information, using a computer; generating geographic information for viewing, with a reduced data volume compared to the geographic information for provision, using the acquired geographic information for provision; presenting the geographic information for viewing superimposed on a map in response to a viewing request; and outputting the geographic information for provision superimposed on a map in response to a provision request.
[0010] Furthermore, the computer program relating to this disclosure, in one aspect, causes the computer to perform the following processes: acquiring geographic information for provision, which includes multiple data associated with location information; generating geographic information for viewing, which has a reduced data volume compared to the geographic information for provision, using the acquired geographic information for provision; presenting the geographic information for viewing in a manner superimposed on a map in response to a viewing request; and outputting the geographic information for provision in a manner superimposed on a map in response to a provision request.
[0011] According to this disclosure, by making it easier to understand the content of geographic information, it is possible to suppress the decline in users' willingness to acquire geographic information.

This figure illustrates other embodiments of the geographic information providing device relating to this disclosure. This is a flowchart illustrating yet another example of the operation of the geographic information providing device.
[0013] Embodiments relating to this disclosure will be described below with reference to the drawings.
[0014] <First Embodiment> The geographic information providing device (hereinafter also referred to as the providing device) of the first embodiment of this disclosure is a computer device that has the function of selling (providing) geographic information using a geographic information system (GIS). Geographic information, in this context, refers to information that includes multiple data associated with location information, and the type of data is not limited. Although the type of data is not limited, various types of data can be cited, such as measured values, calculated values calculated from measured values, map information such as place names representing locations, and information obtained from surveys such as the population of a region.
[0015] The providing device of the first embodiment has, in addition to the function of selling (providing) geographic information, the following functions for sales promotion. Specifically, the function for sales promotion (sales promotion function) is a function that presents customers with the following browsing geographic information as information representing an overview of the geographic information for sale (in other words, geographic information for provision). It should be noted that when providing (selling) the geographic information for provision, it may be slightly customized to meet the customer's needs.
[0016] In the first embodiment, the geographic information for viewing is information obtained by reducing the amount of data compared to the geographic information provided, using the geographic information provided for sale, and is presented using a geographic information system, similar to the method used to provide the geographic information provided for sale. In other words, the geographic information for viewing is presented as image data superimposed on a map. When viewed as image data, the geographic information for viewing can be described as information with a lower resolution than the geographic information for sale, or information that is blurred compared to the geographic information for sale.
[0017] The device provided in the first embodiment can present customers considering purchasing geographic information with viewable geographic information corresponding to the geographic information they are considering purchasing (geographic information for sale). Although the customer cannot view the geographic information for sale itself, the presentation of viewable geographic information allows them to view geographic information with a lower resolution than the geographic information they are considering purchasing (information that blurs the geographic information they are considering purchasing). This makes it easier for customers to determine the necessity of the geographic information they are considering purchasing, and it is expected that this will increase their purchase intent and lead to a purchase.
[0018] The configuration of the first embodiment of the providing device will be described below. Specifically, the providing device of the first embodiment is a computer device and includes an arithmetic unit 10 and a storage device 20 as shown in Figure 1. The storage device 20 has a storage medium for storing data and computer programs (hereinafter also referred to as programs) 21. There are many types of storage devices, such as magnetic disk devices and semiconductor memory elements, and furthermore, there are many types of semiconductor memory elements, such as RAM (Random Access Memory) and ROM (Read Only Memory). The providing device 1 is equipped with multiple storage devices with different purposes, but their types and number are not limited here, and their explanation will be omitted. Also, the multiple storage devices equipped in the providing device 1 will be collectively referred to as the storage device 20 without distinction.
[0019] The computing unit 10 is composed of processors such as a CPU (Central Processing Unit) and a GPU (Graphics Processing Unit). The computing unit 10 can perform various functions based on the program 21 stored in the storage device 20 by reading and executing the program 21. In this case, the computing unit 10 includes an acquisition unit 11, a generation unit 12, a presentation unit 13, and an output unit 14 as functional units related to the sale and promotion of geographic information, as shown by the solid lines in Figure 1. The providing device 1 may be a computer device that builds cloud computing (cloud) or an on-premise computer device.
