[0001] QWERTY+ keyboard with Latin layout
[0002] The technical solution relates to keyboards for entering data into a computing device (computer), and is intended to increase the speed and productivity of text input in languages using the Latin alphabet by optimizing the arrangement of symbols on the keys.
[0003] To enter letters, numbers, and special graphic symbols into a computer, keyboards are used with key and symbol arrangements described in the ISO / IEC 9995 series of international standards. These standards define the division of the keyboard into sections (divisions) and zones (fields) in which the keys are located. The relative position of a key on the keyboard is characterized by its position. Key positions are indicated by the row (Latin letter) and column (number) at the intersection of which the key is located in a conventional coordinate grid, for example, E01.
[0004] The alphanumeric keypad (field) and function keypad (control keys) form the alphanumeric section of the keyboard (the main field). The alphanumeric keypad must contain at least 47 keys for entering uppercase and lowercase Latin letters, numbers, and special graphic symbols, as well as a space bar. Standards recommend the arrangement of Latin letters, known as the QWERTY layout (based on the first six characters of the letter row D, on keys with positions D01-D06), which is the most common layout of Latin letters and graphic symbols for the English language (known as the American layout or US layout). Due to the limited number of keys (no more than 48 keys), the same keys are used to enter special graphic symbols (signs) as for entering numbers (row E). Temporarily switching between numbers and special graphic symbols is accomplished using the "Shift" key.Pressing and holding the Shift key turns on the second (upper) case input mode (Level 2).
[0005] A disadvantage of QWERTY keyboards is the inability to enter the dash punctuation mark "—" when entering text using only the "Shift" key. This is due to the lack of a dash symbol on the standard QWERTY keyboard. Entering the dash symbol on Windows computers requires using the "Alt" key and entering 0151 (ALT+0151) on the numeric keypad. This input method requires additional keystrokes and memorization of this sequence, which reduces typing speed and increases the likelihood of errors. This input method also contradicts the WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) principle, reducing the efficiency of computing.
[0006] QWERTY keyboards are also known to have keys marked with a third symbol, specifically the dash "—," which corresponds to the third level of the input register (Level 3), requiring the "Alt" or "Alt Gr" control key to be pressed. This input method requires additional key markings, which increases the user's information load and also leads to additional operations and increased material consumption (e.g., paint) during keyboard production.
[0007] The standard QWERTY keyboard layout includes the dollar symbol "$" on the E04 key in the E-number row, and is entered in the second (upper) case while holding down the Shift key. However, the dollar symbol "$" has limited use (used typically in banking as the US dollar symbol, or USD) and is not required for text entry. It is also rarely used in information technology. For example, the widely used programming languages C and C++ do not use the dollar symbol "$" in their syntax.
[0008] The proposed technical solution eliminates the above-mentioned shortcomings on keyboards with the QWERTY layout by replacing the dollar symbol “$”, located on the E04 key, with the dash symbol “—” (Fig. 1), and provides the following technical result:
[0009] • increasing the speed, productivity and convenience of entering texts with the Latin alphabet on keyboards with the QWERTY layout, due to the use of the “Shift” key and reducing the number of keystrokes when entering the dash symbol “—”;
[0010] • no need to mark the third dash symbol "—" on the key. This technical solution will improve the productivity and convenience of users who frequently use the keyboard for text entry (journalists, writers, students, bloggers, etc.). A keyboard with an improved QWERTY layout (QWERTY+) will also be useful for schoolchildren and teachers, as it will allow for a simpler and more intuitive use of the dash punctuation mark in teaching.
[0011] If you need to enter the dollar symbol “$”, its symbol can be placed on the Latin letter “D” key (the “SOZ” key) and entered in the third register while holding down the “Alt” or “Alt Gr” key, just like the euro “€”, yuan “¥” and ruble “₽” symbols.
[0012] The technical solution can be applied to keyboards that use the Latin QWERTY layout as a basic national layout or as an additional one, such as keyboards for the USA, UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, China, India, Japan, Russia, and other countries.
[0013] The proposed technical solution is applicable to attached keyboards (connected to a computer), built-in keyboards (installed in the case of a computer, laptop, etc.), wireless and virtual (on the device screen) keyboards.
