Abstract
Description
Display device
[0001] The present invention relates to a display device having a design in which an infrared receiver receiving a signal from a remote control is not exposed to the outside.
[0002] As the information society develops, the demand for displays is increasing in various forms. In response to this, recent displays include Liquid Crystal Displays (LCDs), Field Emission Displays (FEDs), Plasma Display Panels (PDPs), and Electroluminescence Devices.
[0003] A liquid crystal panel of a liquid crystal display includes a liquid crystal layer and a TFT substrate and a color filter substrate facing each other with the liquid crystal layer in between, and can display an image using light provided from a backlight unit.
[0004] As an example of an electroluminescence device, an active matrix type organic light-emitting display device is commercially available. Since organic light-emitting display devices are self-emissive, they do not require a backlight compared to liquid crystal display devices and offer advantages in response speed and viewing angle, making them a focus of attention as next-generation displays.
[0005] Recently, materials such as Organic Light Emitting Diodes (OLEDs) can realize curved display devices because they emit light on their own without a backlight structure on the back, enabling the implementation of flexible display modules.
[0006] Not only is the thickness of the display decreasing, but the size of the non-display area located around the display's display area is also shrinking. As the size of the case surrounding the display also decreases, and the bezel size, which includes the non-display area and the case surrounding the front, is reduced to less than 1 cm, bezel-less display devices are becoming mainstream.
[0007] In addition, recent display devices may include antennas and wireless signal receivers that transmit and receive various wireless signals, in addition to performing communication via wires. A representative example is an infrared receiver that receives signals from a remote control using infrared.
[0008] Since the remote control signal is provided from the front where the image of the display device is output, the remote control receiver must be positioned facing forward. However, as the bezel of the display panel is reduced, there is insufficient space to install the infrared receiver; consequently, conventional display devices positioned the infrared receiver in a protruding form on the bottom of the main body.
[0009] However, there is a problem in that the infrared receiver protruding from the bottom of the main body may be damaged during transport or additional protective materials must be added to protect it.
[0010] The present invention aims to provide a display device with an excellent design and to reduce damage to the infrared receiver by minimizing the structure of the infrared receiver protruding from the bottom of the display device body.
[0011] A display device is provided that includes: a display panel; a main board mounted on the back surface of the display panel; an infrared receiver mounted on the main board and facing downward; and a light guide extending from the bottom of the display panel to the bottom of the infrared receiver and comprising a light-transmitting material, wherein the light guide includes a light-input surface located at the bottom of the display panel; and a light-output surface facing the infrared receiver.
[0012] The infrared receiver can be located at the horizontal center of the light-emitting surface.
[0013] It further includes an illuminance sensor mounted on the main board adjacent to the infrared receiver, and the illuminance sensor may be positioned opposite the light-emitting surface of the light guide.
[0014] The light guide may include a horizontal guide extending backward from the light entry surface and a vertical guide extending vertically from the light exit surface and connected to the horizontal guide.
[0015] The corners of the connection portion between the horizontal guide and the vertical guide may include inclined reflective surfaces.
[0016] The above-mentioned display panel includes a case top that covers the front perimeter and sides, and the light entry surface of the light guide may be located behind the bottom part of the case top.
[0017] A 45° diagonal extension line from the bottom corner of the case top can reach the upper half of the light-receiving surface.
[0018] The bottom corner of the case top may include a chamfer connecting the front and bottom surfaces.
[0019] It may further include a guide bracket that secures the light guide to the case top.
[0020] It may include a power switch mounted on the main board; and a power button formed on the guide bracket and covering the power switch.
[0021] It may include an LED lamp mounted on the main board; and an LED guide disposed adjacent to the light guide and extending from the LED lamp to the lower part of the display panel.
[0022] The LED guide comprises a light receiving portion located at the bottom of the LED lamp; a bent portion located at the bottom of the light receiving portion and inclined toward the front; and a light emitting portion extending forward from the bent portion, wherein the bent portion may include a first inclined reflective surface inclined toward the front on its lower surface.
[0023] The above-mentioned bend may include a second inclined reflective surface facing the first inclined reflective surface.