[0020] The acquisition unit 11 acquires geographic information for provision (which can also be called geographic information for sale). The geographic information for provision includes multiple data associated with location information. In the first embodiment, the type of data included in the geographic information for provision is not limited, but for example, it is associated with location information such as the following. This location information is information representing the location of a point, or information representing the location of a divided area obtained by dividing a predetermined processing unit area (for example, an area corresponding to a standard regional mesh defined by the country) into multiple (for example, 16) areas, as shown in Figure 2. As mentioned above, in the first embodiment, the type of data included in the geographic information for provision is not limited, but an example is ground displacement data representing ground displacement based on measurement values acquired using SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar). Furthermore, the processing unit area is not limited to an area corresponding to a standard regional mesh, and may be set as appropriate.
[0021] The geographic information acquired by the acquisition unit 11 for provision is information with a granularity that includes data associated with multiple different location information for each processing unit area. Depending on the type of data, there may be processing unit areas that do not contain any data.
[0022] The acquisition unit 11 acquires geographic information for provision from either the storage device 20 or the database 5, which is shown by a dotted line in Figure 1. In other words, the providing device 1 may further include a calculation unit 19, as shown by a dotted line in Figure 1, which generates (calculates) geographic information for provision. If the providing device 1 includes a calculation unit 19, the acquisition unit 11 acquires the geographic information for provision that has been generated by the calculation unit 19 and stored in the storage device 20. Alternatively, the geographic information for provision may be generated (calculated) by a computer device 9, as shown by a dotted line in Figure 1, separate from the providing device 1. In this case, for example, the acquisition unit 11 acquires the geographic information for provision from the database 5, which has been generated by the computer device 9 and stored in the database 5. The method for generating (calculating) geographic information for provision is a method that depends on the type of data included in the geographic information, and its explanation is omitted here.
[0023] The acquisition unit 11 stores the acquired geographic information for provision in the storage device 20. The geographic information for provision stored in the storage device 20 is associated with provision information identification information that identifies the geographic information.
[0024] The generation unit 12 generates geographic information for viewing with a reduced data volume compared to the geographic information for provision, using the acquired geographic information for provision. That is, the generation unit 12 generates geographic information for viewing by performing a data reduction process on the acquired geographic information for provision. There are several types of data reduction processes, which can be set as appropriate by the designer of the provisioning device 1, etc., but one example of a data reduction process is data decimation. Data decimation is a process that removes data from multiple data associated with the location information of multiple points (represented by black dots in Figure 3) in the geographic information for provision, as shown in Figure 3. By applying such decimation to the geographic information for provision, geographic information for viewing with a reduced data volume can be provided.
[0025] Another example of data reduction processing is statistical processing. Statistical processing here refers to the process of statistically analyzing the data of the geographic information provided, associated with the location information corresponding to each division area, for example, when the processing unit area, as shown in Figure 4, is divided into a predetermined number of division areas. Statistical analysis here means calculating representative values for each division area, such as the mean, median, and mode. By performing such statistical processing on the geographic information provided, geographic information for viewing is generated. In other words, in the geographic information for viewing, the representative values calculated for each division area are associated with location information representing the position of the division area (for example, the center position of the division area) as data constituting the geographic information for viewing.
[0026] The generation unit 12 stores the generated geographic information for viewing in the storage device 20. The geographic information for viewing stored in the storage device 20 is associated with viewing information identification information that identifies the geographic information. In addition, the storage device 20 stores relationship data (relationship data of identification information) between the viewing information identification information of the geographic information for viewing and the provision information identification information of the provision geographic information that is the source of the viewing information, in order to associate the geographic information for viewing with the provision geographic information from which the geographic information for viewing originated.
