[0002] Dry shampoos are shampoo formulas that are generally in a powder form and are used without water. These compositions may be used on dry hair that has not been recently washed, in order to absorb excess oil from the hair to reduce the appearance of oily or “greasy” hair. In addition, the compositions can reduce the appearance of frizzy hair, and give an overall appearance of clean, recently washed hair. Dry shampoos are often used in-between traditional hair washes that require lathering soap and water, and dry shampoos are usually applied to the scalp or root of the hair. After application, the product may be brushed or massaged into the hair and scalp.
[0003] At the present time, many dry shampoo formulations are provided in the form of a spray composition and delivered in aerosol canisters where the composition is applied to the hair by spraying the composition onto the scalp or roots of the hair. The aerosol is sprayed into the roots of the hair, massaged-in, or combed or brushed through the hair, a process which can be done very quickly due to the no-rinse formulation. Such aerosol formulations typically include propellants, which are undesirable to use on hair because the propellant may be flammable or may leave the hair feeling sticky. Aerosol formulations may also contain alcohols, which may cause the hair to be dry and lead to breakage. In addition, aerosol canisters are difficult to recycle and are difficult to travel with on airplanes.
[0004] There remains a desire and a need to provide dry shampoo compositions that are presented in solid form rather than in aerosol form. It is also desirable that such dry shampoos remain suitable for cleaning dry hair and reducing the appearance of frizz while also volumizing the hair without leaving residue on the hair.Summary
[0005] The present disclosure provides dry shampoo compositions that are configured as a solid mass. The solid mass can take on any shape useful for ease of handling and use on hair. For example, the dry shampoo solid mass can be in the form of, for example, a bar, a stick, a cuboidal shape, or a spheroidal shape. The dry' shampoo solid mass, however, can take on any regular geometric shape or irregular shapes, such as ornamental shapes. The dry shampoo solid mass prepared using compositions as described herein may be used on dry (or dampened) hair with no need of rinsing the dry shampoo off and may be applied to hair by simply rubbing the dry shampoo solid mass on the hair. The dry shampoo solid mass can be prepared from a variety of different types of compositions. In some embodiments, the dry shampoo solid mass may be formed from compositions such as gel-based compositions, oil-based compositions, and / or emulsion-based compositions.

[0046] The composition for the dry shampoo in Table 1 was formulated according to the following steps. The composition was divided into two phases: phase A (powder phase) and phase B (liquid phase).
[0047] First, the powder components of phase A formed a mixture including the sodium stearates (solidifier). kaolin (cleaning agent), and carrageenan (thickener). The components were added one at a time to the RO water while magnetically stirring the mixture at a speed of 400 to 500 rpm.

[0073] Quantitative Features of the Dry Shampoo Bar
[0074] The structure of each of the dry shampoo bars was quantified by measuring the hardness and adhesion of each of the formulated dry shampoo bars. A Brookfield Texture Analyzer CT3 was used to quantify hardness and adhesiveness of the solid formulations. Hardness is the force in grams necessary' to attain a given deformation. The higher the hardness value, the harder the sample bar. Adhesiveness is a measure of stickiness of a sample, and was calculated after the first compression. This was measured in mJ. The higher adhesiveness value indicated that more energy was required to detach the probe from the sample bar.
[0075] Bars of each of Example 1, and Comparative Examples 1-6 were formed and tested. To test the dry shampoo bars, a probe attached to the Brookfield Texture Analyzer was inserted into each bar, and the hardness and adhesiveness of each bar was measured. Table 8 presents the visual observation, hardness, and adhesion data for each dry shampoo bar formulation.

The dry shampoo of claim 1, wherein the solid mass is a bar or a stick.
12. The dry shampoo of claim 1, wherein the base composition comprises:water;one or more emollient;one or more stearates; andone or more polysaccharides, andwherein the at least one cleaning agent comprises a clay.

The dry shampoo of claim 12, wherein one or more of the following applies:the water is present in an amount of about 65% to about 90% by weight;the one or more emollient is present in an amount of about 5% to about 15% by weight;the one or more stearates is present in an amount of about 2% to about 12%;the one or more polysaccharides is present in an amount of about 0.1% to about 5% by weight; the clay is present in an amount of about 1% to about 12% by weight;each of the foregoing is based on a total weight of the dry shampoo.
14. The dry’ shampoo of claim 12, wherein one or more of the following applies:the emollient is dimethicone;the stearate is one or both of sodium stearate and magnesium stearate;the polysaccharide is carrageenan; andthe clay is kaolin.
15. The dry' shampoo of claim 1, wherein the at least one cleaning agent is kaolin, and the base composition comprises water, dimethicone, sodium stearate, magnesium stearate, and carrageenan.
16. The dry shampoo of claim 1, wherein the cleaning agent is removable from hair by one or both of combing and brushing.
17. A method of cleaning hair, comprising the steps of:contacting hair with a dry shampoo configured as a solid mass comprising at least one cleaning agent present in a base composition, wherein the base composition comprises water, dimethicone, sodium stearate, magnesium stearate, and carrageenan,wherein the dry shampoo has a melting point of about 43°C or greater;depositing the at least one cleaning agent on the hair by mechanically moving the dry shampoo through the hair; andAttyDktNo .99527PCT-C63806- 10530WO (01401)removing excess cleaning agent present on the hair by further mechanical action and in the absence of water rinsing.
18. The method of cleaning hair of claim 17,wherein the step of depositing the at least one cleaning agent on the hair comprises rubbing with hands or fingers, combing, or brushing: andwherein the step of removing excess cleaning agent present on the hair by further mechanical action comprises rubbing with hands or fingers, combing, or brushing.
19. The method of cleaning hair of claim 17,wherein the step of contacting hair with the dry shampoo configured as a solid mass is effective to degrade the base composition.
20. The method of cleaning hair of claim 17, wherein the at least one cleaning agent comprises a clay.