[0024] The above-mentioned light guide and the above-mentioned LED guide are connected to a guide bracket made of an opaque material, and the guide bracket can cover the lower part of the LED guide.
[0025] The front end of the light guide may include an extension portion that extends laterally to cover the front end of the LED guide.
[0026] It may include guide hooks that protrude from both sides of the light-emitting surface of the light guide and are inserted into the main substrate.
[0027] The display device of the present invention eliminates a protruding structure at the bottom, thereby reducing damage during transport or use of the product and having an excellent design effect.
[0028] In addition, the display device of the present invention can sufficiently secure the reception rate of the infrared receiver and the amount of light detected by the illuminance sensor.
[0029] In addition, the display device of the present invention can reduce the number of boards by mounting an infrared receiver, an illuminance sensor, an LED lamp, a power button, etc., on the main board.
[0030] In addition, the display device of the present invention can simplify the assembly process by implementing an infrared receiver, an illuminance sensor, a light guide structure for an LED lamp, and a power button into a single assembly.
[0031] In addition, the display device of the present invention can reduce the deviation in the amount of light entering the illuminance sensor, thereby improving the accuracy of the illuminance sensor.

[0054] Accordingly, the display device (100) described in the present invention can perform various user-friendly functions, for example, by allowing various applications to be freely added or deleted on a general-purpose OS kernel. More specifically, the display device (100) can be, for example, a network TV, HBB TV, smart TV, etc., and can also be applied to a smartphone depending on the case.
[0055] FIG. 1 is a front view illustrating an example of a display device of the present invention. The display device (100) includes a display panel (150) that occupies most of the front surface area, a case top (111) that covers the front perimeter and sides of the display panel (150), and a cover bottom (112) that covers the rear surface.
[0056] The display device (100) of the present invention may have a rectangular body comprising a pair of long sides and a pair of short sides. Although a long side extending in the horizontal direction and a short side extending in the vertical direction are shown in the drawing, the long side and the short side may have the same length, and a form in which the long side is arranged in the vertical direction is also possible.
[0057] For the sake of convenience of explanation, the description is based on an example where the side extended horizontally is the long side and the side extended vertically is the short side, but as previously stated, it is not limited thereto.
[0058] The side where the display device (100) displays an image may be referred to as the front or front side. When the display device (100) displays an image, the side where the image cannot be observed may be referred to as the rear or rear side. When the display device displays an image, the side where the image cannot be observed may be referred to as the rear (rearward direction) or rear (rear side or rear surface).
[0059] The display device (100) may include a display panel (150) that outputs an image. The display panel (150) may generate a driving signal by converting an image signal, data signal, OSD signal, control signal processed by a control unit, or an image signal, data signal, control signal, etc. received from an interface unit. The display panel (150) may include a display panel having a plurality of pixels.
[0060] A plurality of pixels provided in the display panel may have RGB subpixels. Alternatively, a plurality of pixels provided in the display panel may have RGBW subpixels. The display panel (150) can convert an image signal, data signal, OSD signal, control signal, etc. processed by the control unit to generate a driving signal for a plurality of pixels.
[0061] The display panel (150) can be a PDP (Plasma Display Panel), LCD (Liquid Crystal Display), OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode), flexible display, etc., and can also be a 3D display. The 3D display panel (150) can be classified into a glasses-free type and a glasses type.
[0062] Organic Light Emitting Diodes (OLEDs) emerged in earnest in the mid-2010s and are rapidly replacing LCDs in the small and medium-sized display market. OLEDs are displays created using the self-luminous phenomenon where fluorescent organic compounds emit light when an electric current flows through them; they have a faster image response speed compared to LCDs, resulting in almost no ghosting when displaying videos.
[0063] OLEDs use three types of phosphor organic compounds, such as red, green, and blue, which have self-emissive functions. Since they are light-emitting display products that utilize the phenomenon where electrons injected from the cathode and anode combine with positively charged particles within the organic material to emit light on their own, they do not require a backlight that degrades color quality.
[0064] OLEDs do not require a backlight unit, so their layered structure is relatively simple. Unlike liquid crystals, guide panels for aligning each layer are not required, so the case structure is also simple.