[0027] The display unit 13 presents the geographic information for viewing in a manner superimposed on a map in response to a viewing request. A viewing request is a request to view the geographic information for viewing, and is sent, for example, from a terminal device 3, which is an information device (computer device) as shown in Figure 1. The terminal device 3 is a device handled by, for example, a customer (user) 2 who is considering purchasing the geographic information for provision, and can be connected to the provision device 1. In other words, the terminal device 3 has a communication function and a display control function that controls the display device 7 to display information. The type of terminal device 3 is not limited to information devices that have a communication function and a display control function, but specific examples include smartphones, tablets, and personal computers. Note that when the terminal device 3 is a smartphone or tablet, the display device 7 is integrated with the terminal device 3, but when the terminal device 3 is a personal computer, the display device 7 may be external.
[0028] The connection between terminal device 3 and service provider 1 is performed by an application program (app) that provides terminal device 3 with functions to cooperate with service provider 1. Alternatively, the connection between terminal device 3 and service provider 1 may be performed by a browser (software for viewing information on the internet). Whether the connection between terminal device 3 and service provider 1 is performed by an app or a browser is set as appropriate by the designer of service provider 1, etc., and is not limited here.
[0029] For example, through the display control operation of the terminal device 3 in cooperation with the providing device 1, the display device 7 displays an overview of the geographic information that the providing device 1 can provide, for example, in text or the like, as shown in Figure 5. If multiple pieces of geographic information can be provided, these multiple pieces of geographic information that can be provided may be displayed in a list. On the display screen of such a display device 7, for example, a viewing request icon 72, as shown in Figure 5, is displayed. The viewing request icon 72 functions as an operation unit for inputting a viewing request (command) that the customer 2 inputs to the terminal device 3. When such a viewing request icon 72 is displayed, the customer 2 can indicate the viewing request icon 72 by operating the terminal device 3 using an information input device (not shown), such as a mouse, and a viewing request (command for viewing request) is sent from the terminal device 3 to the providing device 1. This viewing request is associated with identification information (i.e., providing information identification information) that identifies the geographic information to be viewed.
[0030] When the presentation unit 13 receives a viewing request, it reads the geographic information for viewing the requested subject from the storage device 20 in accordance with the viewing request. This reading of the geographic information for viewing uses the information provision identification information associated with the viewing request and the relationship data of the identification information (relationship data between the information provision identification information and the viewing information identification information). In other words, the presentation unit 13 uses the relationship data of the identification information to obtain the viewing information identification information corresponding to the information provision identification information associated with the viewing request, and reads the geographic information for viewing associated with (linked to) the obtained viewing information identification information from the storage device 20.
[0031] The display unit 13 outputs the read geographic information for viewing to the terminal device 3, which is the source of the viewing request. The display unit 13 further displays the geographic information for viewing output to the terminal device 3 on the display screen of the display device 7 in a manner superimposed on a map, in cooperation with the terminal device 3. The display method for displaying the geographic information for viewing superimposed on a map is a display method corresponding to the display method of the corresponding geographic information for provision (i.e., the geographic information for provision that is the basis of the geographic information for viewing). There are various display methods for the geographic information for viewing and the geographic information for provision, and the display method selected considering the type of data is adopted, and the display methods for the geographic information for viewing and the geographic information for provision are not limited here. Thus, the display method for geographic information is not limited here, but one example is a heat map. A heat map visualizes data values using shades of gray and color, as shown in Figure 6.
[0032] Another example of a method for displaying geographic information is a method in which the data is represented by a pie chart, as shown in Figure 7, or by other graphs (such as bar graphs or line graphs). Yet another example of a method for displaying geographic information is a method in which the data content for a specific location is displayed in a pop-up window using text and graphics. In other words, when customer 2 indicates (clicks) a location on the map for which they want to know the data content, the data content associated with the location information of the indicated location may be displayed in text and graphics within a pop-up window.
[0033] As mentioned above, the display methods for geographic information for viewing and geographic information for provision are the same, but because the granularity of information (data) in geographic information for viewing is coarser than that of geographic information for provision, the appearance and content of the data displayed on the map differ. For example, if the display of geographic information for provision superimposed on a map is a heat map as shown in Figure 8, then the display of geographic information for viewing superimposed on a map will be a coarser display as shown in Figure 9.