[0065] The display panel (150) can use an organic light-emitting diode to omit the backlight and can have a thin structure. The module cover (120) supporting the back of the display panel (150) can be made of a metal material to have sufficient rigidity to support the thin display panel (150). When made of a metal material, it has the advantage of excellent heat dissipation performance.
[0066] The display panel (150) includes a display area where a plurality of pixels are located and the color of each pixel changes and outputs an image, and a non-display area (bezel) located around the display area and where signal lines connecting signals are arranged.
[0067] The size of the non-display area may be 1 cm or less, and the size of the non-display area at the bottom where the flexible substrate (158) for connecting to the main board is placed may be larger than the other perimeter. Since no image is output in the non-display area, it may include a black coating layer to cover the signal line.
[0068] A bottom assembly (160) located at the bottom of the display device (100) may be further included. As the size of the bezel of the display device (100) decreases, there is a limit to positioning devices other than the display panel so that they face forward.
[0069] In particular, an infrared receiver that receives an infrared signal from a remote control incident from the front of a display device (100), or an illuminance sensor that measures the amount of light in front of a display panel, must receive light incident from the front.
[0070] In a conventional display device (100) with a sufficiently large bezel, an infrared receiver and an illuminance sensor are placed using a part of the bezel, but recently, an illuminance sensor and an infrared receiver can be placed at the bottom using a separate bracket.
[0071] However, if the bottom assembly (160) protruding from the bottom of the display device (100) has a large amount of protrusion, it becomes a factor that spoils the simple appearance of the display device (100), and there is a problem that the bottom assembly (160) is damaged during transportation or use.
[0072] Accordingly, the display device (100) of the present invention reduces the size of the bottom assembly (160) by omitting the substrate on which the infrared receiver and the light sensor are mounted from the bottom assembly (160) in order to minimize the size of the bottom assembly (160) protruding from the bottom.
[0073] FIG. 2 is a drawing showing a part of the lower portion of the main board (181) of the display device (100) of the present invention. As the lower portion of the main board (181) located adjacent to the bottom assembly (160), an infrared receiver (142), an illuminance sensor (143), an LED light source, and a power switch (195) may be arranged.
[0074] In the past, a display device (100) may include a plurality of boards divided by function, such as a power board for distributing power, a T-con board for controlling a display panel (150), and an optical board positioned facing forward, such as an infrared receiver (142) or an illuminance sensor (143), in addition to a main board (181).
[0075] The display device (100) of the present invention can reduce the number of substrates and simultaneously reduce the size of the bottom assembly (160) by omitting the optical substrate that was placed in the conventional bottom assembly (160) and placing the infrared receiver (142) and the illuminance sensor (143) on the main substrate (181) mounted on the back of the display device (100).
[0076] FIG. 3 is a perspective view illustrating a bottom assembly (160) of a display device (100) of the present invention, and FIG. 4 is an exploded perspective view illustrating a bottom assembly (160) of a display device (100) of the present invention.
[0077] The bottom assembly (160) of the present invention may include a light guide (162) made of a transparent material having an L-shape, a guide bracket (161) on which the light guide (162) is seated and which is coupled to a cover bottom (112), and an LED guide (164) that provides light from an LED light source forward.
[0078] The guide bracket (161) may include a first mounting portion (1611) on which the light guide (162) is mounted and a second mounting portion (1612) on which the LED guide (164) is mounted, and may be fastened to the cover bottom (112). The guide bracket (161) may include a power button (1615) having an actuator formed therein. The power button (1615) is located below the power switch (195) of FIG. 2, and the user can turn the power switch (195) ON / OFF when pressing the power button (1615).
[0079] The bottom assembly (160) may include a light guide (162) so that light can be supplied to an infrared receiver (142) and an illuminance sensor (143) located on the back. The light guide (162) is made of a transparent material that totally reflects light incident at an angle greater than a predetermined angle (critical angle) and can supply infrared signals and light from the front to the infrared receiver (142) and the illuminance sensor (143) located on the back.
[0080] As shown in FIG. 2, the lower part of the main board (181) on which the infrared receiver (142) and the light sensor (143) are mounted can be formed with a step (181b) that is concave upward so that a light guide (162) can be placed thereon.
[0081] FIG. 5 is a cross-sectional perspective view of a display device (100) of the present invention. The display device (100) of the present invention may include a display panel (150) located on the front, a cover bottom (112) located on the back of the display panel (150), a main board (181) seated on the back of the cover bottom (112), and a back cover (113, FIG. 6) that covers the main board (181) and is connected to the cover bottom (112).
[0082] It may include a frame-shaped case top (111) having an L-shaped cross-section that covers a non-display area located around the front perimeter of the display panel (150) and covers the side perimeter of the display panel (150).
[0083] It may include a flexible substrate (158) that is connected to the display panel (150) between the bottom of the display panel (150) and the case top (111) and extends to the back of the display panel (150). The end of the flexible substrate (158) is connected to a panel substrate that controls the display panel (150), and the panel substrate may be seated at the bottom of the cover bottom (112) on the back of the display panel (150). It may further include a panel substrate shield (159) that covers the back of the panel substrate.
[0084] The main board (181) mounted on the back of the cover bottom (112) is connected to the panel board to provide control information for each pixel of the display panel (150) to the panel board, and is connected to various sensors, a power supply unit, an antenna, etc., and is responsible for the overall control of the display device (100).
[0085] As described above, in the past, multiple substrates were arranged differently according to function and location, but since the assembly process and manufacturing costs increased, the infrared receiver (142) and the illuminance sensor (143) can be mounted on the main substrate (181) to reduce the number of substrates. The infrared receiver (142) and the illuminance sensor (143) can be arranged to face downward, and the end of the vertical guide (1624) of the light guide (162) can face the infrared receiver (142) and the illuminance sensor (143).
[0086] FIG. 6 is a cross-sectional view of a display device (100) of the present invention. The light guide (162) has an L-shaped cross-section and may be composed of a horizontal guide located at the bottom of the display device (100) and a vertical guide (1624) extending upward from the rear end of the horizontal guide (1622).
[0087] The front end of the horizontal guide (1622) includes a light-receiving surface (1621) into which light provided from an external light source (200) is incident. The external light source (200) may be an infrared signal emitted from a remote control that controls the display device (100), or it may be lighting in the space where the display device (100) is installed.
[0088] Light incident on the light inlet surface (1621) is totally reflected at the horizontal guide (1622) and transmitted to the rear. The reflective surface (1623) located between the horizontal guide (1622) and the vertical guide (1624) reflects the light that travels along the horizontal guide (1622) to the vertical guide (1624), and the light is totally reflected at the vertical guide (1624) and emitted to the light outlet surface (1625) located at the top of the vertical guide (1624).
[0089] The light-emitting surface (1625) of the vertical guide (1624) may be positioned facing downwards, facing an infrared receiver (142) and an illuminance sensor (143). The infrared receiver (142) can receive an infrared signal and recognize user input entered via a remote control. The illuminance sensor (143) can measure the amount of light incident through the light guide (162).
[0090] The light guide (162) may include guide hooks (1628) located on both sides of the light-emitting surface (1625) to fix the position on the main board (181). The main board (181) may include a pair of hook holes (181h) located on both sides of the infrared receiver (142) and the illuminance sensor (143).
[0091] The light guide (162) may further include a fastening projection (1629) extending in the rearward direction from the vertical guide (1624) to be fastened to the guide bracket (161), and the fastening projection (1629) is positioned corresponding to the position of the guide hook so as not to substantially affect the amount of light transmitted to the infrared receiver (142) and the illuminance sensor (143).
[0092] The light-inducing surface (1621) can be positioned at the rear end of the case top (111) rather than the front end, as the more it protrudes forward, the easier it is for light to be incident, but this affects the appearance of the display device (100) and poses a risk of damage.
[0093] When light incident from indoor lighting is incident at a 45° angle, the position of the light-input surface (1621) can be arranged so that a line extended at a 45° angle from the bottom corner of the case top (111) is located in the upper half of the light-input surface (1621).
[0094] The corners of the case top (111) can be formed with a chamfer (111a) to have a slope as shown in FIG. 5, and through the chamfer (111a), the position of the light receiving surface (1621) can be positioned further back from the front of the display device (100).