[0034] The output unit 14 outputs the geographic information to be provided superimposed on a map in response to a provision request. A provision request here is a request to purchase geographic information (in other words, to have it provided), and is sent, for example, from the terminal device 3. That is, through the display control operation of the terminal device 3 in cooperation with the provision device 1, the display device 7 displays an overview of the geographic information available for provision, as shown in Figure 5 above. On the display screen of the display device 7, a purchase icon 74, as shown in Figure 5, is displayed. This purchase icon 74 functions as an operation unit for inputting a provision request, in which the customer 2 inputs information indicating their intention to purchase geographic information into the terminal device 3. When the purchase icon 74 is displayed, the customer 2 operates the terminal device 3 and, by indicating the purchase icon 74, a provision request (sales command) is sent from the terminal device 3 to the provision device 1. This provision request is associated with identification information that identifies the geographic information to be purchased (i.e., provision information identification information). Furthermore, when providing geographic information in units of defined service areas, the service request is further associated with information representing the requested area (service request area information). There are various methods for customer 2 to input the service request area information into terminal device 3, and these are not limited to any particular method. Thus, the input method for service request area information is not limited, but for example, one input method is in which customer 2 uses an input device such as a mouse to input the area specified by customer 2 as service request area information on a map displayed on display device 7.
[0035] When the output unit 14 receives a provision request as described above, it uses the provision information identification information associated with the provision request to read the geographic information for provision of the requested subject from the storage device 20 or database 5. In this case, if provision request area information is associated with the provision request, the output unit 14 extracts and reads the geographic information of the area represented by the provision request area information from the geographic information for provision of the requested subject. The output unit 14 further outputs the read geographic information for provision to the terminal device 3 that originated the provision request. The output unit 14 further displays the geographic information for provision output to the terminal device 3 on the display screen of the display device 7 in a manner superimposed on a map by coordinating with the terminal device 3. As mentioned above, there are various display methods for displaying the geographic information for provision superimposed on a map, and a display method selected considering the type of data is adopted. In the first embodiment, the output unit 14 has a function to further perform sales-related processing when outputting (providing) the geographic information for provision to the customer 2, but the method of sales-related processing is not limited here, so its explanation is omitted.
[0036] The providing device 1 of the first embodiment has the configuration described above. Next, an example of the operation of the providing device 1 will be explained using the flowchart in Figure 10. Figure 10 can also be said to represent an example of a geographic information providing method.
[0037] For example, when an operator of the providing device 1 inputs a generation command to generate geographic information for viewing into the providing device 1, the acquisition unit 11 acquires the geographic information for viewing from the database 5 or storage device 20 (step 101 in Figure 10). The generation command is associated with information identification information for providing. This information identification information for providing is identification information that identifies the geographic information for providing, which is the source data from which geographic information for viewing is generated. The acquisition unit 11 uses this information identification information for providing to acquire the geographic information for providing to be obtained from the database 5 or storage device 20. Subsequently, the generation unit 12 generates geographic information for viewing by performing a data reduction process using the acquired geographic information for providing (step 102). The generation unit 12 stores the generated geographic information for viewing in the storage device 20.
[0038] Subsequently, when a viewing request is received from terminal device 3, the presentation unit 13 uses the information identification information associated with the viewing request and the related data of the identification information to read the geographic information for viewing that is the subject of the viewing request from the storage device 20. The presentation unit 13 outputs the read geographic information for viewing to terminal device 3, the source of the viewing request. In cooperation with terminal device 3, the presentation unit 13 displays (presents) the geographic information for viewing on the display device 7 in a manner in which it is superimposed on a map (step 103).
[0039] Subsequently, when the output unit 14 receives a request for provision from the terminal device 3, it uses the provision information identification information associated with the request to read the geographic information for provision that is the subject of the request from the storage device 20 or database 5. Furthermore, the output unit 14 outputs the read geographic information for provision to the terminal device 3 that originated the request for provision (step 104).