[0095] The reflective surface (1623) may have a 45° angle and reflects light passing through the horizontal guide (1622) to be supplied to the vertical guide (1624). Light emitted from the light-emitting surface (1625) located at the top of the vertical guide (1624) may be supplied to an infrared receiver (142) and an illuminance sensor (143). The infrared receiver (142) may be positioned at the horizontal center of the light-emitting surface (1625) of the light guide (162) so as to recognize signals incident from various angles.
[0096] FIG. 7 is a side view of the light guide (162) of the display device (100) of the present invention. In FIG. 6, only the light guide (162), infrared receiver (142), illuminance sensor (143), substrate, and case top (111) are shown. As described above, the light-receiving surface (1621) of the light guide (162) can be positioned so that a 45° oblique extension line from the bottom corner of the case top (111) touches the upper half of the light-receiving surface (1621).
[0097] Since the vertical guide (1624) is located below the infrared receiver (142) and the light sensor (143), the length of the horizontal guide (1622) can be the length from the light receiving surface (1621) to the position of the vertical guide (1624). If it protrudes further forward, the size exposed to the user's field of vision increases, so it can be positioned slightly behind the corner of the case top (111).
[0098] As the thickness of the light receiving surface (1621) (vertical direction in the drawing) increases, the amount exposed to the outside increases, and if it is positioned further back than the corner of the case top (111), there is a problem of reduced reception rate of infrared signals. Therefore, the light receiving surface (1621) of the light guide (142) of the present invention can be configured to have a thickness of 3 mm.
[0099] The thickness of the light-emitting surface (1625) (horizontal direction in the drawing) can be configured to a size that can cover the infrared receiver (142) to increase the reception rate. However, if it is formed too large compared to the infrared receiver (142), there is a problem in that the reception rate of the infrared signal tilted from the side does not meet the standard.
[0100] Accordingly, the light-emitting surface (1625) may have a thickness corresponding to the thickness of the infrared receiver (142). Considering that a tolerance may occur when installing the light guide (162) on the main board (181), the size of the light-emitting surface (1625) may be equal to the thickness of the infrared receiver (142) or larger within 0.5 mm. In this embodiment, the size of the light-emitting surface (1625) may be configured to have 3.5 mm, which is larger than the light-receiving surface (1621).
[0101] The light guide (162) can measure the amount of light by supplying not only infrared signals but also visible light incident on the light input surface (1621) to the light sensor (143). The light sensor (143) is positioned adjacent to the infrared receiver (142) and may be positioned off-center from the center of the light output surface (1625) of the light guide (162). Since the light sensor (143) comprehensively measures light incident from a wide range rather than straight light incident from a specific direction, the horizontal position of the light output surface (1625) of the light guide (162) does not significantly affect the performance of the light sensor (143).
[0102] The guide bracket (161) may have a first mounting portion (1611) on which the light guide (162) is mounted, a second mounting portion (1612) on which the LED guide (164) is mounted, and a power button (1615) located below the power switch (195). The power button (1615) and the second mounting portion (1612) may be located on both sides of the first mounting portion (1611), and the power button (1615) may be positioned to face the lower surface of the display device (100).
[0103] The light guide (162) has a wide width in the horizontal direction because it receives external light, but the LED guide (164) may have a narrow width because it is configured to supply light emitted from the LED lamp (144) forward. Therefore, the width of the first mounting portion (1611) may be wide and the width of the second mounting portion (1612) may be narrow.
[0104] FIG. 8 is a perspective view illustrating an LED lamp (144) of a display device (100) of the present invention and an LED guide (164) of a bottom assembly (160). The LED lamp (144) is a device that indicates the status of the display device (100), and can indicate whether the power is ON / OFF or whether there is a malfunction by changing the color.
[0105] The LED guide (164) may include a light inlet section (1641) located at the bottom of the LED lamp (144), a bent section (1642) inclined forward from the bottom of the light inlet section (1641), and a light outlet section (1643) extending forward from the bent section (1642). The light path of the LED guide (164) is opposite to that of the light guide (162), and the light inlet section (1641) transmits the light of the LED lamp (144), which is incident vertically from the light inlet surface (1644) on the upper surface, downward in a vertical direction.