[0040] As described above, the providing device 1 of the first embodiment generates geographic information for viewing by reducing the amount of data from the geographic information for providing, and has a configuration that allows it to present the geographic information for viewing to customer 2 using the same display method as the geographic information for providing. Although the amount of data in the geographic information for viewing is reduced compared to the geographic information for providing, the display method is the same as that for the geographic information for providing. Therefore, customer 2 can easily decide whether or not to purchase the geographic information for providing that they are considering purchasing (in other words, whether or not they need the geographic information they are considering purchasing) using the geographic information for viewing. This is expected to prevent situations where customer 2 decides against purchasing due to indecision about whether or not to purchase. In short, the providing device 1 can suppress a decline in the user's desire to acquire geographic information by making it easy to understand the content of the geographic information.
[0041] <Other Embodiments> This disclosure is not limited to the first embodiment and can take various forms. For example, the providing device 1 of the first embodiment is configured to provide geographic information using a Geographic Information System (GIS). In contrast, the providing device 1 may be configured to present geographic information superimposed on a map without using a Geographic Information System (GIS). Furthermore, the providing device 1 of the first embodiment has a function for selling geographic information. Alternatively, the providing device 1 may be a device that simply provides geographic information. In this case, the output unit 14 can omit the function for executing sales-related processing.
[0042] Furthermore, multiple pieces of geographic information with different accuracy levels may be prepared (generated) for provision based on the same source data, categorized into predetermined ranks. In this case, for example, price information for geographic information is predetermined such that the selling price increases as the rank increases (i.e., the accuracy level of the provided geographic information increases). The output unit 14 includes a function to calculate the selling price using the rank of the provided geographic information and the price information as part of the sales process.
[0043] Furthermore, the geographic information providing device in this disclosure may also take the configuration shown in Figure 11. The geographic information providing device 60 shown in Figure 11 is, for example, a computer device and comprises an acquisition unit 61, a generation unit 62, a presentation unit 63, and an output unit 64 as functional units realized by executing a computer program. The acquisition unit 61 acquires geographic information for provision, which includes a plurality of data associated with location information. The generation unit 62 uses the acquired geographic information for provision to generate geographic information for viewing, which has a reduced amount of data compared to the geographic information for provision. The presentation unit 63 presents the geographic information for viewing in a manner superimposed on a map in response to a viewing request. The output unit 64 outputs the geographic information for provision in a manner superimposed on a map in response to a provision request. In addition, the acquisition unit 11, generation unit 12, presentation unit 13, and output unit 14 of the geographic information providing device (providing device) 1 described in the first embodiment are examples of the acquisition unit 61, generation unit 62, presentation unit 63, and output unit 64, respectively.
[0044] The geographical information providing apparatus 60 shown in FIG. 11 has the configuration as described above. Next, an example of the operation in the geographical information providing apparatus 60 will be described with reference to FIG. 12. FIG. 12 is a flowchart for explaining an example of the operation of the geographical information providing apparatus 60. It can also be said that FIG. 12 is a diagram for explaining an example of the geographical information providing method.
[0045] For example, the acquisition unit 61 acquires geographical information for providing that includes a plurality of data associated with the position information (step 201 in FIG. 12). Thereafter, the generation unit 62 generates geographical information for browsing with a reduced data amount compared to the acquired geographical information for providing using the acquired geographical information for providing (step 202).
[0046] Thereafter, the presentation unit 63 presents the geographical information for browsing in a mode superimposed on a map in response to a browsing request (step 203). The output unit 64 outputs the geographical information for providing in a mode superimposed on a map in response to a providing request (step 204).
[0047] The geographical information providing apparatus 60 has the configuration as described above, and can present the geographical information for browsing to the user, thereby making it easy to grasp the content of the geographical information and suppressing a decrease in the user's willingness to acquire geographical information.
[0048] Some or all of the above embodiments may also be described as follows, but are not limited to the following: (Note 1) A geographic information providing device comprising: an acquisition unit that acquires geographic information for provision, which includes a plurality of data associated with location information; a generation unit that generates geographic information for viewing, which has a reduced amount of data than the geographic information for provision, using the acquired geographic information for provision; a presentation unit that presents the geographic information for viewing in a manner superimposed on a map in response to a viewing request; and an output unit that outputs the geographic information for provision in a manner superimposed on a map in response to a provision request.