[0106] Since the LED guide (164) transmits light from the LED lamp (144), when formed integrally with the light guide (162), the light from the LED lamp (144) can be recognized as external light by the light sensor (143), and the light from the LED lamp (144) spreads out so that the LED light emitted on the front can appear dim.
[0107] Accordingly, the bottom assembly (160) of the present invention is individually equipped with a light guide (162) that guides light to an infrared receiver (142) and an illuminance sensor (143), and an LED guide (164) that emits light from an LED lamp (144). The guide bracket (161) divides a first mounting portion (1611) where the light guide (162) is mounted and a second mounting portion (1612) where the LED guide (164) is mounted, so that the light from the LED lamp (144) does not affect the illuminance sensor (143).
[0108] The bent portion (1642) includes a first inclined reflective surface (1646) that is inclined toward the front on the lower surface, and may have a 45° angle so that light reflected from the first inclined reflective surface (1646) is reflected in a horizontal direction. The LED guide (164) may also be made of a transparent material and may be made of the same material as the light guide (162), but may also be made of a different material.
[0109] The LED guide (164) has a small amount of light reflected except for the first inclined reflective surface (1646) and can have a right-angled light path as shown in FIG. 8, so a material that takes into account the straightness of light can be used, unlike the light guide (162) which undergoes total reflection.
[0110] Since the light emitted from the LED lamp (144) can spread out at a predetermined angle, some of it may be reflected. A second inclined reflective surface (1647) facing the first inclined reflective surface (1646) can be provided to guide the reflected light so that it moves forward along the light-emitting part (1643).
[0111] To fix the LED guide (164) to the guide bracket (161), it may further include a fixing part (1649) protruding rearward from the light receiving part (1641), and positioned above the first inclined reflective surface (1646), so that the amount of light from the LED lamp (144) entering the fixing part (1649) is almost zero.
[0112] Referring to FIG. 4, the second guide may have a shape that covers the lower part of the light-emitting portion (1643) of the LED guide (164). Since there is a problem of light reflecting off the floor surface or display cabinet located at the bottom of the display device (100) when the LED guide (164) is exposed downward, the lower part of the LED guide (164) can be covered with a guide bracket (161).
[0113] As shown in FIG. 3, the light guide (162) can be extended laterally (1627) to cover the light-emitting surface (1645) of the LED guide (164). The extension (1627) can be in the same plane as the light-receiving surface (1621) of the light guide (162).
[0114] Through the extension (1627) of the light guide (162), the most protruding part forward that is exposed to the user of the bottom assembly (160) can be formed as a single component to simplify the appearance.
[0115] In addition, the infrared signal incident on the front of the LED guide (164) can also be transmitted to the infrared receiver (142) through the light guide (162), thereby improving the reception rate of the infrared receiver (142).
[0116] Additionally, the extension (1627) of the light guide (162) can fix the position of the LED guide (164) in the front.
[0117] As seen above, the display device of the present invention eliminates a protruding structure at the bottom, thereby reducing damage during transport or use of the product and having excellent design effects.
[0118] In addition, the display device (100) of the present invention can sufficiently secure the reception rate of the infrared receiver (142) and the amount of light detected by the illuminance sensor (143).
[0119] In addition, the display device (100) of the present invention can reduce the number of boards by mounting an infrared receiver (142), an illuminance sensor (143), an LED lamp (144), a power button (1615), etc., on a main board (181).
[0120] In addition, the display device (100) of the present invention can simplify the assembly process by implementing an infrared receiver (142), an illuminance sensor (143), a light guide (162) structure for an LED lamp (144), and a power button (1615) as a single assembly.
[0121] The foregoing detailed description should not be interpreted restrictively in all respects and should be considered exemplary. The scope of the invention shall be determined by a reasonable interpretation of the appended claims, and all modifications within the equivalent scope of the invention are included within the scope of the invention.
[0122] Regarding various embodiments for implementing the present invention, descriptions that are redundant with those described above in the previous section on the best mode for carrying out the invention are omitted.
[0123] Since the present invention is applicable to display devices (100) in various fields, industrial applicability is recognized.
